growing up in PA. my brother 4 years older than me asked my dad one year why not buy a snow blower my fathers answer why I have 3 goodones right here you and your brothers I don't need to buy one. Laugh.

Yeah we all go in the navy he buys one the enxt year lol so figure. He lost one of us a year to the navy starting in 74 and 77 he bought one .

I never had a snow blower seemed a waste of time to me back when I was younger as had a 4X$ most of the time after I moved out of the house till I got married. and 2 of them had plows so dad was glad to see me come up to pa from MD with the truck and the plow on it.

Oh boy, Jack, I just remotely diagnosed my mom's snowblower problems (she's in Connecticut). It was hilarious, doing it over the phone and from memory (my Toro is all electric). Got it working though....

Jack - not enough people know that the best time to see if the snowblower works and how it works is when its sunny and warm!

Sunny and 30 at Exit 77 (GSP) going down to 22 tonight. Almost 2:30 and our road is still not plowed.

Well that deflection shield worked for you guys as it dumped 25 inches last night! My nieghbor, who works at the local hospital, had to get to work this morning (4:00) and got stuck in front of our house, Wifey, who doesnt sleep, woke me up to go and help him. So of course you do (she said to). For you younger guys life is easier if you say yes. So I got into my Suburban, put it into 4LO and I cleared a path for him, he has a Jeep. But after a quarter mile at the end of the road the county road dept boxed us in with a four foot wall! It took some time to dig through that. All ended good as he got to work.

Hoping all is well,

Ray

Ray.....I feel like a lightweight at just 18 inches of snow up here.  But the consistent 35 mph winds from the North, Northeast, East, and Southeast along with with the 50-60mph gusts piled the snow up against the house, almost had us trapped......couldn't get any of the doors open except for the garage door.  Told the wife she should jump out a first story window and go clear the snow from around the doors but was met with: "SNOW REMOVAL IS MW (MEN'S WORK)!!!!!!!!!!  What a surprise.  Whistling

The snow plows left a four foot compressed pile at the end of our driveway.  The car was buried, so I let that be and worked just to get the essentials done along with the driveway.  Then the wifey announced she wanted to go shopping and that I was to clean off the car and get to work post haste on the end of the driveway. Bang Head  Snow removal has been an on and off project since 11AM.

What would you think of a new neighbor that was struggling with his snowblower which was not working very well?  Sputtering, coughing, and clearing virtually nothing.  He was pushing it!!!!

Went over to see if I could help.  He had left the choke on and the throttle was set at about a third.  Got those things straightened out.  Then looked to see why the self propelled feature was not self propelling.  He had the transmission on the lowest reverse gear while trying to go forward and was pushing the thing!!!!  Once I got that straightened out with him, I asked him why the positraction wasn't working on his snowblower.  "The what?" he asked.  That was a cotter pin of sorts that was placed in the wrong hole on the wheel hub.  Got that straightened out and SHAZAAM, HIS SNOWBLOWER WAS WORKING GREAT!!!  But taking no chances at this point, I had him shut it down so we could check the oil level, which was up to snuff.  Go figure, something was actually right.  Whistling  So then I went and got my snowblower to help him dig his way out.  May the Lord strike me dead if all of what I have posted is not true.  Next I expect his carb will clog due to leaving the gas in it for a year.

Some folks should just not be permitted to use power tools or climb on ladders.  Sorry, Brent, couldn't help myself.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Time for an Ibuprofen break and some trains.

Afternoon all.  Went to a greenhouse/gift shop in north Raleigh on side roads.  Some slick spots but melting.  Main highways wide open.  Might have some slick spots tomorrow AM as going into the high 20's and melting snow standing or running across the highway will freeze.  Shoveled the DOT pile out of my driveway.  No problem at all.  Most of driveway melted.  Especially where we walked and drove.  Official total was 9" here.  A lot of it gone.  Getting breezy with some strong gusts.  Most of the snow has melted or blown out of the trees.

Went to WalMart in Wake Forest.  Had only one door open at far end where food section is.  I called fire marshal as violation.  They had the other two locked and blocked.  Some manager is a dumb A@#.

Think I have last check for the estate so I can close it.Big Smile  About time.  State of NC owed Mom money and it took forever and I used a friendly influance to get it that fast. Bang Head

Haven't checked the Pot in 12 hours and I find I am 2 1/2 pages behind!

Our snow measured 0.0001 inches. The snow shield is working great. Chief, fifedog and the Ohio gang - sorry about the deflection angle.

Fifedog - bundle up tonight, with that cold. You need sheepskin hat, gloves, etc.

No snow here in central Pennsylvania, but cold (20 degrees) and very windy.  After running a few errands in the arctic blasts, I'm back in to run the trains -- including the Lionel 6-29823 PRR boxcar my wife gave me for Christmas.  It's circling the track behind my 675 right now.

Good morning all, cool this morning but sun is shining.  Rain predicted for Wednesday.  We are baby sitting my son's pet  cockateal bird for the next four days while they go to Vegas.  Bird is spoiled because they leave it out of the cage most of the time.  It is raising caine this morning to get out.  I will let him out for a while after breakfast.  We went out yesterday looking for a new table to put the TV on that I got for Christmas.  Found one at Best Buy which you have to assemble yourself, naturally.  Had to order account no stock but will be in on Thursday.  Local folks will be gearing up this week for the Rose Bowl game and the Rose Parade on New Years Day.  I don't even know who is playing yet.  Don't keep up with it when local teams are not there.  USC is inelegible this year because of penalties they incurred for breaking the rules in the past.  You guys in snohio and the South too stay warm.

"He's Mr White Christmas, he's Mr. Snow..."  Can't get that tune outta my head as we are dealing with oppressive windy weather here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Yet, somehow, this was the warmest year on record.  I'd love to grab those doodles and handcuff them to my lamppost for a day. Super Angry  Still battling a severe cold, but gotta go to work this afternoon just the same.

sir james - I believe I predicted 5 victories for the LIONS before the season.  They are the equivalent of the AFC Browns.  Getting better each week, and no one should be looking past them.

From an email I sent last night/this morning @ 1:15AM......

"The roads are empty and the plows are trying desperately to keep up with things.  It is great to be housebound most of the day, able to catch up on a few things, watch football, and run trains around the tree.  We have so much food left over from Christmas Eve, including sinful desserts and other goodies.  The better half made me scrambled eggs with ham and cheddar cheese for breakfast, w. sausages, hashed browns, and English muffins.

The forecasts have changed every hour, and the meteorologists have kept upping the ante.  Current forecasts predict a total snowfall of 18”-20” in my neck of the woods, about 20 miles North of Boston near the ocean.  It should stop snowing in about 12 hours.  Winds have been gusting to 60mph, and the forecast a few minutes ago said the worst of the snow will hit overnight.  A tidal surge is expected to hit around 3AM and will cause coastal flooding, expect some coastal roads to get flooded out, about a mile East of me.  I figure we’ve gotten a foot so far, but the heavy drifting snow makes it a lot worse out in front of the house (faces Southeast) as the winds are coming in from the East.

Earlier I asked the wifey if she wanted to go out with me for a little driving adventure out on the local roads, but she looked at me like I had two heads.  This past January we bought the first AWD vehicle we have ever owned, and I thought it might be fun.  What could possibly go wrong?  Ha ha ha !!!!  Told her if there was the slightest chance I would miss the Patriots game I never would have suggested it.  At least I am truthful !

I was out clearing the rear deck 3 times so we could keep the door clear and the dog could get out for pit stops.  The snow is fairly heavy with the temperatures around 28.  Cleared about 18 inches off the front door, porch, and stairs….and kept the spotlight in the front yard dug out at the wifey’s request, so her Christmas wreath on the front door is kept lluminated.

I need to pop a couple of Ibuprofen and hit the sack.  I am not as young as I used to be.  I had the snowblower fired up and running for about 10 minutes this afternoon so it will be at the ready for my counter-attack in a few hours.  It is backed into the garage so all I have to do is open the door, fire it up, and take off!!!!  True, this is a blizzard.  But by the time it is over, this storm might only make the top 3 in single storm snow accumulation since I moved here in 1987.  We had a 34” single storm blizzard back in 1997, and this one will come nowhere near that one."

Prayers for Blown's friend.  May he recover quick and complete.  BTW: couple from Toronto came to NC to visit.  Said no snow where they live in Toronto and snow here.

Aloha all. No new snow here: that's a switch. It did snow in the city and that didn't seem to hamper the Bears. Worked the sole church service, then took the youngest to try out his new snowboard. He's a natural. Then had to search for live crickets for the dragon: "Rex Flame-o" ... Just back from a dinner out with friends. Hope all of your snow-bunnies out east are doing OK.

Howdy guys - went out for a few essentials today, but mostly watched some tv shows, played on the xbox, and now talking with RT Smile

We watched that Jim Carey Christmas Carol late last night and stayed up too late, ugh.  Made sure I didn't sleep late this morning so I can get some good sleep tonight - gotta go back to paying for Chief's SS benefits tomorrow.

Tardis will be ready shortly, just have to take down some decorations and sweep up from the party last night.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

It was cloudy in SE Indiana.  Had the younger daughter's family up for Christmas today.  Again a good time was had by all.  Chief, most impressive Snohio layering around your neck of the woods.  Prayers going out to all who may be traveling thru the stormy weather.  I had streusel again on the dining car for breakfast.  Lucas and I got "saucy wench's" present assembled.  She is a bit dubious about it, but everyone else likes it.  TBIL and I can drive again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

I hope everyone had a good Christmas.  I didn't have a chance to post yesterday with how crazy things were here.  On the train front, I got the MTH Aerotrain that was cataloged last year and the set of AF 490/492 Northern Pacific PAs that I mentioned previously.  I'll get pictures asap.  The only bad thing that happened was that the Fixed 2 channel on my TIU died.  Not sure how that happened yet.

I've also been enjoying Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on the 360.  Both are great games.

Morning all,

Chief, very pretty pictures.  Reminds me of the Ansel Adams pictures he took in Yosemite National Park in Winter.

We had a nice Christmas day but it rained a little last night.  Our kids gave us a new TV set.  Have to find something to put it on now.

Have a nice week,
