Starting now. Mow. June through September. MOW, MOW, MOW [unless dry] twice a week. Don't do any of that stuff. Throw out fertilizer now through May before every shower.
Going to have dinner with Banks.
Grass carp stocked in pond. High $$ herbicide for an invasive weed my buddy introduced in the pond and was told it would not spread.

Banks Jack, seems like you spend a lot of time and money growing grass only to spend more time and money to cut it. Both should be spent on trains. Prayers for those in need

Banks.........this is one of those "pick your poison" things. With grandchildren, dogs, and our place being party central because the daughter and SIL's place is way too small, having a healthy lawn devoid of firethisle weeds, dirt, and mud becomes a necessity instead of an expensive luxury.
You are married and know what I am about to say. Consider the alternatives........mud and dirt tracked into the house several times a day, followed by a wife who will react in the following ways.
Support the economy by buying carpet cleaning machines or having the carpet cleaners on speed dial and on a retainer. Throw rug cleaning expenses. Vacuuming so much the v-cleaner power head wears out every 6 months.. Washing the kitchen floor so much the Hoover FloorMate likewise wears out every six months. Accelerated refinishing frequency of hardwood floors in kitchen. Throw dog in bathtub a couple of times a week, followed by more vacuuming of dog hair, laundering of dog towels, cleaning of bathrooms, and the incessant wear and tear on the washer/dryer. Pay vet expenses to iron out dog's dried out skin condition from bathing too frequently. Jacked up electrical bills. The list goes on.
And gobs of l-a-b-o-r to cover all the bases spelled J-A-C-K. The mowing is a given, true, but the wife also has a landscaper/slave to do that, me. She calls me Juan.
I figure $200-$300 in lawn care products annually is very short money, financially and labor-wise.
BTW.......you have a 6 year old Doberman? Cool.
Jack :-).
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
cnw1995... I got moss everywhere - at least it's green.
Doug - and with or without fertilization the weeds are green also. I can attest to that!
Got home and the son had mowed the lawn! Has there been a shift in the earth's magnetic field or something I missed????
Another warm one here today - 70's. Consistently running 10 degrees above normal here - summer???
Let me correct the Chief's assertions - the fat cat is his normal shef and he wears his mayor's personna the rest of the time - always holding a fish...
Happy St Pats day tomorrow!
Have a great evening all!
Regards, Roy
OhayĆ,
It’s been a busy couple of days here. I’ve had quite a few tasks to complete at work and I’ve also been busy with schoolwork. The weather was very nice the past two days but unfortunately the rain is rolling in for the weekend. We went to the local Wal-Mart style store yesterday to look at plants, herbs, and flowers. We will probably do some serious planting next weekend. We had a couple more earthquakes the past couple of days but I did not feel any of them. The wife was right the other day when she said she felt one of them; it was 5.8 and a little closer to us but it still did not cause us any issues. The third one was Thursday night while we were sleeping and we had no idea. Some of the folks who live in towers on base said they feel them more. Apparently, the taller buildings and towers here are built on some sort of rollers to prevent major problems. We had two couples from the church over for coffee and dessert last night. We had a nice time and tasty food. We don’t have any big plans for today.
Jack – I’ve tried those but I still prefer Guinness.
Banks – I’m sorry you lost Lucy.
Dennis – I’ll pray for your friend and his wife. I hope the surgery goes well.
Bob – Your trip to work on the Iowa sounds like a good time. It will be hard work but I’m certain it will be very rewarding.
John – That is great news about your nephew.
Sayonara,
Joe
Slow day for me today. This morning I went down to my parents place and used the tractor and small trailer to move some bags of garden soil over to my fathers shop then helped him clean and paint the recently welded part of the hull of the Mynah Bird, my mothers old 1962 ski boat which my father is rebuilding in his spare time. It's an aluminum sixteen foot V bottom Lone Star ski boat. The seats and wood seat platforms had dry rotted badly when it was in storage for some years and when he brought it out to start working on it hurricane Rita dropped several very large green pine branches on it breaking part of the bow and completely wiping out what remained of the control panel and electrical system. He has had the control panel rebuilt and the electrical system replaced with a modern system and an electronic Evinrude 90 hp V4 outboard motor. The old 60's era 75 hp Evinrude V4 motor was completely locked up and couldn't be salvaged. The steering system has also been replaced with modern components. He has new lounge seats with bases for it but hasn't had time to put them in. They look just like the old ones did when they were new. As far as structural damage there's still the place on the bow where one of the big branches split the riveted seam between the bow deck and the hull. He's already had it in the water and running. It didn't take long to find there was a leak in the bottom where the two halves of the hull come together in a riveted seam. He had the rivets removed and the seam has been plated and welded. Maybe he'll get it all back together someday. Right now it is his work project.

Nope I could not, but I did find the Fat Cat section.

Eyes have finally calmed down from the pre-surgery consult, spent the day nodding off quite frequently with all the rooms darkened. Surgery scheduled for middle of next month.
Almost didn't recognize the Chief, must have been that bow tie.
Still waiting on the weather, , will it or won't it ?
Banks, for your weekly "Friday Fish Fry", lots of work but the satisfaction it brings goes a long way. Not to mention I love a good platter of Fish & Chips, unfortunately it is getting difficult to find anymore.
Later all !

Good evening everyone. First time I got back here in a few days. Been real busy with work. I am on call and had plenty to do. With any luck, I will make it through the weekend without having to head back in. Tomorrow night, we are going to an arena football game. Hospital gave me tickets for the family. It will be our first football game with the kids.
Fife, today. In the Wall Street Journal, they have an article about how the EU charges a carbon footprint tax on all planes landing or taking off from Europe. They charge an amount adjusted for the length of the flight. If a flight originates in the US, and lands in London, even though the plane is only over Europe for a short distance, they are charged for the entire time in the air. The airlines can purchase off setting credits if they go over a certain amount in a given amount of time. I am not sure who gets the money for the carbon credits, perhaps God? It really is ridiculous, but they are talking of using the EU's model for the rest of the world. I believe they had spoken of having it regulated by the UN. No, I am not a fan of any of this!
Roy, another great museum to take in is the Battleship North Carolina. It is by Wilmington. The New Jersey is up and running, but I think they still have a bit of work till she has everything done. The NJ is down by Camden. Had a buddy from the Marine corps who sailed back from Beruit on her. I am with RT, it would be great if the battleships were part of the fleet.
Currently watching I Love Toy Trains. This episode is on the Illinois train museum and trains in Europe along with some weathering tips by Norm Charbonneau.
Well, I do hope that each of you has a blessed weekend. Joe, thanks for the prayers. They did get the biopsy and some surrounding lymph nodes. After the frozen section is complete, she most likely will have the upper lobe of her right lung removed.
God bless,
Dennis

Time for me to call it a day. Pulled my mu'd pair of GP9m's off the display rack this evening. Gave the wheels a cleaning then test ran it on the layout. Both units run perfectly together. I look forward to seeing them pulling a train around the layout. Too much excess rolling stock on the track right as I haven't put away the cars from the last few coupler mounting sessions. Maybe someday when I feel up to gathering them up and putting them away. See y'all tomorrow.
Bet RT loves that cat outfit, Chief - very fun!
Feeling a lot better today, thank goodness! Being sick for so long really gets you down in the dumps. Rain and drizzle and then big rain storms today. Went to Noodles & Co for dinner with the family, then my son and I perused Vintage Stock while the girls went shopping for clothes in the mall. I picked up a Pogo book for $5. The lady said, you know there is no return on books right? Oh - okay, I want it anyway
TARDIS is ready and we have banilla, so the party should be extra fun tonight! We need to check out that new GP loco that RT bought and run it on the main layout Let's go, Mike!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cloudy 52 degrees. Going up to 78 today with a chance of rain.
Today is an easy day. I have a small errand to run and the usual chores to do. Then, I can relax and do some reading. Love the Trains mag. And I will take a short nap later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.

Hi GUYZ,
38 here going up to 68. Ran trains last nite for 2 hrs., NO PILE UPs. Nice time me and my MINNIE. She had a few sips of OL MIL too.
BLOWNOUT, nice pic of the drive in sign. Boy does that bring back memories
Gotta go, GUN SHOW in HARRISBURG today.
Stay frosty,

Konbanwa,
As predicted it rained most of the day. I was able to sneak in a quick three-mile run right before lunch while it was only misty outside. The older boy pedaled his bike right alongside me. I did some minor chores and worked on school assignments the better part of the afternoon. The kids lazed around while the wife knocked out the grocery shopping. I did receive a Lionel Lehigh Valley crane car in the mail. I won it on Choo Choo about 10 days ago. I was the only bidder so I won it cheap. I am going to finish some school work now and then I will be off to bed. I need to wake up early for a chat conference with my fellow classmates.
Dennis – What will the results of that type of procedure have on the quality of her life? To me it sounds awful, but I do not know anyone who has gone through it so I could be way off. I’m hoping our medical advances and surgical procedures could reduce the impact. I also sent you a note on an unrelated topic.
Morning all. Sunny and real warm. Had a good shower last night. Hope they hold off till kids' bike parade and etc is over. Fatcat does not want to get wet.
Hope NCSU and OSU win games. Funny, Duke crashed.
Getting moving so I will be ready for the event.
Later.
Chief how will anybody know its you? They forgot to put the Mayor logo on the fat cat suit.
54 and sun, going to near 70. Early fog has burned off. We have no plans for the day and I've had a big breakfast so lunch is out.
Happy St. Patrick's day...S.J.
sir james IThey forgot to put the Mayor logo on the fat cat suit.
Brutus: Glad to hear you're feeling better.
Good morning. It's 68° and mostly cloudy with patchy fog. The high will be 85° and it'll be partly cloudy.Looks like the plan for today is to put away the excess freight cars that are on the layout. There's only thirty-five of them resting on the rails. I reworked them for various reasons, repaint, weathering, body mounting Kadee couplers, rebuilding/repair and on some all of the above. They weren't put away at the time because I didn't feel like it or I wasn't able to or other things got in the way. Maybe someday I'll have a rolling stock sale but I don't think it'll be any time soon.Last night the old 70's era Bachmann 0-6-0 got to run on the ten feet of track I use as a test track. It has no decoder so was being run on address 00. Smooth with no jerks or stutters. That reminds me that I also have half a dozen locos to put away. After that I should be able to run a train all the around the layout without encountering some kind of obstacle.
jeffrey-wimberly sir james I: They forgot to put the Mayor logo on the fat cat suit. And a bulls-eye for the pie throwing contest!

Good early afternoon everyone. Got called in dark early for a emergency case and finally home. As many of you here are experiencing, our temps are in the high eighties. Hope to get some work done on some of the buildings and scenery for the layout, but a nap is needed first. Right now, I am watching a film on the railways in China and the migration that occurs every year for Chinese New Year. Many parents leave their kids with relatives and then go to work in the cities. The average home for a family in China is 600 square feet. That is smaller than the room I have my layout in!
Speaking of China, our documents are officially DTC, and on their way. This is the last hurdle before going. Now we just have to wait on the Chinese government. I can hardly wait. I would like to eventually get a O gauge train model of a Chinese train for our kids. Who knows, the way things are going, we may see some before long.
Joe, she may be somewhat limited in activity as her lung function will be less, but the alternative would be much worse. The fact that they got this early is big. Her husband is the same retired Air Force Colnel I mentioned awhile ago who has the glioblastoma. He was a fighter pilot, think he flew the F106, and some other Vietnam era jets. Also, I responded to your message, thanks.
Time to get some rest. Have a great weekend everyone.
Top of the mornin to ye on this St. Paddy's day.
Raining hard at times today. Rained during the night but just lightly. Now it is getting serious.
Chief, don't get your kitty kat suit wet.

Need to check outside when rain lets up to see if I need to pump any water out of pool and other low spots.
Whatever happened to Phish?

SPMan Chief, don't get your kitty kat suit wet. Ray
I did and not pee in it. Gell ice packs in front and back. Sweat running into eyes. Clothes wet [tee shirt and pajama shorts]. 80+ degrees and in the sun. Came home. Pam gone. Had to struggle to get in. Burg, Lucy and Finn could not figure out the fat cat with Daddy's head and voice. Had a horrible time getting out of it as it zips down the back and sleaves were wet inside. Finally got out of it in livingroom. Lucy still stares at the thing sitting on the floor. Photos coming soon.
Had a great kids parade. Bikes all decorated up as well as the kids. Mayor had to stop and repair one young lady's bike half way around the course.
Off to dinner tonight.
BTW: LAZ has 7 more to 7K.
