Afternoon all!

Sunny and windy as previously reported. Son mowed lawn yesterday without being asked.

Indy 500 shaping up to be an interesting one although I do not understand their restarts. They start racing well before the start/finish line (started before turn 3 after the 4th caution and were passing each other) where NASCAR have a line painted on the apron (usually at the end of the last turn before the start/finish) that they have to hold formation before they can speed up and then no one is allowed to pass until after they cross the start/finish. Maybe Mike C knows the answer.

Will be firing up the grill tonight - NASCAR on tap.

Good afternoon all,

Had next door neighbor kids over to see trains yesterday along with thier parents.  i think the Mom and Dad had more fun than the kids but it was fun for all.  Had a couple of near misses but no wrecks.  Kids were the most well behaved 6 and 7 year olds I have seen.  The mom does musical theatre and when she saw the Santa Fe 4-8-4 running she started singing and doing the bit from "Harvey Girls" where Judy Garland sings "The Atchison Topeka and the Santa Fe".

D.Baker, hope you don't take any flack about the logos to heart.

Brutus, Don't have the Tardis logo but I don't have a problem with it either.  I will be happy to hitch a ride on it once in a while like I have in the past.

Buckeye, thanks for the Forum history lesson.  I think I was around four years ago but I don't think I was posting much.  From what I have heard, Chief did a lot to get things going on an otherwise bland website at the time.

Have a great weekend all,

Ray

Good evening

Big news of the day was the large storm that moved across the state this afternoon. The local stations told of its coming for 2 hours. I'm happy to say that when it reached here it had broken up and went north and south of us. Banilla is waiting for Brutus and the thingy crew. Oh heck I'll toss in some A & W too..S.J.

Howdy guys - sunny and warm in Saint Louis today.  I put in a few hours on my plumbing project.  All done except for one detail - one of the previously placed elbows was turned just a bit off plumb and so I couldn't get it to connect to an additional run of pipe Bang Head  I tried to remove the old elbow, but that didn't go too well, so I stepped back and cut off a length of the pipe that was previously installed and made a new filler piece & etc.  Of course, then I was out of flux, so I called it a day Cowboy  We had some lovely BBQ, which I did not cook, and now we are watching the 3rd Pirate movie.  We too hope to go see the new "prequel" movie tomorrow - it's actually based on a book I read like 25 years ago, which was the inspiration for the movie series.

TARDIS is ready and we have beacons on the scope, so the spinning blue thingie (as SJ calls it) will be along shortly Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening.

The Charlotte NASCAR race proved to be a good one. Jr almost won - needed another 1/2 gallon of fuel.

RT - definitely will be insuring it. I did not like the way they put it to me and packing this thing up for no damage in transit will be a real pain.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the high 80s.  It was a great day at the track as TEAM RED was soundly defeated and a small team (Bryan Herta Autosports) won on the last turn on the last lap.  As great as their joy, the pain for Panther Racing in yet another second place was tremendous.  As for more important matters, the Foyt team had a terrible day as a possible top 10 went down the drain with a horrible set of pitstops.  Ed Carpenter led for 3 laps and was in contention for a top 10 but it went away toward the end.  Swiss Miss tagged the wall early and dropped out.  At least "Chippie and Roger" did not win and for that I am grateful.  My daughter and I bonded before and during the race as we shared memories of my dad.  Came home and watched the race again.  It was a long day, but a good day.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Happy Memorial Day boys!  Gonna be a hot one today.  Gonna be a hot week.  Ok by me.  Off to the pyull later on.  Wifey and I did have a nice time in Annapolis.  Picked up a set of 4 dock lines at a flea market (almost half of what WM would sell for).  Nice dinner at Pusser's, then some trinket shopping.  Sour note; Annapolis wants you to park at the stadium and take the shuttle, so we did.  Then they left us stranded on Main St for a full hour. Bang Head  We gave up and walked back, only to have the shuttle pass us as we neared the parking lot.  Lesson learned.

Best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.  My family is coming over for a (much smaller scale) resumption of yesterday's post First Communion cookout at our place;  I hope to stop the festivities to ask for a moment of silence and prayer for our service men and women, past and present, and their families, for the sacrifices they have made so that we could be enjoying this day.  Brutus.....please thank your Dad for including me with some memorable reminders that included many poignant observations this Memorial day weekend.

JoeyD.....your daughter's performing "hurt" when she was injured and not at her best says a lot about her character and that of her parents at a very young age.  A lesser person, adult or otherwise, might have taken a pass, afraid that they would embarrass themselves in front of a large audience.  She let no one down, especially herself.  So many of us, myself included sometimes, overworry about perfection when it is the effort that counts the most.  You and your wife must be so very proud of her, and it probably took a lot of restraint on your part to let her decide for herself whether or not tp perform.

I am about a zillion posts behind, so it is time to do some reading before things get chaotic again.

Happy Memorial Day!

I know it's easy to remember our fallen service members from the WWII and even our current wars, but we sometimes forget those who served in Korea and Vietnam.  Let's all take time to remember all who gave their lives and also the ones who died on active duty but not necessarily combat.

It is going to be very warm but is crazy windy again.  It was the same way yesterday.  We had company over for dinner so I did not have time to post yesterday.  The company was a couple from church and their pregnant daughter.  The daughter and her husband do not have much so we gave them some baby items we no longer need.

We plan to have a nice relaxing day and will probably have hot dogs on the grill.  I will have to work for a little while this afternoon: I have a guy coming in today who will fill in for me for the rest of the week since I will be on a mini-vacation to PA.  I need to show him around the base.  I hope to make it to another Junior College World Series game this evening after it cools down.

Jack - Our daughter definitely makes us proud.  Quitting was not option in her mind and we're glad she has that mentality at 9y/o.

Good day,

Joe

80 and going to the low 90's today at exit 77 on the GSP.

Too hot for this time of year but........

It always seened ironic to me to say or hear "Happy Memorial Day" but, enjoy the day of rememberance everyone.

Decided on a new grill yesterday and didn't spend much on it. My old one was a gift from the kids a while back and probably cost some $250. I may regret buying a smaller less expensive one but I'm giving it a try and weight this decision for my next purchase.

Dinner and a movie turned out great and Godfather Part II is on order for next weekend.

Fifedog - It was fun going over all the catchphrases that movie gave us in the 70's with the kids. They all enjoyed it and even thought it was 3 hours or so want to see part 2 next week and thats a little longer.

Joe - The Yanks finally played an easy game yesterday and with the help of SJ's team beating Jack's teams we should be tied tonight (let's hope).

Buckeye - Thanks for the history lesson. Things are falling into place more and more now.

RT - Nice job helping the Vets, and thanks for your service and to all the other Potter's here who are and who have served.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  It is HOT, HOT, HOT!  RI52, I am glad you liked the race commentary.   Dennis W., I am not quite sure how the restarts were supposed to work, but I do get the impression the drivers did all they could to avoid as much contact as possible.  The jury is still out on that one.  The prerace ceremonies were awesome as well.  They had several former race winners cirlce the track and they brought many of the former winning cars out of the museum.  It was fun explaining to some fans nearby the significance and time of the various cars.   All the traditions that went on.  Taps was particularly poignant this year.  Jim Nabors did not leave a dry eye in the house.  Al Unser, Jr. said it best one time in Victory Lane, "You just do not know what Indy means".  Even the last lap drama epitomized all that could be contained at Indy. As much as I felt bad for the rookie, I have nothing but respect for Dan Wheldon.  He is a person who truly loves and respects the speedway.  I hope you all have a great day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Buckeye, OK, I get it.  You mean it was actually boring.  Sounds like the Chief changed that.  I was surprised that he went all the way to Ohio to "check you out".  I have a friend from Ohio but he was so close to West Virginia, I don't know how much of it rubbed off on him.  He grew up in a little town called Martins Ferry across the river from Wheeling W.V. I think.  My friend was in the circus when he was young and was part of the famous Wallenda high wire troop for about three years.  He is the one who introduced me to toy trains, circus, train swap meets and a lot of other fun stuff.  Sadly, he is pretty much house bond now due to health problems but I still visit him as often as he feels up to it.

As was mentioned by RT I think, we will probably get another story about you and the Chief when he gets back from the Lake.

Thanks to all vets on this memorial day,

Ray
