Duplicate post from previous thread

Time for me to call it a night. Thunderstorm came through about 10 this morning and knocked out the power. It came back on after a few minutes then was knocked out again about twenty minutes later. That time it stayed off for about ten minutes. Power stayed on after that. The cable however was another story. It went out when the power went down the first time and stayed out until about 8:30 tonight. I don't get what the problem with the cable service is. Lately (last several months) whenever the power goes down if only even for a few seconds the danged cable stays out all frikkin day! For me that's no internet and no phone. For my parents it's no TV, no internet, no phone, no emergency service, no medic response, etc. I have a cell phone but it's for EMERGENCY USE only, not for conversation. It only has sixty some odd minutes a month on the free service. My father uses his for work only and my mother has never bothered learning how to use hers. Trying to teach an old dog new tricks comes to mind there. I've shown her time and again how to use it but even just ten minutes later it's still a mystery to her. It's rather like trying to teach a cat basic computer programming though I think I could get farther on it with my parents cat than I have with my father. He's doing good to turn the thing on without crashing the hard drive. So you see the dilemma here. Short of going down there to check on them I have next to no way of contacting them when the cable is down for whatever reason and as I said just a very brief power outage will knock it out for most of the day. I'll be in town paying bills tomorrow and I'll be making a stop by the cable office (my bill is paid automatically so I don't have to go there) to lodge a complaint about the lousy service.

On the layout front, I pulled the Bachmann light board decoder out of the Rivarossi/Athearn U25C and replaced it with a Digitrax DZ125 salvaged from on e of the FP45's I retired yesterday. The FP45's are both tucked away in the closet now. They'll have to be rewired before they're ever run again but I don't see that happening as they're too big for my layout and it's likely the last layout I build from the floor up. They just could negotiate the 18" radius curves and that's the only size curves I have. There's no room for anything larger. Even going from 18" to 22" isn't possible. Certain sections like the extension can't go any bigger than 18" radius. So the biggest loco I can run is the Trainmaster and it has to have the U30EM645 on behind so the first car doesn't get derailed. The geeps and F units are right at home and the SD27J manages quite well. The SW's love tight curves but I rarely run them. Nor do I use the E units anymore. I pulled the decoders out of them some time back for use in some smaller units and the E's now just hold down display tracks on the shelf, those that I haven't parted out for their motors, shafts and wires. One of the F units has an E unit motor in it as it's a virtual drop-in replacement for an Athearn motor. The motor in the U25C also came from an E unit and the flywheels came from an SD40-2.

Well, see y'all tomorrow.

Woo Hoo!  On page one this month.

Catching up on e-mail Tuesday, I discovered that I had won an Ebay auction for a group of flat cars - several weeks back!  Fortunately, the seller was still willing to accept payment.  They should be showing up soon.  I have a special train in mind that will be mostly flat cars, each with an unusual load.

Konnichiwa,

We returned home from the cabin not too long ago.  We had a great time out there and it was most enjoyable.  Unfortunately, the kids were too young to go horseback riding, but we were still able to enjoy some miniature golf, archery, and other outdoor fun.  On Thursday I was able to take my son out for a round of real golf as well.  He did very well for his first time.  The cabin had Wi-Fi so I was able to check in on the Pot; however, posting with the iPad is not too easy for me so I opted to wait until my return.  It was nice to receive my digital version of CTT today.  I really enjoy reading it on the iPad.

Chief – The Japanese are just returning this trash to its rightful owners. Laugh

V8 – I have to be careful about buying train items just because they are a good deal as well.  I sometimes need to stay away from eBay and Choo Choo for a while to ensure I’m not buying something because it’s a good price.  I read an article in the other magazine about collecting or building a layout based upon a certain theme.  I may pursue that route soon to prevent myself from “bargain buying.”

SJ – I’m glad the removal went well.  I hope you heal quickly.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good Morning

Raining and cool ..54F right now going to a high of 64F later on. Lotsa wind though....

Having a break from doctor appointments is a good thing..have to go though to the office and check out how the reports are coming along. And pick up paystub....

Here we are now getting the cottonwoods doing their thing..plus everything else...so the rain will help keep it down somewhat....

Happy B-Day Buck!!!!

Have a good day all!!

Today is a busy day. I have to run a few errands, early, in the rain. Great.  Then, some chores to do. Maybe I can relax after that. Baseball today if it isn't rained out.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Good morning all,

It is rainy and cool in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  As I noted in the last page of the May pot, we won the first game of the season 4-1.  We had all 15 people there and so we had a lot of subs.  I got to play as much as wanted.   My few touches did not result in loss of possession and so I did not hurt the team too much.  Last night I had to hustle to get the yard mowed before the rain moved in.  I was really pushing it, but I got finished as the first drops were falling.  I did very little the rest of the evening.  Indycar is at Detroit this weekend on ABC so I will be able to watch as it happens.  Hopefully AJ's and Sarah's teams can rebound from the disaster at Indy.  I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning. It's 67° and sunny. The high will be 85° and it'll be mostly sunny.

Well it's that time of the month again and I must venture forth in an endeavor to keep the wolves away from the door. In other words, go pay bills. I also need to get my drivers license renewed. Still got a month to go but why wait? Earlier this morning I added the GP35 onto the duo of GP7's as they run at near-identical speeds. The GP9's and U25C are a bit too fast for it and the F unit trio make it look like it's moving in slow motion.

See y'all later.

TGIF CTTFans!

It's 57F and heading quickly into the 80's today.  Started to do some Layout Concepts for my "N Scale" train room from different perspectives as the MOH and I have yet to 100% agree of easement limits.  As for the "HO Scale" project it's still just a dream without walls but the MOH is coming around that the easement limits for it are way to small and "maybe" I might get another or expanded  location in a few years. Well, back to work...

Jon, Great video ! Star

Been a crazy week, last fri and sat at the museum, day and nite sunday working on kitchen cabinets, monday at the museum, tuesday day and nite on cabinets, wednesday the water heater springs a leak so the day is shot getting that taken care of(too tired to do it myself so hired a contractor at the boss's request), thursday was eye doc day which brings us to today which is the better half's doctor & minor surgery day. I get to see my primary care doc and cardiologist on monday. Bang Head Sigh

Being a budget operator is why I have ended up with a fairly diverse roster of roadnames, sometimes you just get tired of waiting for the one item you are looking for and settle for something else. In the end I think it has worked out well for me.

Well time to get ready to head into town for SWMBO's appointments.

Angel for all our friends and family members in need.

Later all.

Hello all

I'm a couple of days behind on the Pot. Life is jumbled here. More on that later.

Jumping in now to ask for Prayers for a Co-worker of Mrs. A mid 40's 4th grade teacher collapsed during recess and was taken to the local hospital and then life flighted to Pittsburgh. That's all I know right now but it doesn't sound good.

Back later with an update on my week

Chief it was fun seeing I could get you too. I was just joking as my smile on the thread about you complaining. I knew you really didn't care.

Well been an interesting day to say the least with me and tmcc. taking a break may look at it later.

I went to remove the tmcc out of the williams trainmaster PRR engine as decieded this am to give it a test run as it never really ran right well it decieded it didn't like the track and jumped the track so I said enough ( it was hardly going and on a straight away) So I was going to put itiin tne GG-1 I just got in well did all the wiring and then all I got was some lights flickering so i tried to reprogram and had nothin. Well talked to boxcar bill some he sugested I try another RC2 board and see if it worked well I took the RC2 board out of the NS and put the one from the other set in and had nothin so put the board back in all was fine except no lights now I tried the other again and a reset and now nothinBang Head Time to take a break from it and try again tomorrow. Guess I can put some coil couplers on one of my GP-9's that needs them or maybe I should just forget touching anything for a while lol.

Well was doing well for a while today then my back started hurting and getting sensitive to the touch again so who knows.

talk to you all later

Pam's garden and Box with new grass.

My garden at back of Box.
Grape vines and peach tree [apple tree gone due to tornado].
Greenhouse with Pam's pumpkins and some under JD windmill to the left.
Pouring rain.  Off to lake house as soon as storm passes.  Had big bad storm up there about 30 minutes ago.

Chief, nice looking photos of the box and gardens.  Any squash back there?

Laz, early congas for the big day.  Whatever happened to Schlitz beer?  Are they still around?  Used to be my favorite in my drinking days.

Work on street in front of our house today because of water leak.  They dug it up, made the repair, covered and repaved all today.

Might have visitors from the Coffee Pot this weekend if things work out.  More later.

Big train show tomorrow at Ontario, Ca. covention center and also parking lot sale at local hobby shop clearing out some inventory at the Train Stop in San Dimas.

Did a little clean up in the train room yesterday and today.  Hope it cools off a little tomorrow for visitors.

Still walking the straight and narrow with my ailments but doing OK today.

later,

Ray
