Hello all

Ordered the parts I need for the 140 Banjo and 151 Semaphore today from Brassuer's, along w/ a couple more bits for the 1664. Also found some track bumpers, pair of 1122's, and a rheostat that should keep the Sakai set on the track from one of my favorite sellers on the bay.

Don - good to hear from you. If you find the instructions for the bidet, you might send them to the Chief...

Regarding gas prices - glad I have a car that gets 40+ and a motorcycle that gets 100+

And glad I no longer have the '75 Sedan de Ville w/ the 500cid V-8 w/ a 600 CFM Quadrajet on itAutomobile

Last year I shared the following link with many of you and the feedback was A+, it's about the Eagle cam in Decorah, IA and it's better than ever this year.  There is no charge, no sign up fee, just incredible live streaming video.  If you have children or grand children or are simply interested in Eagles this is a must see.  The Eagles are back and the last time I checked there were 2 eggs in the nest, last night we had big winds and about 4" of snow but the nest is doing well.  This particular link attracted 100's of thousands of visitors last year from all over the world,  just thought you might enjoy a little break from the trains so here 'ya go!

http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

PS -- this afternoon I was out with my good camera and long lens and was able to take several pics of 14 Eagles less than one mile from our home, it's been a great day.

Ohayƍ,

It is a rainy, somewhat cold Saturday morning.  I'm having bread pudding and coffee for breakfast.  I don't have big plans for today.  The two older kids have a birthday party to attend at the indoor swimming pool, and the wife and I need to go buy more safety latches for the kitchen cabinets.  The youngest one can now open the refrigerator and loves to play with the light switch in it.  The problem is he likes to slam the door and attempt to remove items from it.  Today is also the last day of my first MBA class.  I have to finish my last assignment and then I have a week off; the second class starts next Monday.

RT - Stay well this time.

V8 - I saw that news footage as well.  I'm wondering why the bystander at the pumps didn't get down sooner.  If the police are drawing their weapons it is probably best to hit the ground.

Bob - I like the O gauge FasTrack.  It works especially well for folks who have to regularly pull it apart and set it back up.

Jon - Thanks for the link.  Our kids will enjoy it.

Sayonara,

Joe

IZ here!!!  Came through a massive thunderstorm between Mt. Pleasant and Concord.  We were down to a crawl with high speed wippers on.   Going to the store for a few.  Then, Hooters for a bunch of wings.  No, not staying.  Coming back to the room and eating and watch TV.  Resting.  Not over doing it like I usually do.  Always out sell everyone nation wide.  I'm actually doing them a favor.  That is especially true next weekend flying to Ft. Lauderdale.

We are everywhere.

Really, I'm tired.  Had long walk thru at new Middle School.  Took over two hours.  Yes, that big.  New high school even bigger.  Gym will hold 1,600 in bleachers and more on the floor in chairs.  Fire code says 2,500.  One of the few middle schools with lighted football field, bleachers, underground irrigation and concession stand.  Paved track.  Those paid for by the Town.  The lights are monitored by some company out mid west.  No joke.  They can tell if there is a light out or any problem.  Something like 20 year warranty on system and bulbs.  No shadow type.  Interesting.

Later

PS: Thanks Buckeye.

Good afternoon everyone.  We are under a tornado warning, to say we have had some storms would be an understatement.  I was at the hospital through most of it, but upon coming home, just noticed a bit of water all around.

Don, good to hear from you.  Nice looking photos there and congratulations on the hobby shop.  That is quite the accessory.

With regard to trucks, I keep mine parked, but should drive it a bit more given the ethanol gas, shouldn't let it sit too long.  The car I usually drive gets 32mpg, so it is not too bad, but it does require high test.  Can be pricey.

I an feeling a bit rough.  Hope to check in later.  Have a blessed weekend.

Wonder if the company is MUSCO out of south east Iowa, they are an amazing company who do outdoor lighting around the world and talk about being friendly to schools, they stepped in 4 years when the Iowa Jazz Championships found out that they had lost Pioneer Seed funding (huge$$$) and MUSCO said "how much do you need" and handed them a check for $10,000.00, if you need more call us ........ and all of that happened just 5 weeks before the Championships date, it's a HUGE deal in Iowa.  The qualifying bands for that contest are simply amazing, especially in the big school division.

32 degrees, no real change in the weather, no new sno.

A senior moment, saw a girl in a movie called Mallrats, knew I had seen her but couldn't remember in what. I had to look it up, she played a bride to be that got real friendly with Bud Bundy. There was a pic with it, she ain't cute and sexy no more..lol. But then neither am I.  S.J.

Jeff the lock? Didn't even know it was there.

I have no idea how or why it is locked. Maybe I pushed a wrong button or something.

I used edit and turned it off.

TGIF!  Windy and 40's today.

I vegged out and watched the truck race tonight.  Three unsuccessful green-white-checkered attempts to finish the race.  Wiped out about 1/2 the field to wrecks in the last 10 laps.  Didn't seem ideal to me.  Is this a product of the 'spec' race car?

All for now.

For those curious about the innards of the U25C, it's an older Athearn blue box SD45 mechanism that's mostly original. The differences are a new motor, different light mounting and a hardwired Bachmann DCC decoder. The motor was changed because the old black ring magnet motor didn't agree with DCC at all. The original light mount was removed due to the tiny front hood of the Rivarossi U25C body. The light is mounted on top of the front truck so it still fries the crew in the cab. Oh yeah, four of the six wheelsets were changed out with nickel silver wheelsets. The center wheelset in each truck are the old sintered iron wheels.

Konbanwa,

We ran a bunch of errands today while the two older kids were at the pool party so I did not finish my schoolwork this afternoon.  I will stay up late tonight to complete it.  I am looking forward to the weeklong break from schoolwork.  I am going to have a quick nap now and then finish the work.

Chuck - Send your snow out here.

Good morning. It's 38° and mostly sunny. The high will be 62° and it'll be partly sunny.

Think I'll take a break today. There are new movies on the DVR that need watching. Finally got the L&A decals on the U25C. The decal on the short hood however has proven to be a problem and it seems to be impossible to get it placed just right. So I'll have to peel that one off.

Hello all

Clear and cold again (~28 deg) on the mountain this morning. Boss left yesterday, so it's just me and my co-worker for the weekend.

Jeffrey - thanks for the pic on the innards of the U-boat! It's looking a little clean and unmarked though...

BlownoutCyl - I spy the "old man on the tractor" symbol on that yard engine. It's an International! Almost as good as an Alco!

Chief had some helpful advice regarding the repair of a ZW. He may be smarter that he looks...

News from the Mt. Graham Boiler Shop:

Remove the whistle mechanism from the tender for the 1664. Cleaned her up good and managed to epoxy the relay bracket where someone probably dropped it years ago. Hopefully we will be making music today.

Went hunting around for the repair sheets for prewar Lionel. Found a copy but the bidding war was on for way more than I was interested. Ended up running across a copy of the model railroading rulebook by Lionel circa 1952 and picked that up. Hopefully it will teach me how to use my new signals.

Late in the afternoon my boss called from a pawn shop near my house. He's into music and was looking at guitars. Near the guitars were a bunch of Lionel trains in boxes. Going to have to go check it out when I get back.

Morning all, still junky but have too much to do to relax.  I have been asked to help out with a school function.  Wife had given money and is donated the day, but they still don't have enough warm bodies I guess.

Chief, be sure to let corporate know and give them a chance to make things right.  I would tell the clerk this will be made right either by you or those above you.  The latter just makes you(the clerk), look bad.

Got my station to weather and rename and then it has to find a place on the layout.  A few more additions should be going on soon, then it will be mostly tree work.

Take care,

Dennis

Good morning.

Sunny and crisp, 24 degrees right now. Most of the snow melted yesterday. Thumbs Up

Not much going on today, I have to keep an eye on George the cat. He got his shots yesterday and is feeling down. He won’t eat and is having some lethargy effects.  Ick!   Hope he snaps out of it soon.

Chief, sounds like you got the perfect car. Just beat the tar out of it when they do that as payback.  Mischief

RT, I think all wives take 2 hours to get ready to do anything. Dots - Sign

Dennis, you had better slow down and get caught up on some rest or you won’t get better. It is important to know things can wait.  Zzz

Buckeye I checked our silos but they don’t seem to work like yours. I can’t find the card reader.  Hmm

Bob, good luck on that pawn shop find.  Stick out tongue

DougM hope your dug out by now looks like you guys got hit pretty good.  Surprise

Prayers to those in need!  Angel

Have a great Saturday guys,

I finally got the short hood decal sorted out. I gave it a double shot of Matte Finish to help keep it in place. The main part of the problem was posed by the handrails. There's less than a quarter of an inch distance between the handrails and the hood. I can't even get may pinky finger in there. I got the idea to stick a small piece of foam to a short piece of a ladder. I used this to hold the end of the decal against the model while I pulled the decal paper out with a small pair of scissors being careful to keep the decal properly aligned. Once the paper was out of the way I used the foam tipped ladder to pat the decal into place. I then slipped in a double layer of paper towel and pressed it down with the ladder to seat the decal and soak up the water. After it had dried I hit it with a double shot of Matte Finish. I still have to make new windows and number boards. The headlight lenses will be the easiest. Two blobs of super glue gel.
