Just got back from my nephews graduation party at HudsonJohn's house and I was treated to a present from Traindood! Thanks! It's two 8x10 pictures of a game at Yankees stadium he went to in late 1978 or early 1979. One of Reggie Jackson on deck and the other of my favorite player (really second favorite to the Mick) Thurman Munson behind the plate during the national anthem. He had great seats, probably box, as the shots were field level. Traindood, I believe deep down inside, way down, you're a closet yankee fan.

You're the best,

Hello everyone.  Well, I am finally home.  Was a very long week as I was at a meeting that started at 0630 and lasted till past 1600 every day.  As you can guess from one of my prior posts, it included some anesthesia content.  Meeting ended today and we just got home...after picking up the dog from the vet's.  A little clue for Fife, to see if you can guess before scrolling down:

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1d807b3127ccefd20435d33b400000030O01AauXDhk3ZMQe3nwg/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/

It was a great time.  Learned some neat tricks to augment our practice, and met up with some folks whom I used to work with many moons ago.  On our way home, had a police car fly by us and then came across a accident where the fire fighters were cutting a person out of a car.  Ah, it is good to be home.

OK, with regard to the photo, we were in Hilton Head South Carolina.  The sail boat in the photo is of the Stars and Stripes from the America's Cup awhile back.  They actually had 4 of them I hear and this one has been sold to be used for paid adventures out on the ocean.

Well, I had better get going, but I do hope that everyone has a great night.  I will try to talk trains soon.
God Bless,
Dennis

Ray, Munson was my favorite player too.  Remember that shot of him with blood dripping from his face when He held the plate with a player trying to slide into home....he took spikes to the face and held the ball!  Really sad that he was cut down with so many years left to a great career.  It is great to see others who liked Munson.

Dennis - He was tuff in an era when you took a hit and got back up. I was lucky enough to be able to go to the game the day after he died. Not a dry eye in the house, a ten minute ovation to start the game with a moment of silence, it was anything but that. To this day I wear his uniform or shirt to every game.

Good evening all,

It was cloudy today in SE Indiana.  Busy weekend.  Moved some of Lucas's stuff Friday night.  Went down to Bloomington Saturday morning to help daughter with yardwork.  Came home that afternoon to mow dad's yard and finished the evening by doing part of our own yard.  Stayed up to listen to Indycar race.  Marco won so at least Team Red did not.  AJ's team had bad luck again.  Swiss Miss was MIA due to concussion from week before.  SFR did ok, sort of.  Sunday watched F-1 race.  Vettel won again.  Moved some more stuff from dad's.  Two more items left.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,

Quiet day here, went to early church, then breakfast, then a visit with the FIL.  Was pretty good today, knew both of us, but didn't know another church member that stopped in to see him.

Got out a Lionel PRR M1a that I bought used a couple of years ago and put it on the layout.  It was run at Barry's shop when I bought it but I had not taken it out of the box since.  It seems to be running fine.  I have been running it light with no train.  Will decide what to pull with it tomorrow.  It has TMCC and Legacy speed control, but only Rail sounds 4.0 as it was built, I think, in 2003.  I think this is the last engine that I had that I have never run.  Still got quite a few freight cars in the box.

Need to take the granddaughter's car to the shop tomorrow for L-O-F and have some work done on the front end suspension.  It is her one day off from school and so grandpa will take it in while she snoozes.

All have a great week.

Howdy guys - hot and muggy in Saint Louis.  We had some fast storms come through today with hard rain, big winds, thunder and lightning.  ANother tree came down, but it was way up the street from us, like 500 feet maybe.  Another Bradford Pear.  Those things are like glass, just shatter.  This was another big one, but older and bigger than the one that the neighbor had next to my house before.

SP - prayers for your friend with cancer.

Continued prayers for Dougsnotagrump.

Well, worked on the basement for about 4.5 hours today.  I tied down the pipes so they won't knock, which took some shimming here and there, using J-hooks and zip ties.  I put in a connection and elbow with a stub (PVC) to the drain for the sink.  I cut off the caps on the supply lines for the sink so I could replace them with threaded pieces, but can't find my flux brushes I bought?  I'll have to get another bag of them.  Then I insulated all that wall except for where I still need to do those two solder jobs for threaded ends.  So I basically have about 1/2 hour of work left to do before I can put up drywall on two short walls (1 piece each) and a long wall (2.5 pieces should do that one).  Another step closer to a layout Thumbs Up  I also cleaned up some mess that had been accumulating and put all my plumbing stuff in one place so I can find it all later.

I need to next put in the lighted vent and wire the switches and outlet and connect back at the load center.  I have the supply wires already in place though, so that will be an afternoon job.  We need to pick up a shower encloser and base, 36 x 36, plus a drain for the shower.  Then the bathroom will be done and ready to tape and mud Smile

Nice chats tonight with Jeffrey, RT, SJ and Charlie - we have banilla and Klondike bars for the TARDIS ride later.  Let's go guys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

I hope everyone had a great Sunday.  We went to church and then the wife and kids went to visit the wife's parents. They will return tomorrow so I had the entire day to myself.  I watched The Great Train Robbery and then ran trains - go figure.

The BIG NEWS for me: The Air Force has decided I have lived in Enid, OK, long enough (2 years, 4 months) and I need to leave. Therefore, the Air Force has told me to report to Yokota AB, Japan, by the end of October.  The family and I are very excited; we enjoy seeing new things.  I have only passed through Japan once or twice but never lived there.  The base is near Tokyo so it should be an exciting time.  On a sadder note, I will have to dismantle the layout.  I posted some night shots to today's Sunday Photo Fun which will be the last photos of this layout.  We will not have enough room in Japan to rebuild this layout so I will build a shelf layout in our 7y/o son's room.  I will be stealing ideas from RT for that project.  I will also have to put many of the buildings and accessories into storage as I will not have anywhere to store them out there; however, the trains and track will come along.

Dougagrump - I'm glad all is going well.  I'll pray you adjust to the life changes well.

AF Ray - I knew Traindood was a closet fan; he was just angry before because the Yankees weren't in first place, but they are now.

Good night,

Joe

Late evening all!

So busy no time to keep up with postings.

Hot here and 99/100 for next week.

DougnottaG - great news! As the guz say - do what they tell ya!

Joe - wow - that is a big move and should be great fun! Hopefully you will keep in touch and we will get the view from Japan!

Checked with Justrains on the Vision Hudson and Shawn said they are at the distributor and he is waiting shipment - so soon hopefully! While looking at their website also found a scale K-Line Hudson that I missed years ago and are now quite hard to find. Shawn had gotten it on consignment and I was in the right place at the right time - so it will be on its way next week!

Headed out tomorrow for son's college visits trip. Back Tues night!

Have a great day tomorrow all!

Regards, Roy

Sunny, low 90's with humidity to match.

DDG - glad to hear of your progress.  Behave, and do what the nice young nurses tell you to do.

Dug the sash out of one of the kitchen windows to remove the glass, refinish and reglaze.  This is nice basement work for to do in the summer months.  Ran the string trimmer around the yard for fun too.  Got replacement windows for the attic ordered today.  About a month away.  I'm planning on mounting fans to keep air moving in the attic, hoping to cool it off some.

I've got a battle going with creeping Charlie in my lawn.  Weed killer in the spring slowed it down, I'm discouraging it during the hot months by pulling it by hand, and plan to zap it agian with weed killer in the fall.  Anybody else have a similar battle going?

Got pieces parts ordered for my EMD generator car at the LHS Saturday.  Hopefully, delivery won't be months.

All for now.

Good morning all,

It is supposed to be rainy again in SE Indiana.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Women's World Cup started yesterday.  US plays North Korea in their first game on Tuesday.  Will be a close one.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 69 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Did laundry, worked in the garden, and cooked steaks on the grill yesterday.  Taking youngest princess to eye doc this am...seems that square framed glasses are all the rage in 4th grade...

Demay - Wow, what an adventure!  Tokyo, I suspect, is a bit more exotic than Enid...and probably safer (crime wise).  Just keep an eye out for over-sized lizards...

dwiemer - I remember all the coverage the America's Cup received on the nightly news back in the 80's.  Now it doesn't even get a mention on ESPN.  Speedy, oversized, and imho ugly multi-hulls are what they race today.  Connor isn't that tan, suave, captain anymore.  He does make the trade magazines once in awhile, and paints in Sandy Eggo.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a clear and sunny 70 degrees. Going up to 82 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have a few errands to run and the usual chores to do. Need to spend some time outside weeding the tomato plants. Maybe a nap under the shade tree, would be nice.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Hi GUYZ,

58 here and was foggy at 540 this morning.  I did a nice 5 miler today and low and behold I found a new crisp 5 dollar bill.  Who said running don't pay?  Found it by the Little League feild where they had a nite game last nite.  Lucky me.

Today I might take down all my beer cans, along with my BROs too.  I have about a whole pick up trucks worth between the both of us and at 70 cents a pound thats a few more bucks.  Then I gotta get new drive belt for tractor.

Gotta go lift.

Stay frosty and watch your topknot,

Joe go for shelf layout. My only question is when we do hear from you will we need to use our interpreter system on the computer to understand youWhistling Hope you enjoy it there. Hope they run on same power as we do as I know Europe is different. And they have to get transformers or something to get the 60 cycles (I think) that we use. Any way sounds like an exciting adventure coming your way. Keep in touch with us.

Morning all not a lot going on just relaxing. Hope all having a good Monday talk to you all later.

Good morning all,

Thanks for all well wishes about our move to Japan.  We believe it is going to be an awesome experience for us.  My wife has been doing extensive research on all the new things we will get to see.  I will definitely remain part of this forum and I may even have to start the new pots with some sushi and rice; I will be a day ahead of you all then.  I briefly looked at some Japanese modeling sights and they have many neat looking items, but not too much in the O gauge/scale area.  I'm sure once I get out there I will find a club or two to interact with.

RT - I am excited about building a shelf layout in our 7y/o son's bedroom.  Initially I did not think I would bring any of the structures I have, but now I am thinking the corner's of the room will be a good place for a few of them, especially the operating switch tower.  I will have a better idea when we get out there in a few months.  And don't worry, you won't need an interpreter.

It's time to get back to contributing to Chief's SS paycheck.

Good day,

Joe

Lunch Time,

We had a great day for my son's party. I also scored a Lionel 221 for a price that AF53 said that I should go to jail for.

Traindood, Ken, the pics were great. I remember when the Dodgers left for LA. The talk then is that they should have left the name "Dodgers" here, because the name cam from dodging the trollies and subways.

DougDaGrump: Great news. Keep it up.

JEFElectric, John, that is another Grandpa job. I am sure that she appreciates it.

Demay, Joe, Good luck with the move and I am sure that your family will love the adventure.

Roy, The K Line Huson is a great choice.

SPMan, Ray prayers for you cancer victim friend. My she recover and enjoy her life.

Laz, I hope that your drive belt change is easier than mine on my John Deere. It was almost a day job.

Brutus, Good luck with the remodel.

Prayers and thoughts for all in need.

Good morning all,

Went for good walk again this morning in the park.  We see the dog parade every morning when their owners are out walking them.

Dentist tomorrow and orthopaedic doctor on Wednesday.

Bad news last night.  An old neighbor from our first house when our kids were small many years ago has passed away.  Her son called us last night about the funeral to be on Friday I think.  This lady suffered for many years with very crippling arthritis.  I hope the Lord reserves a special spot for her in heaven.  She has paid her dues down here.  God bless.

Got a surprise this morning.  Neighbor down the block delivered a box of chocolates, some artificial water for my layout and a very nice thank you note from his girl friend.  They came over to see my train layout a few days ago and were very appreciative.  I told him to tell her to come back anytime.  Very nice people.  She has some HO trains and said she got inspired to finish her own layout now.

Doug Da, continued prayers for youAngel  Hope you are feeling better now.

Have a good week,

Ray

Good afternoon everyone.  Getting back into the swing of things here.  Back is a bit twisted from all that driving and the long days of sitting in lectures.  Wife is out with the kids doing some shopping and getting lunch.  I went in earlier, but am done.  They thought they were going to have a emergency case for us to do, but the patient died at the hospital that was going to transfer to our facility.  Happens like that from time to time.  For whatever reason, either waiting till things are too advanced before going to the emergency room, or just having a very bad condition that they are in the wrong place and can't get help quick enough.  We are in a very rural area, so we see it all too often.

Roy, I would love to have reported for myself the good news you have coming your way.  Both of those will be on my "Bucket List" of things I need to add to my collection.  Congratulations, I look forward to photos and a full report when you get them under power!  Good Luck.

Joe, I know we have said it here a number of times, but thanks for your service.  While it may be exciting, it is also a stress on the military families who have to take temporary residence at any number of places for a few years at a time and always have the deployment issue held over your head.  I wish you well and that you and your whole family will have a safe trip and a enjoyable time over there.  You can be Salt and Light in a region in darkness.  I will see if I can get you a DVD of our latest movie once we get them pressed.  God Bless Sir.

Hope each of you has a great day,
Dennis

Aloha. Turning out to be a cloudy muggy day. Stayed home to drive half-way across Chicago to get the insurance check for the car. Have a sense of some of the smaller SUVs out there, Now to see who wants to sell one to me. Big Smile  That's a nice base in Japan, Joe. I've a few friends out that way.  Dennis and Fife, I've been on that former America's cup racer  from HHI, they've essentially hollowed it out to give rides. Stars and Stripes still very fast!  8n, what is creeping Charlie? Clover?

Greetings Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

The spat of overcast days and rains finally moved off late Saturday and the temperatures have moved into the 70s.

Joe.....I wish you and your family the best on your new assignment in Japan.  Like Dennis and the rest of us, I am  grateful for your service.  Of course, you will still be with all of us here on the Pot.  But I suspect you will be very busy until you move and get settled.

DougM........there are a lot of exceptional smaller SUVs and crossovers out there.

RaySP.........you are really making progress.  How do you do it?

Doug,

If you are looking at smaller SUVs. take a look at an Escape.  My dad has an 02, and it is really nice.  It is big enough, but easy to get right in and drive without having that Greyhound bus feel that most bigger SUVs have.  Build quality is great.  If they were cheaper, I'd be looking for one for winter.

Joe,

Good luck with the move.Smile  Thanks for your service.

I spent yesterday removing the headliner from the Probe to track down a leak that has existed for 6+ years during heavy rain.  Suprisingly, there were absolutely no signs of rust, and all I found was a plugged sunroof drain line.Thumbs Up  I have it mostly cleared, but I need to dig deeper next weekend when I have more time.

Got down to the basement last night and ran my 1949 2020 that I rebuilt a few years ago.  I really prefer it over the 681 from the following year.  The 2020 runs smoother, quieter, and puffs better.

Evening all!

JoeD - Exciting times ahead for you and your family! Hope it all goes smooth. Of course the best part of this forum is you're never too far from home here with us! Maybe it will provide you with some "normalcy"!

HudsonJohn - I guess now that you stole that 221 I guess I need to get a 350 Royal Blue. SJ and Jim would like that. Or better yet, get a 556? The 0 guage 3/16 scale version?

Chuck & SJ - Your teams sure are making that division interesting. I would say never count out the Twins, but this year I think you can.

Later
