Evenin' All.

Tryin' to get familiarized with the new software, jury is still out. Indifferent

Finally a day that it didn't get into triple digits, close but no cigar. Only ran the AC for about four hours. If this keeps up may have to take out a second to pay the electric bill next month. Crying

Got a few fires burning in the mountains thanks to the daily thunder storms that developed from the monsoonal moisture coming from Mexico via Arizona. Even had a tornado touch down a little north of here around Lake Elsinore.

Will be helping our daughter get her classroom ready tomorrow, school starts on monday.

Club's monthly meeting tomorrow nite then museum duty friday and probably saturday as well. If I have to run on saturday I might see if the munchkin wants to run trains with grampa at the museum, but that would require that mommy, daddy or granny provide transportation. A full day for a little'un is to many hours.

Anybody got a part # and source for a K-Line GP38 traction tire(s).

Prayers for Brutus's Mom & Dad, Jeff's Mom, Charlie's Dad and BOC. Hope I didn't forget anybody.

Ray, Whenever I make a pasta sauce I always use a little sugar in it to help offset the acid from the tomatoes/tomatoe sauce.

Nite All !

Good morning all,

It is hot in SE Indiana again.  Been busy the past few days and it seems as if I have missed some "fun" with the new forum.  Will give soccer update later.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Well, when some one screws up a one car funeral procession, they need to know it.  Overall, it is going to be fine.  Just need more instructions on how to get things "customized" to each individual's liking.  Now I see a thread complaining by some hardly ever posters. HA !

Have a great day.

Aloha. Rained here too, Kev.  Brutus, I couldn't get Yahoo Messenger back from the other computer. Sorry for such a brief chat. Prayers for your mom's surgery this morning.  Jack, your car woes sound a little like mine - the airbag light keeps going on in the bride's car. I've taken it to the dealer three times, they've replaced a few things, but then it blipped back on. Finally today, I left it and got a loaner for the day. They're going to call the factory and see what's up. Trying a photo - view from the old Dearborn station tower:

RockIsland52

Well, the car wars continue.  4 of the 34 LEDs located in the rear hatch high mount brake light bar went dead, a sealed unit, you cant just change bulbs.  I thought LEDs were supposed to last hundreds of thousands of hours.  The item is not covered under the warranty extension (no bulbs or sealed beams), the part is $550, and they want two hours of labor to boot to swap out the assemblies.  That essentially comes down to $186.50 per LED bulb!!!!  Since the brake light bar is I assume considered safety equipment, and my annual vehicle inspection comes up in about 4 months, I have a decision to make.  And who knows how picky a state or local police officer might get if I put this off and get pulled over?

Jack if you still have 30 of the 34 LEDs working in that bar then I would think your fine as far as safety inspection. I think I would live with it till they all burn out or I won the LOTO. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning. It's 80° and already feels like 87°. Humidity is 90%. It'll be mostly cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will will be 94° with an index of 106°.

The parish is out here doing road work which should have be done years ago. But it is finally being done, or at least most of it. They're making plenty of racket and having a high old time doing it.

Early this morning I made a short video showing the newly rebuilt FP7 in action. The howl as the locos pass the camera is from the Atlas GP40 on point. It's all original with the exception of the body which is Bachmann. The motor in it is on the way out and will have to be replaced at some point.

No plans for today except for cleaning up my work area a bit. The work of the last couple of days has made a real wreck of it.

Hey guys!

Still navagating the forum....SEEMS like its better for me.

Rained yesterday, cancelled softball.  Gave me time to work on the Road Runner.  We now have brakes.  Replaced the faulty (brand new) wheel cylinder, now have hard pedal and no air bubbles!!  Put the BIG tires on the rear and need to connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold and then drop it on the ground.  Fuel systems and ignition systems next.

Cool and less humidity now in the low 80's.

Jeff - your ingenuity is amazing.  I can't get the video at work, but the MONSTER LOCOS are pretty cool!

Thumbs Up on Charlies Dad

Angel for those in need.

Will check back later.

Good morning all,

V8 Dennis, I hope to get denture back this afternoon so I can eat out tonight.

Doug not grumpy, thanks for the tip on sugar in the tomato sauce.  Does sugar neutralize acid?

Chief, re belly aching,  If we didn't have anything to complain about we wouldn't be happy.  It's just like the Army.

Got a new development on the car yesterday.  Now it won't start sometimes on the first try.  Acts like it is not getting any gas until you pump some up from the tank.  Does it more often after a short trip and then trying to restart after a short time.  When it sat all night it started right up first try.  If I have to take it anywhere, it won't be the Honda dealer this time.

I am able to function on the forum but jury is still out.

later,

Ray

Hello all

Still up at the 'scope. Head back to the Ol' Pueblo this afternoon. We got quite a bit of rain here last night.

Brutus - prayers for your mom's surgery

Jeffrey - nice work! Now we need to find you some Alco's if you don't already have some

Anj - the Roadrunner is getting near the road!

Jack - maybe you should tell the dealer to "get the LED out"Laugh

Tried to put some music on the MP3 player I got a while back. Drag and drop doesn't seem to be doing it or it doesn't like the format. Just goes in this mode where it says "refreshing your media" forever. MP3 player 1 Bob 0. Guess I'll try again later.

On a better note. I was browsing my favorite ebay sellers store (oops) and found a good deal on a K-line rotating beacon and a 2035 locomotive. Apparently this is just like my 2025 w/ Magnatraction. Someday soon I will have double-header action on the layout!

The motor for one of my Atlas GP40's came out of an Alco, a Proto 2000 PA1 to be exact. The body on it was busted and one of the trucks was cracked so it became a projects parts source.

Prayers continue to be answered.  Today Dad whispered to me, "When can I get the #$%! out of here."  He continues to make progress.  Really amazing considering he was a flat line last Friday morning.

I guess there is another plan for him.

If he continues to progress I plan to make the Lionel Open House in Ohio on Saturday.  Some train time will be good.

Today I'm working on another Atlas GP40, the one that was in this mornings video. This one won't have any flywheels for the simple reason that I don't have any that are compatible. Like the FP7, this will be a project using parts from several manufacturers. Namely Atlas/Life-Like/Athearn/Bachmann. The frame and trucks are Atlas, the body is from Bachmann. That was easy. A couple of the shaft couplings are Proto 2000 (Life-Like) and the rest of the shaft components are Athearn. The photo below shows my progress at this point.

Well I got the GP40 wired up for DCC. An old Bachmann decoder is the best I can do for it right now. I definitely need to get a Digitrax decoder into it. I have a DH123 but I don't have a 9-pin harness for it. I just tested the loco on DCC. It creeps with the throttle just cracked. At high speed it goes to warp three and will almost flip off the curves! Too fast! Another problem is that the Bachmann decoder (board type) pushes the shell up and therefore the couplers are too high. Another good reason for getting a smaller decoder into it. Oh, I know the question that's coming. Why don't I use the decoder that was in it this morning? Simple. It fried when the motor kicked the bucket this morning.

Buckeye Riveter

It looks like this may work on the IPod.

 Buckeye,

What is an IPOD ???????????   Sounds like something you would find in the bathroom. Laugh

Well I spent most of my day in the train room doing some switchyard track re-configuration to get more space. I need to make a strip of track for the # 50 gang car to run on and a place for the truck dock I just won on the bay. Confused

That is one of the things I like about having the flat line, change your mind, pick it up and move it.

The rain turned out to be yet another letdown just .5" again. No water running anywhere around here. Sad

Have a nice night and prayers for all in need. Angel

Calling it a night a little early. I'm tired tonight for some reason.

Is there a record for the worlds fastest model loco? Don't know if this can be called fast but it can sure move. Click this line to see the video and don't blink.

Looking for the TARDIS.  County fairs sure are fun, Harold. Great comment from your da, Charlie!

What a car saga today: Dropped it off for service because the airbag problem indicator keeps going off. Turns out the heated seats are setting off the sensor because they're not OEM as I thought when I bought the car. Their solution: take out the seats. So after more than a few phone calls, back it goes to the original dealer next week (which is a long drive away), to see if the seat installers can 'adjust' things - and wouldn't you know, I am 9 days past the deadline for filing for anything for the state's lemon law.  Ah, I feel better now just for sharing!

Doug - neat pic!  Hope they get those seats fixed, or the airbag!

Prayers for Charlie's Dad - good news man!

Mom had surgery this morning and was in a regular room by about 11 AM.  She had a left upper lobectomy.  She is doing very well, doing her breathing exercises.  They had to "pop" her left lower lung lobe, as it had not reinflated on its own.  After that, she was feeling a lot better.  They could not do an epidural, which is a shame.  She has a nerve block, but that will be wearing off tonight and she will be on pain meds in her drip and she has a pain pump with fentanyl as well.  They said they had to take several extra lymph nodes and we're not sure about chemo right now, but I just figure they will do that as well.   She will be able to get up and walk tomorrow and may be out of the hospital by Tuesday if there are no complications and she can do all her therapy.  Thanks for prayers and kind thoughts, they are working.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I"m homeward bound tomorrow.  Here I am in the Detroit area with the Dream Cruse starting tonight, but had a business dinner Sad that lasted too long.  Oh well, maybe next year.  I have seen a bunch of unusual iron driving around the last couple of days, so I didn't completely miss everything.

Had dinner in Brighton with a friend last night.  As we were leaving there was a lady in a late 50's Porshe roadster waiting for us at the cross walk.  We waved her by, saying something about waiting to see if she would stall it so we could laugh.  She laughed at us as she drove off.

Prayers for continued healing.  Noticed that some good news was posted in this regard.

About the only thing on the train front was that I picked up MTH 2012 vol. 1&2 catalogs at the train shop in Plymouth.  Leafed through them, but did not see any 'must have' items.

All for now.
