The sandman calls.

The skies opened up, and we got quite the downpour for about 10 minutes around 11PM.....and we needed it, just not so much that quickly.  The thunder and lightening out over the ocean was close enough for me.  Flooding set in North of us and into New Hampshire where rushing water lifted the asphalt right off some of the roads, accompanied by hail.  And of course, the news covered the usual bunch who think their cars are amphibious. Whistling

V8........we also just saw the clip on the news of the bear you were talking about!!!!!  We had a similar incident today 100 miles South of us on Cape Cod.  The bear took a liking to someone's swimming pool.  I think the wildlife has decided to take back some of their turf. Smile, Wink & Grin

Roy.......I am neither handy nor do I have the tools to undertake a project like your shed. Mine will have to be "store bought."

Prayers tonight Angel for BOC, RaySP, RT, and anyone I have missed.   Hang in there, guys.

Later, gang.  Off to watch the insides of my eyelids.

Vacation day and planned to do some more little jobs around the house, but was a little under the weather this morning and after lunch my son had me running him around town until we stopped for a couple burgers.  I did get to Home Depot and picked up a bunch of that vinyl corner bead.  They only had 10 ft lengths, but I will need some shorter pieces for the "boxes" around the pipes dropping from the ceiling too, so that is fine.  I did not get to search for my train track and then tonight my wife made me remake the bed, just because I washed the linens today while I was off - sheesh!  Oh well, I just love fresh sheets myself and she was surprised to find none on the bed when she headed back there to sleep tonight, so I understand her pique!

Prayers for BoC and RT.

Nice pic, Doug!

Kev, glad your trailer didn't tip!

Laz - tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick....  Smile

Short but nice chats with RT, John and SJ tonight.  I'll do better tomorrow.  Mike - let's go, the TARDIS is prepped and ready.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all!

Got pretty warm/uncomfortable this afternoon. So waited and went out after dinner and started on garden shed floor frame. But - spent over 30 min getting the Dewalt circular saw to true up at 90 degrees. Got the 2x6 outer frame (8 ft x 9 ft) and the center joist in before it got too dark. Making the frame out of treated 2x6's. Was going to make the 3/4 inch plywood floor from treated plywood - but it looked so bad (warped and C/C grade that looked closer to D/D - so bought some really nice looking B/C that I will primer on both sides). I am setting the floor frame onto those pre-cast concrete deck blocks with the cast-in groves for 2x's laid horizontally or a 4x4 post upright. I will sink them into the lawn so the 2x6 frame is about 2-3 inches off the ground. This way I can use the leaf blower to keep it blown out underneath.

Jack - I have been trying to get to this shed for 10 years - man, the missus is pleased Smile, Wink & Grin

Dennis (V8) - saw the bear video on the news this morning.

BoC, Ray, and RT Angel

Jeffrey - those chameleons did a good job finishing up that loco!

Buckeye must have overdone it on his monthly birthday. haven't heard from him in a while.

Time to call it a night.

Regards, Roy

Time for me to call it a night. No watermelon today. Had tacos instead. Put the Alaska GP9 in the paint shop this morning. It came out with a BNish paint job similar to a Tyco GP20 I had many years ago. Dug up an old Bachmann light board decoder and wired it into the Rivarossi/Athearn U25C. It'll suffice until I get something better. See y'all tomorrow.

It's 79 now.

A nice big rain storm rolled by just south of us. Nope not a drop. We got the tree stump below ground level and there it will stay. Some top soil and grass seed will do the rest. Then we took off for the train store. Helped them unload a Lionel shipment and bought my Pere Marquette box car that I had preordered.  We got banilla and I haven't had mine yet so I'll wait for the thingy guys...S.J.

Ohayƍ,

The rain finally stopped sometime during the night.  I woke up at 0700 and took the youngest for a quick three-mile run; of course his participation consists of sitting in the jogging stroller.  The weather is beautiful and should remain that way the rest of today and tomorrow.  We will be on the road for the cabin in a few hours.  I do not know if the cabin has internet access so I may not post again until Friday evening.

Doug M. and Jack – Thanks for your support, it is much appreciated.

Jack – Our daughter already loves to read so she has a leg up on the older son.  We are stressing the comprehension requirement so they just can’t blow through the pages.  We are going to read The Iliad and The Odyssey as a family as well so it’s going to be a busy summer.

V8 – That’s a pretty “wild” story.  I’m glad it ended peacefully.

Kev – That makes total sense.  I’m sorry you had the tire issue.  I hope the rest of the job goes well.

I’ll keep BOC, RT, and the rest of us in my prayers.

Sayonara,

Joe

Good afternoon all,

RT, sorry to hear about your sickness.  That's no fun at all.  Been there done that myself not too long ago at least the part about dumping at both ends.  Prayers for your recovery.

Jack, thankfully it does appear that the doctor has a handle on whatever is ailing me.  I have stopped trying to second guess him and just listen to his advice.  I called his office today about the new medicine he gave which has a side effect of reducing your immunity.  I was concerned about keeping a dentist appointment coming up soon in view of this.  However he said to keep on doing whatever I have been doing so I am.

Celebrated my oldest son's birthday yesterday with dinner out for our entire family.  Saved me from having to cook out.  We had desert including the birthday cake at home following the dinner and grandson gave us a sample of his violin playing.  He plays in the high school orchestra and was in a concert recently.  This is the first time I have heard him play solo lately and was very impressed with the quality of his sound.  He's beginning to sound very smooth and not scratchy like new players. This is about his fourth year of study on the fiddle.

Jack, I like the extra butane tank idea but don't know where I would store it.  Think I have enough for one more cook out but we will see.  I think I am using a lot more gas now since the new grill has more burners than the old one.

87 degrees over here this afternoon.  A/C is running a lot.  Went for another blood test this morning and the nurse must have used a square needle.  Ouch!  Went for nice walk after that and shopping for a few things.  Ran trains until it got too hot so now I'm just laying low in the house.

later,

Ray

Doug M. by chance did you order any of them drawf signals too? I see by the tracking my items have left Kern's, N.J. so I'm guessing by Friday I should see them seeing there coming 1st class.

My engine is to be here Thursday. YesSmile

Haven't had any appetite since Sunday night. yesterday I have eaten 1 can of progressive soup and about 4 captain wafer's type crackers to day about 2 crackers and 1/2 a can of soup so far may eat more in a bit as am a little hungry but not much. hoping my appetite will return shortly still feel it may be fro when I got sick the other night or at least thats what its from and still feeling a little nauseated.

Oh jack my dehydration came from being sick

Did run trains some earlier today. always enjoy that think may have to put the GP-9's up there and let them stretch there legs some especially when I get the other engine in. That will look nice 4 GP-9's

Sitting here listening to some music and relaxing. Hope all having a good day.

DougM,

Congrats to Drew on the HS graduation.  It's been seven years, but I still remember that feeling of accomplishment that came with graduation.  Cedar Point would definitely be a fun summer job.

Kev,

Thanks.  I am not in any hurry though.Wink

Got to try out our new JD mower this morning.  I can see why everyone praises them.  There is no comparison between the JD and the Lawn Fails we had previously in terms of quality.  JD's build quality is great.  The JD starts effortlessly with the rope or key, and what impresses me the most is that the JD doesn't fight the user like the Lawn Fail did.  No more mixing gas and oil either (or cutting the oil amount in half attempting to put the LF out of it's misery)Devil. Thumbs Up

Never thought I'd get so pumped over a mower. LOL

Kev – Have fun hauling the gravel.  But aren’t you supposed to be retired again? Smile, Wink & Grin

Joe,

I am retired but when you have a driveway that is 1/2 mile long and you can haul your own gravel you just got to do it.

Speaking of the fun,

Only two loads of gravel today and we thought we would get 4. But along came Mr. Murphy with his law and as we were coming home with the first load there was a loud

BANG!!! Bang Head Bang Head

So much for 4 loads. We blew a tire on the trailer with a 6 ton load of gravel. !.5 hours and $225.00 later we had a new tire on the trailer and we got the second load. The $225.00 was the cost of the new tire. 10 ply commercial grade = $$$

Will try again on Thursday

Well paid the property taxes  Hmm and we are heading to Kroger’s for some food. Dinner

Prayers for all in need. Angel

green97probe

 Kev,

How bad is the rust?  If the metal is still solid, POR15 is an option to stop the rust from advancing.  I haven't tried it yet, but I've read nothing but good things.  Of course, if you can get rust free panels, that would be best.  A friend of mine has an 01 Dakota Sport in silver, and his is rusting at the wheel wells and bumper.

I am going through the same thing with the 91 Probe, but there are zero 89-92 Probes in the yards around here.  I mostly see a lot of Sunfires, Cavaliers, and 1999+ Grand Ams in the yards here.  Hoping to find my old Sunfire in a yard some day.  Have some "unfinished business".Devil

Jim,

I am going to get my hands on some of it tomorrow. My friend used it on his Jeep CJ frame.

I will let you know what I think after I use it.

Well the shell of the ex-Alaska GP9 has been painted a nice looking green, spruce green I think. The label fell off the can years ago so I'm not sure. It's somewhat darker than the old BN green. I left it outside to dry. A little while ago I went out to get it and saw something rather funny. Two Carolina Anole lizards (also known as American Chameleon) were on top of it and it looked like they were trying to match themselves to the color. They're lucky they didn't get stuck to it as the paint was still somewhat tacky. I wanted to get the masking tape off the cab sides while the paint was still soft and wouldn't crack or peel easily. There's still more painting to be done. The green is just the base coat.

JEFF......there is no such thing as too much watermelon. Wink  I love Summer up here when the variety of locally-grown fruits dominate the scene.  However, there is a prediction this Summer of some sort of insect malady with ground fruit yeild negatively impacted (strawberries, blueberries, and rasberries), something similar to what happened in California a couple of years ago.  I have to read up on it. Greetings From Overcast and Cool Taxachusetts,

Might hit 70 today, and the rains seem to be moving in.  Like SJ, we sure could use it.

HOLY SMOKES!  THE POT IS ON FIRE WITH POSTS!  Glad to hear everyone had a safe and memorable Memorial Day Weekend.  One family that showed up for both days' cookouts here......the Dad and his two children belong to their town marching band that performed Sunday and yesterday at their Memorial Day parades.  Warms my heart to see parents I know taking the time to do things with their children and getting them involved, whether that be in my neck of the woods or with youse guyz on the POT.  Apparently one of the kiddies (mentioned above) wants to play a horn instrument in the marching band, and I happen to have one left behind my daughter, carefully stored here somewhere amongst my imposing collection of stuff I don't want or need.  It is in a black case, so how hard could that be to spot?  Whistling

Blownout...... Angel continue for an equally successful outcome with your treatments this time around  Daunting, it is.  But folks care about you, including us.  Hang in there.

RT........getting dehydrated is a lot more prevalent than people think.  It was a complication you didn't need right now, but at least the staff discovered it while mapping out the strategy for the shingles. I have to drink a whole lot of water every time I mow the lawn....before, during, and after.  Hang in there, not the way you may have wanted these days off, but you have our Angel to help you through this.

RaySP......glad the "plumber" has a read on your tummy issues.  They are no fun, but it sounds like the medical powers that be have a handle on it. Angel

Brutus.......sounds like you are teaching your son well with his parcipitation in the basement project.Thumbs Up  He will remember this one for decades to come, even if it is to tell amusing and exxagerated stories about you and your home improvement snafus projects. Smile, Wink & Grin

DougM......at the risk of sounding redundant, congratulations on Drew's graduation and his roadmap for the future.Thumbs Up  With two of your kiddies working at Cedar Point for the Summer, you and your better half are almost empty nesters. Whistling  The trainroom!!!!  Now that is what I call a home entertainment system, ideal for children and the grownups.  Looks from the pictures like the kiddies were having way too much fun. Thumbs Up

JoeyD.......man, did that reading contest you set up with your children for the Summer strike home!!!  My Dad did the same thing with me with the Tom Swift books one Summer.  Sounds like with the amount of leave you have banked, your Summer will be fun-filled.  And as others have pointed out, we thank you for your service as we do all of our Veterans on the POT. Thumbs Up  You guys, each of you, rock!!!!Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Chief......this WreckTangle project seems fraught with obstacles.  Up, over, around, or through is how you seem to play things and always hit paydirt.  Thumbs Up.

SJ........my Dad and I never had any luck with those chemicals designed to remove tree stumps.  There were a couple products that we tried, albeit 50 years ago.  Dutch Elm wiped out a zillion trees in Chicago back in the early 1960s, and we lost 3 beauties that had to be 50 years old.  After two years of unsuccessful attempts, my Dad gave up on the chemical approach and the burning approach and hired a company to come in and grind them out.  Only about 9-12 inches below ground level, left the rest, covered the sunken remaining stump with plastic sheeting to keep suckers from sprouting, added dirt, and grass seed.  Done!!!

ROY........you hit one of the things on my list of near future "home improvements."  I too need a garden shed to store all of the lawn, and garden stuff, snowblower, yard and deck furniture, grandkids' bicycles and sleds, and the like.  Plus my advancing years make it inevitable that a riding mower is in my future.  Too much grass to mow and not enough lawn mower for the job right now, if you know what I mean.  Leaving cars out during the Winter months makes no sense up here, creates work.  No sense facing the frequent cleaning snow and ice off the cars or playing musical car(s) while trying to do the snowblowing and shovelling.  Glad to hear you are still getting rain, but I don't envy your temps and humidity. Smile, Wink & Grin

Mrs. LAZ must be burning up the keyboard, scheduling LAZ' next 5 years, her "short-term" plan for him. Laugh  We are counting the hours now until your retirement. Thumbs Up

Bang Head

8N........wow!!!!!!!  What a road trip, 1,800 miles!!!  How can you beat a minivan for such a trip?  No matter how much junk keepsakes the wifey accummulates along the way, you have room for it.Whistling  What kind of fuel mileage did you get with your minivan?

LAZ......you must have read my post about the 8 hours I spent "defoliating" my yard and gardens in prep for the Memorial Day weekend's family gatherings.  Been tempted to try Agent Orange. Whistling

My sister is coming out from Chicago for a one week visit, arrives tomorrow. Bang Head if you know what I mean.  I love her more from afar. WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

Later, gang.

Good morning. It's 71° and partly cloudy. The high will be 92° and it'll be mostly sunny.

Vandals struck in the wee hours! Sometime during the early morning some teenage hooligans armed with cans of silver paint painted over the road name on the Alaska GP9. The Sundown police chief has already caught one of the offenders. His own son! When asked why he participated in this act of destruction he simply said the engine belongs to the L&A and the railroad should have painted it over long ago. Now they have no choice. Ezra Johnson, the teens grandfather and owner of several businesses in the town says that the locomotive will be scheduled to go into the Sundown paint shop this week.

Aloha from a sunny and warm Chicago. Still happy Drew graduated from H.S. Later this week, he's off to his summer work at Cedar Point in OH with his sister. Prayers for BoC and RT! Thank you vets and JoeD for serving! Despite my bride's wish to keep guests out of the basement, I loved showing off the layout yesterday.  Her finger never left the whistle button...

Morning all!

It was a warm one here yesterday and got really humid to make it even worse. We got a nice surprise last night - storms formed out of nowhere and we got over 1/2 inch of rain. 94 today, humid, and maybe some T-Storms this afternoon.

Made it to Lowes yesterday afternoon and picked up materials to start a garden shed so we have a place for the lawnmower, etc. The new mower does not fold up easily so cannot put it in the garage where the old one went. Plus this will allow me to get all the yard, gardening, paint, spare lumber, and fuel cans out of the garage making some room so I can better lay out my tools, etc. Unlike KEV - my workbench is NOT so Neat.

Hope to work on the shed this evening.

Angel for BoC and RT

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Konbanwa,

Today went as planned and nothing exciting happened. The morning was beautiful but it rained all afternoon and it is still coming down.  I took the kids to the library so they could pick out some new books.  We started a reading contest at home today between the two older kids.  We don’t pay for schoolwork or high grades, but we figured a summer reading contest will be worth it.  I won an old Skyline tin lithograph train platform today on eBay.  I’m thinking it will look pretty neat with some of the Lego structures on the UTB RR.

I enjoyed the chat with Brutus and SJ earlier today but unfortunately it was too short.  I hope to catch the Tardis again soon.

Kev – Have fun hauling the gravel.  But aren’t you supposed to be retired again? Smile, Wink & Grin

Joe

It's 76 going into the 80s. We heard thunder last night but still no rain here. We really could use some. My train friend is coming over this morning to help me bust up the tree stump and get it below ground level. The stuff I bought didn't work, the stump won't burn. Then we will be heading off to the train store..S.J.

Good morning all,

Rain and heat relief in SE Indiana.  Watched the Victory Dinner except for the first two positions.  Got wife's android device connected to the router yesterday so she has internet hookup now.  Still rather dubious about it, but as long as she likes it, we are fine.  Not much else going on.  TBIL and I can drive.  No barrel rolls tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a beautiful 72 degrees. Nice breeze. Going up to 82 today with a slight chance of showers, later this afternoon.

Today is a busy day. I have a few chores to do and a couple of errands to run. Then, lunch and a nap.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Chuck

Morning all.  Cloudy but suppose to burn off.  Possible T'storms this afternoon.  Seems storm headed by NC coast tomorrow and we should get some rain from it.

Prayers Blown C and RT.

Have a good one.

Hi GUYZ,

70 here and getting to hot humid 88.  Pulled weeds and trimmed bushes yesterday for 5 hrs.  Felt great in the muggy conditions.

CHIEF, I'll help you with the bench work but don't know if you'll have enough beer to pay me?

Stya frosty,
