Darren...........we need your February and Winter 2001-2012 snowfall in inches (or feet), metrics!!!.

The "Official" totals come from Denver either at DIA or the old Stapleton Airport area where some measures are still kept.  The South Metro area were I live tends to get a bit more Rain/Snow as we are closer into the mountains then Denver is but Downtown sits in a hole so they tend to be cooler.  Keep in mind, February is normally cool and dry

So, here is the "Official" report for February 2012:

...FEBRUARY 2012...FINISHED AS 2ND SNOWIEST FEBRUARY IN DENVER...

FEBRUARY 2012 WAS AN EVENTFUL MONTH WITH BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES
AND NEAR RECORD SNOWFALL. THE MONTH STARTED OUT DRY AND MILD WITH
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ON THE FIRST. THIS MILD AND DRY WEATHER
ABRUPTLY ENDED AS A MAJOR WINTER STORM MOVED INTO NORTHEASTERN
COLORADO. SNOW HEAVY AT TIMES...BEGAN ON THE EVENING OF FEBRUARY 2ND
AND CONTINUED THROUGH THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 4TH. AS A
RESULT...RECORD SNOWFALL OCCURRED ACROSS MUCH OF THE FRONT RANGE OF
COLORADO INCLUDING DENVER. TWO DENVER SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE BROKEN
DURING THIS STORM. FIRST, THE 12.5 INCHES OF SNOW THAT FELL AT
DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON FEBRUARY 3RD BROKE THE CALENDAR DAY
RECORD FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. SECONDLY, THE STORM TOTAL OF 15.9
INCHES ALSO BROKE THE RECORD FOR HEAVIEST STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL IN
THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY, SURPASSING THE OLD RECORD OF 14.1 INCHES SET
BACK IN 1912. THIS WAS THE ONLY SIGNIFICANT SNOW STORM FOR THE MONTH
AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. HOWEVER...SOME WEAKER STORM SYSTEMS
BROUGHT ADDITIONAL SNOW ON FEBRUARY 7TH...11TH...20TH AND 23RD. THE
FINAL TALLY FOR THE MONTH WAS 20.2 INCHES WHICH RANKED FEBRUARY 2012
AS THE SECOND SNOWIEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD. THE SNOWIEST FEBRUARY
OCCURRED ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO...FEBRUARY 1912...WHEN 22.1 INCHES OF
SNOW FELL

FEBRUARY WAS ALSO A COLD MONTH WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 28.4
DEGREES WHICH IS 4.1 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. 22 DAYS OF THE MONTH HAD
BELOW NORMAL VALUES. HOWEVER...THERE WERE NO BITTERLY COLD OUTBREAKS
DURING THE MONTH. AS A RESULT...FEBRUARY 2012 FAILED TO MAKE IT ONTO
THE LIST OF TOP TEN COLDEST FEBRUARIES. TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM A
HIGH OF 65 DEGREES ON THE 25TH...TO A LOW OF 3 DEGREES ON THE
MORNING OF THE 11TH. JANUARY 2012 FINISHED WITH 0.90 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION WHICH WAS 0.58 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.32 INCHES.

THERE WERE NO THUNDERSTORMS OBSERVED AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
DURING THE MONTH. THERE WERE 8 DAYS IN WHICH DENSE FOG WITH A
VISIBILITY AT OR BELOW 1/4 MILE WERE RECORDED. THE PEAK WIND OF 59
MPH FROM A SOUTHERLY DIRECTION OCCURRED ON THE 27TH.

Hello all,

Frosty 21 This AM. Sunny mid 40's for shelling corn after work.

Not much got done over the weekend, Sinus infection had me immobilized. Still hurts if I move fast or bend over. Had over 800 for the Seafood Buffet Friday night.

Fife,  it came in the mail on Friday. Big Smile  A great big thank you to you and 88. Sent the application for April yesterday. If all works out I'll see you there.

I'll stop back later.

Prayers for those in need

Seasonally we get about 4.5 ft with March being the crazy month so one wonders (given February) what March has in store for us. Storm

Chief, didn't mean to be "little" Charlotte.  I only landed there once and couldn't remember how big it was.  Heck, for that matter even LAX only has two parellel East West Runways. Prevailing wind blows right off the ocean 99% of the time.  I think they had one North South Runway but don't know if its still there.  It was very short and rarely used.

Re guns, reminded me of Johnny Cash song "Don't take your guns to town son"  "Leave your guns at home Bill" Whistling

BTW, did you ever get over the pneumonia?

Later, Ray

Ray, Charlotte is no LAX but it is not a little airport.

This site sure is slow compared to the others I visit.

Buckeye, check out the article by Bob Johnson in Trains.  Negative to the NRA and us gun owners wanting to secure our weapons on AMTRAC.  Not good.

Real windy.

Chief, looks like my placement of your quotation came out bass ackwards.  No one ever accused me of being a computer guru.  A few years ago, I couldn't spell computer operator.  Now I are one.

Jack, re walking, not much to look at around here accept one blonde lady who likes to walk all over town in minimum coverage during warm weather.  She is a great walker and runs circles around me.  When I see her completely covered, then I know it's really cold.  Same goes for a gas station attendent I used to see who wore shorts 24/7 and 365 days per year.  Re dogs, wouldn't mind borrowing Maximus to intimidate all the little yappers in yards you pass that bark at anything that moves.  I can see a warning bark, but they keep on barking after you are long gone.  On the other hand, never got barked at by a cat.  They just say, " you can pet me all you want but I won't give you anything".  I have one I call "old yeller" that has been cruising through my yard lately.  Probably leaving me a present somewhere.

Ray

Well I decided to go ahead and put the manual starter safety in the van. Why? Because if I have the engine off but the ignition on while working on it and accidentally press the button it'll start even if it's in gear. If I have the safety switch turned off that won't happen. If I forget to turn the safety off and that happens it's due to my own stupidity. Turning the safety off after the engine starts will become second nature quickly enough. Besides, why put off till tomorrow what can be done today.

Jack........ re dogs, wouldn't mind borrowing Maximus to intimidate all the little yappers in yards you pass that bark at anything that moves.  I can see a warning bark, but they keep on barking after you are long gone.  On the other hand, never got barked at by a cat.  They just say, " you can pet me all you want but I won't give you anything".  I have one I call "old yeller" that has been cruising through my yard lately.  Probably leaving me a present somewhere.

later,

Ray

Ray........Maximus has been trained to ignore dogs, up close and from afar, even if they are in a total frenzy. Smaller dogs are somewhat prone to this type of behavior.  Because of their relatively diminuitive size, they understandably see themselves as living in a world of menacing giants.  That explains their incessant barking and their territorial approach to things.  Self preservation, if you will.

Many folks show up at training with their smaller dogs, trying to mitigate the (over the top)  barking and the territorialism you describe, and they have great success, one after another.  Some of the dogs are even biters.....of other dogs, of other people outside the household, even biters of their owners and family members!!!.

With Maximus, for example, it was a must for us he learned early on that the decisions are not his to make, none of them.  Dogs decompress and become more accepting of their surroundings, more relaxed about their territory, less skittish, and more deferential to their owner/handler as soon as they acquire a comfort and a trust factor in their owner.

They have to learn that they are not in harms way as long as the owner is in charge of things.  The dog learns to trust your ability to handle matters, to make the right decisions for yourself and them, and will keep them safe under any and all circumstances.

When someone shows up in training with a smaller dog that has shredded them, their family members, other dogs, and visitors to their home, it is not cute and it is not a laughing matter to the owner.  So the rest of us have to curb our amusement with their dilemma..  Many of us have walked a mile in their shoes but with dogs 5-10 times the size and capable of a lot of carnage quickly.  And we know what the training will do for them if they listen, do the work, and stick with it.

One guy with whom we now train had initially shown up after his smaller dog (German Pinscher) had bitten him repeatedly, requiring stitches on more than three of the occasions.  His dog treated everything and everyone warm blooded the same way.  This guy was the second owner (I wonder why?).......the dog was a serial biter and wanted to take charge of everything.  Brutal.

The training worked wonders because the guy refused to quit on his dog.  He had enough self confidence to listen and to learn, and he had enough ego in him to not want a dog to outsmart him. Smile, Wink & Grin

He got about 85% behavioral improvement inside of 4 months with the biting and the aggression.  Now the dog can be trained indoors and outdoors off-leash, in class and wherever he takes the dog.  His pup also has a solid recall.  In addition, the guy has overcome his dog's very high prey drive, where the pup originally wanted to chase and run down anything outdoors that moved.  rabbits, squirrels, kids, dogs, cyclists, birds, runners.

I know it is aggravating for all of us to take a nice walk and then have to contend with people's out of control dogs.  At times it can become downright frightening when the dogs are not fenced or leashed.  Blame the owner, not the dog.  Sure, all dogs bark.  But there is an off switch, and that would be the owner.

Good afternoon.  Watching Steamtown on Trains And Locomotives.  I hope to take in a visit to Steamtown sometime in the future.  It has been a beautiful day here with teps around 70.  Had a big case this morning that went very well.  I got to use some ideas that I have been working on and everything went so well, I think we will be incorporating them on all future cases.

Wife was at the house as we had one of the air handlers and a zone system for the upstairs replaced.  They worked till early afternoon and now I get to cook some fish for dinner.

Well, hope to check in later to see how bad the Chief gets hit.

God bless,

Dennis

Buckeye -- that was an interesting link, thanks.  Neil A. seems a little "quirky" IMO but if that's his style, so be it.  Sharyl and I got to meet John Glenn 12 years ago and he signed his book for us, what a gentleman in every respect.

Kev -- it's 72 here right now and I also worked outside today.  Hope it's like this when the grand kids are here starting Sunday afternoon for 3 nights, one of our ideas is to take them to the Omaha Zoo Monday or Tuesday, it's a fantastic zoo -- I think it's one of the top 5 or 10 in the country.

Good Tuesday Evening....

Fifer - Since YOU asked.....

I sent an e-mail to my lovely HR girl.  I expressed the interest in getting my company e-mail account back and an inquiry in any full time positions.  Welp, when I get my 90 day review, looks like I'm going FULL TIME IN APRIL!!!!  My reputation from Group 43 in FLA and the work I'm doing now (with great reviews from my boss and the Area Manager),  They just need to do their due diligence for the 90 day probation and review.  Only thing that remains to be seen is more money and when I get all my bennies...I still retain almost 7 years of service with the little e....which also means I get my vacation time back as well.   SO ... GOOD NEWS FOR ME!

And on the bad side:  We lost a long time fire dept. member to cancer.  He was in the FD 49 years....services tomorrow night with full dress uniforms.

Princess is having her issues and she's making noise about going back to FLA to college there in a 3 girls 1 guy living arraignment.  I told her that was not acceptable and that I will cut her off from my financial aid if she goes.....and we'll see what happens next.

Picked up a 2025 shell for $5 and I'll be trying to strip it and repaint/renumber it.  Then I'll figure out what to put under it.  I'm thinking LED lights and maybe some TMCC or Soundboard.

BTW - there is a Greenburg show in Delaware and I'm wondering if any of youse guys would like to meet up...just askin....

Was in the 20's this AM, up to 45 and tomorrow in the 60's.  Harley time tomorrow?

Angel for our ailing members and their "significant others"

Jack - as far as NASCAR, I'd love to see it where it was production 2 doors and production engines.  This spec car is crap....make it fair?  Why?  Take your best body/engine combo and take your shot....just like the old days.  Why were the MoPars Dominate?  Cuz they were!! And Ford was right there...the GM boys cried foul and that's why we have spec cars  and not NASCAR.

I was gonna unload on you MikeC......Princess Sparkle ?  She car drive the wheels off anything as far as I'm concerned.  I'm good with her in NASCAR....we need more good looking broads in racing anyway, as far as I'm concerned...Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh...Have you seen Leah Pruett-LeDuc in Funny Car?

That's all for now from Exit 8......

Evenin' fellas

Rich - that is awesome news

Didn't have time to go back and read all the posts since my self imposed exile...

Been mega busy at work, yes busier than before my exile. It is nearing insanity level. Good news is tomorrow is my Friday as I'm off Thurs and Fri to install the hardwood floor in the FR. Can't wait to get this project done. We decided to change the color from a sage green to a buttercup yellow... really a drastic change! I've been doing all the work myself since TheQ sprained her ankle a few weeks ago and has been hobbling around. I have been impressed with her ability to still help out as much as possible around the house and she is starting to get some mobility back.

Christina celebrated her 7 month b-day last Thursday by deciding she can hold a bottle by herself and feed herself. She also likes eating those puffy rice treats now, as well as popcorn. She is growing like a weed and is just a joy to be around.

Got my TCA membership renewed and got my York pass in the mail... I do need to email TCA to see where my new membership card is though...

What a morning to check in!  Congratulations Rich....glad it is all working out.  Sorry to hear fo your friend.  Cancer is a horrible foe.  At 49 years of service, you know he loved what he did.  Regarding the daughter, perhaps a good heart to heart, you been there and know it  would be a mistake for her to go down that road.  Brent, welcome back sir!  Glad to see you here.  I know Christina is surrounded by love everywhere she goes with her mom and dad at her beck and call.

Getting ready to bring the kids to school.  No hearts this day, but plenty of smaller cases to keep us busy.  I have some paperwork to catch up on and will head in later.  May take the bride out for breakfast.

Well, time to head out.  Hope that each of you has a blessed day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a sunny 52 degrees. Going up to 64 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Chores to do and a project to work  on.  Daughter and family coming down on Saturday for a visit. Looking forward to seeing the two kids. I think I'll run the trains for them.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.
