I worked on the metal Varney F3B body this morning. It's flat black with silver-gray trim and the L&A decals have been applied. Athearn blue box powered F7 chassis awaiting a body.Varney metal body, painted and trimmed. Waiting for decals to dry.Chassis and body have been united. Still have some work to do on it, purely cosmetic.

Just bid adieu to the wifey who is off on a trip to White Plains NY, decided driving would be more relaxing and hassle-free than flying and renting a vehicle. I agree. Weather is clear, SRX is AWD, has XM satellite radio, new tires.......just program the NAV, take out toll transponder, and set on cruise. Washed car, checked fluids and tire pressure, packed her goodies for the drive too.
My birthday weekend was great. Family came over Saturday night and ordered takeout from my favorite local place. Everyone could not believe what I ordered as the restaurant has an extensive menu and great food.......and I order a 1/2 pound bacon cheddar jalapeno burger (lettuce and tomato) with seasoned fries, and as an appetizer scallops wrapped in bacon!!!! Got clothing for my B-day, so now I can throw out a few "antique" weathered items (not by Jeffrey) that were filled with holes. and had seen better days years ago. Son gave me a b-day card and wants to take me to Northeast Trains next weekend!!!!!!!! The propaganda machine is bending the course of resistant minds!!! I'll have plastic with me just in case we need it to close a $ gap.
Thank you for your continued prayers. THEY ARE WORKING!!! My buddy was moved from a general room in the hospital to an inpatient rehab facility at another hospital Friday night. He will be their "guest" through next weekend, a ten day program if all goes according to plan. They are working him out pretty good, he is making progress, but he is bored silly and is getting cranky, wants out, hates the restrictions, and just doesn't "get it." No matter. I just agree with the medical staff recommendations and told him he won't be paroled until he hits meets or exceeds the benchmarks they have set for him, including the ones that include being able to do stairs when he gets released home. Ball is in his court!
Later, gang.

Good morning all, not much to report for the last couple of days except cooler weather here Going down to 36 tonight and tomorrow night. 60's in the daytime. I guess this is our winter. Summer will be here next week.
Jon, sorry for your loss and also for Dennis' friend
D Baker, how's it going with the Knotts engine service job? Someone posted some pics of the locos at Knotts on another Forum and one of the Fireman/engineer people was a young looking girl. We had some female engineers on the SP as well. First time I ever heard of one on a steam engine though.

Weather guesser said nothing about rain this morning. I was just outside and felt rain on my skin. Now while I may have been feeling something that wasn't there I also saw rain drops on the windshield of my van.
Aha! Just looked at the weather report again. It's been revised to show a 10% chance of rain. Weather guesser is covering his @$$.
Morning/afternoon all!
Strong southern winds here today - will be 73 and maybe a spotty shower or two. All the recent rains have not contributed any runoff to the local lakes. Coller starting tomorrow when a front comes through.
Thanks Kev - will send you a note.
Busy day today. for those that need them.
Regards, Roy
Busy morning. On cell. Chilly but warming. Kev, come to NC and Dr. Chief will fix that tooth for free. Actually sitting at laundry matt in Wake Forest. Washing and drying a big thick king size comforter. Wifey's Dr's office is open today. Dull.

Good morning. It's 62° and cloudy. The high will be 73° and mostly cloudy. No particular plans for today. Seems like every time I plan to do something something else crops up. So maybe I'll be able to do some work on the layout today.
Aloha . Might get to 40 today! Thank you Gints for making the winter 'bearable' by beating the Pack. DeadeyeDoug, I like it, Laz Jeffrey, your Varney reminds me of some ads in my old copies of Model Builder from the 40s. Varney took out a lot of ads, some photographed by the famous model railroader John Allen. SmBob, my wife won't go on a cruise because she worries about something like that Italian ship. I guess I didn't help taking her out on one in the South China Sea during a typhoon. Jack, there may be a range opening in our town. i was surprised at the number of places out there to shoot. Probably too expensive for me to get into with the 2nd kid entering college this fall. SJ, wow! What beautiful cars! New Marx was sure nice. Jon, my condolences. Kev, good luck on your tooth repair today. Rich, thanks for the info. I wonder if there are fire police in Illinois? Dennis, prayers for your friend's dad. Roy, you do such great work! Looking forward to seeing the layout progress.

Konbanwa,
I had a nice day off today. We relaxed in the morning and went shopping (the wife is feeling better) in the afternoon. I had to pick up the remaining supplies needed for the layout. I did watch the second half of the GB-NYG game this morning as well. I worked on the layout this afternoon/evening and I posted the progress in a thread. It's time for bed now.
I'll say prayers for all of us, especially those grieving and ailing.
SJ - Nice find; those look sharp.
Sayonara,

Good Morning CTT Fans!
Well W**K I think has finally stopped trying to kill me so maybe I can get in some RR fun for a bit...
It's 26F and sunny right now with a chance of a few inches of the White Stuff tonight. Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you lucky enough to have today off as a holiday hope today

Hi GUYZ,
16 here and cold.
KEV, if that is your hut then I'll be out. What a nice hunting lodge. Gee I'll even bring my own beer.
SUBMMBOB, the flintlock is definitly my favorite gun. Love it but hate it to. Had countless deer in front of me during nice days to and gun didn't go off. I have taken 5 deer with this gun but wow it still is fun to shoot. Had to change the frizzen, part that causes the sparks to fly into the pan, but that is it gun shoots great when it goes off. The biggest thing about firing this gun is people flinch when the fine powder goes off, in the pan,a split second before the main charge in barrel. Thats when people miss their target, so you gotta be rock steady. You get use to it.
Stay frosty,
laz57
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cold 28 degrees. Going up to 40 today with sunshine.
Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping and I am working on another project. The usual chores and such. Maybe a nap later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
On account of recent events and the fact that I am a bit of an armchair sailor (yes, I was in the Navy, but I was a Seabee. We don't do ships much) I have decided to provide some maritime historical trivia.
MAJOR PASSENGER SHIP LOSSES
(ranked in order or ship length)
SS Yarmouth Castle - 365'
Date: 1965
Incident: Fire at sea
Cause: Improper storage
MV Prinsendam - 427'
Date: 1980
Cause: Mechanical failure
SS Morro Castle - 508'
Date: 1934
Cause: Unknown
SS Empress of Ireland - 570'
Date: 1914
Incident: Collision w/ another ship
Cause: Fog
SS Andrea Doria - 701'
Date: 1956
Cause: Faulty navigation
SS Lusitania - 787'
Date: 1915
Incident: Torpedoed by submarine
Cause: Act of war
SS Titanic - 882'
Date: 1912
Incident: Collision w/ iceburg
MV Costa Concordia - 952'
Date: 2012
Incident: Struck rocks due to some idiot wanting to wave to his girlfriend(?)
Cause: Outright stupidity
Fortunately, with the exception of the MV Prinsendam where there were no casualties, this most recent accident will probably be the least costly in terms of loss of life. However, the idea that someone would bring a near 1000' ship within a third of it's length of a charted, treacherous coastline w/ 4,200 people on board leaves me speechless.

Great news on your Mom, Bill (8nt) - hope she continues to progress quickly back to good health!
Prayers for all and our loved ones and friends. Seems we have a lot on our plates lately.
SJ - Great find, very nice!
DougM - shooting is fun, but cleaning the guns is a chore for me. My Dad loves to do it, though - he tinkers with his guns all the time.
Jeffrey - good job!
Roy - I have used photobucket without any problems?
Laz - hang in there, maybe next year!
TARDIS is ready, so let's get a move on :)
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all!
Got a lot done on the layout today. All the track wiring complete except for one set of track drops to the track voltage bus. Installed Molex connectors between the layout 4x8 sections to make setup easier. Buds worked on scenary base on new sections and helped with wiring.
Jon - thanks for the Photo Bucket recommendation. I will check it out.
Have a great evening all!
Sunny, wind out of the south and about 50 today.
KRM - I'll agree. The seat of a tractor while plowing snow seems like it is about the coldest place in the world.
Chief - I'm not a big CN fan, I just have enough CN pieces in my collection that I pick up more from time to time, if I find them interesting. All of my stuff is in the newer, non-striped livery.
Noticed a westbound freight going through town with NS power. Kind of unusual, as it is a UP line.
Got word that mom is now taking a few steps at a time, aided by a walker today.
Worked yesterday and today, so my Monday will be more like a Wednesday.
My wife got me involved with an interesting project at the KAYT Depot museum this weekend. They have a small freight scale that was built in the later half of the 19th century. They want to get it operating well enough to use in a new exhibit. It is my job to make it operational. There are a couple of missing pieces in the linkage between the scale platform and the balance beam and the sliding weight on the balance arm is also missing. The links will be easy, the sliding weight will be a little more of a challange.
All for now.
Time for me to call it a night. The work I did on the Varney F3B shell wasn't hard, just time consuming. The hardest thing I did on it was to drill out the portholes. Varney had left them filled in and I just didn't like the look of them. I had a sharp drill bit when I started but I think I need a new one now. That metal is thick! If I was to throw it at someone I'd probably be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The metal frame from the shell didn't go to waste. I used it under a Varney plastic F3B shell. And I got the metal shell painted today. It's now flat black and is awaiting the trim color. I think I'll use silver on this one.See y'all tomorrow.
Hello all
A brisk 27 out tonight. We are in the clouds, frosting up like a TV dinner, and getting some light snow. Looks like there is more to come. Will be a quiet night except that one the the receiver cooling systems is leaking gas so we have to fill it every hour or so. The engineers don't do holidays.
SJ - nice find! Even still has the Minnie Pearl price tag on it!
Jon - sorry for your loss. Check out the White Pass and Yukon if you have the chance in AK. I'd love to see their steam rotary in action.
Jeffrey - nice work on the B units! You have quite the collection of parts there and the know how to use it!
LAZ - never been much into hunting, but black powder sounds interesting. Had a chance to fire one when I was in scouts years ago. I still toy w/ the idea of putting together a Civil War Enfield replica.
Chief & Fife - enjoying the history lessons of the RR's in your area. Still love the N&W though. Anybody that built the Y6B is ok in my book
Kev - nice fireplace! Starting to envy George the cat...
Well my application has been submitted and accepted. Hope to meet w/ the guys in the next week or so. It feels good that this is no longer just talk any more.
Going to clean and oil an old wind up Marx for a friend's son. Been sitting on the Kitchen table for too long.
Good evening guys. Had a very nice church service this evening. Laz, when we pulled down the driveway, we had five deer in our backyard...probably eating my peach trees! All were a good size, I will have to check for antlers in the daylight.
SJ, that was a nice find, congratulations.
One of my friend's father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They operated on him today. While it is a malignant cancer, they got about all of the tumor. He did well, but will need followup care. They will be meeting on Wednesday to decide the best course of action. He is a decorated fighter pilot who retired as a colonel from the air force. Please remember him in your prayers tonight.
Well, I have an early morning case, so I had better get some sleep.
God bless,
Dennis

House is empty 'cept for me. Did some job apps and paperwork for the FD....21F now down to 12F later.. Did some laundry and didn't leave the house...yet. Cold weather ops is not my forte...just like truck ops aren't either.
Doug - Fire Police do the same jobs as regular police, except they perform on the fire grounds. Direct traffic, secure the scene, and can make "arrests" if need be. Usually they are the older guys that cannot perform the regular firefighting duties.

KRM I just ordered a new CSX Bang and the CSX caboose to go with it. A great deal for $114.96 with free shipping but stupid me I forgot to enter the coupon number to get the free shipping. I sent Walter e-mail asking for his forgiveness hope if does. Walter from RMT sent me an e-mail and is going to give me the free shipping…….... I now have the start to my CSX line.

I had a nice hike in the woods this morning around the property. A lot of deer tracks all over and I found a spot where they have been beading down not far from the house. Wind has picked up a lot. Started a fire for George. Have a good night. Kev.
