Hello all,

I'm in charge here till Saturday PM. Mrs is at a PSEA  convention. (Don't tell her I took time to postZip it!)

lion88roar

Mornin' Fellas

Sorry about the delay. Been dealing with an infant and a toddler in the evening and have been bush whacked.

88.....Don't feel bad, welcome to the world of parenthood. It don't get any better. When they get out of school you think..."whew, now I'll have some time" along comes Son& Daughter in-laws grandkids etc & you're back to wandering where the time went

Between "Test & Tune" at the Drags & Hillclimb as well as a wedding my weekend will be shot. (Drags were to be last weekend but got rained out)

See ya all later

Prayers for those in need

The thing slightly amiss about the GP40 is it's a Bachmann GP40 body on a Bachmann GP38 frame. The other loco is Bachmann GP38 body on an Atlas GP40 frame.

Didn't get any cleaning up done on the layout. In fact I made more of a mess working on the GP40 and GP38.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Happy BIrthday Rich!

Buckeye - you got stoned in Baltimore?  Seriously, hope you are okay!

Nothing much today.  Nice chat with the guys last night.  Dreaming of some Brit advans with Doug is always fun Smile  Got out to Ruby Tuesdays for a fat burger and a couple brews for supper tonight.  walked about 2 miles back, but stopped at K-Mart and got some diet Pepsi and oreos - food of the gods.  Watching a $5 movie I picked up too - Quarantine.  The heroine is the lady who plays Deb on Dexter (Dex's sister).  We are going to see who wants to do what this weekend, to see if people want to share transport and stuff and get out on the weekend - I hope to see the old Union Station.  I could care less about the Grand Ole Opry.  This is my 4th day in The South and still no grits - SJ gave me a lot of tips on avoiding them.  Tardis is about ready, I hear, but you guys will have to pick me up - SJ has the keys. TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Then will finish the outer 2 loops and go from there. discovered today I bought some O-54 gar-graves track ( takes 8 to make a circle) well I got 7 O-54 and one who knowsBang HeadAngry from the guy. So will need to make it fit its wider than my O-54 and its about 1" longer but its not O-63 either so I don't know what it is. Oh well it will work some how.

Not much else going on this evening. Hope all had a good day

Hope you feel better. Chief probably has Fife and Brent working for him as RT hinted.Smile, Wink & Grin

Rich,

         Happy B-Day

Got the parts situation straightened out.  For the OEM upper and lower grilles, bumper cover, LH headlight, and both parking lamps, I just have to pay the difference of $250.Thumbs Up  I called a local Ford dealer just to check the shop's quote.  That $250 is cheap for the peace of mind.  Comparing the prices of the salvage parts on the estimate to the prices for the new Ford parts shows how ridiculous the markup is on the salvage parts.

I am in the market for new quarter windows louvers too, and my vendor is out of stock for the G2 color code.Sad  I am trying to decide if I want to drop the $640 on the Ford Racing Stinger mufflers as well.

Buckeye what did you eat or drink while in Baltimore remember it is a southern state the chief must of gotten someone to slip you something. You have been warned about this in the past but you get all tied up in your speaches you forget.

RT.........besides severe gastrointestinal blockage and distress, and lethal methane gas, now we know that grits cause kidney stones!!!WhistlingLaugh

Buckeye.....seriously, hope you are feeling better.  Those suckers h-u-r-t.  When my wife had some kidney stones a few years back, the doctor examining her asked her to describe on a scale of 1-10  her level of pain, with 10 being the worst.  She snapped back without hesitation: "WORSE THAN CHILDBIRTH!!!!!"   She subsequently captured some stones as instructed so that a link to a dietary cause could be determined.  The stones were examined and she had to make a couple of changes, no reoccurence.  Hope you are just as fortunate. Buckeye Riveter

Where do I start............

On Monday morning I awake with a huge pain in my left side.  KIDNEY STONE!!! Dead The Mrs. takes me to the emergency room where heavy doses of pain killer are put in me and somehow she gets me home to sleep for the next two days.  On Wednesday morning I pass a stone and then another stone about an hour later.  Needless to say it has been an memorable week.

Good afternoon.
WOW Buckeye, that would suck, Take care of yourself. Angel
I have been beating my small brain out today trying to figure out how to build my tunnel.  Bang Head Here is the criteria. It needs to cover a 1/4 72” curve that is also on an 3.5” incline. It has to be able to be lifted off of the incline curve and just sit on the table and portals because I want to be able to paint the inside black so it is dark. That is why I want to be able to lift it off. I have tried about six ideas so far and nothing will flex as it needs to and work. Bang Head Bang Head So now I have been thinking of making a skeleton super structure of 1” strips of cardboard going and down and sideways   Hmm I can build from the high end to the low end by placing and bending the strips and gluing and stapling them in place with hot glue. I think I can make some height and width jigs from 1” Styrofoam to help make the bends in the cardboard pretty much uniform from the roadbed plate to the top of the tunnel and and control the width.  I can let the strips go down to the flat of the table and put a 90* bend at the bottom of the strips for it to sit on the table.. . Once I have it built I can take it to the shed and cover it with plaster cloth, Let it dry and paint the inside. Take it back to the layout set it in place over the track and build the mountain over it. What do you think??  Confused Confused

I've been busy working on a couple of locos today.

The first is a GP40. It's all Bachmann, body, frame, motor, everything. Well not quite. The couplers are Kadee. However there is something slightly amiss. Can anyone spot it? Better put your sharp peepers on.

The other is this GP38. Bachmann and Atlas. The coupler pockets are a bit high so I have some Kadee 142's coming. I could have cut out the middle of the pilot, put in a shim and lowered the coupler taht way but I really didn't feel like doing that. Must be getting old.

Where do I start............

Let's start with last Thursday, when I flew to Baltimore and toured the B&O Museum.  That night I spoke at an engineering society function.  On Friday morning I rode Amtrak from Penn Station to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia and then the SEPTA Train to the airport.  From the airport I took the hotel shuttle to the place hotel shuttles always go, the hotel.  On Saturday, I had meetings and then Amtrak to Penn Station at Newark and out to see the grandkids.  I take the Acela Express back to BWI and ride Southwest back to Buckeyeland.

Now here is where it gets really interesting.

Yeah but he forgets It was done over a year ago it took him that long to realize it. ( remember chief I was able to get into your account one day. ) And Brent I even told him I was in his account Laugh

Afternoon all not a lot going on here today. just taking it easy did clean out the dryer ( lint and all from in the fan area)

Put down last section of carpet for layout of coarse it doesn't match perfectly which I expected seeing they had to get another roll and 3 weeks later to get the last section.

But all will be fine. I'll figure out something to do to cover the difference .

Brent......I have some advice.  Stop working on home perfection and start on plans for an addition to the house.  You will need it.  And kiss your spare bedroom good bye.

I just spent a couple of hours of re-arranging the deck chairs on my own Titanic.

The grandchildren's toys are now present in my dining room, living room, and family room, and the overflow takes up half of what was once solely our bedroom turned office.  I will report later on the basement, the garage, the closets, and a bunch of drawers.  SighBang Head  BTW........does anyone know what a dumpster and content disposal costs?  May also need a conveyor belt to make loading the dumpster as well. Aloha from a sunny and cold northeastern Illinois. I enjoyed a TARDIS visit last night. Cream of wheat with flax and brown sugar for breakfast this am. Busy day of work. Kev, congrats on the train-money-producing work-day. Brutus, hope you can get out this weekend. There's some nice sights to see in Nashville.

Morning all not a lot going on here today. plan to do a little more train layout work first thing I want to do is clear room to cut last piece of carpet for the table top and let it flatten out for a day or so before stapling it down.

RJ yeah the atlas tanker made my decision to go wide curve but no the engines that take O72 curves probably never make it to my layout not saying there not worth it just can't see spending about $1000 for a engine.

Well breakfast is done time to get on to some chores so I can do some train work later.

Talk to you all later hope you all have a good day.

Grandbaby is at Fifedom, so nothin' gettin' done today.

Fife will be doing some diaper changing today. Whistling

Bright sun, mid 40s and going to the upper 50s today, then warming up over the weekend.

IDOT has been running trucks in and out of Marseilles loaded with flood damaged furniture and personal items to help with the clean up for three days now. Barges are still stuck in front of the dam and 4 of the 6 have sunken to the bottom of the river.  They have a massive crane on site and claim they can get them out. Hmm Bad but nothing like Sandy where you had wind and water.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?id=9078090

Have a good day.

I am certainly glad that I can say I join Fife, Brent, and Kevin today with my own "children" duties.  I have been duly informed that I have video camera duties tonight at my granddaughters' school play in which she has a solo singing part.  My plan is to get there early, stake out a primo spot so I can get an unobstructed video clip, set up a tripod, and execute said duties.........so the family can view the video ONCE OR TWICE and file it away with all of the million other stills and videos I have been asked to take. Bang Head

Once upon a time, captured video and still photo memories were family treasures because there were so few of them, relatively speaking.  Now, with everyone walking around with cell phone video and still cameras, every waking moment of the children is captured and "stored."

As I see it, the most important contributions I am making to my family tonight is to enable others to sit back and enjoy the show while I film.  As long as Victoria feels loved and supported, it is all worth it.  I figure down the road I can always pull out the video and tease her, like when she reaches dating age and some boy shows up.  Smile, Wink & Grin

We have a chilly start to our Thursday with cold air still in place. Clear skies early in the day, but we will see clouds begin to build as a weak low pressure system tracks north of Michigan. This will bring late morning rain/snow showers that can continue into the afternoon. We'll top out well below average in the mid to upper 40s with winds out of the SW between 15 and 20mph. Tonight will be a cold one as we drop to the lower 30s and winds lighten up a bit. Now for the good news! We will finally see some warming tomorrow with partly cloudy skies and temperatures climbing into the 60s. Your weekend looks to be pleasant as well with plenty of sun and temperatures above average. Enjoy!

Where the heck is spring??

I have a couple of nasty service calls today. One requires two ladders. It has a steep roof. You have to put one ladder on the balcony just to get to the roof. The other ladder you have to place over the stink pipe to get up toward the top peak. Then you have a  five foot climb on the steep roof with no ladder to a three foot tripod. (that you hope to get ahold of or it is a long drop to the ground)

Have a great day!

RJ I went to O-72 as I had cars which would only run on O-54 and larger curves ( didn't know it till I got them in. But love them) Atlas scale 33,000 gl tank cars there like 17" coupler to coupler. Not sure of your dimentions by what looks like a bar but if you only have 6' they might not work as you might be over lapping or scraping the walls as you go around.

I was wondering about hitting the wall. I had posted that I was looking for a chart that posted the measurements for the curves. I'll measure across from the bar to the wall tonight to see what I have for width on that end.

Yes i agree with ya Kev on the buying bigger and more expensive locos if I go to wider radius but is any of this really inexpensive? lol

Mornin' Fellas

Sorry about the delay. Been dealing with an infant and a toddler in the evening and have been bush whacked. Last night we put the sunroom back together Thumbs Up man does it look nice now. Still have to do some touchup paint on the ceiling about the edges, but that will wait till I have to fix the darned sunlight wells again... and I am not looking forward to that because the next 'fix' is going to require some significant demo work...

Prepping for Mammy and Pappy's visit this coming weekend. My father is going to help me build the frame and shelf for the mirror in Christina's room - yes the same one I started 12 months ago... don't ask.

Dad also wants to see the progress on the train garden, so we may even do some work on that while he is here... we'll see.

Fife - enjoy Fifepup!
