About 90 today.

Was on vacation last week.  We put about 1800 miles on the mini-van.  Stops to see family in Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana.

Saturday, in Indiana, we stumbled into a city wide garage sale.  I picked up a Thomas & Friends starter set for $150 - brand new, never run.

Does anybody know anything about sound cards for computers?  The PC I've been using to digitize and store my LP collection seems to have puked its built in sound card.  I hope I can salvage things by installing a new sound card..

Prayers for those in need of healing.

Back to work tomorrow to keep up the SS fund.

Well had some progressive chicken noodle soup the first I have eaten anything today. I've felt that bad today wasn't even hungry.

Feeling a little better now. I was so dehydrated that they almost wasn't able to draw blood as it would start but then stop but then one nurse was able to finally ( 4th time being set up for it. ) yes right after that they started an IV on me.

Went to bed about 8 woke up about 11:30 about ready to head back to bed.

Really excited about the GP-9 I won last night. That gives me 4 NYC GP-9 one is cigar band the others are black with gray stripe. Thinking of repainting the dash 8 I have to NYC cigar band as it should be an easy job just remove the glass and the horns and paint it black and add the cigar bands I know NYC never had dash 8 as they were gone befor dash 8's came out but heck its my railroad lol.

Well all have a good week talk to you all later

HOT in Saint Louis, but radar shows some rain storms headed our way later tonight.

BoC - prayers continue.

RT - prayers for you too, bro.  That sucks, hope they can clear this up ASAP!

Didn't do much today.  Went to lunch and then to a pottery painting place with the family for a few hours.  Stopped at The Shack on the way home and got a HD coax video splitter.  I also grabbed a section of drop ceiling track at Home Depot so I can figure out how to connect an area by my stairs, where they is drop down boxing in the ventilation etc.

TARDIS is ready and we had a nice chat with SJ and Joe.  Banilla and Lemon Chiffon are ready!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Time for me to call it a night. I was invited to my parents place today for a treat I hope they don't serve again for a while. Watermelon! Watermelon four days in a row! That gets pretty old mighty fast. On the layout front I did some work on the ex-CSX GP9 (Walthers, Front Range, Athearn, Proto, PPW). I put a Digitrax DH120 in it recently. Well I found out today the decoder has a problem. A very BIG one. While I can set a two digit address and direction I can't set a four digit address or any speed table CV's or lighting functions. It won't reset. Read back on CV8 comes back as the last entry programmed, in this case an eight. It should come back as a 129. CV's 2, 6 and 5 don't work either. The only ones I can set are 1 and 29. Fortunately the loco is an almost perfect match speed wise with the mu'd pair of GP9's to which it's coupled and currently running tail to tail on the end of the loco consist. It can be seen in the photo below partially obscured by some apple trees. Remember I said it could take a two digit address? Nothing higher than twenty. Anything higher than that and the loco just sits there or if it does move it moves very slowly. There's no burns or marks of distress anywhere on the decoder. I wonder if this was the reason Digitrax discontinued it. Oh well, it'll work until I get something better. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' All.

Hope all had an enjoyable Memorial Day.

Glad this weekend is over ! Remember several days ago I posted that the countertop people neglected to show up for templating the new countertops. Well I walk in last friday from the museum and lo & behold  the old countertop is gone and a template for the new created, which also required several hours of additional cleanup. Will be back with the new in about 10 days Zip it! But now the plot thickens, SWMBO and I discuss the existing cabinetry. New is out of the question right now so we decide to investigate refinishing. Saturday was a Kid's Club day at the museum so I get home about 6pm and a nameless individual has decided to start stripping the cabinets. However she thought it could be done with the doors and hardware still attached. Laugh Whistling  So early Sunday morning I convinced her too let me take off one pair of doors & hardware and do the sanding, end result more doors & hardware removed. About half the doors and two thirds of the cabinets done yesterday. Back to the museum today for the Kid's Club Fun Run and I am pooped. Start back on the cabinets tomorrow morning, somewhere along the line I also have a few minor projects for the club layout to squeeze in. Sigh Nothing for the rest of the evening except R&R.

RT, If it is shingles that can be miserable at the least but depending on which nerves are compromised it can be very dangerous. My better half has it and when it is active she is in misery. My sister was extremely lucky with hers, it could have attacked her eyesight but didn't.

Kev, How do you keep such a neat & clean workbench ? Embarrassed

Jack, At the museum today we called for a moment of silence at 3pm and it was well received by all, it did require a bit of explanation to a few of the youngsters. Yes

Angel for all in need.

Having a hard time keeping eyes open, tomorrow all ( refinishing duties permitting ). Smile, Wink & Grin

Happy Memorial Day again, ya'll, from Cape Ann Taxachusetts.  The "double header" is over and I have survived, victorious.

The grill got quite a workout yesterday and again today; and one of my backup propane tanks came in handy.  How can I explain our weather?  Fabulous.....sunny and mid 70s again.  We have been spared from the heat that many of you have been getting.  Family and a few friends showed up around 1:30PM.  The kiddies (only 4 of them today) had two slip-and-slides going, kept them totally entertained.

We ate twice today!!!  Once at 3PM and again at 7!!!!.  My stomach is about to explode.  Today it was chicken, two types of pork, burgers, and dogs for the meats.  Dinner  Burp.  Belch.  Oh my lord!  I think I have to apologize to Sir Jeffrey for teasing HIM about having a cast iron stomach.  I am a pig with a cast iron stomach.  I look about 7 months pregnant right now. Smile, Wink & Grin

Spent about 1.5 hours cleaning up after the guests departed (same as last night).  Maximus helped with the cleanup.....crawled under the deck to "retrieve" an errant hot dog but forgot to give it to me. Whistling  Hosting these events is sure a lot of work!!!!  Tomorrow I am going to transfer the left over cold beer from one cooler back to the garage fridge.....ya can't let dat beer get skunky!!!  Laugh  LAZ would have a heart attack. Wink

Needless to say, heating oil suddenly dropped 30 cents a gallon to $4.00......just three weeks after I had the tank refilled.  That timing error cost me an unnecessary $60. Bang Head

Gotta catch up on my POT reading.  I will say some prayers tonight and let the Powers that be assign them to the right people.

Time to crawl off, find the sofa, and collapse.

Happy Memorial Day everyone.  We had a local boy get killed serving in Afghanistan this Saturday.  He was a LCP in the USMC.  I didn't know him, but he graduated high school in '09.  As for BBQ and sales, etc., we didn't.  I spent the day painting the room for the two kids we are adopting.  We also did a bit of shopping, getting the packing done for when we leave.  Don't have a date yet, but the last time we did this, we were only given a day and a half to get to Beijing China....airfare was steep!

The train room has been used as a way point for moving furniture around while I get the other rooms ready for our expanding family.  This has really limited my ability to run trains!  Hope this changes soon.

God bless,

Dennis

RT,

The R is a very nice transformer.  I have a restored one around here somewhere.  Can't remember where though.

Had a quiet Memorial Day at home today.  Got some pool time in.  I mentioned earlier that I am on the hunt for a clean Flyer 312/312AC K5.  As I was on the main AF page on ebay, I spotted a wrapped and boxed four piece 302 Atlantic.  Don't think I need to explain what happened.Smile, Wink & Grin

Well seems the pills I got Saturday didn't completely agree with me as from about 1 a.m. last night till about 5:30a.m. this morning I was either sitting on the thrown or throwing up into it. I was one sick puppy. So went back to ER again today about noon ( had to get some sleep) and guess what Laz and Kev Doctor #3 ask did you ever have chicken pox's as a child I replied ( know where this is going which I was trying to have faith in the other 2 docs as really didn't want to go there) was not to my knowledge I do remember having German measles but not chicken pox he said well there a good cause but not the only cause but I believe you have shingles so yep you all where right I was thinking also but was trying to shut it down as 2 doctors said no its not shingles, yeah but I was actually with you all on it so now I'm off work till the morning of the 2nd and guess what I'm off the 2nd and the 3rd lol so I don't go back to work now till the 4th of June.

Oh well there goes my O.T. this week and my holiday pay also.

Not much else going on got back home about 5 P.M. so laid down and watch some t.v. till my brother in PA. called. Boy am I sore as I have been saying.

Well on the train front last night I won 2 auctions a 2383 NYC GP-9 with tmcc in it from what I know he didn't list it as tmcc but they where made with tmcc so thats good on my part. He may not of had the equipment to check tmcc as he's a seller that sells a lot of different stuff. I also won a type R transformer which I will use for accessories like the switch motors and lights and all so that will be a good accessory transformer.

Not much else going on here other than just trying to take it easy. Hope all had a better memorial Day that I did

Ohayō,

I’m sure many of you are still enjoying the holiday but it is Tuesday here now.  Our Memorial Day was great.  We ended up receiving some rain but I was able to finish smoking the pork without any problems.  The pork came out great as well.  The annual Memorial Day special on PBS was rained out halfway through and they played last years to finish out the time.  I always enjoy this program and it is very moving.  I have decided to take this week off from work.  I still have many days of leave to use before the end of the fiscal year.  I can carry over only a certain amount of leave so if I don’t use it I lose it.  I was never able to take leave in OK so I accrued a whole bunch.  I have a less operational job here in Japan which means I can be away more often.  I reserved us a cabin at a US military-run recreation area about an hour from base.  We will spend Wednesday and Thursday night there.  It should be fun: the kids will be able to try some archery and horseback riding.  I will spend today doing odds and ends around the house.  The kids have piano lessons in a couple of hours but other than that we have nothing else planned.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s again.  Hmmmm, lots of things I can say about the race yesterday and some are printable.   Traffic was good getting to our parking spot as we got to go the way we wanted.  Walk in was fine.  Sitting in the shade with a nice breeze made the weather tolerable.  They had a separate book for coverage of the 2011 race distinct from the 2012 program, which was a nice touch.  I had a moment when seeing the picture of the living drivers they had gathered together last year from all the prior races.  Very moving.  Another moment came when they drove Wheldon's winning car on the track before the start.  As for the race itself,  it was not a good sign when Clausen spun early.  Although Sarah's other drive was running with the leaders, the pit stop for Clausen's yellow was a disaster as they could not refire the car for waht seemed like forever.  After that the 67 car was not a factor. On the other hand, there was a lot of passing for position and the lead ON THE TRACK, which had not happened for years.  Mike Conway was turning in a H--- of a drive for AJ, going from 29th to 3rd and drawing good comments from the TV commentators when I watched the race on TV later.  On a green flag stop, Conway overcooked it, hit a couple of crew members (they are ok), damaged a front wing and then had the wreck which took out Will Power as well.  After that any main interest in the competition was over, but the actual racing was quite entertaining.  While Team Penske was a non factor, Ganassi was more and more at the front.  Towards I was cheering for any body except Team Red, but Mr. Ashley Judd got his 3rd win.  There was a headline on MSN that actually said "Judd and husband get 3rd Indy win".  How pathetic.  Of course the camera crew was in her face as soon as the flag dropped.  Soapbox rant!   She is a so-so actress whose last TV show got cancelled after less than one season.  I do not see her sorry behind behind the wheel and no other driver spouses ever get interested, not even she who shall not be named.  End of rant.   I would have laughed so hard if they had taken away the win for his last lap crowding of Sato, but I have not seen a definitve replay to make a good determination.  The race set a new record for number of lead changes, and I do not think the weather was as bad as they feared it would be.   Traffic was very smooth leaving the track and they let us go home a way we have not been able to for over 10 years.  Victory Dinner will be on soon and I will watch most of it.  At least Detroit is next week.

Congrats, Doug M on the son's graduation.  Nice pic of the kids there.  RI52, nice pic of the Dakota as well.  I hear you on the rust problem, but as you point out, it is much cheaper than a new one.  Finished the latest CTT.  Bob's review of the MTH German engine is a riot to read.  Did not do much today.  Back to work tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Afternoon folks...

We are now sitting at 90F with heat index at 104 in our backyard...and I'm indoors with the A/C on....

Had an interesting morning with the doctors..he thinks we might be able to get away with one session each of radiation and chemo....we'll see what pans out...the last time I had to undergo this mess it took a session each...so who knows...Whistling

Happy memorial day to all, day for remembering all our deceased veterans and also our friends and relatives who have gone on before us.

Fife, think I'll pass on the grillin'.  We are taking son out for a birthday dinner tonight.

Had nice telecons with four out of six of my siblings yesterday.  Lot to talk about.  Talking to one of my sisters about my illness is like the old TV show called "Can you top this".  She is always trying to one up you.  Have had a good past two days though and feeling pretty good.  Thank the Lord!

V8 Dennis, have a nice get together with your friends.  Sounds like a good thing to do.

D. Baker, are you working on this Holiday weekend?  I imagine you are at a place like Knotts.  Just read in the paper about prices at the theme parks now.  Wow!  I got sticker shock at the Disneyland price.  Up to $87 a day now.  Knotts is not that bad but I remember when admission was free and you only paid for rides and food.  No fences and chickens running around.  I think Disneyland is trying to cut out the local folks from going too much in order to make more room for the out of town tourist who spend more on souvenirs and food according to a survey.  It's all about money.  What isn't?  I wonder what Walt would do if he were still around?

Have a great day all,

Ray

KEV......saw a (Youtube, I think) video on this.

An engineer by trade got tired of the mailbox bashing, so he made a reinforced mailbox made with steel, welded it to an iron post, and sunk the whole thing down deep in cement.  Looked "normal" from the outside.  Then he set up a surveillance camera pointed at the mailbox.  Sure enough, kids drove by late at night, with the front passenger kid swinging a baseball bat.  The baseball bat bounced right back like a rubber ball and hit him square in the face.  Think the camera got the license plate number too.  Smile, Wink & Grin

I have had mine assaulted twice in similar fashion, sad to say.

Starting to regret selling the 314AW already, and I am on the hunt for an equally clean 312/312AC.  I don't care about $$.,  Will pay whatever it takes.

Good morning. It's 80° and mostly. The high will be 92° and partly cloudy.

Hopefully today I can get the layout cleaned up. Intended to do it yesterday but found that I had to be in several places at the same time. I'm also planning on putting a small bulb in a GP9 if I can find a suitable one.

We had 22 here yesterday, are reloading, and will be hosting just 10 today. I think I will need to "educate" some of the younger in our crowd who never had to serve in the military, and for whom Memorial day is just a day off work, BBQ day, and the launch of Summer.

RT,

You could probably get stamps made, but I am not sure who would do it.  A place like Staples might be worth a try.

Finally have a day off.  Listed the Flyer 314AW on ebay last night, and it sold in about 12.5 minutes.Surprise  Need to get it packed.  I'll probably regret it since it was very clean, but I haven't played with it since buying it in Nov. 2010.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

Happy Memorial Day

Remember our Veterans

It is a sunny 74 degrees. Going up to 90 again, with sunshine.

Today is an easy day. I plan to relax and run trains, later. I want to read the latest issue of CTT, which came in the mail, yesterday. And, of course, a nap, later.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Memorial Day.

Chuck
