Traindood - check your e-mail for the chat response. It worked. The Forum chat allows one to chat off-line via the forum and not reveal e-mail addresses.

Brutus - thanks for the good news again on Char!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Borders that was across the street from where I work is closing.  Probably 50% of my Christmas shopping was done there.  Hmmmmm.....  One of "my" soccer girls lost her dad to cancer.  He was only 41.  With my dad and what he is going thru, well, you kind of expect something of that nature at his age, but 41......   D--n, that creates a vacuum if you know what I mean.  Dad has been having rough nights.  He had some visitors yesterday and even they noticed he was putting on a good "show" for them.  At least work went well.  I am sorry I have not been commenting as much on the topics others have been discussing as I usually do.  I do read what everybody has been doing and it is good to hear the other activities.  Brutus, I hope things improve for Char regarding her tooth.  Fife, cool deal on the security detail.  Weather still predominates a lot of our discussions.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast befroe sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime, and we may need the A/C on soon.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha. Today should be 60! That'll teach that dastardly snow, though it all returns to 'normal' temps tomorrow. and there's tons of snow left out there. Jack, I thought I was the only one with older, solid tech, like my 1984 TV and our trains Big Smile. Got to get the boys off to school.

One more day and back to the real February. This break felt good though. After a week above freezing we still have way more snow than grass. Egg and bologna sandwich for breakfast..S.J.

Just returned from taking my resume and application back to a relatively local company that is involved with solar power.  From the discussion that the receptionist and I had, this sounds very promising.Thumbs Up  On the way there I passed a beautiful 96 Probe SE in Boysenberry, and on the way home it was parked by the local Subway.  Maybe that is some sort of sign? Smile, Wink & Grin I see it parked in a driveway not even a mile from here frequently, but this was the first time that I've seen the girl who owns it.  If it wasn't for the leaking valve cover gasket on my GT, I would have come home, switched vehicles, and gone to Subway.Smile, Wink & Grin

No tunnel portals or DVD yet, so I can't do much with the layout right now.  I need to replace the horn in the Sunfire, but I'll have to put the PGT back outside first later.

HudsonJohn....you and I must be brothers-in-law and didn't even know it.   Wink

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny and Warmer Taxachussetts,

Mid 40s now and may touch 50 tomorrow, then colder.  But unlike most of you guys, I won't be seeing lawn any time soon.  Three feet of the white stuff covering most of the lawn and the piles are still over 5 feet.

MikeC.......no explanations necessary.  Take care of business, and use the Pot for a respite of sorts.  We aren't going anywhere and are thinking of you.  Continued prayers for your Dad and for your soccer girl who lost her Dad at 41.  Way too young, as you noted.

Brutus........Char is on a roll and just got over two major hurdles: the tooth extraction and your chili.  Wink  I too like to remind my wife she is lucky she married me, but she ain't buying it.  Whistling

RT.........."remove hedge, till garden, and paint the fence"?!?  Not including the procrastination factor, I'll can safely say I can't/won't be tackling any of those outdoor chores for a couple of months.  We still have snow on the garage roofs out here, and it hasn't snowed for over a week!  Gotta venture out into the snow to retrieve a couple dozen presents the dog left, but that is about it.  Smile

JimSP........how's that Honda Odyssey treating you? Thumbs Up  Great choice.

SJ.......count me among the few intrepid souls who still have their Christmas layout up and running.  My days are numbered.  Sad

DougM........while I have always been on the cutting edge with most of the electronics and home entertainment, I must be the last guy on this forum to replace an HD tube TV with a flat screen LCD, at least in the primary viewing area(@ Christmas).  BlueRay?  Nope.  I'm not going through the video library upgrade (yet again: VHS to Stereo VHS to DVD) by replacing the DVDs we now have.  I must have the largest Disney DVD collection on earth, some duplicates because remastered versions were released.

JimmyT...........Big Smile  If she appears rich and independently wealthy, go for it.  Some may observe the toughest way to earn a buck is to marry it.  But "tough" is a relative term.  Big Smile

Pat -- I did a little checking on your question, thanks Google  :) and to my surprise there is a Toronto, IA!  It's in NE IA and is a small burg.  My knowledge of NE IA is limited at best but I do know there are lots and lots of wonderful motorcycle roads up there that I've been fortunate to experience.

Evening all

Beautiful in southern Ohio.  72° today.  Not bad for mid February.

RT – I would be tempted to throw a chain around the shrubs and pull them out with your truck that makes shrub removal real fast.

Jim F – Good News about Char, will keep the prayers going!

Jack – The Odyssey is great.  I don’t get to drive it much, but the bride and kids love it.  The returned lease has really worked out well.  There has been some minor things come up and the deal has bent over backwards to serve our needs.

Jim T – The cradle is 2 5/8” wide.

I really stirred the pot at work the other day.  Several years ago with the spirit of a diverse work force, Management changed a paid holiday without consulting the population.  Good Friday was removed as a paid holiday and Martin Luther King’s Jr birthday put in its place.

Last week Human Resources sent out an email that basically asked if we wanted to give up MLK for Good Friday as a paid holiday.  I answered and replied to all with this response.  “I want option B (Good Friday, not MLK birthday).  I believe Rev. King would shudder in his grave to even consider celebrating his birthday instead of the day when Jesus open heaven for ALL mankind.”  I received a lot of “AMENS” and a few less charitable remarks, and I was requested by my management to recall the response.  When asked if I knew I responded to all, I said “yes”.

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Good evening all, got a question for car buffs on the forum.  What would be the going price now on replacing all four rubber boots on the front axle of a 1987 Buick Century?  I need to shop around.  My son had the oil changed and they noticed that the boots were leaking a little.  The car is old but has low milage.  Don't mind spending some but don't want to spend a fortune on an old car.  We just use it for a back up when we need it.

No trains in garage tonight.  Too cold.  Had lunch with a train buddy though.  More rain predicted for tomorrow.  Snow level will be down to 3000 feet they say.

Tube steak (hot dogs) and beans on the menue tonight with potato salad and cold slaw.  Got some country style pork ribs for tomorrow though.

Got a big bruise on my right hand about the size of a half dollar.  Banged into something today.  I bruise easy.

Went to Valentine dinner last Monday night with pot luck food.  It was very good.  We high balled the chocolate candy however this year.  Had nice cake for desert.

Later,

Ray

Evenin' all! A bit of spring in February today as temps soared into the sixties. Rare for Jersey. Nice!

Just arriving today was a beautiful Flyer Town Station NO. 96! It's in great shape and will add to my 1920's buildings and sets.

Mike C - I know what you mean about a vacuum in a life. We still feel a void with the passing of my wifes brother this past fall from cancer. He was only 47. If keeping in touch with "our lives" is of some benefit to you, and I hope it is, then it's understandable, with what you're going through, that you don't comment on our lives. Good luck!

Jim - Sturgeon-Phish - I agree with you 100% on your thought process.

Jim - green97probe - Always think positive, and good luck.

John- Hudson#685 - Fri night might be a tough night to blast the roof and base because I'm going out to dinner for Cathy's mom's birthday! Her choice is the Anchor Inn. Probably home by 8:30. Your call. Saturday is ok by me, again, your call, esp since you're helping me out. Thanks!

Hoping all is well,

Ray

thought about that but theres a gas line under some of them ( well most of them) so don't want to take that chance till I see how deep it really is. but if I can get them cut about 6" below the ground level I will put some gravel in there and cement it the rest of the way so I can step out onto concrete not more bushes

Don got myself in trouble again but heck thats what were supose to do right? I bought a Williams dummy PB-1 in NYC stable To go with my Lionel PA-1 so should look good on the layout. Think the PB-1 is about 1" shorter but that will be fine and the colors won't match exact I bet but hey I've seen a lot where one is faded or just didn't exactly match so no big thing there.

Jim,

I just measured the cradle in the 755 and it is also 2 5/8".

Jack,

I don't know if idependently wealthy applies here or not.  Cleanest '96 I've seen in a while though.

I've got my fingers crossed that I get a call for an interview.  This seems to be the best place yet that I've applied to.  Plus, it is only a 15-20 minute drive.

Didn't work on the layout today, but I did move the PGT back outside and got it covered before replacing the horn on the Sunfire and fixing a small amount of rust.  Just finished ordering a set of valve cover gaskets for the PGT so that the alternator doesn't get taken out again.

Good evening all,

It was another warm day here today; it hit 75.  I stayed busy at work all day and towards the end of it our network went down.  Now the paperwork is backing up so I already know what my Friday will be like.  My wife made chicken fajitas for dinner and then I ran the trains with the baby for about 30 minutes.  My wife turned in early so I read with the kids and got them to sleep.  I watched some Family Ties while rocking the baby to sleep.  I lost an auction on eBay at the last moment, but I am not too upset.  It will leave me more money in the train budget in case I find anything at the train show in Stillwater, OK, this Saturday.

SP Ray - How is it too cold to run trains in your garage in CA, but I was able to run them in my garage in OK?  What a crazy winter we're having.  It was another nice night so I had the garage door open while running them.  I hope it warms up for you soon.

Jim SP - Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Good night,

Joe

The sun was just setting and the thermometer in my car read 72 degrees as I pulled out of the parking lot on my way home from work.  The 9 foot high piles of snow I shoveled out of the driveway a couple of weeks ago are just about gone.

Brutus - glad to hear Char's dental work came out OK.

Probe - hopefully this job opportunity works out for you.

SP Man - replacing the CV boots on that car will require that both axles come out.  I'd guess about 4 hours labor plus parts.  A loooong time ago, I replaced a torn boot on a 1st generation Pontiac J2000 with an aftermarket split boot.  Was still intact when I sold the car maybe a year later.  A fix like that is really a temporary fix, but do not cost as much as a OE replacement part.

All for now.

G97P - Good luck on the job!  I can't help thinking of an old Simon and Garfunkel song, "I'm a citizens for boysenberry jam fan!"  Good luck there too?  Smile

Back to work today after 2 days off and already can't wait for the weekend.  We get off next Monday as well, which will be nice.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get moving guys!

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana but still warm.  Family is executing maneuver Roger Tango Foxtrot today, which will make D-day at Normandy look like a simple operation.  One daughter  and husband (down to one vehicle) will drive to other daughter's house and drop off their son there for the weekend.  Daughter's husband will then drop off daughter at my dad's house so she can stay with my dad.  I will exhange  our van with vehicle of other daughter this evening so other daughter can drive down Sunday with both sets of kids and her husband to see dad.  Son and his GF will drive over this weekend to see dad and to bring home the first daughter mentioned and her son.  Simple, huh?   There will be a quiz at the end of the day :-)    Lot of people at funeral home for soccer girl's dad and while I was there I discussed the situation with my dad with the personnel there.  Did not think dad would get out of bed again after I helped wife get him into it yesterday afternoon, but he surprised everybody by getting up last evening.  Hospice nurse will check on him today.  Thank you again for the support.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL, but someone else will have to drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
