Plane has arrived. Lady just made face as she looked back at departure time(backed up 20 minutes :-() . Might be one of those landing here, rrefueled, cleaned, restocked and then continue on to Ft L. Flights been leaving Charolette early. One flight closed early and plane backed out 10 minutes early. Man came running up with 8 minutes to spare on posted departure time. Told him sorry and go to customer service to rebook. Not good. It has happened to me before.

Good morning. It's 50° and cloudy. The high is due to be 60° and it'll be partly cloudy this afternoon. There's a 30% chance of rain this morning.

Nothing special going on today. I'll be off to town soon to do the second half of the grocery shopping.

Mornin' All.

Tracked down family members last nite in Ky/Va/Oh and all are well, nerves are a little freyed but well. Did scold my sister a bit, she's had one of those wether alert radios for a few years but it's still in the unopened box. Bang Head

Jon, At the rate things are going out here you will probably be able to find some really good rates if youz guys decide to spend a couple weeks+ . The SD cruiseship business is all but dead, the latest tourist robberies in Mexico is about the next to last nail in the coffin of cruising to the "Mexican Riviera". The final nail is the federal law that severly restricts West Coast Ports of Call, believe it is the Jones Act(?). Not to mention what our so-called legislators in SacreDemento are doing to our business community. Ick!

The Munchkin starts Little League BB today, no games today just all the teams getting together for photos, practices and hopefully lay-down-the-law to all the parents (you guys know the type). Grandma & Grampa will be on the road next weekend though to cheer him on.

Anybody seen the Statue of Liberty that RMT is putting out? It looks fairly nice in the photos, but remember I'm looking thru cataracts. Confused

Tony the Tiger came by for breakfast, now gotta rustle up the morning meds. Sigh

Later All.

Went to town earlier and got the rest of the groceries for the month and went by Autozone to get a starter button for the van. The ignition switch in the column is starting to give me some new fits when turned to the start position. So I'm going to do the same thing that was done on my old '68 Dodge and run a fused wire from the battery to the starter button (to be installed this weekend I hope) then a wire from the button to the starter relay. The start function of the ignition switch in the column will be rendered useless and hopefully won't cause a problem. That's enough about that.

Had a bunch of stuff to do this morning..namely clear driveway of neighbour's tree that fell on our'n front lawn this morning from all the winds we had today..then we had a piece of someone's front steel awning go fly past our house and slam into a car that was parked on the side of the road...it is just nuts out here..winds of 60mph and more...yikes!!!

Well did figure out today I can add ditch lights to any of my tmcc engines by adding a err mini commander EX has to be the EX version. So little by little I have 4 engines I may add it to.

Oh well back to the drawing board have to figure out the building of the light holders.

Ohayō,

We had a great time at the park yesterday afternoon.  Only the two older kids and I went; the wife took the youngest to the grocery store to knock out the shopping for the week.  The park was about a 10-minute drive from our house and it was huge.  This is the link for the park: http://www.showakinenpark.go.jp/english/  It is the English version so it does not contain everything.  We spent a little over three hours at the park and I was pretty tired when we left.  We rode bikes all around the park and also did some pedal boating.  It was more like I did pedal boating and the kids acted as if they were royalty.  The park has a bunch of smaller playgrounds in it as well as different Japanese gardens.  I believe we will spend much family time there when the weather warms up.  It doesn’t cost too much to get into the park and I’m sure they have family passes we can buy.  After the park expedition, the entire family went to Chili’s on base for dinner and then we played Monopoly; the Princess won.

We have church today and not much else planned.  We didn’t get all the chores completed yesterday so we will have to finish those before I can have a nap.

On our first day in Tokyo this past week we visited the National Museum of Nature and Science.  The museum comprised a couple of buildings and many floors.  It had some great exhibits as well as a very fun kids’ area where the kids could participate in some neat exhibits.  The first photo we took was of the steam locomotive parked outside of the museum.  I don’t know anything about it since all the information about it was only written in Japanese and I didn’t have the English audio guide until we got inside.  There was also a rocket launcher and huge whale replica outside and a large whale skeleton on the inside.  On the inside we saw many awesome items to include this WWII Japanese fighter.  The museum’s entrance dome reminded us of the dome in Texas’s capital building.  From the top of the museum we had a nice view of Tokyo Tower (next day’s tour) and the train station outside the museum.  I shot a quick Flip Video of a train but I haven’t downloaded that yet.  The last photos I attached are of a temple/shrine located in the park outside the museum.  In front of the temple is a place where people can attach prayers.  This was a great museum to visit and we took too many photos to post here.

This was a lengthy post for me.  I’ll try to post photos on the Tokyo Tower tomorrow.

V8 - I guess they just found out that smoking is not the healthiest habit.  It seems like a poor use of tax dollars to me; same thing for the warnings on the packs.  I don’t smoke and never have but that was because my parents smoked for some time (mom still does) and they warned me about it.  I don’t think it matters how big the warnings are as some people will still smoke and that’s their choice to make, not the government’s.

dougdagrump - The new RMT Statue of Liberty looks pretty neat to me.  The new rotating beacon and floodlights look pretty sharp as well, but RMT didn’t make those in a line that interests me.

Joe

Good afternoon all,

Joe, interesting pictures from Japan.  Is that plane a zero fighter?  Thanks for the photos.

Been trying to catch up on the pot.  Went for early walk today.  Right after lunch got call to pick up my grandson at high school returning from Sacramento trip.  His Dad was stuck getting an oil change somewhere.

Chief, flying is not fun anymore I guess.  Re the story about the guy left behind due to plane's early departure, that would not happen on the railroad.  The rule book said that a passenger train could not leave a station before it's scheduled departure time.  That was a throw back to the old days when train orders were used for operating trains.  Peoples lives depended on knowing what time that train would leave the station so opposing trains could get in the clear for it.  Otherwise you would have a corn field meet.  Nowadays trains are controlled in several ways including CTC and radio dispatching but I think the rule still applies about leaving times.

Got invite to go out with friends for dinner tonight.  Looking forward to that.

V8 Dennis,  I agree that the anti smoking ads are disgusting.  I am a non smoker now but when I did, none of those commercials ever stopped me.  I love it now though every time they raise the price on cigarettes.  Hope the politicians choke on it.  None of the so called benefits from higher taxes on tobacco products have helped anybody to my knowledge.  It's just another burden on the people who can afford it the least.  Those who can afford it, could care less.

Got some photos this morning from my sister in Florida showing her new digs.  Looks like a nice place for a lot less $.

Good evening all,

Ray

Good evening guys.  Still working on the migraine, it is better right now, but I can feel the pressure like it is coming back.  Had a nice dinner with the parents of our son's friend.  Great folks.  He is a country preacher, she is a teacher who taught our son in first grade.  She is also the one who studied our son's learning style and adapted her teaching efforts.  Since then, he has not had any grade lower than a "A".

Joe, great shots!  Looks like a great place.  I liked the steam engine, but the whole place reminds me of the museum of science photos in Chicago.

I have been getting some inspiration from Norm Charbonneau's layout.  I saw his work in one of the Lionel Nation videos and also in a CTT issue.  He has a website/blog where he talks about how he makes such fine detailed scenery.  Not sure my abilities are up to that level, but it certainly makes for a high water mark to attain.

Well, have a blessed night.  We have had tornado and storm activity all around us, and we are currently under a warning.

Dennis

Aloha. What a long day. Scraped a few inches of frozen white stuff from the driveway. The snowplow deposited frozen snowballs almost 3 feet around. A bit hard to move. I guess this is what they call 'heart-attack-snow.' But it'll be gone by the end of next week when it's supposed to get into the 50s. Drove to Winnetka to visit my newest niece, who at 6 weeks is doing better than ever. My brother-in-law lives right down the street from the house where they filmed 'Home Alone.'  Bride is leaving for her last retreat of a two year cycle tomorrow. So I'll be with the boys for the next few days.

DougDG
, that RMT Statue of Liberty looks nifty but too small.
RT, glad you dodged that tornado. What a terrible toll from the storms!
Dennis, praying for your migrane relief.
Chief, glad you made it.
Joe, I love that museum! The whale is a copy of one from the Museum of Natural History in NYC. Japan has a wonderful history of steam engines. I'll look up that engine.

Good evening all,

Much cooler in SE Indiana.  Did do some light work today.  Jeffrey, don't you love it when a five minute job actually takes five minutes?   I see where Princess Sparkle Pony really did well today....not.   Headline on one web article said Danica had rough day.  Read the article and does it mention who actually won the race???  LOL!!!   Enough about her.   I will give up any mention of her for the rest of Lent.   Did run some Alaska trains today.  Also got latest Train magazine today.  Interesting cover art work on the General chase of 1862.  Still not 100%.  H--- to get old.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all

Long day, but a good day. First day at the Gadsden Pacific was good. Finally got to see the layouts inside as well. Will keep volunteering w/ the live steam group and probably eventually join the museum. Sorry, no pictures, forgot the cameraDunce

RT - glad to hear you came thru ok.

Chief - safe travels

Joe - nice pics. Japanese steam engines are beautiful.

Speaking of Japanese locomotives, I got the Lionel #95 rheostat today. It looks to be exactly what the Sakai set needs to keep it from running off the track.

The 1664 does not like the 1122 switches. Tried it out on them before I tried to run it under power. Will need to pull the switches before I can test run it on the big oval at home. I'm having some problems w/ power on the inner loop anyway, so this will help me diagnose it.

Time to find a pillow.

Good morning!  Headache is history.  Happy Birthday Tyler! Getting ready for church this morning.  I am on camera for the two regular services, and also for a special prayer service.  Hope my back holds up.  We have a afternoon birthday party to attend at up-Chuck-E-Cheese.  Perhaps I will leave the wife there while I sneak around the corner to Books-A-Million and check out the train magazines.

Well, got some ideas to try on scenery for the layout.  I will not be able to do any work with that today, but it will be a good project for the week ahead.

Take care and may God Bless y'all in the week ahead.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Overcast Taxachusetts,

50s and 60s Wednesday thru Friday!!!!  The daffodils are up 6 inches.  Winter has been defeated!!!

The grandkids came over yesterday for their weekly visit with Grammy and Grampy.  The two year old is the most curious being on two legs.........if it isn't nailed or glued down, a permanent fixture, is up higher than 4.5 feet, or is not under lock and key, she picks it up and brings it over to me like "Here, are you looking for this?"  After the grandkids leave, it takes a good 15 minutes to put everything back in its place.  What on earth is so fascinating about our stuff? Bang Head

JoeyD......thanks for the pictures.  I didn't see any train stores in any of them!  Whistling

I really hope we are all able to dodge the wrath of the weather.  It has been a tough week for so many this week.

The dog has ordered breakfast.  Gotta run.  Prayers for those in need.  Angel

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.
