Good morning all,

It is windy in SE Indiana with temps falling from the 50s thru out the day.  Had a good day with the grandkids.  Ran both the Alaska train and the 384E Lionel Classics set.    Watched Once Upon a Time.  The ending was interesting.  I see where IU won the Big 10 regular season title.  I also saw where the Princess did not do so well....again.  One grandson is staying with us a few days.  Will run trains for him.  TBIL and I can drive tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning. It's 41°F with 71% humidity. The high will be 60°F.

Since getting the new modem I've had no problems getting online and staying online. So yesterday I called Suddenlink and cancelled the service call that was scheduled for this morning. After all this time of them saying the problem wasn't being caused by their equipment it turns out that the problem was being caused by their equipment. I'm just happy that it's over with.

Now, what to do today, what to do, what to do. I guess I could get started on cleaning up the layout before I have to mount an archeological expedition to find my tools. I know for sure there's a pairs of pliers in there somewhere and I seem to be missing a loco. There's also a loose hour scampering around here somewhere but I probably won't find it until sometime in November.

Morning.  Beautiful warm day.  Busy day doing some Mayor stuff and then Box.

KEV, the transformer does the reverse of what it does in reducing house voltage.

Later.

YESTERDAY AT THE MALL

I took most of my 9 1/4 rolling stock and a 2026 prairie type locomotive to run during the afternoon. It was a cold miserable day there and we had a lot of people coming by. In addition, the Easter Bunny photo establishment is just in front of our area, actually situated between the G scale layout across from us and our space.

The steam engine had some problems going through one of the O72 switches, and took a tumble to the carpeted floor once, and derailed about 5 times.  I think the pilot spring could be bolstered and hopefully that may help.

The high point for me was running my baby Madison Pullman coaches for the first time.  I bought them NIB in December and have been waiting until the layout was farther along so the train could run over the enitre system of interconnected loops, and it it did.

Don't know yet what I will do on this second cold dreary day.  I do have some obligations that I would rather avoid, but it's probably best to just get it over with.

Temp is 50 with cloudy skies.

I ran some steamers yesterday afternoon with just a couple drops of Supersmoke in them. The house still smells like American Flyer. Joe I have not seen the cars you are asking about, but then I wasn't looking for them either. When you think about most of these show they are selling PW or conventional stuff.  They might show up at shows in the Penn state though. I think this will be a stay at home day...S.J.

Thanks John. Now I just need to find your email address... Bang Head If any of you guys have John's and mine, can you forward it to me???

I HATE CARS!

There I said it.

I HATE CARS!

This morning on my way to work my 'Service Engine Soon' light came on. Nothing wrong with the engine, still humming like a pro. Will have to pull the code when I get home tonight. I bought a code reader from BAVAUTO a couple years ago because the local dealer wants $250 to read a code... REALLY!!!! $250 to hook up a reader, start the engine, and push a button to read the code. THAT is insane... oh if you have the repair done there they will not charge you the $250 'diagnostic fee'. I really need to get in on that scam!

The repair manuals have shipped and should be here on Wednesday. So Wednesday night I'll spend a few hours reading up on the repairs for the 3series, then Saturday spend the day fixing the car. Then I'll read up on how to 'access' the washer fluid tank on the 5series, order the parts, and then next weekend fix the 5series.

Also priced tires for my 3series and TheQ's Murano. Hopefully we can hold out till the local tire place does their 4 for 3 deal this Summer. (fingers crossed)

Got a couple gift cards to HomeDepot for my birthday, stopped there yesterday and picked up some spackle (the stuff I had started to mold), new sanding blocks, and a new 4 cycle blower/vac. This is the 3rd blower/vac I have had to purchase since moving into the house in '07. That is just insane. I really dislike 2 cycle engines. You get the fuel mix wrong just ONCE and the darned things just die. Weed wacker is a 4 cycle engine as well and it has been going strong for 6 years. Probably take it in for service before Summer just to keep it running.

Thinking of taking a course on small engine repair so I can learn to do this stuff my self...

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO YORK!

Aloha. Boy, that time change somehow wipes me out. We got lots of rain Saturday and yesterday. It washed away much of the snow, but some of this will be here in June there's just so much. The weekend was a blur. I drove our boy back to college in a fog-storm, where fog was rolling off the snow as the rain came down. Weird weather .And of course, everyone's driving like maniacs anyway. I think he got a confirmed summer job again at Cedar Point amusement park. I'm happy about that.  I also worked all weekend as video director at church. As long as my son was around, I did successfully part with our old seemingly-1,000 pound TV - new e-waste rules meant we had to drop it off at Best Buy. Now my daughter comes in for her spring break - she's got a week of 'real job' interviews lined up in Chicago. Can't believe she's graduating this May...  Happy belated B-day to Sandra, Kev.

Good subject for discussion. A majority of Americans don't like the time changes, so why not leave them alone?

Another cold and miserable snow melting day on the North Bluff. I am running late today.

The time change even effects us retired guys. I slept in an hour longer than normal and almost missed Perry Mason. So now it is already after 10:00 and I am having some coffeecake with Pepsi as brunch. The wife had a fit this morning when she let the cat out because there was another big black cat on the front porch so she made me get up to run it off. Lets just say I used up two of its nine lives. I went out to find him a bit ago and he is not around. Chief you want a black cat for your box mouse patrol? Confused

8N my Burro crane was very loud when I got it and gave me fits but after taking it apart and greasing the gears and lubing the motor it now runs quiet in both directions. BTW, sounds like you picked a nice spot for your retirement home. Just look close at who will be your neighbors. Whistling

The only things I have left to say on the manual transfer box is that mine is attached to the house wiring and will be legal when we sell the house as generator ready. Also even my wife knows how to fire up the system safely if I am not here. There are a lot of ways to do something but few are right according to local public codes.

SJ, The Robbins have finally returned from the south!!! The meat loaf was great. Yes

Have a good day all!

8n,

Sound like the 60 is missing the bearing ball (50-102) that sits between the top of the armature shaft and brushplate. Could also be the lower bushing is worn, but I'd check that bearing ball first.  It is real easy to lose.  The 60 trolley is identical to the 50 gang car mechanically.

Ryan,

This EE thinks he might have made a mistake.  I am sticking to the computer side of my degree after spending 6 months in an industrial setting.  All this talk of generators and transfer switches is bringing back bad memories.  Oh, and Option #1 by the way.Wink

Brent,

Just ignore the check engine light.Wink  That crossbred Mazda disaster that I am stuck with has been throwing a catalyst inefficiency code, but at 199,900, I don't really care.Surprise

SJ,

It's sad how the market has fallen apart for PW Lionel.  It's not worth selling.  I've been parting common items to try and help the market.Smile  So far, three 3656 corrals (still have nine that I know of) and one 2055 have fallen.

No cats walking on my layout. No no.  The holes plugged and the "blue candy" works great.

KEV, my wife knows that is a generator and that is it.  She did not even pump her own gas for her car until 6 years ago.  She still tries to see to it that I do the pumping.  She has finally learned how to crank her tiller and leaf blower.  Mow grass, she would not know how to crank the JD.  Great at flower and shrub gardening and landscaping by hand.  She knows how to use a pick, grubbing hoe, shovel and rake.

Now to go back to the house from Town Hall.

My wife sounds like yours. She has never cut a blade of grass and looks with fear at the mower. I tried to get her to learn back in 08 when they thought I had the big C but she just would not get on it. That was the little mower, she would never get on the JD. She too knows how to do all of the gardening and landscaping so I just leave it at that. I wish she would try to learn more because I am 9 years older than her and there may be a day where she will have no choice.Tongue Tied

This is all quite simple.  The women don't fear this stuff.  They don't know how or want to learn because they don't want to know how.  My wife says that's all what she calls "MW".....men's work.  The day I can't do this stuff is the day my wife will insist I hire it done.  I suppose that is segregation of duties.Laugh

.......Also priced tires for my 3series and TheQ's Murano. Hopefully we can hold out till the local tire place does their 4 for 3 deal this Summer. (fingers crossed)

Brent........go to the internet tire wholesaler tirerack.com and bone up on what you want.  Professional road test reviews, owner surveys right down to the vehicle your drive with the tires you are interested in.  Get/print out the price and take it to your local tire store.  Without blinking they will match the price on the spot and you don't have to wait for a sale.  I've been buying this way from my local tire dealer(s) (currently Town Fair tire, largest in the Northeast) for two decades!!!!

No subscription required or fees.  You will be able to use tirerack's questionairre to help you narrow down the list tires you are interested in, based on your driving and weather preferences...... and the survey data then matches against your preferences.  "I want a V-rated all-season or touring tire that is quiet, rides softer, is comparatively better in the rain, and lasts a long time (mileage warranty)."  Then you can sort the results by price.  Thumbs Up

That's an awesome tire resource, Jack!

It's funny what our brides notice and what they do not. Last night, I drove her car for the first time in a while at night. Immediately, I noticed one of the headlights was out. I made the mistake of asking: 'How long has the headlight been out?'   'What headlight?' 'The same one that we replaced a month ago.'  'Which one?'  - we went back and forth a while like Phil Harris and Alice Fay. Then I gave up and mentally noted to bring it in this week. Big Smile  But if one of her friends changes a tablecloth and wears a new bracelet...

Doug Dido. Yesterday the wife was coming home up the driveway and I noticed one headlight was out. I told her to pull it into the shed and that a headlight was out. Her reply " you just changed it last month" My reply "no that was the other one" "why would it go out?"  "why not?"  "don't you ever look to see if both headlights are on when you pull into the garage?"  "what do you mean?" "nevermind"  Bang Head  Lucky for me I had a replacement. Good morning all,

Spring is here.  Nice week ahead with warm weather in the 80's

Doug da, don't think Chief wants a cat roaming around the layout either.  When my kids had N gauge years ago the cat would eat the trains or at least pick them up in her mouth.  Probably thought they were a mouse running around.  I'd like to see one pick up a heavy die cast O gauge articulated engine.  That would be a jaw breaker.  I'm surprised I don't  have more critters in my garage/train room.  It is far from air tight and has some places where they could get in.  I don't eat food in there or leave any crumbs around.  Only thing I see sometimes is spiders and rarely a lizzard. Boy I hate those things because they suprise you but they are harmless.  I have crippled a few crickets running over them with trains.

Went out to eat last night at a small family restaurant near here.  Had a chicken fried steak with gravy and mashed potatoes , vegetables , soup or salad, roll and butter, ginger bread and pudding or jello for dessert.  All for $4.95.  Bill for three people was under $20.  Unbelievable but grateful.  Last place we went was over $40 for three and I went home hungry.

later,

Ray

CNW, Doug, Jack, Kev:   I'm with ya on the Bang Head

did get some good news today.....   one of my demo contractors is leaving to do an outa state job, and is bringing me his excavator to play with for 2 weeks. that should get the land cleared to make way for the garage.......  and I'll save at least $1,000.00 in the process.  I had "other Plans" for when the wife was away this week, but playing on an excavator sounds like fun too.   He made it a point to tell me it has a Beer can holder in it, as well.

Jack - I use tirerack.com but when the local place does the 3 for 1 their price is ALWAYS lower than TireRack, plus TireRack does not include mounting, balancing, new stems, and TMS swap - all added costs depending on where you have the tires installed... and the local place knows this and points it out... so no matter their prices are better than tirerack...

Temp is 49

We have had drizzle, rain and sun today.

Not a busy day at all, I didn't even work in the train room. The only thing my wife ever notices about her car is that she always thinks the tires need air. So on we go to banilla and the Tardis...S.J.

Evening all not a lot going on tonight. Tomorrow they come to add vents to the train room/den YesBow

Just got a deal off of E-Bay a tmcc set for $50 hand controller in original box, Power Master, and command base. had a buy it now price of $49.95 so I jumped.

Will need to get cables for the PM but thats okay and because of a overlook on a bad deal that I returned I have the plug for the Command base. wanted another Command base to run the shelf layout. as it will be on its own transformer. (probably the R)

Oh did a good one tonight Bang Head I had put up tarps so the dust wouldn't get into the trains on the shelves. Well decided to run a tmcc engine that I haven't ran in a long time well all went well till it goto where the one tarp was and it ran over the tarp and stopped (I thought there was a short I killed the power real quick on the ZW. got up to see what was what and go hey dummy these engines don't run very well on plastic. Laugh

Well guess I'll wait for the tardis and see who all jumps on. Talk to you all later.

SPECIAL PRAYER FOR ALEXIS. Angel

Evening all.  Breezy but warm.  T'storms may blow through.  Trane is sending new control board for Box unit.  Will not take the commands that set it up to control temp varriances.  Heats and cools but set on 63 and it heats to 70.

KEV, my Wifey is 12 years younger.  Jack is right.  They are like the story my old Vo Ag teacher told us when we were in  high school.  His Dad took him and his little brother to milk the cow one morning.  His little brother energeticly [may not be a word] went right on and learned.  Ag teacher never could get the hang of it.  Guess who had to get up early each morning and milk the cow?

Now for popcorn and TV.
