Congrats to you too RI Jack. give you wife my condolances. How many years have the two of you made it?.

P.S. Yes we have AC in everything but the gator. Wink

KEV......this is the second go-around for each of us.  I met Pam 30 years ago, took it slow and sure, and we have been married for 24!!!!  I am a short-timer compared to some of the royalty on the POT (they paid me to say that Laugh).

The local weather news out here said that some Illinoisians had record high temperatures today (Midway Airport for one locale).  Any truth to that?  Today I am running the A/C for the first time this year, just to make sure all is in order; but I am sure my son had it cranking while we were on our road trip to the Midwest because the temps here in the Northeast hit the 90s while we were gone.

By the way, your containment dike looks far better than the ones we saw Southeast of Chicago on our return trip home.  And unlike those, yours probably works too. Big Smile

Jack, Your more like me that you would like to admit. Surprise

I am on wife # 3 but I made my mistakes early and moved on.

Sandra and I will be at 30 years of being together this Oct and 26 years of marriage. We too took it slow with my track record to that point. Sandra is truly an angle to put up with me. Angel

For the weather…….. it is hotter than the hubs of he&l, whatever that means.

Like in 1988 the crops are cooking in the fields and the Japanese Beatles are going nuts. I fill a bag to the top in 20 hours with the little creeps. It has cooled off to 98 and someone said something about something called Rain???

Waiting for the Wifey to get her --- in gear and go to the lake.  Got a few tiny things done in the Box.  Other section painted to seal.  Now ready to lay more track.  HOT and hotter tomorrow and Saturday.  Thin 100's thru the middle of next week.  Had to water the gardens and flowers.  Chat tomorrow.

Gave my nephew and and one of his friends some help on putting an ATV back together today then went to my parents place for dinner. Had a pork chop with mixed veggies. My fathers idea of adjusting his diet to fit his new diabetic lifestyle. Had watermelon afterward. Went through my mail and tossed out the obvious junk. Looked through the bills just as a matter of course. They're all paid automatically so I don't have to mess with them anyway. Got an acceptance packet from the American Legion, most of which went to the shredder. My dates of service fall outside those accepted so I couldn't join even if I wanted to. I kept the window stickers and address labels though. No sense throwing them out when I can use them for their intended purpose.

It's 94 now. was 99 earlier. We really need rain but none is in the forecast. No we did not sit out tonight. Paid $3.36 for regular on the way to the doctors. They Dopplered my innards, got an EKG, we spoke a few words and I was home in an hour and 1/2. I had my banilla but we got a fresh supply so come on in...S.J.

Good evening everyone.  Was a long day and will be a longer one tomorrow.  I have to go in early for a meeting, so I will be stuck till all cases are done.

Doug, sorry for the loss of your cat.  Tough when we lose a companion like that.

BOC, hope you are on the mend soon.  I think you have had more than your share of difficulty this year.

God bless everyone,

Dennis

Thanks for the well wishes on our 37th wedding anniversary.  You wouldn't believe how a little bit of oil and gas in Eastern Ohio has changed my life.  I am busier than a one armed paper hanger with bad paste.  It is not the wells that are producing the work, it is the transmission systems for the oil and gas.

Time for me to call it a night. I've taken my night meds and the nightly insulin shot is next. I was quite busy today and I ache in a few places I haven't ached in for a while. I'm watching a Chuck Norris movie tonight. Something called 'Forced Vengeance'. What the heck, it has a three and a half star rating. Maybe I'll stay awake long enough to see Chuck hand somebody their butt after he kicks it off. Only loco run today was the Bachmann Niagara. The Norscot bulldozer is still submerged in alcohol. Not so much as a loose flake of paint. It's been over twenty-four hours. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello all

Busy, busy.

Down from mountain last Wednesday. Up and back from Phoenix on Thursday w/ VW. Back up other mountain for campout over the weekend. Go back up regular mountain on Monday until Tuesday. Did Holter monitor test while I was up there. No problems w/ me on mountain. Rush back Tuesday to get the monitor back. Collapse on Wednesday. Whew!

More car tinkering and picking up on odds and ends over the next few days before I go up to CO/SD on Monday.

Pics still forthcoming. Bus did great going up the hill for the campout BTW.

Good morning. It's 79° and partly cloudy. The high will be 98°.

Well since the first falls on a weekend this time around my SS check is probably at the bank already. If not then tomorrow. I'll call later and find out. If it's there today then I'll be out paying some bills, buying gas and groceries. Sometime this weekend I need to mow my parents yard. Grass doesn't take holidays. Nothing special planned today. My parents are both out of town today visiting witch doctors in Alexandria on eye appointments. The Norscot dozer is still soaking in the alcohol. No effect yet. I wonder which will happen first? The paint comes off or the plastic disintegrates. I'm gonna find out.

Konbanwa,

Friday came and went quick.  The Princess had a dance camp recital this afternoon.  It was short and she did well.  The dance camp she attended the past two weeks blended more modern styles together, but I prefer she focus on ballet – it’s classic and more technical.  We had pizza for dinner and then the wife, youngest, and I enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood.  Tomorrow will be busy as we need to finish getting ready for tomorrow night’s dinner party.

Doug – I’m sorry about your cat.

Bob – I’m glad the VW trip went well.

Sayonara,

Joe

BOC.....I've been thinking about you and praying that your treatments are highly successful, again.  Hang in there, buddy.  BTW, Chuck provided us with an interestting photo or two of him and his health care workers last year, but I dont see any from you.  Is there a reason for that?  Smile, Wink & Grin

Jack.

Yes...I'm all baggy and saggy with next to no hair!!LaughLaugh

BOC......good luck on your last round of treatment today. Angel

Don't feel too bad.  Yesterday I went to get my passport renewed as my old one had expired.  A new photo was required.  When I compared the current photo with the one from 15 years ago I was shocked.....looked like I had aged 40 years.  Wifey laughed when she looked at the new (extra) passport photo and the old one, then commented that despite the suntan on my new photo I looked like hard living was catching up to me.  Bang Head  Told her it must have been the ravages of marriage, the camera, or the photographer. Laugh

Fife recently mentioned he wanted to lose some weight.  I started watching mine (again) right after the annual holidays gluttony.  Despite dropping about 20 since then, my belly still makes me look like I am either suffering from malnutrition or am 5 months pregnant. Bang HeadSmile, Wink & Grin  Told the wifey it was genetic and there was nothing I could do about it. Wink

Good Morning CTTFans,

Well, for the most part we have had weather that is helping the Fire Fighters get control of things and these same storms have brought Wind / Lightning and more fires yet have started.  The newsest big one broke out near Grand Junction (Pine Ridge) and is already at 10,000 acres and I-70 is now closed near the fire

Good Morning Ya'll From Overcast Taxachusetts,

The hot weather the rest of you have been getting is finally upon me.  90+ the next two days with scattered thunderstorms.  We already got a pretty good shower this morning and really needed it as watering bans are in effect in the surrounding communities and I suspect I am next.  I have given up trying to catch up on the POT postings from my 10 day leave of absence, so my apologies go out to anyone needing prayers at this time.

My FIL actually kept his Doctor's appointment earlier this week (without reminder or prodding) which in and of itself is an absolute  miracle for him.  His PCP physician worked out plans for the next month which are to keep things moving in the right direction (strength, conditioning, stamina, breathing) with the goal of getting him to a better state than he has been in for the past two plus years.  He also reversed himself and will now be "allowing" the at-home physical therapist back for weekly visits for the next few weeks.  And the PCP has hooked up with his cardiologist and pulmonary specialist to make sure everything is moving in the right direction and everyone is on the same page.  You guys were right.  if he thinks he is driving his bus and making the decisions he is far more receptive to changing his thinking and action.

FIL's over-the-range microwave he/MIL uses extensively died after 22 years of service.  Naturally, Mr "I refuse to have a PC in my house" called and had me looking on the internet for a replacement (Home Depot).  Spent two hours going over specs, assembled and and cut-out dimensions, prices, features, venting, brands, consumer reviews and ratings.......think I finally found a GE that meets his discrimminating criteria, though they don't make anything as small (1 cubic foot capacity) or as low in output (650 watts) as what he had, regardless of price.  Free home delivery and HD-contracted out installation will mean all he has to do is let the guy in the house, charge it, and have the guy haul off the old one.  Healthwise, one thing that is working well is his brain, to my detriment !!!!!

Dennis.....prayers continue that the next and final step in your adoption process, prior to the China trip "green light," falls into place in short order.  I am still amazed at the time and extreme effort that has been required.  How you and your wife have kept hammering away at this is inspiring.  Up, over, around, or through. AngelThumbs UpBow  There is no quit in you two.

Darren......a few weeks ago you noted that the Colorado fires might go down as the worst in state history.  And matters have only gotten progressively worse.  Angel

LEE........hope you are not floating away in the Florida floods.  What a mess!!!!

Jeffrey.........your comment and that of DougM about automotive air conditioning that isn't working has me picturing the two of you driving around with a meat thermometer in your mouths. Smile, Wink & Grin  And good luck getting your Dad to cave in to a lower sugar diet.  If he is anything like my FIL, a miracle will be required for such significant lifestyle changes.  And I hope in the process you are taking better care of yourself.  I was thinking of you and your train room air conditioning unit when I was monkeying with mine yesterday. Bow

RaySP.....  Angelyour tummy has settled back down and that you are finding your meds are effective.  Re that possible upcoming reunion trip, do what you are comfortable with......and remember how much easier this trip may be for you with a friend driving versus your recent flight out East to visit your sister and relatives.

V8.........me?  I would have done what you did with that tooth.  Nothing ventured nothing gained, and I think the opportunity was worth the risk, even though it didn't work out that way.  Thumbs Up

DougM........really liked that photo of you and your boy.  I hope your eye stuff continues to move forward successfully.  Angel

Brutus........what on earth was Char thinking when she ventured out East leaving you in charge of Fort Fortner and the troops? Laugh

SJ........my wife and I would love to sit outside on the warm Summer evenings at night except for the fact that we would get bitten by a zillion mosquitoes.  Applying deep Woods Off helps, but we have been toying with the idea of buying one of those larger Sunsetter awnings with the side netting.  Some of them actually come with an electric retracting feature for easier deployment and for storage when not in use.  The wifey in the meantime picked up two of those 10' X 10' canopy "pop-ups" with side netting.  We'll see how those work out on our deck in the meantime.  The only problem with those is convenience......ya gotta take off the canopy when not in use or the wind turns the entire apparatus into a pretzel.

Buckeye......in today's job economy, being busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger with a bad batch of paste is better than the alternative.  In Eastern Ohio, so close to Pennsylvania, you must be picking up a Pennsylvania dialect like LAZ'.  Whistling

KEVIN........of course we are alike, proper Northern gentlemen from the Midwest, unlike the Chief.  he is envious of us.

MikeC.....you will be glad to hear that my son-in-law has been keeping me up to speed on the European soccer tournament.  Think he says the Germans are the best of the bunch.

JoeyD......why is it when my Red Sox are poised to gain a game on the Yankees they waste a stellar pitching performance and go down at Seattle 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th?  Bang Head

Rich......que pasa?

Chief......I got to wondering how hot and humid it gets in the BOX with these high 90s extreme temperatures you have been getting.

LAZ........how is the post hole digging coming along?  Nice weather for it......NOT!!!  Smile, Wink & Grin

Later, gang.

Jack

Hello all,

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Busy week, returning from vacation was extra hectic for some reason.

I see I missed some anniversaries  and couple of  birthdays. Belated best wishes.

BOC   Hang in there

Those Colorado fires are really disheartening. We traveled through the smoke of an out of control "controlled burn" from the Croatian National Forest going both directions.

Sub Bob. your VW Bus reminds me of my uncle traveling from New Mexico to Pa many years ago in one. While bragging how little gas he used he told the story of getting up close behind an 18 wheeler and taking his foot off the gas for hours at a time.

Not much on the Train front. Too much farming needs done. Hope to get back over the weekend

Prayers for those in need

Good morning all,

Just a quick note here.  Still have some catch up to do on the pot since I was AWOL yesterday.  I was able to make the get together of retired railroad engineers and trainmen yesterday after all.  Did not feel 100% but glad I went.  A fellow retiree did the driving.  Saw a lot of faces for the first time in 12 years.  They sent me some photos which made it special.

Happy birthday to Mrs RT and Happy wedding anniversary to both you and Buckeye.

Doug Murphy, I heard you lost your kitty.  I'm so sorry to hear that.

Kev, re voting along party lines on the Supreme Court,  I thought Roberts was a Republican so apparently he didn't.

Well the rain missed us by about 2 miles to the north. Sad Worked on some low cost grade crossing for the layout. They will do.

Yeah Ray I know he is. Maybe they sit in the back room and draw straws to see who will cross the party line when they think they know what the right answer is but don’t want to show it or admit to it. Laugh  I try not to get too upset about things, hard on the stomach you know. Whistling

Bow

Well he's always getting on my mother about her diet. Now he's going to me and my sister getting on him about his. Hey, your comment about monkeying around with the a/c unit conjured up a picture of you swinging through the treetops with it. If mine needs to be changed out it's a two person operation. It a 12,000 Btu unit and is just a little on the hefty side.

Man, it's 91° and feels like 107°! The humidity is 46%. I got the bills paid, got the vans tank filled and got the first half of the groceries. Dang engine vapor locked at Wal-Mart again. Seems there and the bank are the only two places it does it. A shot of staring fluid and it fires right up. Long as I was moving the heat was tolerable but if I had to stop or slow down in traffic it started heating up inside that old van big time. No a/c, no vent blower, the humidity and  the temp was kicking my butt. I had the windows down but that doesn't do any good if there's no air movement. Got back home and one of my nephews friends had my driveway blocked. So I hit the air horn a few times and he comes running out to get his truck out of the way. Would've been nice if he parked it out of the way in the first place. The groceries that needed refrigeration were still cold. Got everything unloaded and put away. Now I'm just trying to get cool again.

Jeff you need to put a power inverter in the van and get a 5,000 BTU a/c and mount it in one of the rear door windows. I've seen a few like that actually and my point if it works and keep me comfortable do it. Laugh

Time to go make something for dinner swiss steaks are still frozen so they will be dinner tomorrow night.
