Aloha all. Sun is out downtown but it's only in the 40s - I'll take it though. Prayers for your working things out this weekend, Mike C. Good luck on the interview, Jim. JimStur, I would've asked for both MLK and GF off. LOL. Looks like my biggest project this weekend will be taking the boys somewhere Sunday whilst the bride hosts a shower for a good friend who recently adopted a Philippine orphan.

Good Morning

Sun and 46, snow is gone except for the piles. That means another snow is probably not far away. At least it won't stay on the ground long. March can be nasty here but it's also the exit of winter. As I read the pot it appears people are beginning to stir some. Eggs bacon and hash browns for breakfast so that means I will skip lunch..S.J.

Good Morning All !

Had a good day yesterday, got a lot of wiring taken care of on the layout.

Today is "computer day", FOUND the code for the car radio, it was in a box.  Now have it more "Logically" placed.  So it turned out well, didn't have to take out the radio to replace the headlight bulb. Angry  Now the computer issues is almost as bad.  The laptop repair shop ordered a replacement screen, finally got it, and upon installation found out that a chip has to be replaced when the monitor is. Blindfold  And that will require formatting the HD. Angry  So I'm going to see about copying all the data before its lost.  Then need to set up a desktop as well.  Oh Fun!

ChiefEagles

sorry Yanks, you can't see the ground yet]  Have a good one.

Folks out here are busy staking down plastic sheets to try and hold the ground in place.  Every broadcast is screaming doom and gloom, with the pending rain just off the coast.  Suppose to arrive this evening during rush hour!  Glad I will be home!!

Went down to the OLD club the other day.  They have made a number of improvements, and I was quite welcome.  So I think I will head back down there next week.

It was also fun, the TrainDoc went with me, he seemed to have a good time as well.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny and mid 40s Cape Ann Taxachussets,

Yesterday Boston hit 60 degrees, one degree shy of a record high for the date.  Only hit 56 here twenty miles North.  Today's high will be about the same for me, and I'll take it!  After reading of RT's yardwork escapades, I got motivated and energized, grabbed a leaf rake, and ran out to get at it.  Not a leaf could be seen, just snow.  Took the car to get bathed instead.  Big Smile

Seven year old Granddaughter scored 30 out of 30 on her math test yesterday, showing what she is capable of.  Tests are time limited.  Other times, she misses a lot of questions on the exact same content.  At least capability is not the issue.  Motivation, concentration, nervousness?  It's one of them, and quite fixable.

Laz........Minnie is one lucky pup to have you.  Her life out and about on those daily walks with you......couldn't be better.  Releases some of that pent up energy and frustration, reduces the inclination to start up some unwanted puppy chewing.

Chief.......was watching the weather channel last night.  75 in Raleigh yesterday, tied a record high for the date.  Around your digs it should be 95 by May and 115 by August.  Smile, Wink & Grin

MikeC......prayers for a good weekend with all of the family planning, logistics, and workarounds you have done.  If this were my family, at least one of my sisters would ignore her singular and clear responsibility in the plan, become the broken link in the chain, and the whole plan would go South from there.

Example.....when I was a bachelor, my soon-to-be wife and I restarted a family tradition started by my parents, one that had fallen by the wayside when my folks got older.....too much for them.  To their delight, we decided to start anew and host the annual July 4 BBQ (OK, cookout!) at my house.

The entire cookout menu was carefully built around individual "assignments" spread out amongst all of the attendees, right down to the napkins.  Wifey and I supplied all the beverages and the meats/seafood/poultry.  Everyone else the rest.  One of my sisters volunteered to handle corn on the cob responsibility......just had to buy it and bring it au naturel, and we would take it from there.

Everyone began arriving in plenty of time to take in the community parade first which literally assembled out in front of my house.  Then it happened.....

My one sister unilaterally decided she would bring ice cream (someone elses' assignment) instead of the corn.  When she arrived at my place and I saw her without the corn, I rejected her right at the door and sent her back out to the store to get corn.  Off she huffed.  Prodigal sister scored the corn and returned.  I kissed her, thanked her, and carried on as if nothing had happened.

As you might expect, my wife, my mother, my other sister, and my Aunts were all appalled at what they considered my extremely rude treatment of my sister.  My nephews, Uncle, and Dad were all very amused......in fact, my Dad found great humor in it for the rest of the day.  When everyone was finally engaged in eating, Dad commented for all to hear "Great corn, Judy!" which broke everyone up.  Did my sister learn anything that day?  Of course not.  That's family for you.  Bang Head

Later, gang.

Good morning all,

8ntruck, thanks for the info re CV boot replacements.  The amount of labor gives me a good idea of what it will cost.

Re not as cold in Oklahoma, I was referring to night time temperature in my garage in California.  Daytime is not bad but it cools down a lot at night.  We could probably still run with our coats on with a hot cup of coffee but who needs that.  I did that for a living on the real railroad before I retired.

Don, glad things are better at the club.  I missed the last open house but I always enjoy visiting down there.

Getting ready for more rain.  I'm OK but next door neighbor with collie dogs has a leak in his roof.  Covered the whole works with plastic sheeting until he can get a roofer.  Dogs have a tarp over their kennel.  They had some igloo shaped dog houses when they moved in but were abandoned after the first rain flooded the ground they were on.

later,

Ray

Back at work for another week. Going to be a slow one as one receiver is down for compressor issues and the weather isn't good enough to use the other. Looks like we will be enjoying some of that weather coming in from CA this weekend.

Ray - the cheapest way to go on your CV boots may to put in rebuilt axles. It saves the shop at lot of time in repacking the old joints.

Chief - more contractor projects? What else are you having done?

Laz - nice job on the layout. And you have an impressive collection there as well.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Hey Roy:   Read your  post on college tour.  No amount of energy should be spared in using the time for your kids to feel comfortable at their chosen school. Save you a lot of grief later on.  Back in the day, wifey and i went all over the place to place kids in right schools. Let me tell you, it wasn't easy. However, the results were unmeasureable. Thanks Traindood - guess my son is already half way there - don't ask him to change a tire either!'

This news just in:

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found
traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that
their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a
California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a
Story in the LA Times read: " California archaeologists, finding  200 year
old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced
high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New
Yorkers"

One week later. A local newspaper in North Carolina reported the following:
After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Rolesville, NC, Mayor
Frank Eagles, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely
nothing.

Mayor Eagles has therefore concluded that "300 years ago, North Carolina had already
gone wireless."

Hey Roy:   This is another  fine example of rebel ingenuity!   Surprise    Really, who would  think of watching automobiles  Automobile   going around in circles and have it become the second most watched eh, sport in the U.S.?  Of course, if you don't care to get dizzy, there is also the next  almost  most popular sport, it's called noodling and has nothing to do with soup.  Laugh   What unusual and interesting sports these rebs have!  I am glad we live in a country where our diversity gives a change of cultures. Hey All !

No museum today. Sigh

Been down with the crud since monday morning, can't remember the last time I slept so much. Although with the rain that has been forecast for us this week I had to go up on the roof to make sure the gutters were clear. Was a tad wobbly on the feet so I had the other half act as a spotter just in case.

Don, One of these days, if schedules can be worked out, you & train-doc and Ray need to make a road trip down this way. Thumbs Up

Doug, that sounds like a good idea if we can get our schedules together sometime.  I made the trip once with some other train buddies.  We came down on Amtrak and got a cab over to the layout.  Probably be cheaper to ride the bus or trolley if we knew our way around.

I'm having DCS troubles today.  Got some kind of grimlin in an E6 proto 2 diesel.  It seems to have lost it's I.D, #.  It stopped running and I tried doing some resets to no avail.  I'm recharging the battery over

night now and hope that will help.  Keep getting no engine on track messages and no engine found.  Battery might be low because I don't run this one enough to keep it charged.  I have a Metrolink F59PH that is doing the same thing.  Put new batteries in hand held controller as well.

Getting ready for more rain now.

Later,

Ray

Don, One of these days, if schedules can be worked out, you & train-doc and Ray need to make a road trip down this way. Thumbs Up

Doug,  That sounds fine.  Now, the challenge....

If you were to run that same trip backwards, (be on the East side of I-5 first, then return on the West side of I-5, opposite of what we would do.)  There would be 3 layouts to view.  Train-Doc's, Ray's, and mineNow that's 3 for 1.  AND, you have never seen any one of them, now I know Ray and I have both seen the one in the museum, and I am 99% sure so has the Train Doc.  So see, the scheduling would be easier, and you wouldn't have 3 old guys stuck in a car for 4 hours each, representing 12 hours of jabber, compared to only 4 hours for one fella.  Now doesn't that make sense?  So hurry up and get better, and hit the road Dude!

Good evening all,

It hit around 68 today and it was sunny.  Yesterday's paper ran an article how in one week's time the temperature in Enid changed 103 degrees from a record low of -23 to a record high for Feb of 80 - that's pretty amazing.  It was a busy day at work; our network was fixed and we frantically attempted to catch up on the paperwork, but at around 1800 the network went down again.  That's when I called it a day.  I grilled rib eye steaks and asparagus on the grill and the wife fried some potatoes - it was a fantastic meal.  I will be using some leftover steak and potatoes to make quite the omelet tomorrow morning.

I started cleaning our carpets tonight using a Bissell carpet cleaning vacuum.  It will be a lengthy process since I have to add cleaner and change the water about every 10 minutes.  Is that typical?

We should have a nice day tomorrow weather-wise.  We will be driving to Stillwater, OK (about an hour away), so our 7y/o son and I can attend a model train show.  This will be the first time for me to attend this show.  We will also have dinner while in Stillwater before we come home.

Good night,

Joe

Full Moon last night and......nothing.  WOW!! that's a first for sure.
