Temp is 33, sun was out all day but it was a cold March day. Not unusual for here. The font is messing with me again tonight so I will grab the banilla and wait for the thingy,,,S.J.

Evening all
Cool out and snowy but not sticking to the roads.
Jack – I agree with your statement about dogs sensing a person’s intent. We live in the city right on an alley. Our previous Golden Retriever Sue was an outside dog and when kids and the like would walk up or down the ally, she would not so much as bat an eye, but when, shall I refer to them as scoundrels would pass by she would raise all kind of noise, and she could not see them because we had a tall slat fence between our yard and the alley.
Fife – Special prayers for your princess, they hold a special place in our hearts!
Good night and May God bless, especially for Pope Francis I

Good afternoon all,
Good to hear that Alexis made it through the surgery. More prayers for recovery
This day has flown by. It started this morning when a friend of mine and myself paid a visit to our friend and fellow coffee pot buddy, D. Baker. We were finally able to accept his standing invitation to see his train layout. It was well worth the trip. Don does beautiful work and I was impressed with his wiring and controls with DCS as well as the Lionel system. We were allowed to run the trains and got a special certicate for operation and an atta boy for no pile ups. We ran everything from Big Boys to Heislers and Galloping gooses. What fun! Thanks a million Don and I'm sure you know that you are always welcome at my house too.
Stopped for a burger on the way home at some Italian place that is famous in Chicago but only has a couple of places out here. I was suppose to go out to a Chinese dinner with church friends tonight but I had lunch too late and I don't feel like going to that one. It's OK cause now I have an excuse. Dinner was scheduled for 5:00PM. That's too early for me.
Temp is up to 90 today. Gave the pool a shot of chlorine for the first time in a while. Water has been too cold up to now to need much. Have not been in the garage yet but it's probably 90 in there too. Maybe the E6 welded itself back together by now.
Good evening to all,

Good evening:
Good news and prayers for a quick recovery for Alexis!
Brent: Thanks for relaying the news.
Laz: LOL, I just started practicing and I told "Johnson" to do the same.
Jack: That was a close call. I don't know who it was for, your friends or the "other guys". As far as Maximus, he would do the right thing and handle himself well.
Good night,
John
It's been busy here today. I was going to get started on the closet this morning. As soon as I was going out to get a trash can the darn phone rings! You guessed it. It was my father calling. He wanted to have breakfast in town and he had things to do in town as well and I figured into his plans. So we got his stuff down and I got home about noon. Got a late start on the closet. I sorted through the contents of six boxes and tossed out enough junk to fill a thirty-five gallon can almost halfway. And by junk I mean pure dee junk that even I can't use! Damaged loco frames, a bunch of cracked or broken loco shells, cracked trucks with stripped gears, freight cars that were damaged beyond hope, etc. On the flip side I found some motors that are in fair shape. With a little work they can be put to work again. Also found some Planet Toys Ford and Dodge vans and some Malibu vehicles. A couple of Ford Pinto wagons, a couple of Ford Escorts, what looks like a retro T-Bird convertible, a Fire-bird convertible, a late 60's Z28, John Deere tractor or two and a few semi-trucks. I got the six boxes thinned down to three so that's progress.Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello all
Back at work for another week. Fairly tired and trying to stay awake. The first night is always the worst. And I even managed to stay in bed until noon today, which is not easy where I live.
Didn't get to check in much on the Pot on my week off. May have to spring for a wireless booster for our unit some day, but $100 has a lot of other uses right now.
Fife - thoughts and prayers for your daughter
Jeffrey - looking forward to Ford Pinto display on the layout
8N - a Missouri Corvair FC might be a tad rough, although the hardtop came from there and it's in pretty good shape. Cool that it is a panel.
Fairly busy week off. Appt's and meetings, meetings and appt's. Looks like my podiatrist will need to cut on my other foot soon Will try some pads on the orthotics but there's a p/o'd nerve in there. Can't walk or hike like I used to and that is bumming me out. She took a mass out of my right foot a couple years back and that healed fine. I guess this operation is thru the top so the recovery time is less.
Got the carbs all dialed in w/ the new float valves. Decided to take it back to my friends to reset the valves. We did this when we changed out the pushrod O-rings last summer and he had a hard time of it due to the carbs running rich. Ended up making it worse rather than better this time. Found that the lower distributor bushing was fairly loose and swapped it out w/ another I had. Turned out that even though that was 'a' problem, is was not 'the' problem. Ran it by another friend in the club who adjusts the valves in a different way. These are hydraulics so the general theory is you just have to set them only if you take things apart. The first guy goes in until the valve is completely open and the engine starts to die and then backs out (you do these running) and the second goes out until the rocker is loose and then goes back in. I'm fairly used to solid lifter adjustment on various ferin' vehicles, but had yet to mess w/ good ol' US of A hydraulics. Now I know. After Bill finished we took it on a good run and on the way back the lifters had settled down and the car runs like it is supposed to. I consider myself pretty good under the hood, but I love working w/ these guys because they've been doing it so long and I learn at lot each time. I also got to see Bill's '31Dodge after he fired it off for the first time in years. It's the very car he got his license with.
A little more work in the storage unit organizing and some time setting up a few things in my 4'X8' piece of paradise at the house.
Since I'm either at work or working on the car when we have a nice warm day in Tucson, I decided to have the guy I bought the bicycle frame from finish the painting. He is apparently having as much fun w/ the color and type of paint as I did. Was hoping to bring it w/ me to assemble it. Told him no worries and I'll just put it together when I get back next week.
Got a few projects to work on this week including the docksider from the Land O' Lincoln. I have a nifty new power supply to test it with. More electronics and painting helicopters, too hopefully.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a sunny 35 degrees. Going up to 42 today with sunshine.
Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping. I have a few chores to do and a small project to work on. Put away groceries, have lunch and then, a nice nap.
Dining car has rolled in with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
Good Morning
Partly cloudy today...that is what the guessers say...right now? Snowing like the proverbial backhouse and windy to boot.
Got to make a run to Woodstock a little later...hopefully I get there without some pileup occuring on the 401...which happened yesterday...
Continuing prayers for Alexis

Good morning. Glad to hear Alexis made it through the surgery ok. Keep an eye on those infections. When I had my elbow replaced, I spent more time in the hospitle for the infections than the intial procedure.
same old stuff today.
Ryan
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps near 40. Daughter has to have another procedure to remove another gall stone on Friday. Evidently they missed one somehow. I asked her if they have a buy one, get one free offer on this procedure. She should check that out. Work was a disaster all the way around yesterday. Soccer was cancelled last night as well. Maybe should not have gotten out of bed. TBIL after Glee. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Temp is 24 with bright sun.
The Chief's supper sounded good till he got to the Grits. Granny hasn't fixed breakfast yet so the OGR guys will have to go without knowing this morning. I'm not sure what today will bring but Chuck's nap will be on my list too...S.J.
Good morning,
Had no plans today so I rolled over in bed and the next thing I knew it was 8:00.
Answered some questions on the engine parts I have on ebay and now it is already 9:00
Good to hear that Alexis made it through the surgery. Yeah no place better to get an infection that the hospital. Also the easiest place to get one.
I got my EOB from the Insurance Co. from the trip I took in the big red box. All I can say is OUCH. Glad I passed the stress test or this bill would do me in for sure. Not sure how I am going to pay this one, I don’t have that kind of cash in the thousands just sitting around. My kids see to that.
Bob, The lifters will work both ways but I like turning them in then backing them out. I have also did them not running, by using a drill on an old distributor that I removed the guts and gear from just leave the oil pump driveshaft in it then have a guy run the drill and set them cold under pressure. The key to it is you have to have each cylinder on TDC as you do them so you have to follow the firing order. This works great when you are doing a rebuild and the engine is out of the car on the stand. Then you can just drop it back in the car and fire it up. Less mess and safer. No FIRE from oil on the exhaust.

Good morning. It's 49° with 55% humidity. The high will be 70°.I'm getting a late start today. After yesterdays closet cleaning I think I'll take a break today. There's still more layout cleanup to do and I may get to that later. Another problem that needs addressing is one of my FP7's has a bum motor. It runs though it's noisy. It's to the point that when it stops it doesn't always want to move again. Usually a sharp tap takes care of that. I thought it could be a loose connection so I checked everything over and resoldered any suspect connections. No difference. So I ran it chassis only stopping and starting it until it failed to start again. I used my meter to check for continuity across the motors terminals and there was none. Aha. A fault in the commutator? A brush going bad? Who knows? I tapped the motor with a screwdriver and continuity returned. Pretty obvious the motor will have to be changed out at some point.
Morning. Started off a tad cool. Warming fast. Sunny and pretty with birds singing. Watched all the backed up Fox Pro Fur Takers DVR'd. Now to get ready to go to Dr. for this stuffed head.
Got a NRA banquet tonight. Its the County north of us but real close. Lots of friends up their.
Prayers for Alexis.
Have a good one.
Good Afternoon!
Started out at 32 when Mack and I went for our walk. Chester the cat decided to sleep in and go solo. It has hit 40. I gave myself and the log splitter a good workout this morning. Barely put a dent in the pile and another pickup load arrived. All oak courtesy of Sandy. Now to get some train work together and head to Mom's for the night.
Fife: Continued prayers and well wishes for Alexis.
Chief: Wishes that everything goes right for the Grandnephew.
Jeffrey: Cleaning up can be a real chore. Glad that you are there for your father. He needs you now more than ever.
Bob: Best wishes on the foot. great news on the Corvair. I am going to start restoring my 1965 "Rustang" soon. My commuting car on nice days is getting a make over. The mechanics are all done. now to do the body!
Laz: I will make sure that Ray is in practice. We don't want him slowing us down. I will make sure that he wears his Yankee Jacket so that he can distract sellers so that I can make a real lowball offer and they take it like what happened in October.
Mike: Prayers for your daughter. She has been thru enough already.
Kev: OUCH!!! Good luck with the bill.
Enjoy the day!

Enjoyed my visit to D.Baker's layout yesterday. Will have to take a look at my own today before it gets to hot in the garage. I liked one of Don's engines a lot (SP Cab forward) and wish I had one. Saw one in the TCA quarterly for $450 but I think it was Proto 1. I think Don got the Lionel one which is probably better. Had a great whistle as well as the one on his Big Boy.
Another modern applicance (dishwasher) struck back lately. Wife said dishes did not come out clean. We discovered today that the soap in the dispenser on the door had never been released when it should have automatically. Have to keep an eye on it next time it runs.
Have to get at my chores now, Have a good one,
Good afternoon,
I am kind of depressed today so I decided to work on the layout on some things that don’t cost any money.
So I have Train news. I had a 042 Lionel RH switch that has been giving me fits with some of the trains. It had curve sections going into it and coming out of it in reverse directions so I decided It needed straight sections coming into and out of it. Thomas and the K-Line ALCO S2s don't want to do the right hand without jumping off the switch. They work fine driving into the switch but don't seem to be able to drive out of the switch. So I tore up some track and ended up with two straight sections and one 072 section attached to the switch and it is much better now but the S2s will still jump off at times so it must be the switch. I hate these lionel 027 042 remote switches but not much I can do now. . I also worked on the inner loop that will not have any switches that I can run the old Marx and AF trains on. Now I just need to run a power circuit to the table so I can power a transformer on that side and loop. Here are some pictures. I will run it for a month or two to see if it will be okay. What do you guys think? I also want to do an upper level with the Fastrack I got with the Thomas set. Of course I will need to pull it all up when I get to landscaping but I want to make sure I like it first.
I also sat back down and went over some of the hospital and Doctor stuff and so far it is over 12K. I am not yet sure how much will be my share but I know it will be better than 20% when you add in my $450 deductible.
It is starting to snow and I need to go to the hardware store and get some track screws.
Later all.
Before
Aloha everyone. Nice if too short ride on the TARDIS last night with Brutus, SJ, and HudsonJohn. Long day so far. Just a bunch of errands. Taking the car in to replace the headlight that was replaced a few months ago took a long time, then there was another adventure in grocery shopping, laundry and finally back to work. Nice work there, Kev.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Sorry, Should be Greatnephew. Old minds I guess.
KEV, lots of room in that basement for more benchwork.
Dr., yes you have sinus infection and more meds. BP was 100 over 70. About normal for me now.
Off to NRA banquet.
Later
good evening
Kev, ever think of doing "organizational consulting" work? I can't keep a flat surface uncluttered for more than 24 hours. The layout is looking good.
don't stress out over the med bills, there are usually willing to work out a easy every month for the rest of your life payment plan.
when i broke my wrist a few years ago (i am self pay) I got a PAST DUE notice the day BEFORE i got the bill!?! So I called them up, and apparently, that proto call for self pay. Your automatically late on your bill.
I will say though, that our local ER has a deal, that if your self pay, and make a minimum 50.00 cash payment at time of service, they cut the bill in half. , unfortionatly, this does not include contracted services such as x-rays.
I've been working on an FP7 that had a bum motor. I removed the old motor, took the flywheel and shaft extension off it then hooked it up to a Bachmann power pack and turned to throttle up. Lots of vibration. Looks like my thought about the brushes or commutator was a bit off. Looks more like a bad pole. I've fitted the flywheel and shaft extension to another motor. It's a little shorter in length than the old one but the shaft ends are a little longer so that helped make up for it. I got the right length sorted out front and rear for the shafts so now I have to wire the motor then set it back in with the shafts again and secure it in place. This is how far I've gotten at this point:
Good Evening:
Spending the night at Mom's. she is watching American Idol. I Cleaned, rewired and serviced a 6026w Tender that I recently purchased and Cleaned, Repaired and Serviced a 665 Hudson. Of course I had to run them for a while.
Kev: 1. The layout is looking good. 2. I would call the insurance company and see what the prevailing rate for what you had done and what the hospital agreed to before I paid anything. My mother has been getting bills from the hospitals and doctors that by rights she is not responsible for. Most of it has been lazy billing. I know that it varies from State to State. Years ago when my Dad was still alive the doctor's office was billing the insurance company and my folks and they were paying it. It turned out that the doctor was getting paid twice. good luck with it.
SPMan, Ray, good luck with the dishwasher.
Doug M, Thanks for sharing the pics.
Chief: Greatnephew, Grandnephew, it does not make a difference.
Have a Great Evening!
Did some yardwork after I got home from work, adjust the back gate and removed some fence.
Pretty day, sunny but cool. Not sure what Friday will bring. Going to go to the Elementary again to do Stations of the Cross and Divine Mercy Chaplet with the kids. It's neat working with the kids.
Prayers May God bless
John, I looked everything over close, been there and done that back in 08.
Even our granddaughter thought there was something wrong when she saw the bills.
Have a good night all!.
Kev,
I like the new look much better. Track running at an angle to the edge looks very nice. BTW, I am with the Chief regarding the empty floorspace. Go get more wood.
John,
If you could, send me some pictures of that '65. I'd like to see that because my Dad had a '64 1/2 and a '69 Mach 1 back in the '60s-early 70's. I'd like a '68 Fastback in Highland Green myself.
Jim,
Is a 751 supposed to be this noisy? The camera didn't pick it up that well, but the solenoid that lifts the logs is quite noisy.
watch?v=cEQTnH XKO4
Not much exciting to report today. There's a package on the way from Malvern, PA that should put the neighbors' noise tolerance to the test though.
Temp is 37 with sun all day.
We saw our first robin of spring this afternoon. Plus new life in the garden. A good feeling. banilla and root beer tonight for the whole crew.....S.J.
Youngun still ain't here. Wifey came home sick with a cold. Her Mom dropped her off. Other Sister and Niece kept her car to get home after baby gets here. Big a big faimly thingy. All the women always went to hospital everytime a baby was born. Now they are doing it for the childrens' children.
NRA banquet was great food. Didn't win anything. My insurance agent won the big gun prise. 270 Weatherby [beautiful wood stock] with Leupold VX III scope. Didn't know what he had. Asked me what to sell it for. Should have told him some low price and bought it.
Popcorn and TV and then bed.
Sleep tight.
Well I have the new motor in the FP7. I got it wired, shafts put in, motor hot glued in place after much eye-balling to make sure all was right. Hooked the motor to the decoder and sent it off on a test run. It runs very well but buzzes like a hair trimmer. Oh well, can't have everything. That's better than what it WAS doing. Went into town earlier today to make a bank deposit, went to Lowe's to get several types of small screws then the post office to send a something I didn't want back to a club I belong to, at their expense.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
