Good morning all,

Chief, glad you made it back.  Sounds like an exciting flight with 25 MPH crosswind landing.  Those little airports can't afford a runway in two directions so have to do all landings in same direction.  I landed once in a Piper Super Cruiser in a crosswind.  Took the pilot about three tries to get her down and we nearly brushed some trees on the edge of the runway.  I was only a kid then and would fly with anybody.  We were lucky.

Buckeye, too bad I dropped my Trains subscription.  Would like to see the Great locomotive chase story.  Maybe pick up a copy at the hobby shop. I have a copy of the Disney movie. I saw where some of Andrews raiders are buried in Chattanooga.  There is a monument there with a model of the engine on it.  My brother in law is buried in the same cemetery.  It;s a national cemetery now and he was a veteran.

V8 Dennis, I will never see high speed rail either.  Will be about 95 by then if I live that long.  I would be happy if they could just finish the next 11 miles of the Gold Line.  Suppose to be done by 2015.

Pretty warm yesterday.  I ran some trains in the garage mid day and was sweating when I came out of there.  My MTH A class tried to shed it's valve gear while running but I caught it in time and tighened up everything, then oiled around to get rid of sqeaks.  Need more storage tracks on the layout or start putting some stuff back in boxes.  Hate to do that.

Missed train meet yesterday due to other commitments but don't think I missed much judgeing from the pictures of the meet.

Jack, thanks for explaining the Chief's trip.

Prayers for those in harms way with the tornados.

later,  Ray

Now, let me see if I can translate this properly.

jeffrey-wimberly

Good morning. It's 45° and sunny. The high will be 75°.

I wish it was still dark and not so bright and sunshiny.

After several near sleepless nights I got about five hours last night or should I say this morning. No layout work planned for today.

I stayed out too late partying and chasing women! Did not get home until the wee hours of the morning! I am too tired to even think about playing with trains!

Here is a pic of the party location!

A very nice looking place. How about inviting me next time?

Ray, Charlotte is no LAX but it is not a little airport.

This site sure is slow compared to the others I visit.

Buckeye, check out the article by Bob Johnson in Trains.  Negative to the NRA and us gun owners wanting to secure our weapons on AMTRAC.  Not good.

Real windy.

I see Mr Parks is feeling his oats today. He's lucky I have a somewhat sarcastic sense of humor.

That was a good job Buckeye did translating the Chief's flight home.

Well installed the coil couplers on the dash 8 not a piece of cake like doing other engines I have done but still after doing the first one the second was a quick deal ( learned the tricks after the first one lol) Lets see first one ( front) seem it took about 45 minutes to do the second one ( the rear) about 10 minutes lol.

Think I have some drainage may be allergy as my right side of face/throat is sore from ear to about half way down the throat and can feel a little something with the sinus on that side so sucking on some halls cough drops giving me some relief at least.

Not much else going on today. Guess need to get something to eat hmmm chicken noodle soup sounds good.Smile

Nothing to settle.  Johnson was crying about the cost of installing safes in trains to hold checked weapons.  Then made negative comments about NRA's influance with Congress.

I'm posting early before this site slows down, it seems to be getting worse. 32 with sun all day but warmer tomorrow. I ran some trains this afternoon, all went well. From the chat last night it seems it was a meatloaf weekend at several homes. Not much supper tonight so maybe some banilla later..S.J.

The ZW came today. Looks in pretty good shape. The mod to it is interesting and well done. Will post some photos regarding it later. Curious as to what Bob might think about it.

Just waiting for some N&W passenger cars to arrive. Thats Norfolk and Western, not Norfolk and some other direction...Mischief

Will package up the Amtrak set tomorrow. Plus photos of the KW and NW-2 for the 'bay.

Also will soon be getting a "pet". You guys will love it.

Off to a neighborhood meeting regarding a street widening.

Good evening everyone.  Got the kids after school, took son to get allergy shot and then home.  Bride decided we were going to Sam's to shop.  Picked up some T-bones that we grilled when we got back home.  Wind is picking up and temps heading to low 30s.  Hope the trees we planted do well with this cold snap coming.  We went to the back of the property to look and they are budding.  I see one that needs more soil placed.  At this rate, I am not sure when to fertilize.  Want the trees to grow plenty of fruit, but if we do it too early and it stayed cold for a period, we may lose some.

Been reading another British model railroad magazine.  Actually, this one is based in Scotland.  Some great modeling, but mostly "OO" gauge.  Still, some good tips on scenery.

Well, I have a big case in the morning, do I had better get some sleep.

God Bless,

Dennis

Sunny and in the low 60's today.

Laz - I still need to lube the Burro crane.  I saw the instructions about the set screw.  The cab seems to be hanging on something and hampering rotation, so I'll have to remove it again.  I'll get the upper armeture bearing then. This one is the 1988 version and looks like it has only been test run.

Bright sun with a slight breeze already 44 and going to get over 60 today.

Jon, I still have the snowplow on my tractor because you know how March can be, but I figured whatever we get will melt off so If I leave the Gator sit a day or to it won’t matter. I will pull the snowplow off next month. So you better do like DougM said and leave it on.

Dennis, good luck on the big case today.

Blownout good luck at the Dr. today. Sounds like you had fun last night but too bad about the two decoders.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Crystal Clear Taxachusetts,

We have LAZ weather here this morning.  Was 13 overnight with only mid 30s later today.  Mid 50s tomorrow,  And mid 60s Thursday.  DougDG boasted a 91 the other day, but we are catching up to the CA. boys.... except we won't be seeing the need for A/C and hitting the 90s until the latter part of June or early July.  Furnace is getting the workout.

Since last Friday.....

Jeff........are you still "Sleepless in Sundown?" Stick out tongue Hope your back is coming around and your foot is hanging in there. Angel.

David.........Jeff's folks want to know what time you are going over there later today to mow their lawn.  Both riders are down now, but they have sharpened the scissors for you.  Whistling

Blownout.......I am curious.  Is it always this windy up your way this much?  Did you administer a breathalyzer after the train wreck last night? DrinksBeerLaugh

RT........you dodged a bullet with that tornado last week, just four miles from your homestead. Thumbs UpBeerSmile, Wink & Grin

It seems like we have been havong quite the numbers fighting the crud and other assorted ailments.  Recently there has been Brutus, MikeC, Dennis, Chief/wifey, and myself amongst others with crud.  Then Jeffrey, KEV, Buckeye, and Fife playing injured.  Might be easier to list the guys who are healthy!!!  As for me, I get one bout annually and this one is it, though a tad milder than normal.  Pass the Kleenex, please.  Get well you guys. Thumbs Up

JoeyD........can't believe I missed that picture you posted of those Lionel boxes stacked up at a store while you were on vacation with the family.  I should have known if there was an orange box you would find it. Smile, Wink & Grin  You and your family will have quite the memories to share and stories to tell in a few!!! Thumbs Up

SP Ray.........we are still waiting for you to post pictures of some of the more interesting "specimens" you encounter while you are out on one of your walks.  I would loan you Maximus to take with you if I lived close by, he's a chick magnet.  Keeps jealous boyfriends at bay as well. Whistling

Dennis.......my wife gets migraines, but far less frequently than she used to for some unknown reason.  Seems they are stress-induced.  If she nips them at the outset with an 8 oz. glass of warm 7-Up with a tablespoon of salt, that stops the progression dead in its tracks provided she jumps on it right away at the onset.  Got that idea from her Doc years ago.  It works for her; otherwise, the migraines become totally debillitating and hang on for days.  After the 7-Up, she uses Aleve until the milder symptoms fade, sometimes takes a day or two.  The other migraine products, OTC or prescription, don't do much for her.  Thumbs Up on your son's first grade teacher who planted the seed that learning can be fun.  When kids "get it" early on they seem to take a whole different, more positive approach and embrace the school work instead of fighting the parents, trying to just get by doing the minimum.

DougM.......re the piles of ice and compacted snow the plows leave at the end of your driveway, or the really heavy stuff, there should be massive snowblower sales going on about now.  News reports say the retailers ordered up for the Winter, but the lower snowfalls seriously blunted sales.  Inventories are generally high.  And the retailers are really motivated to move them.  I bought one some years back, powerful enough, with the intent I would never have to contend with the end-of-the-driveway stuff again with just a shovel, not to mention the deeper snowfalls.  It is comforting to know that despite the forecast I won't have a problem and won't die clearing the white stuff, no matter how deep or how heavy.  Electric start.  Right power Ariens man-tool for the job.  Good stuff. Thumbs Up  BTW........Brent, this post is NOT for you. Whistling

SJ........why do the winds keep you awake at night?  I find them a soothing "Glad I'm in here and not out there!"  Same goes for rain.

DJ.......Happy B-Day belatedly to now 9 Tyler.  The brainwashing indoctrination "education" continues. Wink

Chief........I didn't read how your crud recovery went, or that of your better half.  Hope both of you are back to full strength. Angel  Since you made the FLA trip and she is back to working here nd there, may I  assume recovery is complete?  Thumbs Up  better run out ans spend her paycheck, investing it in the new layout!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Bob........re your forgetting your camera, my wife never lets that happen.  It's like attached to me.Bang Head

Rich.........so why won't NASCAR allow hemis (Dodge)?  Would probably make too much sense and counter-act their continued quest to dumb down stock car racing to a driver soap opera rather than motorsport and car brand differentiation.  The 1970 426ci hemi Superbirds (Plymouth and Dodge) come to mind, banned after one season because of total, sudden dominance.

I read somewhere on one of the Nascar blogs that the current "demographic" is all about the drivers first with a waning interest in the cars themselves.  I don't believe it for one second.  Most of the posters' complaints on the blog were focused on the vanilla flavor that dominates NASCAR.

I also recall the buzz and excitement when (1960s) Mercury entered the fray with their large block Cyclones. Yup......instead of 3 brands (Ford, Chevy, Toyota) as we have now (and you can't tell one car from another), we had an array of manufacturers and their technology out there.  Also had Pontiac out there, and competitive, in addition to the Mercurys, Fords, Chevys, Plymouths, Dodges.  Don't forget Andy Granatelli's turbines that put a scare into all of the other manufacturers/teams.

MikeC........hope you are feeling better. Angel  DP missing from the lineup Sunday in Phoenix must have pleased you.  Now that you have given up mentioning her for Lent, we will have to be satisfied with you just posting pictures of her. Whistling

LAZ........don't you live at a higher elevation?  Thought you would have had more snow this Winter.

V8.........none of the politicians on the right coast are beating the drum for true high speed rail.  Just looking to spend on track improvements to speed things up to 100MPH.  Unfortunately, when the vendor for the cement ties was selected (read payolla, graft, corruption), the low cost bidder became the high priced bidder in the end.  Why?  The use of substandard concrete (where was the government oversight guys we pay?) in the ties that began disintegrating at about the ten year mark.  No one held accountable for that choice as is always the case in government when they are spending my federal tax dollars.  Vendor too small to cover the repairs. SoapBox

I'm not sure I understand your comment that there is not enough consumer demand for a high speed rail alternative between LA and SF.  A fly/rent; 380 miles and a 6 hour drive; or you take the train/rent.  Folks on the right coast have figured out that flying/renting car for the Boston/New York City Metro route (240 miles/4.5 hour drive) costs an arm and a leg and is actually slower "door to door" flying versus than driving!!!!  Folks are looking for cost effective, time-saving, alternatives.  The correct rail might do it at the right speed.

Darren...........we need your February and Winter 2001-2012 snowfall in inches (or feet), metrics!!!.

Chuck da Vinci...........we didn't know you were an artist with your train room walls. Thumbs Up  Get too good at that stuff and the wife will have you painting walls and ceilings. Laugh.  Re your wife's carpet shampooing later today, go hide in the train room.  We have to steam ours, short nap Berber, frays if you use brushes on it.  Had to switch to Berber because the dogs wear a "trail" in a plusher pile carpeting. The Berber wears like iron by comparison for us. Thumbs Up

JimmyT......as you know, my 69 Corvette came with the factory side exhausts.  Replaced with Hooker full race side exhausts.  Then went back to stock rear exits ones still using the headers.  Trust me when I say that eventually the beautiful song of the V8 will eventually wear on you when it is constant and you have to drive greater highway distances and you get older.  When I went back to rears, I discovered the pleasures of being able to hear the music and the ball games.  That video clip with sound you provided?  Nice.  That was a woman driving up and down the street under throttle. Big Smile

8N.........holy Magnolias!!!!!!!!!!!  It must be Spring!!!! Thumbs Up  Holy furniture moving!!!!!  You must be married!!!!  Whistling

Later, gang!!!!

Jack

Laz: Is that Rogers Corners near Ann Arbor? Sorry, Sundown (elev 254 ft) doesn't have many silos. I can count the number of them I've seen on two hands. There's some dairy farms and corn fields here but no big farms.

Jeff........are you still "Sleepless in Sundown?" Stick out tongue Hope your back is coming around and your foot is hanging in there. Angel.

I got a good nights sleep last night a my back feels great. Sometimes I wish I could unscrew the foot and leave it somewhere.

Both riders are down now, but they have sharpened the scissors for you.  Whistling

Say what!? I just got those things running good! It's gonna take a long time for that boy to cut five plus acres with those scissors.Laugh

Good morning. It's 56° and partly cloudy. The high today will be 78°.

I need to do some cleanup on the layout today. Other than that I don't plan on doing much. At the moment I have a shortage of projects to work on. Maybe I need to break something so I'll have something to fix. One thing I need to do is wire in a safety switch on the vans starter button so it can't be accidentally triggered while the engine is running. It can also serve as a deterrent for unauthorized use. There are people around here that'll steal virtually anything that rolls. But that'll probably be a project for another day.

Good Morning CTTFans!

Well, it should get up near 70F today and then 35F with snow on Wednesday; good old Colorado weather!  Have not had a chance to read all the posts here in the diner over the last few days but I hope all that had family in harms way of the nasty storms are all OK.
