"Boiling" afternoon.  HOT and HUMID.  So hot dogs did not want to stay outside and play.  All the OSB is cut and screwed down except for the peninsula.  That will be the last thing done.  WHY?  Gives up room to bring in the Sound Stop.  One sheet of Sound Stop cut by utility knife.  Fred's wife called and ignition switch on her car has gone bad.  No more work this week.  I cut the first sheet by myself.  Not heavy but awkward.  Will wait for help.  We laid out track to make sure things would fit and align.  Using the Y switches I bought several years ago and never used.    Makes an easier transition on the mainline for passing sidings.  Both track move and 1/2 072 curve straightens them out.  Distance between tracks stays the same as if 072 switch was used.  This is better as, if I go to a second elevation, will use the track next to the wall as the climbing tack and this makes an easier transition.  Laying double layer of Sound Stop.  Should not take long.  Then start track laying.  With luck, this RR may run a train soon. YesBig Smile

Off to the lake house tonight.  Got another dock [better be the last one for this year] work scession tomorrow AM.  Back tomorrow afternoon for Mayors and wives thing tomorrow evening early.

Poor Mrs. LAZ. 16 years of him. Crying

Stay cool.

Will try this again, posted earlier but it came up blank?

Laz, Sounds like you are adjusting nicely to retirement & congrats on the anniversery.

Chief, You are building like a house afire. Post more pics.

After I made the post that came up blank, I went to lunch with SIL and two grandchildren, back now.

Think I will copy this one before I hit the post button and see what happens.

Seems like we are having a nationwide heat wave, all keep as cool as possible.

 SPMan:

Japanese Beatles?  Are they the same as June Bugs?  We couldn't afford powered model airplanes so we tied thread to June Bug legs and flew them instead when we were kids.

June bugs and Japanese beetles are insects of the order Coleoptera, family Scarabaeidae but are of different genus. The June Bug is sub-family Melolonthinae, genus Phyllophaga. The Japanese Beetle is has no sub-family that I can find and is listed as genus Popillia, species P. Japonica. Both are clumsy fliers. The June Bug is nocturnal whereas I'm told the Japanese Beetle moves by day.

Jeffrey, sorry I asked.  Just kidding.

Chief, what's wrong with your local GOP?  Neither party is as good as they used to be.

Blown, sorry about your storm damage.  Hope it is covered by insurance.

Had a nice get together with train friends last night.  One friend got a headlight working again in my MTH ACL E6 loco.  Saved me $200 over repair shop cost.  Another friend loaned me some rare CD's of traditional jazz revival pioneers from 30's and 40's.  Lu Waters, Turk Murphy, Bob Helm, Dick Lami, and Clancy Hayes on banjo and vocals.  This band was formed in the San Francisco Bay Area before and after WWII and some of the members went on to form their own bands.  Trying to tape the music from the CD's but I am unable to find good quality audio tape.  They just don't seem to make it anymore.  The ideal thing would be to make another CD but I don't know how to do that or have the equipment.  Some of the venues where they played was the Dawn Club, Earthquake McGoon's and Hambone Kelly's.  Just about all of the players have passed on now sadly.

Have a good day all,

Ray

This should give you a hint as to which movie I'm watching today:

An additional hint? Guest star Paul Lynde. And here's a freebie, Buster Keaton.

LAZ, only the track, transformers, some wire and buildings.  Will use some but not a lot.  Sound Stop was glued down.  Will come apart when we try to pry it up.  Did "recycle" the 2X4's from the walls of the Box.  Used them for back legs and some cross members.

John, here are some more photos.

Looking from where the peninusla will be back to the left wall.

From the left wall back to the right wall.

This is the view where the peninsula will be.  30" wide and 17 1/2 feet long.  Will be switching yard and diesel storage.  [waiting to install this so we can carry materials in easily.  Same for the narrow "bridge" for dual mainline at door.  It will have a lift bridge too.]

Most of the added on section will be part of a coal mining area.  Mountain will be where the OSB is missing.  This is so I can crawl under and get inside the mountain as a track runs through it.  This will be the last of the already framed area to cover.  Then we will know exactly how much to do for 3 dead end sidings for the mine and how much to leave uncovered.

That is all for now.  Gone till tomorrow afternoon.

I'll trade you B.O. Where low 90's for the next week.

Evening all not much going on here today. Been one of my down type days all day. I'm starting to think it has to do with a medication I take once in a while ( to help sleep as needed) well when I take it I wake up exhausted ( wake up off and on all night) and I think it also coincides with days I down and its suppose to be a anti depression med I take at night 1/2 pill. but to me it seems to be doing opposite so there might be a connection there. Well when i see my doc again I need to bring that up but guess I need to pay more attention and see if that is true.

Well hope all had a good week. I'm off for the next 7 days Yes. Trying to relax some now.

T.G.I.F.

In memory of Laz as he can't really do it anymore. He's retired. Laugh

Need to go shopping in the morning. No real train news.

Talk to you all later have a good weekend all

Ohayō,

It is a cloudy Saturday morning here.  However, we have no rain in our forecast so that is good.  The wife has a ladies function at the church this morning and I may have to assist with some childcare activities.  If not, our kids and I will have some outdoor chores to complete this morning.  We will have to do them sometime today; I would prefer to finish them before it gets hot this afternoon.

Kev – The beetle posts were fun and I figured they were in the food chain somewhere.  I’m sorry you’re having the quality issue; I hope there are no others.  I hope the granddaughter is feeling better.

SJ – Speaking of bugs, I read an article about a few cities (Gross Pointe?) in Michigan which are overrun with fish flies for a couple of days at the beginning of every summer.  Have you ever seen this?  I bet the Chief sent them from NC.

Laz – Happy Anniversary!  Be careful with already opened champagne; it goes bad quickly and can make you very sick the next morning.  I know this from experience.

Jeffrey – I am familiar with Buster Keaton’s silent films, but I have never seen him in any talkies.  His work in the silent era is amazing.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good evening everyone.  Tad on the warm side here, but with AC, hardly notice.  Was a nice day with work. Did a early morning workout, then a couple of cases, and then home with wife and kids.  Got e message from a lady who worked for a summer at the orphanage where our daughter is.  She sent a photo of our daughter and described the environment there.  It is great to get an inside view of things.  In China, some orphanages get as little as $50.00 per child per year to provide for them.  Sad.

Joe, I saw that article about the fish flies, or known as Mayflies elsewhere.  Glad we don't have such a problem here.  We do have gnats which are quite a nuscence.

Chief, you are making quite a bit of progress on the layout there.  Keep up the good work.  Regarding GOP, yeah, they are not the same party of Reagan, and the dems are not the same as the party of Tip O'Neal.  Just don't seem to have true statesmen anymore.

Laz, congrats on your anniversary.  Hope you have a wonderful celebration with your bride.

God bless,

Dennis

71 degrees now

Laz and bride, congrats. Don't give up your just getting started.

Fishflies are here now, They cover the streets near Lake Ste Clair and make a nice crunchy sound under the car tires but can be very slippery if a panic stop is needed. They go to the light, store windows get covered with them overnight. I live far enough inland that they rarely get this far. I just had some Rocky Road ice cream but got enough banilla for the guys..S.J.

Looks good.  What will you use for ground cover?

I was going to get some layout work done tonight, but my Barton shifter from American Muscle was waiting for me when I got home.  I ordered it Thursday around 4PM, and it arrived this afternoon.  It came from Malvern, PA (SE PA near Philly). Thumbs Up Can't beat AM's crew for their speed or unmatched customer service.Bow  It is a much nicer piece than the MGW that I tried previously.

Good morning. It's 73° and partly cloudy. Forecast says mostly cloudy by late afternoon. The high will be 95°. Looks like the high through the 28th will be 98°.

Well on my experiment on the effects of 91% alcohol on N Scale rolling stock I can report either success or failure depending on what you think it did. I put two N Scale cabooses (Bachmann SF and Life-Like P2K L&N) and an old Micro Machines passenger car in to soak for twelve hours at the end of which I pulled them out and set them on a paper towel to dry without rinsing.  They've sat out in the open air for around twenty hours now and show absolutely no sign of deformity. Even the handrails were not effected. The paint was effectively stripped with no damage to the models. In that it was a success. The intent was to see if the plastic would deformed and in that it was a failure as it's not deformed in any way. Nor is it brittle. I've seen many reports from modelers stating that soaking in alcohol dissolved their model but it should be noted that they had already tried other methods and the result they got could have been due to a chain reaction of chemicals. I'm now performing the same experiment on a Bachmann boxcar. Note that it went into the alcohol at 7:10 am. Therefore 7:10 pm this evening will be twelve hours.

Now as to why I'm late posting the results it couldn't be helped. Natural causes as my nephew would say. At 4:30 pm yesterday the cable went out and remained out until about 5:00 this morning. Seems Suddenlink is back in their habit of providing 'good' service that at best is total crap. So I had no internet, no home phone service with the exception of a free cell phone I got for emergency use only. More to the point my mother had no TV, no internet, no phone. What if she had to call someone regarding a medical emergency? I've had it up to the tops of my ears with this company and their lame excuses about their service. When it works it works albeit barely in many cases. Often times I have just enough upload speed to enable my VOIP phone service to work (minimum 128 kbps required) and I'm on broadband cable. There's no excuse for that!

Konbanwa,

I had an extremely busy day today working out in the yard: finished painting the fence; mowed/trimmed the grass; put up a border around the wife’s flower beds; and added dirt to the flower beds.  It wasn’t too hot today so I was happy to be outside.  However, I am bushed and ready for bed.  But before I do that I need to finish reviewing tomorrow’s Sunday school lesson; I start teaching an adult class tomorrow.

I hope you all have a great Saturday.

Sayonara,

Joe

It's 69, sunny and going to 80.

Looks like another great summer day. Granny is having lunch with her ladies Sunday school class. She did fix me an egg and bacon sandwich before she left though. 1 Zantac and yesterday's chili dogs settled pretty well last night. No major plans for the day...S.J.

Another nice day on the North Bluff. Sunny and will be mid 80s,

 No big plans for today.

Things went well yesterday with the granddaughter. I made the 80 mile round trip to get her and she was glad to see me so that always helps. Doctor said she has an upper respiratory infection and ear infection to boot. She was very good and slept about 1.5 hours when we got home. She seemed to respond well to the medication so we got the grocery shopping done too. Thanks for the concerns and well wishes. She will be fine.

LAZ congrats on 16 years, you’re a newlywed.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Chief, Box is looking good. Looks like a lot of work. Bow

Dennis & Hudson John, The passenger car was an easy fix but it should of never been needed. Looks like the assembler had the wires to the pick-up trucks too tight coming out of the body of the car so it pulled the wires off?? Hmm

Fifedog, Glad you got to skip the drama. Whistling

Jeffery that is a good movie but I don’t remember the name. Those sixties flicks were funny and stupid too. Smile

Blownout Cyl. Sounds like you are making the best out of a bad thing getting the free wood. Yes
