Mornin' All.

Got a surprise B'day present from the Better Half last weekend. The hubby of one of her friends on the Children's Hospital Aux is somewhat of a tinkerer and he salvaged an old RR Xssing signal that got really beat-up in an accident so I now have a new piece of yard art. The crossbucks look almost new and the lights work but no sound. The post and light brackets were toast so the lights are on PVC conduit which is mounted along w/the crossbucks on a 4x4 post. Now to find a spot in the yard that would only be slightly annoying to the neighbors on either side, at least it wasn't a caboose.

Gotta run, sounds like the water is ready for the Better Half's coffee, she's content with instant since I had to give it up.

Check back later !

Buckeye, Happy birthday, I think?  Sounds like you are running the risk of being like the boy who cried wolf.  However, Happy B-Day whenever it is.

Finally figured out how to post a picture on the other forum.  Still need to learn how on this one.

Chief, smart move on staying away from the Ripple.  You can walk on water with that stuff or maybe on the ceiling.

Doug in Sandy Eggo, that was some birthday cake.  Now I know why they call you the grump.

Belated happy birthday to you tooHappy B-DayCakeBeer

later,

Jeffery,

Ok I know what you have there now. It is as I described as a spring in manifold system. The vacuum thing on the side of the carb is only the choke pull off. What they are calling the choke vacuum diaphragm.

It does not control the choke other than at start up when the choke spring is cold and tight that pulls the choke open a little when the engine starts so it will not die from tooo much fuel.

Looking at the bottom pictures it looks like it may have an elect coil under that plate on the intake that the main choke pull rod comes out of and up to the choke flap. Under the vacuum pull off diaphragm. I think it has 2 or 3 bolts that hold it to the intake. That is what controls the main pull rod. Pull it off and take a look see if the thing has a heat element in there or just a spring.

Also it looks like there is a terminal stud sticking up from it that should have a power wire to it. Possibly that red wire in the picture.

Lety me know what you find.

Kev.

Mornin' All.

Happy B'day Buckeye ! Here's your cake, just gotta watch where you place the candles.

Jeffery you are right. Should be easy to work, there is nothing to them.

Depending on what style of choke operator your carb has. Exhaust manifold draw styles can have rust overtake the draw tube and fills up the Exhaust Manifold where the tube pulls the heat from or the carb suction port gets clogged with carbon then you can get into a lot of work. Or if it pulls heat off of the intake center cross port and it is clogged then you have to remove the intake to clean it out so it will get hot enough to heat the spring up that pulls the chock off. This style in not a vacuum style system. They make an easy to install electric one. You can just put on the side and wire up to any hot spot that carries 15 amps or so when the key is on that will fit on the ones with the round side spring under the cover that fits on the side of the carb. For the ones with the heat draw from the intake center cross port just jet a manual cable pull choke.

What kind of carb do you have. Here is a link to one for an AFB

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDELBROCK-CARTER-AFB-ELECTRIC-2-TERMINAL-CHOKE-HOUSING-HI-PERF-NEW-/250990752787?hash=item3a7036f413&item=250990752787&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Kev

Nothing so fancy as what you show in the link. The vans carburetor is a standard non-electronic two barrel Carter. It has a small vacuum line that goes from the base of the carb to the choke. Strictly vacuum controlled. The closest carb I can find in a manual I have is the Carter two barrel BBD. The BBD has electronic feedback. The carb on my van has no electronic feedback. Other than that they're basically the same. The choke mechanism is identical and you can see it in the photo below.

And these two are of the actual article:

Good morning everyone.  Drove through the storm last night, plenty of hail, wind, and rain.  Had a tornado warning as well.  Was a fun drive....not!  We are now under a flood warning.  I am still under the weather too, so we didn't make church this morning.  Slept for seven whole hours, which is the longest I think I have slept in quite some time.

Jack, believe it or not, we are on the forefront of medicine.  We gave up on PVC a long time ago!  Only break out the old stuff for visiting Yankees.  Though we have been known to use porcine valve conduit from time to time.

Chief, been a long time since I saw a hockey game live.  Last time was in Columbus, GA.  I was amazed at how they took to hockey in the south.

Well, I gotta go. Have a blessed week ahead.

Bright sun and frosty today,

Well the wifey could not recognize the tattoo on the leg of the passenger on that Gator picture that the Chief posted as me so I got off the hook  Stick out tongue   and BTW she did not know the gun was not loaded.   Whistling   Better luck next time Chief. Laugh

SJ. Sounds good I can smell the bird from here. Dinner

Buckeye I am cautious at best when I say Happy Birthday. What one is it today?? 103 or 43? Happy B-Day

Glad you got some rain Roy,

I am looking for a fan motor from a junk fan driven smoke unit if any of you may have one. I need a motor for a K-Line Plymouth but I think any Lionel fan motor with horizontal screw holes will work. I want to try something.

Got to go, friends coming over later. Then I think I am going to make a day trip to Green Bay Monday.

The van has an old-fashioned dumb non-electronic two barrel carburetor with an old-fashioned vacuum operated non-electronic automatic choke. Should be easy to work on right? Well so far it's got me thinking I should be teaching astrophysics to an ant colony. It might be easier and more rewarding.

Good morning. It's 45° and cloudy. The high will be 62° and it will be partly cloudy.

This morning we have a ten mph north wind and no rain in sight. This morning I have no cars to weather. I do however have an old Tyco Red Box New Haven boxcar that I have no use for and absolutely don't like the looks of. I have an Athearn blue box C&EI double door boxcar body in search of a frame. The Athearn boxcar body is the same length as the Tyco boxcar body. Hmm, I wonder. I may have a rolling C&EI boxcar before the day is out. If I feel up to it today I'll go out and see if I can do some work on the automatic choke on my van.

Konbanwa,

It was a pleasant Sunday for us.  The Princess and I went to church this morning, but the wife stayed home with the boys.  The older son has been a little sick so we decided not to have him around a bunch of other kids.  We lazed around the house the rest of the day and played games and watched movies.  I have some schoolwork to finish and then will be off to bed.

Kev - We considered a trip to Europe around Christmas bud decided to pass.  I was hoping to take the kids to Mt. Fuji tomorrow to do some sledding at one of the lower stations, but we probably will not go if the older son is not 100% better.  I hope your wife calmed down.  You better give her a Right Hug

Happy Birthday Buckeye! Happy B-Day

Chief.......what about the Roseyville Reb's guard dogs?  Don't they get the first shot at putting holes in the bad guy?  They could eliminate all of the hassles of police investigations, obnoxious defense lawyers, inexperienced and overworked District Attornies, trials, convictions, appeals, and the fear of recrimmination, all without wasting one round of ammo. Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI (for those who have not been on the forum and as a refresher, this stands for It IS Another Beautiful Sunny Day In South Eastern Indiana, where the philosophy of life is based on the concept that while anyone can be a US citizen, only a few of us were lucky to be born "Hoosiers" Big Smile ).  Posted Friday afternoon and four pages later on a Saturday night, I am posting again.  We do like to chat here.   Not that there is anything wrong with that.  Wife and I went to see "Ghostrider 2" last night.  Not quite in the same religious vein as what Dennis W. does, but still there was some redemptive qualities as well.  Did housework before going to the movie.  Movie was ok, maybe not as good as the first, but it was entertaining.  Spent Saturday running errands and taking down temporary Standard gauge layout.  The people I used on the layout and other items are much too tempting to the youngest grandchild, who is all of 1 1/2.  Should be some compensating train running as we will be giving daughter a Coca Cola train set, which we had gotten off Amazon for a really good price.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

OMG Chief, regarding "Ripple", is that the wine by the same name?  I remember that stuff from almost 50 years ago.  Went down like soda pop but gave you quite a buzz.  A home owner who had their house offered for sale, plied us with Ripple.  Next thing I knew, I owned the place.  That was my first house.  That was the last time I ever drank Ripple.  Enjoy the hockey game and stay away from the gators with the big mamas on back.

Evening all.  Got the Rec Center all decorated for the Sweet Heart Ball tonight.  I heard that one Yankee on his Gator [we've seen his picture on his Gator that he posted].  Got his formals on and riding the Gator all the way to Roseyville.

Has IL plates on the back. Whistling [hope his wife does not see this photo of him with his GF]

Now to get ready for the shrimp, meatballs, veggies and cupcakes.  More 'heart" food.  Think there may be some "Ripple" for drinking. Wink

OMG Chief why did you go and post that picture of the Gator. Did you forget that my wife has my password to the PC? Surprise

Well I was reading the Pot when she started into the room and I happened to have the camera on the desk. She was yelling something about the guy did not look like me but she thought she recognized the gal on the back and she was mumbling something about not getting anything but a freaking card for valentine’s day. Super Angry

Anyway here is what I saw when she came in the room.  Surprise

Picture removed by demand. Super Angry  Confused  Confused

Well if you never see another post from me guys, guess you know why!  Dead

Enjoy your Ripple Chief!!! Whistling

Kevin.....I would certainly welcome another CTT member for the Cabela's Grand Opening if the Chief is going to attend.

100%  -----  Everyone of my locomotives is running perfect.  Fixed the last traction tire today.  Everything is smoking, blinking, honking, talking, roaring, chugging, whinning, whistling, choking, wheezing, sputtering and squealing as designed.  Years ago I decided to go with TMCC and the worst problem I have is traction tires.  I have leaned not to slam them into reverse. My favorite hockey team is the worst in the NHL.  I have seen better hockey on farm ponds.

Worse than the Hurricanes????  Mayors have box seats for the game Monday night.  Will be the first live hockey game I've seen in years.  I usually stay home.  VIP parking with free food and drink so I'm going. Dinner
