"He's Mr White Christmas, he's Mr. Snow..."  Can't get that tune outta my head as we are dealing with oppressive windy weather here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Yet, somehow, this was the warmest year on record.  I'd love to grab those doodles and handcuff them to my lamppost for a day. Super Angry  Still battling a severe cold, but gotta go to work this afternoon just the same.

sir james - I believe I predicted 5 victories for the LIONS before the season.  They are the equivalent of the AFC Browns.  Getting better each week, and no one should be looking past them.

Good morning all, cool this morning but sun is shining.  Rain predicted for Wednesday.  We are baby sitting my son's pet  cockateal bird for the next four days while they go to Vegas.  Bird is spoiled because they leave it out of the cage most of the time.  It is raising caine this morning to get out.  I will let him out for a while after breakfast.  We went out yesterday looking for a new table to put the TV on that I got for Christmas.  Found one at Best Buy which you have to assemble yourself, naturally.  Had to order account no stock but will be in on Thursday.  Local folks will be gearing up this week for the Rose Bowl game and the Rose Parade on New Years Day.  I don't even know who is playing yet.  Don't keep up with it when local teams are not there.  USC is inelegible this year because of penalties they incurred for breaking the rules in the past.  You guys in snohio and the South too stay warm.

No snow here in central Pennsylvania, but cold (20 degrees) and very windy.  After running a few errands in the arctic blasts, I'm back in to run the trains -- including the Lionel 6-29823 PRR boxcar my wife gave me for Christmas.  It's circling the track behind my 675 right now.

Haven't checked the Pot in 12 hours and I find I am 2 1/2 pages behind!

Our snow measured 0.0001 inches. The snow shield is working great. Chief, fifedog and the Ohio gang - sorry about the deflection angle.

Fifedog - bundle up tonight, with that cold. You need sheepskin hat, gloves, etc.

Sunny and 30 at Exit 77 (GSP) going down to 22 tonight. Almost 2:30 and our road is still not plowed.

Well that deflection shield worked for you guys as it dumped 25 inches last night! My nieghbor, who works at the local hospital, had to get to work this morning (4:00) and got stuck in front of our house, Wifey, who doesnt sleep, woke me up to go and help him. So of course you do (she said to). For you younger guys life is easier if you say yes. So I got into my Suburban, put it into 4LO and I cleared a path for him, he has a Jeep. But after a quarter mile at the end of the road the county road dept boxed us in with a four foot wall! It took some time to dig through that. All ended good as he got to work.

Hoping all is well,

Afternoon all.  Went to a greenhouse/gift shop in north Raleigh on side roads.  Some slick spots but melting.  Main highways wide open.  Might have some slick spots tomorrow AM as going into the high 20's and melting snow standing or running across the highway will freeze.  Shoveled the DOT pile out of my driveway.  No problem at all.  Most of driveway melted.  Especially where we walked and drove.  Official total was 9" here.  A lot of it gone.  Getting breezy with some strong gusts.  Most of the snow has melted or blown out of the trees.

Went to WalMart in Wake Forest.  Had only one door open at far end where food section is.  I called fire marshal as violation.  They had the other two locked and blocked.  Some manager is a dumb A@#.

Think I have last check for the estate so I can close it.Big Smile  About time.  State of NC owed Mom money and it took forever and I used a friendly influance to get it that fast. Bang Head

Ray.....I feel like a lightweight at just 18 inches of snow up here.  But the consistent 35 mph winds from the North, Northeast, East, and Southeast along with with the 50-60mph gusts piled the snow up against the house, almost had us trapped......couldn't get any of the doors open except for the garage door.  Told the wife she should jump out a first story window and go clear the snow from around the doors but was met with: "SNOW REMOVAL IS MW (MEN'S WORK)!!!!!!!!!!  What a surprise.  Whistling

The snow plows left a four foot compressed pile at the end of our driveway.  The car was buried, so I let that be and worked just to get the essentials done along with the driveway.  Then the wifey announced she wanted to go shopping and that I was to clean off the car and get to work post haste on the end of the driveway. Bang Head  Snow removal has been an on and off project since 11AM.

What would you think of a new neighbor that was struggling with his snowblower which was not working very well?  Sputtering, coughing, and clearing virtually nothing.  He was pushing it!!!!

Went over to see if I could help.  He had left the choke on and the throttle was set at about a third.  Got those things straightened out.  Then looked to see why the self propelled feature was not self propelling.  He had the transmission on the lowest reverse gear while trying to go forward and was pushing the thing!!!!  Once I got that straightened out with him, I asked him why the positraction wasn't working on his snowblower.  "The what?" he asked.  That was a cotter pin of sorts that was placed in the wrong hole on the wheel hub.  Got that straightened out and SHAZAAM, HIS SNOWBLOWER WAS WORKING GREAT!!!  But taking no chances at this point, I had him shut it down so we could check the oil level, which was up to snuff.  Go figure, something was actually right.  Whistling  So then I went and got my snowblower to help him dig his way out.  May the Lord strike me dead if all of what I have posted is not true.  Next I expect his carb will clog due to leaving the gas in it for a year.

Some folks should just not be permitted to use power tools or climb on ladders.  Sorry, Brent, couldn't help myself.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Time for an Ibuprofen break and some trains.

Jack - not enough people know that the best time to see if the snowblower works and how it works is when its sunny and warm!

Oh boy, Jack, I just remotely diagnosed my mom's snowblower problems (she's in Connecticut). It was hilarious, doing it over the phone and from memory (my Toro is all electric). Got it working though....

growing up in PA. my brother 4 years older than me asked my dad one year why not buy a snow blower my fathers answer why I have 3 goodones right here you and your brothers I don't need to buy one. Laugh.

Yeah we all go in the navy he buys one the enxt year lol so figure. He lost one of us a year to the navy starting in 74 and 77 he bought one .

I never had a snow blower seemed a waste of time to me back when I was younger as had a 4X$ most of the time after I moved out of the house till I got married. and 2 of them had plows so dad was glad to see me come up to pa from MD with the truck and the plow on it.

I got your thingy right here, boy - let's go!

A little cool this morning.  Took wife to labs and all is pretty good.  Her potassium is a little low though?  She missed some meds due to a mix up by the hospital staff though, so we're hopeful it will all even out soon.

Good evening all.

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  Took the two grandsons to the Eiteljorg Museum in Indy.  It is a Western Museum (go figure in Indiana, like having a Southern museum in Alaska), but the Indiana Railroad sponsored a several train operating layout (all G) of various sights in Indianapolis and out West (Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Yellowstone, etc.)   The scenes were spectacular and the buildings quite interesting.  They plan to return each year from around the first of November thru the first of January. The boys had a good time and there were some interactive areas for the kids in other parts of the museum.  Did a lot of running today, but the next six days are mine to relax and enjoy.  I had sauasges and waffles on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Well I see the post I created yesterday did not post.  Oh well, I don't think anyone missed anything.

With all the snow going around, I wouldn't mind having it for about a week, that I could handle.  If I were living back there I don't think I would surrvive, I don't remember the first thing about winterizing and preparation.  It would be fun though.  Hope you guys dont get more than you can handle, or causes any damage.

We had another inch of rain, as SP Ray reported.  The snow covered mountains around here have been beautiful !

Been doing a bunch of minor repairs in the train room, seems like the more I do, the more I find.  Speaking of fixing stuff, had water dripping into the train room from the ceiling this morning.  And it was HOT water !  Directly above the leak is the shower/bath.  Just had that room redone about 5 years ago, of course accessibility is a real issue.  Was able to get behind the tub to check plumbing, couldn't find ANY source.  But sure found a lot of wet wood.  Finally, I think the source is the valve, I took the face plate off and found quite a bit of corrosion.  Of course can't buy a replacement valve cartridge, however Price-Pfister offers a lifetime warranty.  So they are sending out a replacement.  Sure hope that is the problem.

Been playing around with Facebook, but havn't devoted much time to it.  Getting so time spent on the computer with work an all, doesn't leave a lot of time for other things.  So the last thing I need is to develop another time stealer.  (On the other hand, sure have met a lot of great people via the computer!)

Take care, and be carefull removing the snow!

Don

Good night all.  Cold but most of melted walk and drive are dry.  Off to bed.

Shake and Bake, good luck on the plumbing.

RT, you had better by-pass NC.  Go through TN or swim around to the east. Devil

Jack, nothing like being out in the cold and blowing snow. Whistling

Don.....this happened to me in the kitchen sink.  The retracting Price Pfister head went bad.  Found my receipt and the lifetime warranty stuff, YAHOO!  I asked the Wife what color replacement she wanted and she looked at me (like I had two heads) and emphatically said the same as we had.....white.  So I called and PF sent one right out N/C!!!!  When I received it, the Wife looks at it and remarks "I think I want the all-chrome colored one."  Bang Head  So I called PF back and they sent out a second one N/C and told me to keep the white one as well !!!!!!

My leaking Price Pfister issue was not a product failure.  My son was using the sprayer nozzle head as a hammer on the edge of the sink and the variable spray head had cracked.

Morning all.  Sunny and warmer.  Melting fast.  Nothing much to do today.  Might do some train running.  May do some fox shooting this afternoon.  Saw some tough videos of the folks in MA.  One on the news showed a house burning but fire dept could not reach it as everything was flooded due to storm surge.  Did hear that Amtrac was backed up.  Don't your Yanks have snow plows on the front of your engines?  CSX I bet. Whistling  I heard CSX running last night at midnight going through Wake Forest and was headed north.  Strange as only runs to Warrenton and back.  Never that time of day.

Mornin' All.

I swear the past three days have just been a blurr. Christmas went great, but busy, followed by two consecutive days with the Kid's Club at the museum. Dead  Will be running again on New Year's Eve and Day, the friday regulars try to make it a fun New Year's Day by inviting our spouses for a luncheon w/champagne.

Today is clean up the mud and try to get the drains clear so the swamp in the yard can drain with this next rain coming tomorrow. This is supposed to be a really cold storm with lots of snow in the local mountains.

Ordered one of those DCS Remote Cmndr sets so I can have limited DCS on my ceiling track and the munchkin's Thomas Table (Thumbs Up), unfortunately it hasn't arrived yet (Thumbs Down). Grumpy

Time to refill the mug !

Later Y'all.

Good morning all, another sunny day but rain due tomorrow.  I miss seeing all that snow you Eastern guys are getting but glad I don't have to deal  with it.

Don, hope you have found out what caused the leak.  I had a problem under our bathtub once.  It turned out to be the drain was broken and water was getting under the tub and then spreading to other places.  Finally got it diagnosed by some experts and got in a good plumber to fix it up.

Been running trains a little bit each day while weather is good to get out to garage.  My new Southern Railway PS4 is getting a workout but also running my N&W steam engines A, J, and Y6B.  I run my ACL F units once in a while but I had the electronics taken out when board failed.  Still missing regular headlight but mars light works.

Got a copy of a newspaper story about a friend of mine who is a train buddy.  The story was about his younger days when he was in the circus and was once a part of the famous Flying Wallenda High Wire Troupe.  He had a wire up in his back yard when I met him back in 1971 and he taught his kids and me too how to walk the wire with a balancing pole.  Now I'm doing good just to crawl under my layout.

I'm still baby sitting #1 son's bird today.  He is spoiled and wants to be out of the cage all the time.  Yesterday I had trouble getting him back in the cage.  Took me quite a while.  I finally just had to grab him and he bit me hard.  I have to be careful not to injure him.

We had a ham for Christmas so last night we went out for a change after being hammed out.  I had spaghetti.  Wife had fish.  It was nice just to get out of the house for a while.

Talk at you later,

Ray

Morning to All and a belated Merry Christmas,

Had very busy few days as Son and his GF were here for Christmas from Thursday until  Monday. Christmas Day we went to my sister's and had a nice time with gift exchanges and great food.  Came home late that night.  Monday BIL and SIL and two teen-aged kids came for a visit.  Last night the Mrs., Son and GF went out for Mexican dinner at local place.  Very enjoyable.  Son and GF left last night after we returned from dinner.

This AM I had a bit of a scare. I was down on the floor running the Standard Gauge trains around the tree and when I got up off the floor I experienced considerable pain from an umbilical hernia.  I was trying to hold off surgery until summer when there are no kiddos in school but I might not wait now.  I called the Dr. and he said to apply ice and then try massaging it.  Seems to have done the trick, for now. Probably going to call tomorrow to schedule surgery sooner rather than later.

We were going to make a run to Roots Market in Manheim and make a stop at Barry's Train Shop but decided not to go because we will have a busy day tomorrow with a dinner with friends and spend the night at their place. Maybe I'll hit Barry's some other time. I've never been there so I want to visit soon.

Well, I better sign off for now.  Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year if I don't post again until the new year.

Take care,

Mitch

Afternoon Fellas.

Been a few since I popped in, so thought I would drop by and say "Hello".

Christmas was nice, The Q surprised me with a nice photo of Western Maryland 314 for the trainroom. I'll try and take a pic, but doubt it will do it justice. She also bought me the Hallmark Scout set, so I guess it may be time to invest in a small tree for the train room (I have a lot of the Hallmark ornaments so it would be kinda cool).

My 'coolest' gift was the Lego Shuttle Adventure set. Put it together and it is sitting on the hutch in the home office.

Now on the NS ABA units.  I put a want to buy on OGR.  Got prices of $2,000 to $4,000.  I laughed.  Now if you notice your newer CTT, Williams is reproducing them for around $390.  Buy an ERR kit and upgrade and I can save money.

Looks good to me nice car.
