AFternoon all

Been playing with the kids playing with play doh.  Going to go and cut some grass.  I'm enjoying a Sunday afternoon at home for a change.  Classes for those entering the Church start next week and the contractor is to start the bedroom addition this week, so you might say this is the calm before the storm.  Might be a good afternoon to lay track and play on the floor.

We have one of the original Crespie Cream donut shops in Portsmouth.  When you get them hot from the fryer, they melt in your mouth!  Delicious!!!!!

Continued prayers for Chuck and Paula.

May God bless

Good evening everyone.  Been a good day.  Had plenty of rain from TS Lee....we need it!  Too many wells going dry down here.  Have some reservations to make as we need to head to HotLanta the end of the month for some meeting for the adoption.  While we are there, bride wants to see "Wicked" at the Fox Theater.  It is also our anniversary, so we will make the best of it.

Last night and today, they have been showing the movies our church have made, I guess as a lead up to the release of this latest feature.  What is neat is how much the kids have been wanting to see them.  I would much rather have them see those than most of what else is on TV.  I am on call this coming week, so will head in tomorrow to do rounds...hoping it is quiet.  On Tuesday, we have Josh McDowell speaking at the church and I am on camera.  He will be speaking on parenting....should be a large crowd as it is open to the general public.  We also have a "Refresh" conference coming up the 18th to 21st.  Going to be busy over the next few weeks.

Doug, hope things go well for you to get your meds all figured out.  I know it can take awhile to get everything under control.

Prayers to be lifted for Char, Chuck and Paula.
God Bless,
Dennis

A little cloudy up here on the mountain but not much rain today. Yesterday it rained like a cow peeing on a flat rock. Doing a little preparation for replacing the roof seals in a few weeks. Cutting off and terminating some of the old heat trace cable.

Just walked up to the LBT to see if there was any info on a friend up there. He took a fall from the top of a steep stairway yesterday and had to be airlifted back to Tucson. Guess he is stable, but they are still deciding if they will need to do surgery.

Just got word that I am now the proud owner of a motorcycle. Was just dropped off today. As with all my acquisitions it needs some work but was too good a deal to refuse.

Thoughts and prayers for Chuck and others.

Good evening all,

It was rainy all day in SE Indiana.  Daughter called and said she and husband not feeling well.  With the weather iffy as well, did not go to Bloomington.  Worked on Standard gauge stuff at home.  Oiled and lubed MTH 384E and associated cars.  Ran them for a while.  Oiled and lubed the Lionel Classics 384E I got this spring.  Had not run it since I purchased it.  E-unit was a little finicky at first, but smoothed out.  Got the companion cars out as well (including the new acquisitions) and ran those as well.  E-unit does not buzz, and it does not pull as many cars as the MTH version.  It only has a whistle and headlight, but any standard gauge is good.  Listened to Indy car on the net.  Vitor got a ninth for AJ.  Swiss Miss lead a lap, but got caught out on fuel strategy for 12th.  Princess managed a 6th by avoiding trouble, which unfortunately had snagged Vitor.  AJ's team still in top in road course points and overall top ten is still in range.Overall, nice quiet day.  Perhaps one I needed.  Prayers for all who need them.  I had cinnamon rolls on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive again.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening all,

I had a nice 6-mile run this morning.  A cold front came through so it was a very nice 72 degrees when I went for the run.  The FIL and I detailed the interior of the van since we will be selling it soon.  He will take care of the outside after my wife takes me to the airport on Tuesday.  The wife, 1 y/o son, and I had dinner at the Outback and then we did some shopping.  Afterwards, my wife made an apple cobbler – delicious.  The older kids are watching Star Wars now before turning in for the night.  The Yankees won today and the Sox lost – it was a great day. Big Smile

Dennis – I received your message, thanks.  I sent you a reply as well.

AF Ray, Brutus, Laz, dougdagrump, John Bakeer, Rich, Jim SP – I have eaten donuts all over this country and in many others (although they might not be called donuts across the pond), and Krispy Kreme makes the best ones by far.  I don’t own their stock in any of my mutual funds or my Roth IRA so I don’t worry about the SEC violations; I just enjoy those fantastic donuts.  Jim SP said it best: “When you get them hot from the fryer, they melt in your mouth!  Delicious!!!!!

Jack – These profession military education courses can be difficult, but the only people I ever saw not graduate are people who cheat or misbehave during the course.  I am very certain I will not be doing either one of those. Angel

I hope my trains are doing well on their voyage Snail to Japan.

Chuck is still in my prayers.

Good night,

Joe

Prayers for Chuck and for us all and our intentions.

Gnite/morning guys.  Well, today turned into an adventure!  Went over to sister's for lunch and the plans changed to going downtown to Pappy's BBQ, which just won some kind of national award.  My sis and I go there for lunch about once a month or so - it's great.  We always go just before they open, so there isn't much line.  I guess the word was out.  There were 10 of us all together and we stood in line for about 2 hours to get our food ordered - geez!  I told one guy - Come to Pappy's for lunch and you'll stay for supper!  That got a big laugh.  Finally went to my folks' house and had brownies and banilla, and got home really late.  I missed the TARDIS, but I"m sure Mike can use the wayback circuit and come get me now!  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Flash flood watch in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Figures, a storm named LEE would be invading the north Dots - Sign  At least we got to go sailing yesterday.  Slow on a wing-to-wing run, yet jack-rabbit fast on a close reach tack...go figure.  Ended up at my favorite Pirate lair for eat-em-ups. Dinner

Oldest princess attended Grand Prix race (her 1st of any kind) and loved it.  NASCAR race was postponed.  Ironed my monkey suit for the upcoming week, then shot a few games of 8-ball in the man cave.

Happy Labor Day to all of you expecting mothers.  I shall be cooking on the grill between the raindrops.

Morning all!

Spent a good part of the day yesterday at the local "first Monday trade days" in Canton TX. The wind was blowing as the front was coming through and kept temps down to 95. This morning it was high 60's and currently it is 75 and a high today of 85. 80's for the rest of the week. We have the TS Lee to thank. That nice low pressure zone dragged the cool air down. The bad news is it is very dry here. We are 9 inches shy on rain. House is moving and we now have two cracked tiles in the kitchen (retiled in 2008). Not good. Cannot poor enough water on the foundation to keep the ground saturated and keep it from moving/subsiding and we have water use restrictions to boot.

Fife - the Baltimore race was a good one although I do not like street races in general - no passing and all strategy is pit stops and avoiding wrecks. That is not really racing.

Prayers for Chuck, Char, and those in need.

Have a great Labor Day all!

Regards, Roy

Morning All !

Happy Labor Day to all, hope everyone has a great day!

Looking forward to a complete day off, possibly get involved in a couple of minor chores.  InLaws coming over for a BBQ early this PM.  Chris and FIL going to go to Angel game this evening.  It was Chris' idea to do something with Grandpa.  So letting them have some "special" time together.  Don't mean to keep bragging on him, but he just came downstairs dressed, and with backpack.  Asked where he was going and said he wanted to go to school and do some work in the Lab.  The students in his department have keys to the Labs and certain classrooms and are welcome to come in and work at their leisure.  (I think the "key responsibility" definitely has contributed to motivation.)

Last night noticed that the 30' foot flagpole in the backyard seemed peculiar, checked it out and found the bottom of it has rusted and cracked.  So pulled it out and now have another project.  Originally, dug proabbly a good 3 to 4 foot hole, filled a 5 gallon bucket with cement and 3' diam pipe about 4 1/2 foot.  Then flag pole inserted in 3" pipe.  Of course the flag pole broke off about 8" from the top of the pipe, now have to figure out how to get the rest of the flagpole out of the bottom pipe.  It sure is jammed in don't remember how.

We actually had some rain yesterday pm and this morning!  Might end up in train room today installing some traffic lights.

BTW, Wifes foot is pretty much better now, she ended up in a boot for about 6 weeks, and seems to be fine. :)

SPMAN - Still would like to see about some modifications to make things easier, we need to talk about that.

Have any of you guys browsed DIY forums or website?  Has a lot of information information for Do-It_ Yourselfers,  Found it quite interesting.

Need to go get the patio cleaned up,   Take care !!!

ROY,

I use the Schluter Ditra system for my tile in my addition and kitchen.  It is expensive but will prevent your tiles from popping.  I have had this down for a year and no popped tiles, problem is you have to have it installed before you put your tiles down.  Anyway if you do decide to replace your floor here is a link to this system.

Happy Labor day all,

Got some precooked baby back pork ribs to warm up today from Tony Roma's.  Got some corn, potato salad and baked beans for the trimming.  Aiming for a late lunch/early dinner.  We'll see how it goes.

D. Baker,  thank you for your reminder about getting together to do some imagineering on the layout controls.  I've just been waiting for the weather to cool down a little in order to work in there in the day time.  As it is now, I only go in there in the morning.  Afternoon and night is too hot.

Sounds like your son has taken a liking to his studies.  Good for him.  Nothing wrong with feeling proud about that.  I am proud of my grandson too who just entered high school this year with an outstanding record in grade school.  If I had been more like him in school, I might have done a few more things in life but I can't complain.  I did most of the things I wanted to do or else I"m getting too old to care.  anymore.   Talk to you later,

Ray

Greetings Ya'll From Hazy Taxachusetts,

Angel Continued prayers for Chuck and Paula.  Like Laz, I can't get Blueberry off my mind.  Also, continued prayers for DougDG's continued progress, Brutus' Char too, and RaySP's cranky muscles.  I'd include Fife in here, but he seems to be having far too much fun in his recovery.

Not a bad day outside but a very humid 81.  Like Laz, we are supposed to get rain all week with cooler temperatures.  Grilled chops on the grill last night and served them up with a garden salad, sweet corn, mashed with pork gravy, and fresh french bread.  Sadly, the shrimp cocktail had to be thrown out.........seems you can't keep frozen shrimp as long as I had thought.  Bang Head  I had a fresh Tiramisu ready for dessert, but the Wifey said she felt like ice cream......so out I went to secure.  Bang HeadBang Head

DonB.........personally, I love it when we as parents can brag on our kids.  Kudos on your Chris.  He must take after your wife.  Big Smile

Fife........10 "voyages" so far isn't a bad Summer sailing overall when you are trying to get in your time out on the water between those pesky work responsibilities and marine forecasts that don't cooperate. Pirate

JimmyT........I always wound up getting assigned to participate in special projects NOT in my area of responsibility or expertise.  Due diligence for prospective acquisitions were the worst.  Nothing was ever taken off my plate to make room for these, made for 16 hour days.  Cheer up!  It beats the alternative and will pay off one way or another.  Thumbs Up

DougDG.........great news that the meds adjustment has things moving in the right direction for you.  Patience is the order of the day.

JohnBakeer.......I am really glad to see you have been able to post more regularly to the Pot.  You must have figured out what was getting in your way from a technical standpoint.  BTW......re Krispy Kreme donuts, if you eat enough of something that is sinfully delicious bit "looks revolting" your mind will adapt!!!  Wink

Rich........is the motorcycle you were referring to the same Harley that gave you mysterious mechanical fits a while back?  Sounds like you won the battle of wills, yours versus the machine.  Smile, Wink & Grin  Wasn't the problem something simple and electrical (ignition related)?

SubBob..........so, what kind of motorcycle did you acquire?  You didn't supply any details.

Laz.............you and I are on the same wavelength as I too watched both Last of the Mohicans and Man In The Wilderness yesterday!!!  Richard Harris in the latter looked much like Brent after he plays with his power tools and ladders.  Laugh

Roy.........drought and cracking foundations, etc.  That must be downright discouraging.  What else can you do?

Gotta run and rustle up something to grill for dinner!!!!!  Dinner  Later, gang!!!!!!!  Hope everyone is having a relaxing Labor day weekend 2011.

Jack,

Considering the alternative, I realize that I am lucky to have a job.  As long as I am getting paid, that's all I care.

Fife,

That's it.  After reading your post, I've got the urge to clean the pool table off.  I used to play regularly, but some of the the PW Lionel and AF that I've bought within the past year have been sitting on towels on the pool table.

Raining and more rain in the forecast.  Pat may be due a flood in those VA hills.  Us at Kerr Lake hope so as the idiot Corps has dumped tons of water from our lake.

Glad to see Bob is doing good.  Keep up the good work.

Krispy Kreme [the original great donut from Winston Salem NC].  Better than those Yankee cake things you all call donuts.

Prayers for Chuck and Char.  Dougsnotagrump, glad all is doing good.

Shake and Bake, you say you did a bar-be-que.  That means you cooked PORK on a grill or coals and coated it with some type of bar-be-que sauce.  Cooking on a grill with anything else is GRILLING.

We cooked PORK ribs, Pork tenderloin and beef brisket on my big charcoal cooker.  Had Pam's family, Fred and wifey and some lake neighbors over.  Pam's BIL cooked them.  Folks raved and raved over it all but especially the ribs.

Now to settle in at home for a few days.  Busy week with meetings.

Evenin' All.

Important business first, continued prayers for all in need especially Chuck & Paula.

Weird weather here today, no sun with rain off & on and the humidity sucks. Us Californians ain't used to this stuff, at least it didn't get much over 80*.

Putzed with the trains a bit trying to figure out what I'll be taking to the museum friday. Looks as though one of my Atlas SD35's will need to go in for some repair work. Definitely needs P/U roller(s) and possibly a volume control pot or speaker replacement/repair.

Completely off diuretic and potassium chl now so if that goes well the cardiologist will work on the other drugs to help the ticker. Actually had enuff energy to do some work on the yard yesterday, felt good. Of course SWMBO was watching like a hawk as to what I was doing and how long I was out there.

Happened to turn on a college football game, Miami v. Maryland. Who designed those uni's for the Terrapins ? Better yet, what were they taking/smoking ? Laugh

Good evening all,

It was cloudy and cool in SE Indiana.  Washed all three vehicles today.  Tired.  Had bran muffins this morning on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  Fighting a sore throat.  My soccer league starts tomorrow night and once again I just know one player on the team.  WIll have a different color shirt this time.  It will be a novelty for that alone.  Long week ahead at work.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Prayers out for Chuck, all our loved ones and friends, and our intentions.

Nice weather in Saint Louis today - no rain and it didn't get hot out.  I picked up Char and the kids at the Kirkwood Station and then took my son up to the store to get a new videogame, but it doesn't come out until Midnight.  Oh well, might be able to pick it up tomorrow or this weekend?  I had taken a train book to read while waiting for the train, but it was right on time, so I didn't get to read it Smile

Storms rolled through Saturday night.  Temperature dropped into the very pleasant 70's yesterday and today.

Picked up and re-set about 8 feet of brick walk yesterday.  Looks so good, my wife wants me to do the other 40 feet now.  Goody.

Pole saws - I have one of the combined manual saw, clipper types on a fiberglass handle.  Has about a 16' reach.  Like others have said - once you get all of the limbs pruned off that are in reach, the saw is a dust collecter.

Took care of a wind damaged limb with mine yesterday.  Had to put the ladder on the tree trunk and climb up probably 4 to 5 feet to reach the damaged limb.  All went well until the limb pinched the saw and pulled it out of my hands when it fell!  No worries.  Unlike some of the folks on this forum, I was able to stay on the ladder and both the saw and limb missed me on the way down.  Had to hammer the kink out of the saw blade, though.

Prayers for healing.  There are several that need them.

Brutus - I am going to be through St Louis in October.  Is The Electric Train Outlet store worth a stop and look around?

Back to keeping SS solvent tomorrow.  With Laz going on the lamb at the end of the school year, it needs all the help it can get.

All for now.
