Good morning all! Nice summer day today, sunny and warm.

Went over to #2 daughters house after work yesterday and powerwashed the north side of her house when I noticed water gushing out from below. Bad seal. Well out came the ladder, bucket and brushes. Thank God it was on the 1 story side.

Later today I'll call around to borow one because I need to do our house and it's a Bi-Level, followed buy some extra landscaping as we are having some relatives from Texas over next weekend.

CC goes for the Yanks tonight against Dickey. Can't be much fun trying to hit his knuckleball.

DevilRich - That looks nice. If I didn't own just steamers that would have to be my choice.

HudsonJohn - Got any powerwashers? (I know you do)

Good morning. It's 83° and partly cloudy. The high will be 98° and it will be mostly sunny.

I have to do some clean up work on the layout today. There's one outdoor job to get done. Changing out the left front turn/park light bulb on the van. Other than that it's just relax, watch some movies and run some trains.

I should be able to get to it before I get too old to work on stuff. I did use reading glasses to view the HO layout but that is alright..

That was much my problem with N Scale. Back up three feet and a little detail could be seen. Back up six feet and - detail? What detail! Everything blended together and was lost. So when I started planning for a new layout in the mid 90's it was a toss-up between HO and O. O would be easier to handle but in the space I had available I was looking at very sharp curves and wouldn't be able to have the kind of layout I wanted. So the nod went to HO. Even though I'm still restricted to sharp curves I have space to build scenery and run long trains without it looking too much like a toy. It was also far less expensive which was music to my tight budget which is even tighter now.

We hit 104F yesterday and they say we will be over 100F again today...

Fires are breaking containment as well as more started.  Several more homes have been lost all over the state as Colorado burns.  It's a sad weekend here for lots of folks...

Man, that's a lot of fires. Fighting fires used to be one of my jobs. I worked as a volunteer so I never got a penny for it and it wasn't unusual to finish one fire and move right on to another one. Busiest day I had was fighting three forest fires. Two in Louisiana the other in Texas. I finally got home at two the next morning. I have a lot of respect for fire fighters, paid or volunteer and I don't envy them one bit.

Buckeye is always full of GAS!!!!   Not down here as when he visited the Raleigh area, slipped into his hotel room and implanted a tracking device.  Tracking him everywhere he goes.

Joe [Demay], saw something in Sunday School bulliten.  Collect un-used coupons and send them overseas for military families to use in the BX.  Is this possible?  If so, give us your mailing address.  I'm sure all of us can help with that.

So hot today wifey asked if we could go in the basement and run trains. 

I finished the under the table wiring and all of the buildings and the welding scene are working fine.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s again.  A long, long and unusual weekend.  Friday night was spent at "Rock of Ages".  You either like the concept or you hate it.  We loved it.  Tom Cruise was a riot again as was Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand.  Saturday morning was nice and surprising.  Was at an open house for a local woodcarving place, which was nice in and of itself.  A couple perhaps somewhat older than us sat across from at the luncheon the place was having and later their son and daughter-in-law.  Son had a Target T-shirt on relating to Indy car.  I commented on the nice shirt, and he said it was compliments of his wife, who was the financial controller for Ganassi racing.  That opened the flood gates.  I told them about going to 50 500s and she not only showed me a ring from being on the winning team at the 500, she let me hold it.   Definitely a moment to remember.  I told them I was a huge SFHR and AJ fan, but it was all good.  Then spent a long, frustrating afternoon in Bloomington trying to reconcile son and daughter.  Not sure much progress was made, but I guess realistically I did not expect much.  Did get to watch F-1 today and England v. Italy.  Oh, yeah, Indy car race was a disaster last night as both Newgarden and Conway dropped out.  Could have been a better weekend.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good evening everyone.  Was a fun day with church, then we had a adoption resource group that is being formed.  It was interesting in that one couple in Sunday School asked for prayer regarding an adoption.  I spoke to them afterwards and invited them to the meeting.  This is exactly the type of folks we are trying to help.

In evening church, we watched a video taken by soldiers in Afghanistan.  They had seen the movie Courageous and read the book.  All stated how it had changed their lives and impacted them.  I am humbled to have been a part of this.  What a blessing!

Since I start call in the morning, I will go in late and thus my bride and I can watch a movie after the kids get to sleep. It will be nice to have a little time together.  Before long, we will have little time when we add two two year olds to the mix.

Time for me to call it a night. I thought I might get more than one question about the moon gate in last nights photo. Guess that's what I get for thinking. Only work on the layout was putting a bulb in the cab of one of the GP9's, a Frankenstein naturally. It's the third loco in a consist of three and runs long hood forward. The light blinks on and off as the train travels around the layout. Just seemed like something to do. The fun was mounting it so it doesn't light up the whole cab, just the headlight. I also changed out a turn signal bulb on the van. It was burned out as I had figured. Smoke had chromed the entire inner surface of the bulb. Went to my parents place today for lunch. Two bowls of pinto beans, three big pieces of corn bread and five green onions topped off a couple hours later with a good sized piece of watermelon. Good thing I live alone. Any bugs in the house will be dead by morning due to biological warfare. See y'all tomorrow.

Just got back home this evening.  Mom had outpatient surgery on Friday.  Everything went well and she was resting comfortably on Saturday.

Put a little over 1400 miles on the Cobalt SS since Wednesday afternoon on the trip to Michigan.  Averaged 35.9MPG. Mostly highway miles with the A/C running - and libral use of the supercharger when merging .

The dashboard thermometer read as high as 104 degrees just west of St Louis.  But that is in a black car with a black interior on fresh blacktop in the full afternoon sun.  Still.....

The three flatcars and 1961 Lionel catalog I won on e-bay were waiting for me when I got home.  OK pieces - about what I expected for the price I paid.

The I Love Toy Trains shop in New Buffalo, Mi. is under new ownership.  The new owner calls it the I Love Toys and Trains shop.  Still has a good selection of new and used O gage stuff, but has added some high end toys aimed at pre-school aged kids of the type that grandparents would be likely to buy.  They are still a Lionel service station too.

Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and the usual chores to do. Then, a project to work on. Maybe a nap after lunch.

Good morning ya'll from overcast Taxachusetts,

It has been a very long 10 days since I last checked in.  Got back last night from our family road trip (two cars) out to Elgin IL.and back to visit the FIL in the hospital, get him home, and get things somewhat organized going forward for MIL and FIL.  

The good news is that things are stable, or as stable as they can be.  The bad news is that the FIL was fighting everything (as usual), from the prescription medications to the visiting nurse to the physical tharapist.  The short of it is, while the help and concern is appreciated by my FIL, there is no changing a 91 year old man who continues to refuse to listen and follow the simplest instructions because he insists on doing things his way, or not doing some of the important things at all.  Nothing good can come from it. 

Common sense is out the window.  My wife and my Mother-in-law are totally stressed out and very worried.  Maybe his primary care physician whom he sees every decade or so can talk some sense into him tomorrow......if he decides to keep the appointment.

Ditto on weather, temps in the 80s.  I hear you, Brutus, on the family drama.  It just gets...old.  Could not balance the check book last night.  Finally gave up.  At least I closed and balance quickly this morning for month end.  A project I had worked on a long time ago and decided it was time to finish came to a crashing and unceremonious end Sunday as well.  Very very very disappointing.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all.  Jack, good to see you checking in.  Sorry about the things going on.  As already stated, you will not have success trying to sway a 91 yo.  Accept what you can't change and make the best of it.  I would certainly tell him what you are told by the docs to tell him, but also say"you are a big boy and can make up your own mind".  Kind of like a rebellious teen, they respond better when they feel like they are making their own decisions.

Well, we are coming up on seven years since our first trip to China to get our daughter, soon we will head back.  Things are rather exciting around here at this point.  When it comes time, it will be a quick jump on the plane and go.  Wife has been packing suitcases and gathering supplies we do not know what route we will take, but if flying to Tokyo, may try to catch up with Joe.  Would be good to spend a day in Japan, but we have to stay flexible to what the agency arranges.

Going to head up and do some layout work.

Morning all.  Slow this AM.  No word from friend Fred.  Guess he is not coming to do Box work this AM.  Got 1:30 Dr's followup today.  Will do some errands this AM.

Did finish caulking around the floor and walls.  Some gaps as walls were not true in the Box.  Ran a new outlet above the workbench.  Ran switch wires from exhaust and left track lighting to under edge of layout framing near door.     

As for temps around the North.  Us nice Southern Gentlemen desided to send you all some warm Southern hospitality.

Good Morning All!

Off today, well kinda. I will go into work for a few hours later and work until 7 or 8. I borrowed a powerwasher yesterday and did the house and trimmed some trees. Hot days like yesterday is the best time for powerwashing, turned out real nice.

RIJack - Seems to me that despite being ornery he's done well making it to 91 "his way". I agree with Kev, you can't change him now. Too bad he doesn't see how it effects others.
