Well I went and uploaded a short video (one minute and small change) of my Bachmann GP7's making a run around the layout today. They're fussy and will derail if the track work doesn't meet a certain minimum. They didn't derail, so I did an OK job on the track.

Good afternoon everyone.  For some reason, I didn't sleep too well.  Dog was next to me and I could hear each breath.  Usually, he sleeps at the foot of the bed.  I was on camera1 this morning and could barely stay awake.  Then, we all went up to the sports park and had a big church picnic.  Came home for a much needed nap.

Joe, thank you, I will look for it.  I have to leave for Denver in the morning.  We are looking at buying some new heart lung machines and I have to go spec them out.  I will design a system, then they will build it and send to us for a trial period.  If we like it, we will buy a few more.  Will have to do the same thing with a company in Ann Arbor, Michigan to give it a trial run.

Joe, and anyone else with kids around 8-15 year olds, there is a game on the computer called Minecraft.  It is a neat thing in that the kids have to mine for materials and build things like homes, etc.  then they have to farm and hunt for food.  Really brings out the creativity.  It does have a multiplayer mode that allows them to play with others, but if you don't know them or trust them, you can play single player and not deal with them.

Chief, nice outfit.  Maybe you need to wear that at York!  Nah, better not, isles are too small and it would be hard to hold all your purchases.

Fife, glad the belt still fits!  Hope the boat is ship shape and ready to sail.  I thought of you yesterday as there is an article in Reader's Digest on West (by God) Virginia.

Well, I hear my name from the kitchen, hope each of you has a blessed week.

Dennis.

Evening all have done some ebay buying lately as couldn't turn down a Lionel 1998 GP-20 with tmcc, railsound, and crew talk for less than $100. including shipping. First thought was to get another shell for it but then I would still have to do something with the frame as colors would be wrong. Well went out and bought a NYC GP-9 so now I can switch the electronics and that will give me another GP-9 NYC with a different number and I can resell the G-20 with stating that it is no longer TMCC that it is now Conventional. that will give me something to do for a day lol when I get them all in.

Not a lot happening other than the above today was an so so day at work nothing exciting.

Rich Missed the part about the princess earlier glad she is on the mends and glad to hear you father is out and about.

BC glad you where there when your friend needed your expertise you can be proud of what you did. yes anyone with the training could of but you where the one there.

Hope all had a good weekend mine starts tomorrow afternoon

NCSU beat Georgetown!!YesCool

Sad news.  OSU lost. Crying  Was hoping that both would advance to the finals so NCSU could save the South by beating OSU. Wink  NCSU is really not suppose to be there.  Maybe, just maybe they will do like they did when they beat UCLA years ago.  They were the "dark horse" of the playoffs.

The day went well, granny went to a HS hockey banquet with #2 grandson, then we had company for awhile and I goofed off in between. Not sure about Banilla tonight but I'll stay up for the chat...S.J.

Thanks for the b-day wishes.

Laz - nothing with flanged wheels, but I did receive a couple gist certificates to the LTS... and yes I already know what I want... and yes it would be another engine, and yes it would be blue & yellow, and yes it would be the new Lionel C&O S2. Smile

Got the neighbor's leaves vacuumed today (the ones that he blew into the woods behind his house that then blew into my yard during a wind storm a month or so ago) and got a few flowers planted. I did get down to the trainroom and was able to finish the bridge abutements for the twin steel arch bridges, finished placing the abutements for the truss and thru-girder bridges, and started the retaining wall for the coaling tower. Next up will be compiling my list of scenery items that I will need to pickup at York, then trim back a section of the layout that I forgot about, then start laying plaster cloth on a few areas to see how much I'll need to get at York.

Dennis - Congrats on the DTC!!! Thumbs Up We are holding off till Christina turns 1 before we start the next adoption.

Fife - need to get together as I have a repaint project that I need to discuss with you.

Brent,

            Happy B-Day

Got the 264 Forklift working tonight.  It worked when I got it, but the truck wouldn't travel all the way to the car.  Found that a preivous owner screwed up adjusting the buffer spring, and setting the proper tension fixed that problem.  The platform that the truck rides on was rust pitted and smashed in one spot, but I had a clean undamaged part in a junk box.  Had to make some adjustments within the truck itself to control the height and tilt of the forks, and shattered one of the screw standoffs in the process.Oops - Sign  The bad part is that the truck is $125 by itself.

Time for me to call it a night. Wiped down the track this morning and I've been running trains ever since, I have the pair of Atlas FP7's running as mainline while I do some switching with the pair of Bachmann GP7's. While the Atlas locos have Bachmann lightboard decoders the two Bachmann Geeps have Digitrax DZ125's and have a better degree of control. See y'all tomorrow.

SPECIAL ALERT for Submmbob,

Better get your thermals out and pre-heat them, got some really cold weather headed your way.  If you think the rain and wind we just passed on is uncomfortable, ai'n't seen nutin yet.  Rained a bit this morning, then got cold, then colder, then windy, more cold, more wind,  Then the weather got bad.  The wind was so bad the turbines on top of the roof was lifting the attic atleast 3 to 4 inches, the pool cover (which layes flat on the water), was rolled up into a log.  Those birds that did try to fly were flying in reverse.

Spent the day working on printers, taking care of stuff just been putting off.  Glad to see the Phat Kat is still around and doing good.

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, and stay healthy.

Going to go and see if I can find an electric blanket.

Later

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Bad news.  Lucas again having problems with grades.  After doing so well last semester, he got some bad news on mid-terms.  He will check with profs to see if there was a mistake.  If not, he will see what can be done to bring them up.   I thought I was done with this drama.  I must be really evil as there is no rest for the wicked.  "Once Upon a Time" ws good, but may be turning into another "Lost".  "Desperate Housewives" was really depressing last night.  I had a bran muffin on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Konbanwa,

It was sunny today but also a little chilly and very windy.  I had the usual Monday at work; nothing exciting happened.  After work I transported an outdoor fence from a neighbor’s backyard to mine.  The neighbor is moving so I bought the fence from him so I could have it installed in my backyard.  It is only three years and it should easily last me three years.  I paid much less for this one than a brand new one.  I would like to install it myself but I don’t have the time right now and the guy who can install it will do it at a very great price so I am more than happy to pay for it.  I need to do some reading for school and then get some sleep.

AF Ray – As far as I can tell the Japanese have no interest in the NCAA tournament but on base it is as popular as in the States.  I am able to catch the prime time games while I am in the office in the morning.  I was pulling for Lehigh this morning since they beat my Blue Devils.  I hope you get the promotion.

Kev – Yes, I accidentally forgot to change the font.  I type my posts in Word first to prevent losing them should the forum act up while I’m typing.

Jeffrey – Thanks for posting the video.  It was great to see your layout in operation.  I was nervous for a second when the train was navigating those turnouts – it could have ended with a pile up if one of those turnouts was not flipped.

Dennis – Have a safe trip to Denver.  I will try to check out Minecraft tomorrow.

Sayonara,

Joe

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Another foggy start in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Weird how we are swimming in mild weather, while the west coasties are shivering...I feel bad...no, no I don't. Cool

dwiemer - Thank you, Sir.

88 - What do you have in mind?  Oh, btw, Tom is thinning out his roster, and has a mother/calf set of Chessie switchers (MTH/2.0) on the block.

Chief - I feel for the parents...that's about it.

Aloha Paradise. Supposed to be 80s until later this week. Not bad for March in Chicago. Thank you global warming.  After trying to cut the floor off this beautifully-made barn nee engine-house for Ivor the Engine, and discovering the nails holding it together hidden by paint, I used the hand saw, Dremel and large flat-head screwdriver to enlarge the door itself. (It only took me an hour longer than it might've if I knew what I was doing...) Big Smile  I'll have to shim the track up into it but that'll be something else fun to figure out. Love our hobby.

Prayers for the Princess, Rich's dad, Dennis' travel, west coast weather and the basketball prospects of Ohio's four teams left in the tourney.

Full day at work today until 6.

Had late dinner with Princess last night, went to MickeyD's then bed.

Jeffrey – Thanks for posting the video.  It was great to see your layout in operation.  I was nervous for a second when the train was navigating those turnouts – it could have ended with a pile up if one of those turnouts was not flipped.

Thanks Joe. I had the same thought when it came to the turnout that leads to the short dead-end the track cleaning tank car sits on. Beyond that bumper is the great abyss above the floor. The turnouts are all Bachmann and I've heard all the bad things people say about them. I had some I couldn't save but I tweaked the others so they all work reliably time after time. Some of them are almost fifteen years old.

Good morning. It's 72° and cloudy. The high will be 82° and there's a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Wind is at SSE at 9 mph gusting to 30. Lake wind advisory is in effect.

Running trains again this morning. I have the two 70's era Roco/Atlas GP40's pulling the mainline freight. Their old motors are rumbling nicely. I discovered some internal damage on one them, presumably from a fall from the display rack last year when a hanger on said rack broke and spilled some of the locos on my bed before the racks fall was stopped by the window frame. One of the gear towers was cracked. A little epoxy fixed that right up. The FP7's and GP7's worked hard yesterday and are getting a rest. Had a problem with the newer FP7 yesterday. The motor (mostly plastic) was running quite hot. So I lubed the bearings and put a couple of drops of CRC 2-26 on the commutator, turned the motor by hand a few times then put power to it and ran it in. It runs better now but still runs a bit warm. Warm is all right, hot is not. As regards the Bachmann GP7's, I have nothing bad to say about them. They run quiet and smooth, no stalling, no gear noise and they pull like nobody's business (I run my two as an mu'd set). Same report on their GP9's. David brought his two over yesterday for programming and to have Kadee's installed. They just seem to float down the rails. I'd say Bachmann has made up well for all the trashy junk they sold in the 80's and 90's.

Holy smokes.........I blink and I am 5 pages behind on posts!!!!  Bang Head  So instead of my usual way-too-long POT recap, I would like to take a different approach today.

I am so very proud of my wife.  I have mentioned on this forum previously that she has sacrificed so much over the decades for the kids and our family.  She never took any real time for herself.  That is where all this stuff with the dog training and Maximus comes in.  She has finally embraced both a hobby (the dog) and a goal (obedience competition).  That is why I have taken a back seat, supporting role in all of this.  I really want to see her enjoy this, to do her best, to be successful at it, and to feel confident that I have her back.

We had 26 students/dogs show up for a competition class in the beautiful weather.  Among the entire throng of students and their dogs, she and Maximus were selected by the trainers and the competition coaches to perform all of the competition exercise demos for the rest of the students.......even though she was by far not the most experienced handler, had only one competition title under her belt, and was "driving" the ever-handful and willful, Maximus.  She put on quite the show, and Maximus bent to the forces of a greater will, hers.  He is like driving a Ferrari in that he is a lot of dog.

God has blessed me with her.  But I'm not so sure she can say the same about me. Whistling

Later, gang!!!!!!!

Taken today off, don't want to spread this cold.

Translated - I do not want to waste this beautiful day cooped up inside with a bunch of teenagers.

---

Fife - I want to repaint the PRR E7 breakdown unit I got at York in Oct to B&O livery (gray/blue/gold) to match the B&O E7s. Didn't know your availability or if you would be willing to take on the project? I know I can't do it because I simply do not have the patience nor equipment for the under taking.
