Never heard of the Cummins having driveline issues...Viper at 660 HP, and GM thought that it would make a splash with the 580 HP Camaro....lmao...The Mustang weights in at 600!!! I'd rethink any GM purchase...I'm more Mopar, but that 600 HP horse sounds tempting! Rich Colin, Rich, and JimmyT........you guys must be rich, or you own stock in Royal Dutch Shell or EXXON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 2007 SRX has a 4.8L Northstar rated at 320hp/315 lb.ft torque. It is an AWD 7 passenger crossover vehicle. It consumed slighly more than $4,000 in (premium grade) gasoline this past year, maybe a little more because the prices per gallon were a tad higher a few months back (climbing once again now toward $4 per gallon). That covers roughly 20,000 miles for me in a 4,450 pound GVW vehicle with a 6 spd automatic transmission. @ a guestimate average fuel mileage of 18-19mpg for the year. Around town with a very light right foot it gets 15-16 while I can squeeze 22+ mpg pure highway on cruise control at the posted speed limits with no stops or traffic interference to speak of. The vehicles you guys are talking about weigh more, have far more motor, have far more horsepower and torque, and are less aerodynamic........so I might argue their fuel mileage will be less than what I get. Add in a heavy right foot and the variance will grow. Get out your wallets!!!!!!

Good evening everyone. Very long few days. Went up to Atlanta to do a site visit at a hospital there. Last night, we went out for dinner and had the Romney caravan speed by. Boy, I can't wait till we are past the primaries here. Anyway, was up all night, then went in early and spent the day. Drove back 3hours, and now have to host our friend's kids as the wife went to the ER.
Regarding aortic aneurysms, Rich, was he a heavy smoker? Majority are.they are very serious and can be fatal in a big hurry. Unfortunately, some folks try to endur the pain and medicate themselves with a fifth of liquor. By the time they present to the ER, they are either ruptured, or about to.
Banks, your spell checker probably tried to "fix" it, but it should read "hyperbaric chamber". They use them for chronic wound healing. Another technique is to use platelet rich plasma which is extracted from the patient, separated in a centrifuge, and mixed with thrombin and injected into the wound. It is high in growth factors and really promotes healing.
Well, gotta run, hope everyone has a great night.

I'm with Jack on this one. My first two trucks were little 4 bangers with lock out hubs, needed the 4 X 4 to get up our driveway. Graduated to a full size 1/2 ton Tundra, great truck. Four years ago when gas was approaching $4.00 I bought a new 2008 Tundra 5.7 liter 4 x 4 -- they were practically giving them away and that's why I bought it, no one in their right mind would buy a 1/2 ton with such a big motor. I love that truck, I can pull a trailer with a 1/2 ton on it from here through the mountains of Colorado and it doesn't even hiccup .... the only issue is fighting the steering wheel going past a gas station, ahem. I bought that truck knowing it wasn't going to be a daily use truck, that changed last fall when the boss totaled our "economical" car. I then started driving the Tundra daily, ouch. Last week I bought a car that gets 49 MPG on the highway and 51 in town and I love it. I still have my truck, always will, but I gotta tell you ... paying $60.00 - 70.00 for a tank of gas sucks, and that's at today's prices. Add on .50 for diesel. Just sayin.

When I was your age I was exactly like you guys. I didn't think twice about fuel costs or mpg. But by the time I was about 30, I finally stashed my fun car (1969 Corvette) for fun driving only. I had a more practical and mundane, dependable daily drivers you guys might not want to be caught dead in.
Ah, to be young again, and without the serious overhead that comes with accumulating stuff and having a family. I say, do it now while you can and have the budget to do it!
JimmyT........the Corvette was purchased used, with a 5.7L 350ci solid lifter small block rated at 370hp. It was 4 years old when I bought it "preowned." And the exhaust sound? It came with factory side exhausts. Then I swapped them out for Hooker headers and Hooker full race side exhausts. Each side exhaust had two removable muffler cartridges, so you could vary the exhaust note from merely obnoxious to totally obscene.
OK, you made me post this (and now ducking for cover...)

KRM Jeffery, I am not going to argue with you on who feels the worst. No point counter point from me. I will just keep it to myself. I do know alittle about what pain is after having a crushed left arm since 1996, three botched surgeries, the 14"+ scar from them, chronic ulner nerve pain and 7 years on 7.5 Vicodins 6 times a day. I finally said to heck with it and quit the meds and did the mental pain block. It can be done.

As for the van, the neutral safety switch sounds like a good place to start. I have never seen one do that. Is the key in the column or dash? If it is in the column and the shift linkage is sloppy it may have a short in there somewhere past the key switch leading down the inside of the column.
Good luck, let me know what you find.

Good morning all,
Kevin, you were a lot more diplomatic about that bullet hole in your tree near the house than most folks would be.
Jeffrey, sorry you're having so much pain. Prayer to get over it soon.
Has anyone ever changed the electric cord on a Lionel ZW transformer? A friend of mine asked me if I could replace his. I have never done one of these so don't know what you might run into. I sent my MTH Z4000 back to MTH once but that is electronic which I know nothing about.
Went out to social gathering last night with friends from church. Host and hostess served homemade chile and hors derves. also had homemade cornbread with the chile. It was all good but I was a little apprehensive because I was having GI problems earlier in the day however it all went well.
Re aortic aneurysm, nothing to play with. Deadly serious. I was fortunate to have mine discovered by a doctor before it broke serveral years ago and had it surgically corrected.
Need to check on friend with heart surgery today. Should be home from the hospital by now.
Good day all,

Hello everyone. I won't say it's a good day but so far it's less painful than yesterday was. The pain in my foot is down to an ache instead of feeling like there's a truck parked on it. I might actually get something done on the layout today. Now, a question for the motor heads out there. I'm having a problem with my van. When I put it in reverse the starter relay starts chattering and sometimes the starter kicks in and the starter just keep cranking and cranking until I put the tranny back in park or turn the key off. I'm thinking this is a problem with the neutral starter switch, the same thing that turns your vehicles backup lights on and off and keeps you from starting it in forward and reverse. I think it's starting to fail and is triggering the starter relay when the backup lights go on. What do you think?
Who is the poor soul from New Jersey that is traveling to North Carolina? Make sure you have your shots. Unfortunately they are very painful with a long dull needle. They are identical to the shots you take when you go to any third world country.

V8Vega I went shooting yesterday afternoon and could have worn shorts. I bought another BB- pellet gun yesterday morning, that makes 9 alltogether. A Remington Air Master multi pump, 755 ft. per sec. BB repeater, pellet single shot. I know I will only shoot it once in awhile but I enjoy buying them

V8 Dennis, Speaking of shooting, I live in a very wooded area and the property to the south of us sold about 4 month ago, 22+ acres. I have been hearing a lot of shooting going on over there and don’t pay much attention to it, but today I saw a nice bullet hole in the tree right in front of our house. So I had to hobble over there on my lame foot and I left this note for the new guy on his target back board. Hope it works. Maybe he is a rebel. SOME PEOPLE! Kev.

Hi neighbor,
My name is Kevin Myers I live just to the north of your property.
Please do not shoot to the north. I have found a bullet hole in a tree right in front of our house that looks to be from a high velocity shotgun shell, rifle or pistol and it lines up with your deer blind that Studeman built. Hard to believe it made it to my place but sure looks like to me. I am not sure you knew we were here but wanted you to know. If you would like to have a look, please do come over and introduce yourself. I would be glad to meet you.
Thanks again,
Kevin Myers

Good Morning Modelers!
It's a bit warmer today (24F) but cold air is heading back in this weekend with another chance of some white stuff. The ice ruts on the side streets can be allot of fun even with a 4x4 and it looks like they might still be with us for awhile. Still working on uploading my model RR inventory roster shots to my new modeling blog.
Right now it's all about "I Love NY" DHNY Boxcars...
Bright sun, 20 degrees and frost. Not much going on today. I may go into town and sit in on the local liars club for awhile. Whifey has abandoned me to spend the night at our daughter’s place to baby-sit the munchkin tonight so they can go out. She failed to tell me until I asked her last night why she was packing up. "Oh did I forget to tell you Mia asked me to baby-sit???" Yeah, but I will be fine. So it is the cat and I today. Jeffery hope your foot gets better I feel you pain. No I really feel your pain! The new meds have not kicked in yet I guess but I have hope for later in the day. Today is only day two for them. Colin the guy next door has a 2005 Dodge 3500 with the Cummins and a 6 speed and works it like a pack mule. He has had many issues with it but none with the engine. The other guy in our lane has a 2007 Ford F350 with straight pipes and the pipes screwed up the variable pitch turbo in it because it needs some back pressure. That cost him $1,000 +. He had 4 injectors that cost him $4,000 by the time they got it figured out. He also had a issue with a oil cooler in the engine and if you need to do any kind of major engine work they take the CAB off of the truck so they can get to the engine. What is with that??? You all have a good day. Kev,

Morning all,
Headed to class in a few but figured I'd get one post in before I leave for the weekend.
Jim: That video is a perfect example of what a Mustang should sound like! It sounds perfect! The only reason I'd be worried about MPG is because of the price of diesel. I'm thinking of looking into one of the large after market tanks so I'd fill up less, but that large tank plus higher MPG would be perfect!
Here's a stacked Cummins that sounds perfect and it's a 6 speed manual. I would get a 6 speed manual if there wasn't always traffic where I live:

I'll check in when I get home, later all.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a clear and sunny 18 degrees. Going up to 45 today with sunshine.
Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and a little project to work on. Then, I think I will read my CTT mag and the new Trains mag. And, of course, a nap later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s. A couple of good things happened yesterday, one work related and the other not as much so, but both were unexpected and nice. Got to scrimmage with "my" soccer girls last night. Scored a goal. Did one play that surprised the$1***$2t coach. I told I "had moves like Jagger" to which she gave an appropriate response I played for an hour and a half. Was tired, but did not get hurt. Slept well. Better day than I thought it would be. Jeff, take care of yourself. Your insights are most appreciated for sure. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East". TBIL and I can drive again. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Hello all

Early morning. Wifey's cat woke me up at 5. She was hungry. Now you can not leave food anywhere for her as Finn can reach it. He loves cat food.
Howdy Dood. You said a word that reminded me. Where is Pat [VA]? Feeding the cows? Don't remember seeing him post lately.
Well, time to get ready to go to Raleigh.
Later.

Colin,
I heard you on a straight piped diesel truck. A neighbor has a diesel F350 that is straight piped. Why worry about MPG? I was getting 26 MPG on the Mustang with the stock tune and an Airaid intake. After reflashing with an 87 Performance Tune from American Muscle's Bama Performance, I am at 19MPG right now, but I'll never go back to stock. Love the performance and sound. Getting Ford's stock mufflers off and replacing them with MAC also helped. Although this isn't my video, it is one of the best in terms of how they really sound:

Not much going on here. Will catch up tomorrow.
Evening, actually morning all,
I always tell myself I'll go to bed by 11 but it never seems to work out. My buddy and I finished the kitchen and family room of the house we were working on. The client's were so happy with our work that they asked us to come back next week to re-drywall a part of a bedroom and repaint it as well. So it looks like I'll have a good work week next week.
My goal for the summer (money being the main factor) is to be able to put a down payment on a diesel pickup, but I can't decide between a Cummins or a Duramax. The Chevy (or GMC) Duramax with the Allison transmission is pretty tempting, but the sound of a straight piped 5.9 Cummins is as good as a diesel can sound. The only problem is that Dodge usually has issues with the transmissions and it will be a plow and towing truck so the transmission has to be durable. Then I will be adding some go fast bits here and there such as an exhaust, tuner, intake and injectors. I'd like to see 500whp on the performance tune and mid to high 20's MPG on economical. I drove my buddy's 2004 Sierra, Duramax equipped, today and I really like it a lot.
Well, I'm headed to bed now. My night class for tomorrow (or today, rather) is cancelled, so I'm heading up to the mountains earlier than expected!
Night guys.
Think good thoughts, do good deeds!
Good night all. Busy day. Morning, deck for front of Box posts set in concrete and headers bolted. Tomorrow, decking. Meetings at lunch and afternoon today. Off to bed as early Raleigh meeting and then late eye Dr.
I smell a NJ Yankee headed this way. Might set a trap.
Snowhio hitting the Yanks is fine with me.
Sleep tight.
PS - neat find, RT! Glad you saved it
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Nice F unit, hope you feel better soon!
Rich - good luck on the next job and hope a really good one is still coming your way!
DougM - thanks for the link to that brit magazine - notice the York ad on page 29? I'd love to have something going with some of those hornby sets, but that's HO really and .....
TARDIS is ready, so let's hit the HIGH Way!
Time for me to call it a night. It hasn't been a good day. I can hardly walk at all. The pain is so intense I'm gritting my teeth and for that to happen to me would have a normal person screaming in agony. I can hardly think straight. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. Many times this runs in cycles. Most of the time I can get around and the pain is tolerable. Other times it hurts like it is now and sometimes it hurts bad if I just think about getting up.Oh well, tomorrows another day. See y'all then.
