It is a cloudy and humid 70 degrees. going up to 82 today with a chance of more rain. Rained last night.
Today is a busy day. I have a lot of chores to do and I will need a nap this afternoon. Wife is in Cleveland for the weekend, with Daughter and family. I'm cooking again.
Ray.... I hope your knee surgery went well. Prayers out for a speedy recovery for you.

Hi GUYZ,
Dreary day here today gonna rain maybe this afternoon. Maybe go Trout Fishing at 4 then fire tonite with BRO. Cut grass last nite and had fire with WIFE and MINNIE, good time. #@$@$&* neighbor woke us up at 6 AM because he wanted to cut his grass then, what a mooron .
Have a good day and
Stay frosty,
Dennis.......I've got the 80-200MM lens too, but I can't recall the F number. There were two at the time.
RaySP......hope you are resting comfortably and that the knee repair went without a hitch.
DougM......don't get impatient with the weed control products. The weeds will start curling up in 2 days and will be gone in about two weeks. With those fire thistle weeds, they are tough suckers and take longer to eradicate. I hit them probably 3 times with the Ortho spot products, about every 5 days. I can't afford to not annihilate them because of the dogs and kids.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good morning or good evening all (depending on your time zone)
Been reall busy at work the past couple of weeks and it' hard keeping up with all thats going on.
Traindood - Anytime you want an autograph you can have one! I guess one of the best thing about sports is that we kinda feel that we are a part of the team. So when we win we feel up and when we lose we feel down. Either way we feel part of the group well enough to say "WE" all the time.
SP Ray - By now you might be home resting, good luck. Hope all goes well!!!
Hudson John - We are all proud of you kids, and now that my nephew has been honored with this award we can finally admit he's a chip off the old uncle's block!! I wanted to clean out your house the other day while you weren't home, because a "special" delivery came, but your wife said I needed to wait until you got there! Not fair!
Joe - I don't know what's been happening but we better straighten out fast as the team to the nawth just beat us.
Jack - Just wait for tomorrow night on Fox.
Mike C - That's good news! Tell Lucas we all wish him well!
Laz - My niece and my daughter are counting the days along with you!
Chat later!

Ray - God bless and prayers for quick recovery and cute nurses!
Nice chats with SJ and Charlie tonight.
TARDIS is ready, banilla is offered, and we have multiple Root Beer brands on board, so let's hit it!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening everyone. Getting ready for bed. Both kids took a power nap after school today and so they stayed up late tonight. Daughter has her final recital for ballet tomorrow. Wife and I took care of some cleaning up duties to prepare for guests.
Mike C., congratulations about Lucas. Quite a thing for you to be sharing with us. We have all shared in your tough times with Lucas and his health struggle, and now, this wonderful announcement.....it is like he has grown up on all of us. Fantastic!
Jack, the new Nikon bodies can be used with just about every lens they have made (with few exceptions). There are a few exceptions, and even if you wanted to use some older lenses that have only manual capabilities, you can still get great shots from them. I have some high dollar glass from before digital and still use them. I have both a Swarovski 800mm lens and a 1100mm lens that are great. I think I shared some photos of a full moon here some time ago taken with one of these. I also have some prime lenses that are great, but not your every day walk around deal. One of my favorite lenses is a 80-200 F2.8 that is fantastic.
Chief, thanks for the update! You really are a great guy. Glad to call you friend.
Hope each of you is blessed this weekend.Dennis

cnw1995 Lots to 'absorb' - thanks, Jack. Just to give you all a heads-up. Yup, it's on 'my' Metra line that a inbound scoot hit a truck today and panicked riders bailed out of the emergency windows. I'm sure this bigtime delay my commute home ... and on a Friday too. Ah well.

cnw1995 ........Jack, how do you kill weeds and not the grass? Whatever Scotts stuff I put down seemed to kill off a particularly obnoxious type of weed with spiky leaves I always have to dig up so the kids don't step on them. My neighbor used some spray and now has a spotted yard.
........Jack, how do you kill weeds and not the grass? Whatever Scotts stuff I put down seemed to kill off a particularly obnoxious type of weed with spiky leaves I always have to dig up so the kids don't step on them. My neighbor used some spray and now has a spotted yard.
DougM.......You can use any of the lawn-safe, weed eradication products out there without so much as losing a blade of grass. I usually use the Scotts Turfbuilder Plus 2 for the expanses, a combination fertilizer and lawn weed killer. I use the Ortho Weed B-Gon in the single shot, spray bottle for the ones I missed.
These products are not cheap, but they thoroughly wipe out the weeds really well in a single application when used as instructed. Once, and you are 98% done for the season. Both products are dog and child safe when used as instructed as well. BUT......they must be used exactly per the instructions on the bag or the bottle to work well and as intended. The most important instructions on either product is the way you apply it and the timing.
It is best to use these products right now, before the dandelions go to seed.
The STBP2 must be applied to a wet lawn (early AM dew will suffice) so that the weed killing pellets stick to the weed leaves. The weed leaves then ingest the weed killing agent. The weed actually outgrows the root, like a super fertilizer for weeds, and they curl up and die. The bag says the pellets clinging to the weed leaves must remain undisturbed for at least 24 hours to allow for complete ingestion and to be most effective killing the weeds. That means no dogs or kids or adults romping on the treated lawn, knocking the pellets off the weed leaves. Equally important, the instructions emphasize no rain or lawn watering. After 24 to 48 hours, you can then water (rinse) the stuff into the lawn and can just resume normal yard activities. And you will see the weeds dying within 48 hours. Absolutely no weed pulling necessary!!!!!!!! Comes in bags small enough to treat 5,000 sq. ft.or as large as 15,000 sq.ft. Whatever I have left over, I usually seal the bag well to keep the moisture out and avoid clumping and then use it up on the next fertilizer application or wait and use it in the Fall. STBPP2 does not kill or prevent crabgrass.
Ortho Weed B-Gon, a liquid, is equally effective killing just the weeds but has no fertilizer in it, just weed killer. Comes in "spot weed" pint and quart squirt bottles. Also in a half gallon one with a garden hose conection for use over large areas like an entire lawn, with each half gallon treating about 5,000 square feet of lawn. Should be applied to a dry lawn (or weeds) with no rain in the forecast for 24-48 hours for the same reason stated above, complete ingestion. Then you can water it in and resume normal yard activities. The variation I just used also contains a crabgrass control ingredient. Have never used this one before and don't know yet how effective it is preventing crabgrass.
Regarding obnoxious weeds like the fire thistle you mentioned, ones that are a painful hazzard to adults, kids, and dogs alike..... I get an infestation of these every year because I border wetlands. These suckers pop up, grow, and propagate fast and furiously. They don't seem to die out in the Fall and reseed themselves like all of the other broad leaf weeds. I use the spot OWBG on these, but it usually takes two applications (squirts) to knock them down and keep them gonzo. For these, I look for them every time I mow and nail the suckers in their infancy.
Your neighbor has dead spots in his lawn because he used the wrong product to kill his lawn weeds. It wasn't a lawn-safe, weed killing product he used. What he used was a product you use to kill anything and everything green or growing you want to wipe out. "Roundup" and "Next Day" are two such a products. Right on the bottle in big bold letters it says "Weed And Grass Killer." These products work great if you use them correctly on unwanted growing stuff, growing around or up through patios, cracks in the driveway and sidewalks, or in between landscaping bricks. They usually come in single squirt bottles. And they come in two formulas, both of which start working almost within a couple of hours. One formula is long lasting that will prevent anything growing in that treated spot for up to three full months.
A word of extreme caution using these types of scorched earth, kill everything products. They can be very unforegiving. They kill any and all plant life they come into contact with, like lawn, flowers, hedges, shrubbery, and evergreens.
My neighbor (ironically also named Frank ) used one of these kill everything products to spot weed in his beautiful, newly-planted lawn and wound up with a Dalmation looking, brown polkadot lawn for that entire season. His landscaper who had installed the lawn had a heart attack when he saw what the guy had done to his creation. Worse, his wife needled him mercilessly for failing to know what he bought and for his failure to read the instructions of what the product was and what it would do.
Another neighbor was likewise a little careless using it, too close to his decorative evergreens and some of his wife's flowers out in front of his house. Apparently there was a breeze that day, and the wind took some of the chemical mist and deposited it where he didn't intend for it to go. He wound up with 1 ft x 1 ft. brown dead holes (permanent) in his evergreens. His wife likewise teased the grits out of him.
Hope this stuff helps you.
Ray,

Jack,
I could care less about the age or mileage, but I just don't have that kind of money right now. My main concern is that the hatch isn't rusted out. Considering what it cost to get the 4EAT rebuilt, the price is right where it should be to cover the cost. I paid that much to get the one in my 97 rebuilt at 174,550. I'd just rather get a GT with a five speed when I get the money. As for that 96, I've seen the car around, but haven't seen the owner lately.
I just got the 624-622 wrapped up. I am very happy with the way it turned out, and even more so now that it is finally done. The thread has been updated. I also picked up a 313 Bascule Bridge last night. It has been at the top of my want list for the past 13 years, and I found what looks to be a decent one at at decent price...I hope.
Lunch Time,
SPMan, Ray, good luck with the surgery. My daughter had it done 3 times and she is only going on 27. High School sports got her.
RI Jack. We think alike on the subject of living in a flood prone area. I see a lot of it with my job. An act of God is one thing, but to buy or build in a flood prone area is beyond my comprehension. Before we bought our property, I check the flood zones and saw that our property was out of it.
My son's prom is tonight. Too bad another late night here. My wife will take the pictures.
Back to work.
Thoughts and prayers for all in need.
John
GOOD LUCK RAY with the surgery. Prayers for your full recovery.
Jack, Banks, Doug and all my friends on the Forum, I made the decision to have the knee surgery yesterday after they told me they could do it today (Friday). It was a whirl wind day yesterday getting everything done for pre op. I had to go to two doctor's offices plus a medical supply place to order things I will need when I come home tonight. I have to be at the hospital at 11::00AM this morning PST. The surgery will start about 3:00PM PST. If everything goes well they will send me home tonight. I took one last look at my layout in the garage this morning. I won't be able to duck under portions of the layout for some time I suspect. I am seriously considering making some changes on the layout to make it eaiseir to navigate later this year. I will report back as soon as I can.
Thanks for your support,
SPMan
Aloha. A strange morning so far. My boss called and asked me to try to track down one of our more, um experienced professors. She wanted me to see if he was wandering anywhere on campus. OK then. Hope he's OK.A third day in a row of sun and heat. But it's supposed to be 40s-50s next week. Go figure. Finally succumbed to many blandishments yesterday and put in an insurance claim on our house roof - it was the shingles in the yard after the last hailstorm that did it. Let's see if they reject it.Here's a good story on my stupidness. The bride reported the TV in our bedroom - a perfectly good 26 year old RCA - wasn't working well this week. (I seldom watch it). So I popped it on and sure enough the picture looks all jangly. OK, I thought, it's finally dead. I tried to talk her out of replacing it. But no joy. I had put some $ aside. Let's go get another one I thought. A long time later, I've wrestled this new thing together - power it up and it has the same jangly picture. So I start laughing at myself - the old TV was fine, the cable box needed work and I never checked it. After fixing that, I was too tired to box up and return the new TV. So the bride's happy, and I have to start saving $ again. LOL.
John, belated good wishes for many happy returns of the day I hope my boy graduates from high school next year (hope he finishes this year. Sigh. We're working on it).Jack, how do you kill weeds and not the grass? Whatever Scotts stuff I put down seemed to kill off a particularly obnoxious type of weed with spiky leaves I always have to dig up so the kids don't step on them. My neighbor used some spray and now has a spotted yard. BTW, our town still has an A&W root beer - and ice cream - stand.Ray, good luck on the surgery. Sounds needed. Praying for your friend's recovery.Buckeye, how do these folks keep getting flood insurance if they keep living in a flood plain?Pat, that average age seems so 'experienced'. Glad so many of this generation are represented here. Not quite there yet myself.MIke C, congrats on Lucas' engagement!Banks, my teen's teacher clarified the veteran interview assignment - he wanted it in-person so I took yours and RT's advice and called the local VFW and set up a visit this weekend.

Congrats. I know he is a true American and loves BASEBALL and not that un-American game.
Morning. Cloudy and still smokey.
Getting ready to go to a lunch meeting [serving nothing but a sandwich and chips ]. Busy Sat. with several "visits" to things happening in Town.
Have a good weekend. All you workers deserve it as my SS check came on time.
Good Morning all!
Sunny and cool here - 70's today. 80's by weekend. Some rain predicted early next week.
Busy day today with conference calls all morning and into early afternoon. Global business is for the birds.
Starting summer planning. Normal family vacation + 25th anniversary trip this year.
TGIF!
Have a great day all!
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,
Looks like after today when it will hit the mid 60s we can expect overcast skies, rain, and similar high temperatures for the next 7 days. One of the neighboring towns has announced an outdoor watering ban already even though it has been a wet Spring....not a bad idea since a significant amount of pure, treated water good enough for drinking winds up on lawns. Few people have private wells because getting to the ground water is not as easy as it sounds with the prevailing ledge rock formations that run underground.......many house foundations and roads (with sewer, water, and electric running beneath them) have to be blased out. And why most of the electric and phone lines are up on poles here in New England. Garden needs, car washing, and such are ok but must be done with hose in hand. The use of lawn sprinklers and lawn irrigation systems are limited by the ban in this town. Outlawed outright in others which have yet to announce anything. Too bad about a third of our treated drinking water which originates in reservoirs is known to be lost in the ground due to an ancient leaking infrastructure.
Regarding root beer.......remember when the A&W root beer stands were in existence and selling fresh root beer without preservatives and with minimal carbonation? Now that was and is my all time favorite root beer.
Chief......it is a lucky thing SJ was there to bail your out of jail and had the presence of mind to bring you a change of clothes. Orange does not become you.
RaySP.......Traindood has a good point. A second opinion is always wise, but with an MRI revealing damage and with your track record of serious, reoccuring knee pain, I don't think you want to be trying to use pharmaceuticals to keep you walking over the short run or be facing the inevitable over the long haul.
MikeC.......congratulations on your son's engagement. Does this mean you won't be able to use him as indentured slave labor around your homestead after the Summer of 2012? Better get that "to do" list up and running with your boy.
Brutus.....I have a 2 terrabyte external disc drive to back up everything on my home desktop, including many years of family digital photos (about 7,000 of them). The reason for getting prints of pictures? Relatives without a pc! My wife's folks, for example, have steadfastly refused to get a pc (or take my used ones) or a cell phone (or my used ones). Won't accept gifts of a paid internet connect or a paid cell contract either. So I am constantly sending them prints direct from WalMart. In the meantime, I have taken a lot of "keeper" family photos that family members want to blow up and have framed.
JimmyT......you are wise. Another automobile, nearly 19 model years old, will be nothing but another tedious project and money pit. Unless the 93 is better than the 97, skip it. Resurrect your chase of the 96 and the fun that goes with it. Your late model Mustang idea has merit as it can be your reliable daily driver.
RT.......sounds like the ceiling layout is really coming along!!!!
Dennis.....thanks for your take on the Nikon cameras. I do need to learn more about the shortcomings before pulling the trigger. I realize buying a single camera to do both video and still pictures will come with compromises and risks. But "grab one camera and go" is appealing to me. I always get years and years out of my cameras. One sad note: Nikon's newer cameras no longer support the older lenses I have from the very early 1970s, and I have quite a few of them. The FTN and F2 bodies don't fetch much in the "used" marketplace either.
Pat.......remember, "old" is defined as "twenty years older than you are." That would make you middle aged.
HudsonJohn......sounds like life's responsibilities (work) derailed your birthday celebration or at least tempered it. Regarding floods. My FIL and I "discussed" this topic yesterday----folks who knowingly build and/or buy in places known to be prone to flooding, get wiped out, then need to be bailed out with tax and insurance dollars. We solved nothing. But I maintain there is a big difference between those folks who knowingly put themselves in harms way and those who through no fault of their own get hit with an "act of God." He then countered with: "Then no one should be allowed to choose to live near the ocean, in hurricane-prone areas, in tornado-prone ones, or in areas around larger cities that lie near a river. He thinks we should be doing more listening to the Army Corps of engineers whose experts aptly point out that dams and levees to control Mother Nature's delivery of water can cause as many disasters as they prevent. I agree.
Prayers for those who need them. Later, gang.
TGIF!!!!!
Belated to Blueberryhill and Hudson.
Cheapclassics Congrats on the pending nuptials.
SP RAY, I'd say go for it. A couple years ago I ignored my Doc's advice to have surgery on a ligament issue. After months of injections and therapy with little improvement I relented and had the surgery. Two weeks later it was good as new.
CNW. How goes the Veteran's interview?
Five days in a row with no rain. First for that in a long time. Son got a good start on his plowing this week. Also finally got a handle on the lawn mowing. It is still a bit ragged because I cut it long to reduce the mess. Cut it again in a couple of days. Rain is predicted however for the weekend.
I've got the company's box for tonight's Altoona Curve game. Hope the rain holds off.
Best get back to paying the SS fund.
Prayers for those in need.
It is a sunny 72 degrees. Going up to 84 today with a slight chance of rain.
Today is a busy day. I have a project to work on and the usual chores. Will be busy until the afternoon nap.
I think the Indians are in a slump. I hope they pull out of it soon.
Buckeye & LAZ..... TGIF
