Good afternoon all,

I'm not a happy camper right now.  While sitting in a two and a half hour meeting at church this morning, I got a stabbing pain in my neck when I try to turn my head to the right.  It feels like a pinched nerve probably.  I can tolerate it as long as I don't try to turn my head.  Hope this corrects itself.  If not, will have to have something done about it.  Just taking Tylenol for now.  The speaker was standing behind where I was sitting so I had to turn my head to see him for long periods.  Got a feeling that this is what brought it on.

V8, sorry to hear about your dental problems.  Hope you get that straightened out soon.

Jeffrey, nice to see more layout videos of your pike.  I'll bet with a little work you could make that AC unit on the wall look like a cracking plant at an oil refinery.  We had one of those near the LA harbor.  Don't know how they work but water is always running over the sides of them probably for cooling during the refining process.  They probably have to heat the crude oil to get gasoline out of it.  We used to have a train that was dedicated to bringing crude oil to the refinery every day from about 100 miles away near Bakersfield, California.

Still puzzled over why my Proto 2 MTH E6 will not start up in conventional mode.

Got to sign off now and give my neck a rest.

Later,

Ray

Kev, your DIL sounds like my youngest's Hubby.  The SIL who wants her to have nothing to do with her folks.  He also thinks he is the smartest person on the earth.  One problem, he's rich.

I found out the older I got, the wiser my Dad was.  Frankie has found that out too.

GRASS MOWED.  Clover was 12" or more in spots in the back.

Storms all around.  We had a "boult" of thunder but no rain.  Pollen is horrible.  Can not see over one block if wind is blowing.  Mostly pine.

Dinner.  Hot dogs I will make.  Mustard, chilli [NO beans Yanks] and onions. Dinner

Later

PS: RT, congrats.  LAZ just went over 7K.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI (It is another beautiful sunny day in south eastern Indiana for the new people and a refresher for the vets) with temps in the 80s.  Mowed the yard for the first time.  Tried to beat the neighbor next door for once, but she was out there when I was.  Work was busy.  No news from Lucas yet.  I had  a bran muffin for breakfast.  TBIL (the beacon is lit) and I can drive.  I hope everyone has  a good day.

Keep on training,

The weather here is fantastic, if you're a duck. The rain is averaging half an inch per hour and it looks like it's going to keep up most of the night. More thunderstorms coming in so I'm shutting down. See y'all tomorrow.

RT, congratulations on 6000 post.  I can't hold a candle to you, the Chief and Jeffrey.  You guys must have started posting right after WWII.  Anyway, I usually only post once a day and some time not at all.  Today is different, however.

My pinched nerve or whatever it is (pain in the neck) is at least tolerable this afternoon but I took a pain pill.  Will try to go back to just Tylenol tonight if I can.

Dougda, I think I will do a factory reset when I get the engine back.  Barry over on OGR suggested the same thing as you did.  I hope that works.  I think you lose the engine ID on DCS when you do that though and have to reenter it as a new engine in DCS.  I did do a feature reset once but that did not bring the lights back either.

Chief, hot dogs with chile (no beans) sounds good.  Isn't that like a Coney Island hot dog?  I like beans but it's a little much on a hot dog.

That reminds me, tested out my new gas bar-b-que last week to make sure it works so now I'm ready to cook on it when the spirit moves me.  Bought the thing last fall and still haven't used it yet.  Now with daylight saving time back it stays light long enough to feel like being outside to cook.

My old gas bar-b-que had lava rocks in it so the drippings just burned up in the fire.  These new ones have drip pans and burner protectors etc. which sounds like a lot more clean up involved.  Maybe I can get some tips from some of you backyard chefs on clean up.

I think we might try and go out to eat tonight if I can drive.  If I can't I'll let my son do it.  To pooped to cook another big dinner tonight.  My wife does cook but we sort of take turns. Neither one of us likes it much anymore but you've got to eat.

later,

Ray

Ray,

The reset is easy to do and yes it does delete the engine from the DCS sytem & handheld. I do it everytime, at end of day, when I use PS2 locos on the club layout. I've even had to do that during the running session when the ditch lights went goofy.

TARDIS is about ready, we had a nice pre-flight meeting of the minds of course.  I've been goofing off with a little computer game called minecraft and you can make railroads in it with switches and stuff - lots of good fun Thumbs Up

Congrats RT and Laz on your major accomplishment, I hope you enjoy that major award gift basket from Chief - I think Buckeye said he got an NS engine in his basket?

Man, the weather has been great the past few days, but we are headed for a lot of rain and some cooler temps again.  Char is coming up on a big birthday and so is my Mom.  We might go see that Star Trek display at the Science Center - it is a little pricey, but looks really cool.

Hit it Mike, we need some Famous Banilla!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hello everyone.  Still in Colorado, in Golden which has the Colorado State Railroad Museum.  Also, this is the home of Coors.  Today, we passed the plant and I saw what looked like a red SW1 with white Coors written in the same font of everything else Coors.  The interior of the cab was light green.  I would think it would be real easy for someone to model.

Of course I am at the mercy of the corporate types as they are doing the driving.  We got going early this morning and worked straight through till late this evening.  I think we have a very good working model for me to bring back to the hospital.  Will be a long day of travels in the morning, so time for bed.

God bless,

Dennis

Konnichiwa,

I decided to take a quick break from paperwork to type a quick post.  It is very nice outside once again but it is even windier than yesterday.  The day is progressing nicely and quitting time is in a few hours.  I had a great lunch today at a Japanese ramen place.  That’s it for now; I need to get back to the paperwork.

Blownout – I’m glad your friend is doing better.

RT – Congratulations on hitting 6,000.

SP Ray – My infrared grill grates clean up pretty well with a little mild dish washing detergent.  The key is to not let them get dirty.  The key to that is to make sure you season any cooking surface prior to use.  Before you use your new grill, give the grates a quick rinse with mild detergent.  After they are dry, give them a nice coating of vegetable oil (not olive oil as its smoke temperature is too low).  Then when you are getting ready to cook and the grates have heated up, use some tongs and a rag (or paper towels) soaked in vegetable oil and go over the grates again.  It may smoke for a few seconds and when the smoke stops you can throw your food onto the grates.  This will help prevent foods from sticking to the grates and also ensure a better sear.  Furthermore, it will make cleaning up afterwards very easy.  Simply wipe down or use a brush to clean the grates, and when they are cool enough lightly coat them with some more cooking oil.  It may seem like a lot of work but it is worth it.

Joe

Evening,

Mike C.,  Know what your going through, just when you think its under control, find out differently.   I had some concerns and issues I needed to discuss, ended up not doing it till 2am when he got home.  His school days run 14 to 16 hrs/day!  School gave the students keys to labs and they work "late".  Just didn't seem right.  I think we did made progress,  Time will tell.  It can be difficult trying to keep him on the right track without being domineering. Hang in there.

Looks like we are finally getting a change in the weather.  Was up to 70 today, nights still around mid 40's, but at least no wind.  Newphew getting married this Sat., so hopefully no rain.  Originally, forecasted but seems it is moving to Sunday.  So will see.

Had a positive experience with BPS, bought a air of boots for $99, found them on their website 2 days later for $49.  They refunded the difference with no issue!  Was very happy. Smile, Wink & Grin

Think I'm going to have to rebuild a pw ZW, think the rollers may need replacing. Sad

Hope eveyone has a great day, and stay healthy!

Sayonara,

RaySP.......  listen to what Joe advises because these are the very things I arrived at through a lot of trial and error.  Just because JoeyD is a Yankees fan doesn't mean he is misguided about everything.  Laugh

My grill does not have the infrared feature that Joe's does.  I use my gas grill year round (Winter included) because I detest loathe HATE the mess that cooking in the oven (especially broiling) makes.  That includes the lingering smoke smell in the house.  It seems I spend twice the time cleaning up afterwards as I do cooking.  As a result, indoors I have a tendency to skip eating the things I like, just to avoid the cleanup mess.  Outdoor cooking on the grill is far easier and more enjoyable for me.

The grill doesn't have to look as clean as the day you bought it.  I have the cast iron grates (heavy) with some non stick coating that clean up easier for me than the stainless ones,  Expensive but worth it (got at Home Depot) because they hold up for the life of the grill.  I wound up buying them ($54 for two) for my Weber Genesis B after the cheaper metal ones supplied with the grill started warping from overusing and abusing the "clean" feature. Bang Head

The only other things I would add are this:  when I yank the food off the grill, I hand that stuff off to the wife who takes it indoors,  I put on a pair of leather welders gloves that cover 6 inches above the wrists and while the grates are still pretty hot (gas off) I quickly wire brush the grates.......a quick one minute or so once over.  Then I go over the grates again after dinner to get what I missed.  Then I recoat the grates as Joe advises.  Probably once a month or six weeks, if I am feeling particularly ambitious, I will use the "clean" feature on the grill to burn off any residue, wire brush, and recoat the grates.

What time do you want us to show up for dinner?  We'll bring the Beer.   Dinner

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a sunny and clear 60 degrees. Going up to 83 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have a few errands to run and the usual chores to do. I should be able to take a nap after lunch.

Turned on the house A/C  yesterday. Cooled off quickly. I sure hope it doesn't snow in April.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

ChiefEagles

Jeffrey, WC says you are swiming in LA.  6+ inches and coming down.

No argument here. I looked outside a couple of times and could see water at least an inch deep. And I'm on a hill!

ChiefEagles

Sleep tight.

Believe me, I did. I like the sound of rain on a tin roof.

Good morning. It's 53° and the sky is black with clouds. The high will be 60°. There's a 90% chance of rain. A flash flood watch is in effect.

My plans for today. Stay inside. Stay dry. Work on the layout. Sounds good to me. We had some bad storms come through yesterday and last night. Three short power outages that I know of. At least one more while I was asleep. I haven't been outside to look around but I imagine it's a mess out there. I could hear the rain and wind but also the sound of debris hitting the roof and sides of my trailer, most of it making thumping sounds as it hit but once in a while there'd be a load bang as something bigger hit.

Well I can hear another thunderstorm approaching. Weather radar shows it moving NNW and it looks like another nasty one. Be back in when I can. Otherwise I'll be staying under cover.

Aloha. Another 80 degree day here in Chicago. I've never turned the a/c on this early. I think this is the last one though before we go back to 'normal'.  SJ, congrats on your Marx sets - I'm jealous of your great price. (I love Marx tinplate).  Dennis, MTH makes that Coors switcher.  MillerCoors is just down the block from me. Joe and Jack, thanks for the grill wisdom. I'm going to save these. Prayers for the neck and dentistry issues.

57 & sunny

Going up to 82, another record breaker day. We get one more then back to 60s. At the moment I have no plans for today so I'll just see how it goes. A grill only looks new until you cook something on it. Or burn whichever the case might be. I keep the cooking grate clean with a Pam type spray and at the end of the season I use oven cleaner and then hose it down..S.J.
