Good Morning from NJ,

All quiet on the weather front. We had 9,000 customers out of power yesterday. All is dead quiet as I prep for the Morning safety huddle. We had a number of Motor Vehicle Accidents yesterday. Nothing major or injuries. We had a few slip trips and falls.

Doug, You are right. I would rather have snow and ice than the flooding in Australia.

RI Jack, My son handles most of the snow removal. My daughter lives across the street and she and my son in law help.

Prayers and thoughts for all in need.

John

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 10 degrees. Going up to 25 today with no new snow. We got about an inch last night.

Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and the usual chores to do. Then, I can relax. Maybe do some reading this afternoon, then a nap. I'd love to take a nap outside under the shade tree. Maybe in July.

Dining car is here with the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the teens.  Made it into work with no major difficulty.  Interstate was clear, but street connecting it to downtown could have used some work.  Most people are back at work today.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL any time and I can drive.  Prayers going out to all who need them.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning all, It was six degrees when I left the house at 0730, I believe it is nine now.  The sun is shining very brightly which may deceive some into thinking it is warm, but once they get outside and the wind hits them they will know better.  The kids are back to school today as well so the wife will have peace again while at home.

I had oatmeal for breakfast and I have the usual workday planned.

RI Jack - I'm sure Chief appreciates Yankee Ideaingenuity such as indoor plumbing when the weather is cold.  I'm glad your snow blower was working properly otherwise you might still be out there.

Good day,

Joe

Aloha all. Sunny and really cold. Cleared the driveway again. Couldn't get to the mailbox. As Jack's dad said, it'll all melt eventually. Drove the bride to Super Walmart and stayed out her way whilst she shopped. Took our youngest with his wallet over to toys - he bought a rubber snake, plastic dinosaur, a can of silly string, and 'noise' putty. What a boy! Maybe run trains later.

Mornin'/Afternoon All.

A bit of a chill out here this morning. Actually had an iced over puddle in the backyard. Hope the wind backs off some, I-8 was closed for awhile after a truck was blown over as well as some cars being crunched by falling trees in town. Oh well, keeps the body shops and landscapers busy. Laugh Still beats the snow and ice.

Anybody got the "Farmer's Almanac"? I'll believe that long before that hairy rat in Pa.

Doug, What a kid !  Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Later all, time to refill the mug. My coffee sure beats that stuff I had at the shop while my truck was being serviced.

Roy........as far South in the U.S. as Texas is, why does it get so cold down there.  And why aren't you sending more of those single digits Chief's way?

Jack - I am working on that as best I can but making little progress! Bang Head

Well it is 18 here and might hit 22. Cloudy and guess what? Snohizo tomorrow morning!

Schools closed again today. Still a lot of ice on the streets but the issue is we never know when the power is going to be cut. Can't send them to school and then no heat/lights for 30 min. Will not get above freezing here until Saturday.

Had two outdoor standpipes freeze up yesterday/last night, got them thawed before the ice expanded enough to bust the pipe, so now I check several times a day to make sure they are OK. I use light bulbs under large plastic buckets to keep the standpipes warm, but one bulb went out. Good thing I checked.

The weather is severely affecting the various outdoor/tent events planned by NFL and local leaders. Guess none of them looked at past Feb weather here to see Feb is when we get most of our snow and ice storms.

Doug M - I sure miss the days when a handful of $1 bills would entertain my young 'un.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Roy, Isn't that true?  He used his own money: $1 for the snake; $1 for the dino; $1 for the 'noise' putty (you squeeze it, it lets out air, every 10 seconds, he says OK who passed gas) $3 for the silly string. LOL

Oh Lord do I remember that - man was the wife happy when he tired of it - and even happier when she was able to spirit it away into the trash!

BTW - spent an hour getting my son's car de-iced. Had a 1 inch thick coat on the windshield and rear window. His car is an '08 GM Saturn Aura with remote start - so I did not have to poor water on it to unstick the drivers door. Luckily he left the defroster on High since I could not open the doors initially. Could not get the windshield wipers free, but after running a while it will free up. Did learn the remote start shuts itself down after a few minutes.

Doug, our kids have fun with the 'Flarp' too.  Thankfully, they know enough to put it away before mom gets aggravated.  Temps dropped off and it is in the high 50s.  Overcast and will most likely rain soon.  Guess that means more snow for the folks further north.

Did a interesting case this morning, followed by coming home to watch a movie with my bride.  She is now off with the daughter at ballet practice.  Made some reservations to go to Las Vegas in the summer.

Chief, hope your garden plans are coming together.  I am thinking of starting one, may need some advice.

Hope everyone can stay indoors up there in the great white north!

Evening all

Mid 30's no snow on the ground.  Extended forcast looks good.  I am going to replace the window that got broke this Saturday if it is not too cold.  Will try and do it before the kids basketball game.

My bride is talking about adding on to the house.  It would be two story or 1 1/2.  An extra bedroom upstairs, family room downstairs, and my input, a full basement that will be MINE!  Starting to draw up plans and then estiments.  Hopefully the house we have on the market will sell then we could pay for the addition without going to the bank.

Don - That is a great looking layout.  Really sharp electrical work.  Satisfaction in a job well done.

Jon - Can you knock the breeze off the pipes with some blocking?  MAybe rig a lightbulb to give off some heat?

Need to run to Autozone

Good night and may God bless

Jim

34 and dropping to 16 tonight at exit 77 (GSP) for those who don't know that's the Garden State Parkway.

After reading what alot of you guys got with this last snow I would say we dodged a bullet, we got nothing but rain! Which is odd for us this year. More rain for Saturday as it will be in the 40's.

Don- I wish I had the time and place to wire a layout like you're doing, look forward for the updates.

RT- Happy belated birthday! We all deserve to have our day in the sun!

Roy - I bet the NFL will be keeping thier fingers crossed when the Super Bowl comes th Jersey in 2014!

Doug - As I say to my younger friends, enjoy them while they're young and keep in touch with thier "little" lives. Not that the joy goes away when they get older, as mine are all in thier 20's, it's just a diffent kind of joy.

Hopping all is well with everyone,

Good evening all,

All the pipes are now thawed out.  Our pipes are buried so I presume the ground would have to be very cold to cause them to freeze.  It has been extremely cold so I believe it is possible.  Fortunately all is back in order with no problems, and it will warm up to the high-20s and mid-30s the next couple of days.

Doug/Roy – My kids love the $1 section at Target.  Their money goes farther in that section.  They love the simplest things sometimes.

Unfortunately I did not run any trains tonight, and now it is time for bed.

Good night,

Joe

Woke up to a brisk -9 today.  My new boss, who moved here from Brazil last summer, said that "it's not cold - it's beyond cold!"

Never did run trains yesterday.  Ended up shoveling the alley as a plan 'B' to get the cars out and moving today.

Weekend is almost here is an early TGIF.

All for now.

Howdy guys - back to work today over the ice and ice.  They moved where my team sits again, so I had to schlep my stuff down 2 floors for about 4 hours.  My new cubicle location is okay, but right under an air vent and I think it was 80 degrees all day.

Jack - Chewy is a girl dog and is box trained.  We have a box lined with puppy pads that she uses, although she is 6 years old now.

Sounds like an excellent haul for Benzilla Thumbs Up

Not much going on today - a long day as it took an hour to get to work and an hour and a half getting home due to traffic and accidents.  TARDIS is ready and Mike can drive Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening All !  THANKS FOR ALL THE COMPLIMENTS !

Fife - This isn't my layout, Im working part time for a guy who makes custom layouts.  (Lloyd's Layouts), I'm assisting in the design, and do the wiring.  Its been a lot of fun, I really am enjoying it.

Roy - Still have the "other" company, had a couple people who wanted to buy it, but turned it over to the wife.  She's doing a great job, and I'm "consulting".

Regarding the layout I have had a great time working on it, and the other guy is enjoyable to work with.  It is equally exciting or more watching the reaction of the owner as hes sees things unfold.  Originally he wanted the layout for conventional running.  Then i showed him what Command Control was and did he ever get excited ove that.  So modified everything to accommodate DCS & TMCC.  Going to be a fun layout. We are waiting on some switches to lay in the last track loop, engine yard, and classification yard.  Will most likely resume that activity next week.  Hopefully have it landscaped within 3 weeks.

Spent the day working around the house, we had some rather significant winds yesterday.  Didn't have any problems, but sure made a mess.  Spent about 3 hours CLEANING THE POOL.  (Man was the water ever cold, had to clean out a couple of filters, and my hand was immersed for about 10-15 minutes, and it actually began to ache.  Looks like I need to take the primary filter apart and clean the grids, and resaturate with Diatametious Earth.

Didn't get the computer problems resolved, think might have to invest in a new one.  My computer guy flaked out on me again.  Chris got some good news today, he is going to be working the Academy Awards again this year. $$$.

Hope everyone can see the sun soon, that the snow isn't too deep and the weather clears up.

Going back to work on the layout tomorrow afternoon, going to primarily do some running and training on the DCS.

Later

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps reaching the 30s.  Hauled big tree limb off neighbor's property last night before they had a chance to complain about it.  Did some running for wife and dad.  Work was busy.  Got a lot of odds and ends stuff that had been hanging over my head done.  Will spend today doing case reports.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime and I can drive.  We can re-route some of the power back to the refrigerator to keep some of the adult beverages cooler tonight for the trip.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning, was a chilly 16 when I left home at "Exit 77" down the Shore.

Jim, Sturgeon-Phish, I know all about home improvements, building a house and WIVES. Do it all now, because they love to make impossible changes later after they watch those pain in the a-- home improvement shows.

Chief, I feel your pain when it comes to people borrowing and you need it.

Buckeye, So that is the "Real Story".

Morning all.  Looks like Buckeye has been spying on me again.  Found out the real truth. Laugh  Off to the Town Board retreat.  Lucy woke me at 4:30.  Kept jumping onmy back.  Got up, put on comforty clothes and set in recliner.  Went to sleep with her in my lap.  She slept too.  Spoilled dog.  Had some cold rain this AM.  Looked up on a portion of the roof and it was WHITE.  Little sleet was mixed with it.  Too warm for it to do anything.  We are in a drought.  Seems no large amounts of rain this winter.  Hope I can stay awake.
