30 degrees and a fresh sheet of snow. Not much just enough to make everything white. Wife did not sleep well the night before last so that means no one did. So we both crashed early last night. I slept like a rock but am wide-awake now. Got a friend coming over this afternoon to site in a 30-06 he just had worked on at Gander Mountain on the 100-yard range here. Should be fun. Off to the foot DR at 10:45. Sorry about the job Bob. I barley made it through my last CDL physical because my blood pressure was not that of a 20 year old. It gets harder all of the time. For now I am good for 2 more years.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cloudy 34 degrees. Going up to 40 today with a chance of snow flurries.
Today is a busy day. I have chores to do and an errand to run. Then, I can take it easy. Maybe a nap later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Morning. Warmer but cloudy. Snowing in NC at several thousand feet above the ground. REB Army campfires are making it melt and evaporate as it falls.

Congrats to Arizona on its gun laws and immigration lasws which the UNION is trying to overturn. You are lucky that nothing was there except Apaches when the REB Army marched west. Actually New Mexico was taken by the REB Army for short while.
Later.

Konbanwa,
We had a chilly, overcast day most of today. It rained for a little bit this evening and it may snow overnight. I bought the wife some flowers today; she always tells me not to do that, but I always do. However, I don't buy roses on Valentine's Day and usually buy some other colorful arrangements. I buy her roses on our anniversary. We ordered pizza for dinner and watched Soul Surfer. It's a very good movie with a positive message. After the kids went to sleep, the wife and I watched a Rick Steves episode: Swiss Cities.
Bob - I'm sorry the new job plans fell through. I'm glad you still have a good job to go back to.
I'll pray for all of us (families, friends) in need.
Sayonara,
Joe
Good morning. It's 49° and cloudy with dense fog. The high is looking to be 69° and it will be partly cloudy.Well I didn't even get one weathering project started yesterday. Maybe today will be different. I hope today doesn't turn into a repeat of yesterday. My father thought it would be much better if I spent time at his home than at my own. Problem is there's nothing to do there than spend time with them and I can't take any projects with me because I can't spend time with them if I'm working on something and weathering projects tend to be dirty affairs which are best not done in the presence of two attention starved (spoiled rotten is more like it) poodles and one very curious cat that demands to be in the middle of whatever is going on. And now you know why I didn't get anything done yesterday. Right now it's way too humid in here. I have to get the moisture level down a bit or the weathering powder will tend to clump and not work right. Be back later.

Good Evnin' Y'all From Warming Cape Ann Taxachussetts,
I am watching Steven Segal (with Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey) on AMC. He portrays Casey Ryback in Under Seige (USS Missouri hijacking). Not Zombies, Brutus, but it will do.
Dennis........I found the DVD, but was hoping to take the wife out to a "real" moviie theater to see it on re-release. I think we have been out to see only one movie at a movie theater in the past 10 years. And that was at a drive- in we found while camping in Vermont.......what a hoot: the grandchildren, our adult children and son-in-law, and Maximus the dog, stuffed into two vehicles. It was some animated children's movie whose name escapes me.
Bob.........I know how disappointed you must be about the job you were hoping to get, understandably so. I am older than you and have gone through this serious disappointment myself. One time I lost out (twice) on a better job with the corporation I was with. And another time, I voluntarily left a sure thing to roll the dice on another company.....and the company folded. I can now look back on these instances with relief. Why? I am one of those who has lived the saying: if it doesn't kill you, it will make your stronger, if you make it so.
Pleasant dreams everyone.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
See one guy won that powerball, wow!
Sad to hear about Whitney. It's a shame.
Bob - sorry to hear about the job, but glad you are still working!
RT - good luck on the computer!
Dennis - those are the best games, though! Zombies need killing!
TARDIS is ready, so let's get going. Thanks for the loop-de-loops the other night, Mike! You and SJ sure know how to push the envelope
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good night. Warmer. No snow here. Speaking of AKC, Westminister is on TV tonight and tomorrow night.
Off to bed. Sleep tight.
PS: blocks being shipped by friend who pilots B52. He'll do a fly over and drop them out. Buckeye, Chuck and Kev, hope not too much roof damage.
Careful 8N, think there may be a couple of half blocks for you.
Cloudy, about 30 and snowy today. Ended up with somewhere between 4 and 6 inches. Shut the schools down too. On the positive side, I got a round of fresh outdoor air and exercise when I shoveled the walks tonight.
Summbob - bummer about the new job. At least you had a fall back position.
I took a computer with me while I traveled last week and kept current on my work e-mails. Made a big difference in the amount of catch up I had to do in the office today.
Chief - are you going to need to get an AKC certification on the deck on the 'box' to make sure it is a proper shelter for the hound dogs?
Probably going to head for bed early tonight. Fighting the 'tireds' and a runny nose.
Last night didn't help much. We got a call just before 4am from the security service who monitors the alarms at the KATY depot museum. Get up, get dressed, drive my wife to the depot to meet the police, walk around the building to discover that the alarm was apparently a false alarm. Did I mention that it was snowing during this adventure?
Isn't the new Lionel catalog due out pretty soon?
All for now.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Hello all
Cold and a bit breezy tonight. We are closed up again due to weather. Some of the white stuff forecast in the next day or so.
Well the new job fell thru today. Due to some health issues I do not qualify for the medical certificate for a CDL at present. Notified both the employers and the landlords. Everyone has been understanding. While it's a big disappointment I'm thankful that I still have a job and a boss that is happy to have me stay.
Well, the clockwork mechanism for the Marx is cleaned and oiled and runs well. Just need to clean up the boiler shell and cars.
It's up to 53 now and looks like we'll have a warm night (compared to the last two 50 is a blistering heat wave). At least I won't need the heater tonight. So far all I've done today is watch a movie and have lunch with my parents. Steak, sliced carrots, green beans, biscuits, onions. I thought I'd do some weathering today but I haven't even started one project.
Chief.....We have inspected the deck and found several deficiencies.
1. The area of the deck is substandard for the South. There must be room for four rocking chairs and a table used for the cleaning of weapons.
2. A roof must be constructed over the deck to avoid sunburn. A hanging ham would be a nice touch.
3. The deck is not ADA compliant. (As a public employee you are not exempt.)
4. In the south at least one of the steps needs to be busted.
5.Where are the mandatory coon dogs that will live under the deck?
6. Please remove the tires from your truck and put it up on the blocks in front of the box for that great Suthern architectural look.
Gas is 3.77 gal here in Southern California.
Dennis, prayers for good news about the kids coming to you.
Doug Murphy, prayers for your niece
Cloudy and cool all day with a little rain this morning. Took wifey to Dr. appointment and read an article in the latest Classic Trains Magazine about the Pennsylvania S2 steam turbine while waiting for her. They only made one #6200. Lionel must have made a zillion. The turbine was a good runner but was too late to stop diesels. I gave my Lionel version to my grandson. There have been at least a couple of scale size models on the market since Lionel days.
Jeffrey, stay warm and give your foot a rest.
Chief, take care of that cold before it gets worse.
More details trickling in about Whitney Houston's death. Heard something today about possible drowning in bathtub? Someone saw her only an hour before she was found. Tragic situation.
Jack, good news and good report on Maximus health.
Later,

Good evening everyone. Was a nice, but busy day. Got everything on the honey do list done. Shipped the documents off to the Chinese consulate, now the last thing is they check everything, approve it and send it to us, where we then ship documents to China. Once DTC as it is known, we wait for an invitation from The People's Republic of China to come get the kids!
Did a few minor cases today and had to go to a meeting. Not a fan of meetings, but it has been a learning experience. I am the clinical"expert" to this committee and have to try to explain things in a non-scientific way to make them understand.
Joe, thanks. Jack, Courageous is now available on DVD and Blue Ray. It can be purchased at WalMart and most retailers. If you go to a Christian store, they will have the special edition with some added content. I think it is mostly the story behind the movie and some production stuff. It is the top DVD in the country.
Well, I was finally able to burn this afternoon. After the landscapers came, the pile was abou eight feet tall and about twenty feet across. While the burn suggestion is for a six by six area, I did my best to isolate the pile and keep it from spreading. It is mostly burned down, some thicker logs still smoldering.
This evening, I am working on some building fronts I am coloring for the background on the layout. I have a variety if prints, some I am coloring myself, as well as actual resin moulded fronts that I weathered. I think it is starting to come along. I am by no means an artist.
Saturday night, there was a eleven year old shot in the abdomen. Turns out, he was shot by another eleven year old and a thirteen year old. The kid died. There is a great book on the psychology of killing and how with violent movies and video games, we are desensitizing ourselves to the idea of killing. The military does this when they train soldiers to shoot human shaped targets. The book is called "On Killing", written by Col. Dave Bregman I believe.
Shame about Whitney Houston, but it was an important time to talk to our kids about drugs. Such a talented voice, silenced by stupidity.
I pray that everyone has a blessed night.
God bless,
Dennis

Darren, When I was up in Grand Lake the studed snow tires went on the end of Sept and didn't come off til early May. After the studed tires came off the regular snow tires went on, we still would have snow come-n-go in early June and early Sept.
Chief, The "Box" looks good. I would have expected a larger deck though, one that would accommodate a nice rockin' chair and side table for a big glass of sweet iced tea.
for all our friends & families in need.
Had my Cheerios while typing now need to round-up my morning meds.

Gas was $3.23 two days ago and it is $3.45 today. Well I drove into town, dropped off a letter at the post office and came back home when I got about 700’ from the drive I remembered what I forgot I was going to do in the first place.. So turned around and went back to town and picked up the Valentine’s day card for Sandra. Must of caught a bit of old off of SJ. Chief, you better stay in and take care of that cold. Buckeye, Chuck and I will take care of things for you. RIJack, I thought only cats turned up the thermostats.

Got to go downstairs and swap out a main line switch that for some reason derails the dockside about every other lap.
Hello all,
Thanks for all your prayers. The boy is doing much better.
Cold snap is still here but weakening. 22 clear and breezy this AM. 'twas 16 and windy when we left for 7 AM Mass yesterday.
Busy weekend. Had a KFC feast and Cake & Ice cream to celebrate Mom's 91st yesterday. Hauled out the manure after the beef left. Now in the market for feeders.
Pat no problem with dogs around here. Feral cats are not tolerated.

Afternoon all. Warmed up but not as nice as it has been. The REB Army is sending it back Nawth [as KEV indicated].
Being lazy. Trying to fight off this cold. Got a meeting at 4 with a company to come to Rolesville from up north. Yes, we are going to steal your jobs.
Still trying to figure out how to send all those concrete blocks to Buckeye, Chuck and Kev for their vehicles.
Roy, you did a fine job.
Morning all. Received in the mail today another Atlas 1/25 scale 33,000 tank car from couple to coupler just shy of 17 1/2"
Its on the chilly side here today ( keep up the northern invasion up guys there weakening ) it's only 45 at present.
Suppose to get my desk top back for the second time tomorrow we'll see if they have it right this time. should of been fixed right the first time.
I have notice that for the most part I don't have to hit that torn piece of paper any more I have times but usually can tell as I can't get this type and can't copy and a lot of times the tool bar at the top of the post area is missing also found out if I have to windows opened to CTT forum by mistake this will happen.
Well off today. Talk to you all later

RockIsland52 Darren..........do certain locales near you require snow tires or studded snow tires?
Darren..........do certain locales near you require snow tires or studded snow tires?
Most of us drive with "All Season" tires rather then switch them out. Studs can be a pain here in the city as once the snow is melted some cities would require you to take them off to not damage the roads. It's mainly the side streets that can be tough to get around on after a major storm. The main drags are normally clear within about 24-48 hours by either the City, County, or State plows. It's the "black ice" you need to watch out for on the main drags during the morning and evening rush hours where the water freezes and thaws. As long as you watch your speed and distance between you and the other cars 99.99999% of the time your are fine. Get some jerk in a hurry to get nowhere and ZING they spin-out and take several other vehicles with them...
Now the "Low Profile" cars they can get stuck often after a storm just do to clearance...

Granny is BBsitting with a sick kid. I hope she doesn't bring the germs home with her. I stayed up long enough last night to say Hi to RT & Brutus then went to bed...Happy Monday the 13th...S.J.
Good Mornin' Y'all From Crystal Clear But COLD Taxachusetts,
Approached single digits last night, but not quite. With the temps rising to the high 30s today and mid to high 40s on tap for the remainder of the week, we are steadily moving toward the end of one of the more snowless Winters on record here. Think I will fire up the snowblower and stretch its legs for 5 minutes or so, just to be at the ready. Only 12 inches this Winter so far. Significant accumulations as late as April 1 have occured here. 1996 or 1997 (can't remember which) we got dumped with the April Fools storm, 18 inches of the real heavy stuff. I believe that was the Winter when we got a total accumulation pushing 120 inches (10 feet!)......and I was stupid, didn't have a snowblower back then. Wifey corrected that.
News on the dog front in our circle of acquiaintances is dismal. Two pups diagnosed with osteosarcoma the past month and another one with a setback following November spinal surgery. Granted, these are dogs. But two of the three were AKC certified ThD and heavily involved with weekly visits to physical therapy rehab hospitals, nursing homes, and extended care facilities where the patients benefit greatly from their weekly presence.
On the home front, at least all of the exam and labwork results of Maximus' annual physical last week came back "normal." Worse than having a child in one respect......dogs can't tell you what's wrong, or when. And they can be quite stoic, hiding symptoms.
Dennis.......at the risk of sounding redundant, once again kudos on the movie. I 've been watching for a rerelease up my way.
8N.......thank you for the encouraging update on your Mom. And the same for the news on your SIS. Your plate is pretty full. Prayers continue.
Jeff.......re your "cold" weather, look at it this way. Up my way your hands would have snapped clean off working on your van, and you would have been trying to reattach them with one of the JB Weld products. On a serious note, I really enjoy reading eah of your vehicle repair posts. I am less than useless when it comes to those matters.
DougM........that was some great news on the little ones. It was great you and your better half were able to fill some holes while the Docs sorted these things out. Prayers continue for their sprint back tofull and equal strength. Apologies for the beating the Celtics laid on the "Roseless" Bulls last night.
DougDG........reading your posts, I don't know where you get all of your energy. But it seems you keep all of the bases covered. It must be the beans and habaneros in your chili.
CHUCK.......gas prices have scooted $.30 a gallon here the past month.
MikeC.......how is it that there was nothing for you to do yesterday except play? Did you burn the "Honey Do" list?
SJ and Mitch.........you'se guyz need to hire out LAZ to consult on anti-pileup measures. As luck would have it, he will soon be looking to fill in some significant time gaps in his day. He said his gun will be for hire for a mere $100 per hour plus Ole Mil expenses. What train disasters are you guys modelling anyway?
Chief........the BOX seems to be coming along nicely, and quickly. But following all of the HVAC work you did on your attic empire, how are you planning on keeping your new train digs cool in the heat of the Summer? And when does the wifey send out your eviction notice and want you out of your current digs? Re the current crud, don't do what my buddy did and take things too lightly. Look what it got him. Nice pics of the family. Looks like you may need to consult Fife and find yourself a yatchet.
One thing to take away from Whitney Houston........success and money can't buy you peace and happiness.
Later, gang.
