Ryan, Neighbors are overrated. It don’t matter if your on 100 Acres or a postage stamp. They have less skin in the game than you but at one time you had less skin in the game than others. So let it blow, just don’t allow any additional runoff from your place go to their place. And BTW make sure you build up a pad so your train room will not be sitting in a water hole. I told that to my neighbor when he was getting his land ready to build and ,,,,,,,,,hey what does this old fart know. Sure enough every time it rains hard he gets water coming in right under the doors. I told him he needed to raise the floor by at least another 1.5 foot, but noooo. So now he is trying to cut the ground around his shed down so the water will run away. Not a easy job after the fact. And so now he has pushed extra runoff onto our property but what do you do?

Lexi sure got the engineer hat on quick with her own transformer and Thomas loop, but you can tell she is a she. It seems her preference for Thomas is full speed in reverse. Surprise No PileUPs Yes

I am bushed and that is not G.W. Bush.  Zzz

Hello all

Another quiet night collecting photons. Slept like a log for most of my time off shift today. Just about the time you get used to this schedule it's time to go homeTongue Tied

Ran the 0-8-0 on the test track of the Mt. G & AZ Eastern boiler shops last night w/ the new MRC 1301 transformer. Very nice slow speed control. I can see where sometime down the road I might be looking at there dual control unitWhistling

JimT - "Jumpin' Linclon Logs Batman!!" That loader sure is impressive. The logs seem to leap up into the overhead crane. And there is nothing like Flyer chuffBig Smile Bummer about the mufflers, but I'm sure someone will pick them up. I lucked out w/ a $30 muffler I got from O'Reilly on the hardtop. It fit in the space, has a sound I like, and didn't cost that much. How often does that happen?

Fife - continued prayers for your daughter

Mike - thoughts and prayers for yours as well. Sounds like there was another stone in the bile duct. Did they have to open her up again or could they do it laproscopically this time?

Ryan - as long as you're following all the codes and ordinances, as Nike says: "Just do it" You did the right thing by talking to them about it as well. What they do w/ that info is their choice.

SPRay - gonna send you a PM

One of the guys from basecamp just brought a spectrum analyzer by that he no longer had a need for. Used to work in the communications business. For those who may not be familiar w/ these they are like an oscilloscope but provide frequency vs/ amplitude instead of time vs. amplitude. This is one of the few test equipment pieces I have yet to acquire as they can be somewhat expensive and often fairly large. This is a portable unit that can run on battery or line power. I am fairly stoked about this and owe Larry a big thanks. I'm going to try and align another radio this week so I'll be sure to post another 'mad science' pic.

Kev, were gonna shave another 20' of trees out the whole way around, then at the base of that hill were gonna dig a swale? culvert? out and around to the natural run off  swale nature made.    The issue with the run  off to the neighbors is a spring that squirts up in the middle of my driveway.  and its a maintenance nightmare. Then it runs out across there drive way and out onto the road, because its missing the drain the state installed.   it was sooo bad at one time this winter the sate had to come salt the road because cars were spinning out on the ice in the middle of the road. And since this run off originates on my property, I feel its me responsibility to fix it.

wow its late

got alot to do tomorrow

Sunny and into the 70's today.  Rain is supposed to start tomorrow, with falling temperatures the rest of the weekend.  Maybe snow on Sunday.

Not much going.  Will have to donate another Saturday to work tomorrow.  With any luck, I'll only have to be in for a short time in the morning to get things started and again in the afternoon to see how things are pmoving along.

All for now.

Ryan,
If your neighbors don't like what you are doing then they can either move or keep their mouths shut. It isn't their land. And you are trying to help the out and they are blowing you off.

If I were you I would install one of Doc Brown's speakers from Back to the Future in the MEGA TRAIN BARN's attic... Whistling Then you can invite the other neighbor's kids and their friends over for a field party... Pirate

Hello Everyone!

Been away for a while and reads some 15 pages, all is good on the home-front.

Cathy has learned, from her mother, how to crochete. She wanted to make a blanket for our first grandchild for this July. All bets were that she wouldn't finish it on time, she was really struggling with it. Well, today she did finish it. It's only 2'x4' and it took her 3 weeks. I'd have to say, for a first time, it does look good.

MikeC - I hope and believe that this should be the end to your daughters troubles. God knows it's been a long ordeal.

Fife - Glad to hear things are progressing with the operation.

HudsonJohn - Saturday I will be working so it looks as though Sunday I can make the trip up nawth for the Greenberg show.

JoeD - Not sure if you watched Mariano's retirement speech last weekend? Class all the way! Right after the speech I picked up 4 tickets for the last regular season as I'm sure it will be an event. If one of my kids can't make it I'll invite either Traindood or RIJack to go! (maybe this will wake up Traindood?).

Jim - That log loader and car was nice to see, thanks. That's something I never had and want to get soon. Good to hear that "chuff chuff" sound.

 Good Night!

Good morning. It's 55° with 100% humidity. The high will be 78°.

Today I intend to get some cleaning up down on the layout. Some freight cars that have been converted to Kadee's must be put away so they're not taking up space on the layout. There's also some things that have to be prepped for sending out.

Temp is 28

We got enough snow overnight to cover the ground. Not to worry Chief, it will get to 70 here for July and August. Actually if Ky or Tn was getting warm weather we would head south for a week or so. But I also have York next month so I wouldn't want to go much farther than that. . S.J.

Aloha. Grey and cold today, Youngest is finally feeling better. Dropped off the daughter and a gaggle of her friends who were heading downtown on the train for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Hope to run some trains this afternoon. DonB and Ray, glad you met Larry. What a small world! Ryan, I'd take a huge train building versus a bunch of trees any day. You sound like a very good neighbor.

I worked on the FP7 some more and found why it was buzzing like the barbers clippers. There's a plastic piece that fits on top of the chassis. It covers the motor, flywheel and shafts and is also handy for laying the wires and decoder on. The front drive shaft U-joint was just touching this piece and that was causing the buzzing sound. I cut a small piece out of the plastic cover so the U-joint was free and clear. This thirty-plus year old Atlas/Roco FP7 now runs as smooth and quiet as my new E-R Models FP7. Murphy has been sent begging once again.

Tried to do Grady's but almost stuck the tractor.  His is WET.  He did not get his tomato poles and etc out in the fall so I could disk it.  Now it has not dried out since it started raining.  Did get one trip of the disk over the entire thing to get the tall stuff down.  Was full of tall weeds as he quit on it in late summer. By the way where is the Roseyville rascal. HMMM hey fife did you have a visitor last night/today ?

Evening all not a lot going on here today. starting to move some stuff out of here ( computer room/office ) so I can paint the walls hopefully next weekend then put some shelves up in here to place trains on lol. ( yes the room I had before with trains on the walls. This time thou it will be like a round the room but no power to the track. just 4 trains one on each wall around the room. Moved the PRR set down to den and put on shelf layout and let it stretch its legs last night it ran great.

I ordered TMCC dc commander and dash 9 sound board for a weaver SD-40 I also ordered 4 coil couplers for a couple of GP-7/9 engines I have that need them at present. The SD-40 has MTH coil couplers on it so just need to change the connectors so no biggy there.

Hope all having a good weekend.

Temp is 33, pavement is dry, still snow on the grass.

I haven't seen that robin since last week. It's probably hiding in a warm chimney somewhere. This was not an eventful day so I will say goodnight.

Good evening all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  All sorts of news and observations.  First of all, for those of you here who have not checked out the thread "In a Standard Gauge Mood", please do so.  Becky has a talent for making recreations of prewar Lionel buildings out of cardstock that will take your breath away.  Secondly, daughter is home and doing ok.  They did NOT find any more gall stones.  Grrrrr.  They said afterward there had been a shadow on the screen which looked like one.  Hmmmm.  Seems like a way to get more money, but I do not know.  This was the second ERCP she has gone thru.  Second one should be "on the house".  Thirdly, local high basketball team is going to state finals after beating the number one team 62-37. First time ever for basketball team and only second time a local sports team made it that far.   Fourthly, went to a train show in Hamilton, Ohio today and scored a Jim and Debby Flynn "New Marx" boxed set.  Absolutely beautiful tinplate set.  Fifthly, work was finally quiet yesterday and basically caught up on stuff.  Continued prayers for Alexis.  As far as the Princess is concerned, the clock has started ticking on her 15 minutes.  AJ's team had another good test week for Indycar.  First F-1 race of the season will be starting soon.  Four teams only occupied the first four rows of the grid.  Last but not least, I got to enjoy a MLS game on network today as DC United and New York Red Bull battled to a 0-0 tie.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Well today was somewhat of a busy day for me. This morning I got about a dozen freight cars put away, boxed up three locos, two loco shells and two 1/87 vehicles for shipment. About 10am I went to town to deliver my fathers tax paperwork to the AARP volunteers. As usual he didn't check ahead to make sure he had everything he needed so it was a wasted trip and a waste of my time and gas. I was NOT a happy camper. So I came back home and ripped into the primer gray Atlas FP7 to find out why it was buzzing like the barbers hair clippers. The solution was to simply cut out a piece of plastic a half inch square. I took away it's buzz as this short video will attest. It's the gray loco.

Well that's it for me. Time to shut this mess down. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello all

Another quiet evening here on the hill.

Don - good to hear from you! Forgot to mention that yesterday

Mike - glad to here your daughter came thru ok, even if they didn't need to.

Jeffrey - The stuff on your layout is starting to grow on me. You just never know what you are going to see sometimes:) Nice work on the F-unit

Ray - did ya get my PM? Think it may have gotten lost in the ether

Laz - yeah, I like the 0-8-0 alot. The valve gear action is mesmerizing.

I'm trying something kind of interesting. May be worth posting a thread about. I am trying to re-create my first train set in 0-gauge. Since I came of train set age in the early 70's my first set was Tyco HO. It contained a Sante Fe Plymouth switcher, Swift reefer, UP gondola, and a SF caboose. I believe Jeffrey has a version of the switcher (think pizza cutter here) and wouldn't be surprised to find he has the whole set. There really isn't a matching O-gauge unit for the loco, but the 0-8-0 is a SF unit. I already have a couple of SF cabeese so I managed to hunt down a 9855 Swift reefer and a 9283 UP gondola. I also found a UP bay window caboose that will make the diesel version of the set (although UP instead of SF) that will be a good excuse to hang on to the WBB NW-2 UP switcher I haveStick out tongue

Prob shouldn't hang out on e-bay so muchTongue Tied, however most of these would prob fit into the 'cheap classics' category.

Any of you guys done this?
