Aloha from a grey and warmish Chicago. Not sure whether it is going to rain or not but supposed to be in the mid-80s. Not sure it'll get there.

THanks for the offer to 'help' Jack .Somehow she can always find outlet malls without any help. This time, it was either going south to Aurora or north to Kenosha. We picked north for obvious reasons :)

Pat, I had apple pie for lunch yesterday and will again have it for lunch today. It's healthy, isn't it?

Boy, that CTA train crash so far is sure a mystery. The unmanned train headed out of the yard through at least two switches, past a station and hit a standing train at about 20 mph. None of that should've happened - one key to get into the driver station, another to start, dead-mans switch to keep going, the switch derailers didn't stop the train... it'll be interesting to see what they figure out.

Oh boy, I'll miss RMT!

Mornin' boys.  Sun did rise.

AF53 - Some of the guys I play with have a problem keeping their cellphones in their pocket, having to perpetually check scores and messages in between hands. Soooo, when I'm the dealer, it costs you 2 blue chips to touch your phone, and 4 blue chips if you text/talk on it...Mischief

DJ - Yeah I got the same e-mail....horrible

Jack - STILL waiting....Bang Head

Dropped the big one on Sunday - finally bought my PS3..gor NetFlix.and promptly saw The American Scream which my daughter recommended.  Filmed in Fairhaven, MA, the Princess says she cried at the end...it reminded her of us.  Good documentary.

Not much going on....Fire calls - hit 400 Sunday, had 4 in 24 hours which severly curtailed my sleep time in the morning

Did go to the Itlaian American Fest Saturday night - it was a blast.

All for now..

Hello all!

Still in morning over my Yankees. We went to the game on Thur which was Mariano and Pettitte's last day at the Stadium, wonderful night. Both classy guys.

RI Jack -  Prayers for your granddaughter. Little ones should not go through anything but happiness.

Pat - Happy belated birthday. Many more.

Laz - Seems like you had a great time up in the fog!

Fife - Cards a great thing in bringing people together. A lot of interesting conversations go along with cards. We played for 15 years or so until a couple of family members passed over the last 3 years and sadly the games have ended.

Good evening all,

Strange day.  Had a farewell luncheon for a coworker who is leaving.  Also one of the supervisors in our division was let go Friday.  He had been here a while.  Quite a shock.  No details, but hopefully something will emerge so we can make sense of it.  Otherwise quiet day at work.   Boys lost Saturday but whipped up on a team tonight.  Friend of mine's son got his first goal.   Sweet!

Evenin' All.

Long days at the museum Fri. & Sat. so yesterday was pretty much a total veg-out day w/football and baseball. Sorry Fife, didn't make it to the post office. Got a lot done at the museum today then came home and snoozed awhile.

Hhhmmm, with that bridge photo posted by Buckeye did anyone have the same flashback that I had. The engineer in the "Flight of the Phoenix".  Smile, Wink & Grin

The surprise party for the BetterHalf is getting close, Oct 12th, and so far I feel as though she is the only one in the county that doesn't know about it. Our daughter has 6th grade camp this week so she'll be putting together the music next week. I've got two large framed poster boards that I need to fill, one with copies of the wedding album and the other with 48 years of odds-n-ends photos. Whistling

Seems like summer has returned, almost 100* today when I got home. Maybe that helped with me falling asleep so quick.

Don't feel like cooking tonite, feels like a bowl of Nuttin Honey Cheerios nite.  Ashamed

Pat, Belated  Happy B-Day

Later All !

Hey LAZ......hope you catch your limit.  Just make sure you don't use the same story you did last year about the big one that got away.  By the time you get back CHUCK will be delirious about the Indians taking no prisoners, with the Red Sox wondering what is happening to them and with me wondering the same.  I notice there was not a peep from Chuck this morning about his Indians making the playoffs and similarly not much from SJ about his Tigers.

PAT......you never did tell us what you did for your birthday or if your "get-out-of-jail-free" card worked.  Did the cows serenade you at your bedroom window for your birthday? Happy B-DayLaugh again.

DougM.....  I can ask my wife to "help" your wife locate a closer outlet mall than the one in Kenosha.  Or, for a nominal fee I can keep my mouth shut. Whistling

My granddaughter had another blood test last week and her numbers are steadily improving but are still nowhere near where they need to be.  The game plan continues to be "wait and watch."  This time we don't test again until December, three months.  Her clotting factor still sucks.  The Doctors are optimistic/non-plussed but we still have to be exceptionally careful the little one does not suffer any head or body trauma because internal bleeding could be unnoticeable but lethal.  I thank each and every one of you for your continued prayers.....that God watch over her until we are out of these medical woods. Jack -My Birthday was uneventful except SWMBO did fix me a great supper including an apple pie, my favorite.

I am saving the "get-out -of-jail-free" card. Buckeye say I will need it if I ever get to Roseville.

As to "cows serenade you at your bedroom window", you remembered! For those who don't, two or three winters ago the cows broke out of the coral and devoured the shrubs under our bedroom window.

I had to look up "anthology". The definition is - "An anthology is a collection of literary pieces."Yes, keep up the good work.

Aloha from a sunny and cool Chicago. We continue to enjoy 100% of possible sun-shine  - a rare thing here.

We had a nice weekend - travelingto a huge outlet mall just over the border near Kenosha Wisconsin so the bride could buy herself a treat to celebrate her job. I plan to return to visit the local museums - there's one featuring the highlights of local auto production featuring AMC. I want to see if they have a '63 Rambler American. Now that was a fun car to drive.

We went to the movies Sat. night at one of those mini theaters with a bar and reclining seats. Could care less about the feature, but enjoyed the amenities. Spent yesterday watching the Bears lose and being tech support for my inlaws. Uploading iTunes to their bewildering Windows 8 computer, getting thousands of photos off their phones, and updating their operating system. Couldn't figure out what they did to their DVD player - as their entertainment center has five remotes - which are all the same manufacturer but slightly different. LOL. Something for another day.

Laz, the Bears sure stunk. The White Sox ended their season Sunday with a whimper as well.
Buckeye, that's always been a cool-looking tanker - and good brew. I can't wait to see that bridge you build.
8n, Queen of the Prairie is sure a cool name for a festival.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sunny & 55 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Finally got the feeling back in my left hand (withhold your comments...).  Pretty uneventful weekend.  Played cards with my buddies Saturday night.  Laundry and football yesterday Ick!.  I have become a big fan of the oil filter canister, absolutely no mess changing the Durango's oil.  Gone are the days of twisting the oil filter out of its threaded slot from under the car, and having the inevitable trail of oil down my arm.

It's the little things.

SPMan - I'll only say this, let it shut down.  Couldn't be any less effective.

Today we celebrated our church's 175th Anniversary. It is one of the few churches in this part of the country that is still in existence and continues to grow.  So many of the small rural churches have shut their doors due to population shifts from the farm to the city.  When the church was founded, our village was considered a day's horseback ride to state capital and back.

A year ago I purchased this tank car, paying  maybe $ 45.00 or less.

Today there are people selling this on Ebay for over $110.   You can still buy these from dealers at MSP or less.  Must be the beer collectors they are trying to fool.

Our engineering firm was selected this past week for materials testing for a new bridge project similar to:

Got mine about a year ago at a Buy it now for 30 bucks.

Nice sunny fall day today.  Mid 70's, clear skies.

Helped my wife with the kid's tent at the Queen of the Prairie art festival yesterday.  It was cloudy and rainy, so attendance this year was down a bit.  Spent today doing the chores I usually do on Saturday, plus drying out and putting away the Queen of the Prairie stuff.

I've got to start working on my Polar Express layout pretty soon.  It has two engagements this year - I've been invited to display it at a swap meet and the second is its usual appearance for the Museum's Polar Express program.

All for now.

Pleasant Sunday afternnon to ye all,

It seems pretty warm here but haven't been outside since church this morning.

I picked up a nice Railking Pacific Electric trolley car yesterday at the train meet for $50.  Got it home and put it on the track.  Nothing happened but the lights came on.  Popped the shell off and found that the battery was completely missing and the pick up rollers show evidence of having been run.  Not a problem for the price but the seller assured me it was brand new.  So much for that statement.  Anyway I found the problem was a broken battery connector.  Spliced a new one in the the line and now everything works just fine.  I always hold my breath when I fire up an MTH product for the first time since  the troubles I've had recently with some of them.  I broke my first rule.  Never buy anything without test running it but for the price I figured I would take a chance.  I got lucky this time.

Wondering what's going to happen next week if the government shuts down.  I have to go to the DMV but that is a state organization.  Don't think they will close.  I'm getting too old for these shananigans.  Wish both sides would shape up.

Had planned on eating out last night but wife had neck pain about that time so we got take out.  Hope she is feeling better tonight and we might try again.  Got an E mail from local Restaurant for a free piece of pie for my birthday which is on October l3th but I can use it anytime.

Still waiting for word about my sister in Florida's dental work.  I want to help her get some new dentures but she had some other issues to take care of first.  Her daughter is supposed to be coordinating but I think she has dropped the ball.  Aggrivating!

later,

Ray

Jack, The Sox's continuing run must be because of ex-Other Sox Jake Peavy! Welcome Raven!

Buckeye, great video!

DougM.......you bet!!!!  Peavy was a great pick up.  Now if he can just remain healthy our starting rotation in the playoffs will be formidable with Lackey astounding the locals coming off of Tommy John surgery and with Bucholz looking sharp after a couple of months injured..  And thank you for the Raven comment.  I am a tad sleep deprived working on the housebreaking with the little one.  We have her on a precise schedule to avoid "in-the-house" snafus.  Thumbs Up

Buckeye......I agree with Doug.  Great video!  Thank you for posting it.  Thumbs Up

DonB......it sounds like your recovery is moving along quite well.  I now think of you every time I go up and down the stairs so I won't do something similar to myself.  Ladders too. Smile, Wink & Grin

Especially when I went from a ranger to my first. The difference between this one and the one I had befor well
