Hey guys...

Hope all your Christmas plans and preparations are going well.  Been busy but having a good time.

We're really getting a soaking!  Rain started yesterday evening and as of now we have had 4", I'm sure that doesn't seem like much to you guys, but were going to be setting records here I'm sure.  Heard earlier tonight some areas have had 7" all ready.  Got the pump running in the pool, have drained it down a total of 5", in anticipation of overnight rain.

Went to the "Big Train Show" yesterday, hooked up with a couple of guys and helped them spend some money.  One bought a Daylight set, and the other bought some buildings and rolling stock.  The guy that got the building is expanding the layout to accommodate them.  The Daylight was purchased because it was there, he has enough trains to open a big hobby shop.  But they were enjoying it so that's what matters.  Was looking for Ray, but didn't see him, wasn't sure if he was going to the show Sat. or Sunday.

I did pick up an Estate House, at the show, and got it incorporated into my layout today.   Also, cut-out and installed some "cobblestone" drive ways and sidewalks.  Looks pretty good. Wife spent the day doing the last of the inside decorations, boy does it ever look Christmasy!  Tomorrow is "baking day", so the aroma's will be wonderful, good day to stick around the house.  Had a REAL enjoyable day!  Lot better than working!

Best wishes for all !!

Sunny and 40's today.

Wife had a follow up appointment for her back on Friday.  Her back is healing well. The doctor wants her to start PT.  Wish her knee was improving.  The 'knee grease' shot she got a couple weeks ago does not seem to have helped.  The back doctor says she needs a good knee to properly rehab the back.  We will start thinking about knee replacement after the holidays - and after the deductuable re-sets to zero on the insurance too Grumpy.

Welcome club ladies are coming over tomorrow night to play cards.  I don't remember who sait it, but hiding in a corner until they leave sounds like a good idea.

Scored a #3361 log dump car on e-bay the other day for cheap.  Ought to be here soon.  LHS says some of the Lionel items I have on order are due in this week.

Just three more days to work this year.

All for now.

Good evening all,

It was cloudy in SE Indiana with temps in the 20s.  Weather supposed to turn bad again this week.  Latest Narnia is ok.  Checked the series of books and this was from the fifth book.  Read the last one and decided this was probably the last movie they will make.  Not too much action in last book .  Spent day at eldest for oldest grandchild's sixth birthday.  Ran the Scout set last night for almost an hour.  Very smooth.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Chief,

The only solution I am thinking of regarding the vandalism involves razorwireOops, but then again that probavly isn't the best approach.

Jack,

I still haven't finished the Christmas layout either.  I need to get it done tonight.  Brent probably beat both of us.

Fife,

As long as you are buying, I'd like one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtoSDYW_Goo  But, I'd also be happy with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdWpVUHX0hc  Big Smile

I had all intentions of finishing the Christmas layout last night, but I couldn't find the tin snips to cut some fitter sections.  After about an hour, I found them along with a soldering iron that I haven't seen in at least six years.

Walked easement and found nothing new.  Went to Lowes and got new locks and a few duplicate keys.  Only "key" persons getting a key from now own.  Jason [Conceal Carry Instructor that uses the range for his classes] is making up membership cards.  Try to be nice to everyone but then one or two spoil the "pie".   Fair and cold now.  Staying inside tonight and watching old Christmas movies.

Later.

Call it liquid sunshine, call it heavy dew, but up close it looks just like rain.  No kidding!  The monsoon is still with us.  It rained most of the day yesterday, all night and is still raining today with more predicted for the next 4 or 5 days.  If this stuff turns to snow somewhere back East when it gets there, it will be a blizzard.  Hope not for you guys back there.  I've been waiting for a let up so I can get out and start a siphon on my swimming pool to pump out some excess water but I haven't been able to get out there all morning.  Looks like I will just have to get wet to do it.

#2 son is out chasing a Christmas special train this morning in all the rain to get pictures?  It is a train operated by Amtrak over our local commuter line.  Every year they give a train ride to children patients at City of Hope which is a local cancer hospital located on the rail line.

Did not make it to TCA Christmas meet yesterday because of other commitments.  Wish I could  have.  Saw some pictures of it this morning.  Looks like a good time was had by those attending.  There was a 1950 Lionel Hudson to be awarded as one of the raffle prizes but don't know who won.  From the pictures, it looked like my friend Richard Keppel was there demonstrating his operating stationary steam engines and accessories.

Got to get ready for 11:30AM mass

Have a good day,

Afternoon all.  Going to walk the easement/path at the lease.  Armed of course.  Now wearing backpack with big shooting bag for weight.  Will get me in shape.  After first of the year, back to the gym [unless I have to have neck surgery].  Hope no surprises today at the lease.  Then up and work on train room.  Was warm this AM but now windy and makes for a cool wind chill.  Snohio did not make it here.  Turned to rain as the REB army heated the atmosphere at snow making level [per weatherpeson] and so nothing but rain last night.  Failed Yankee snow cannon attack.

Later.

Aloha mates! Great reminder, Jack!   A brisk 11. Just back from dropping off the bride and youngest at church - he sings n the choir all day and she prays before services. I'll drag the teens over later. Bad news about the busted car - parts on back-order, we may not have it before Christmas. Oh well, just an inconvenience. Still haven't killed the lizard, nor has it been discovered. Remembered a nice app to send a free personalized video message from the Big Man at the North Pole (not The Big Man upstairs Wink - He doesn't need video) to our youngest. Its at http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/home

Good luck on your promotion test, Joe. Prayers continue for a good, right job, Rich. Stay safe and dry, Ray

Had Sam Addams Seasonal in Fife's honor last eve, and a Berghoff Amber for Jack Big Smile  Looking forward to trying to catch the Bears-Vikings playing in the frozen tundra later today.

Full plate yesterday, more of the same today.  We have a road trip to NH on tap for a couple of things, won't get home until after 10PM.  Our plate is too full, need to slow down and get off the tread mill.....otherwise, the season to be merry will become the season to be burned out and feeling unfulfilled.

Friday I chatted with a friend of ours who recently had (apparently successful) cancer surgery and was feeling overwhelmed.  "Too many things" not getting done for Christmas.  She was down and stressed.

I could only remind her of the way things were just a couple of months ago for her and steer the conversation to all things that are so good in her life.  Health, happiness, and family........after that, there is not much that is so important it can't be put off or discarded all together.  Is it me, or do the folks around you seem particularly stressed this holiday season?

I just hope we can all just let a few things fall off the plate and enjoy what we have.  Otherwise, the important things take on no more significance in our minds than the unimportant, and we wind up feeling pressured and unfulfilled.

Please accept my apologies for this pontification.  I for one don't even have my trains set up around the tree.....yet.  This is the latest in the previous 22 years that I have not gotten this pulled together by mid December and it is bothering me.  I'll just have to "git er done" and then backfill all of the time that has been missed running them with my granddaughters.  Big Smile  Wifey:  "Jack....are you cleaning up the pine needles in the LR?"  Jack: "Oh yes dear." as I pick them up one at a time and drop them into a passing open gondola.

Best regards and wishes for a good day for all.  Tomorrow will take care of iself.

Jack

PS:  Speaking of feeling unfulfilled, I will miss all of the football games today!!

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Good morning everyone.  John B., you are welcome sir.  And thanks for the email...that guy does tell it like it is, but with colorful language!  Chief, be careful.  Seems like a good time to steak it out and prosecute the intruder.  With regard to that suicide by cop incident, that is a shame.  As if cops don't have a lot to deal with in domestic calls, burglaries, car accidents..... you name it, and now they have to deal with that.  As Ray said, they did what they had to do, but now they have to live with it.

Getting ready for church.  We have the pastor of the church we are sponsoring in San Francisco here to preach this morning and then the Annie Moses Band tonight.  Should be a good time.  It will be the first time I will hear this preacher, but I have heard the AMB several times and they are great!

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Overcast and 27 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  On tap today is laundry, layout, and football.  Met grand"pup" last night.  Already 9 lbs and a cutie.  Was a good moment for yours truly.  Took youngest princess to Wise Ave VFD for their Christmas display.  The hall was packed, which I consider a good thing.  Then we had a "daddy date" to a local waterfront restaurant.  It was amazing how prim-and-proper Lexi is when it's just the two of us.

anjdevil - A little "hot stove" symposium ---> Yes  Good luck with the interview.  Middle princess will be spending Christmas break on Medic 47.  Can't wait to put all the hours of training and classroom to use.  She has become a favorite of one of the old salts there, so she'll be fine.

Good night, Rich - hope you feel better in the morning!  Thanks for the prayers guys, she seems to be better every day now.  She's taking Chief's advice and eating and getting stronger.  Chief - good luck, hope they catch those creeps.  Prayers for those officers that had to deal with that suicidal whacko.

Nothing much got done today - played some video games, did the grocery shopping, about finished with the Christmas shopping, and had nice chats with RT and SJ.  Prayers for all of us and our friends and family.

Tardis is ready and we have Becks, Old Mills, Blue Moons, Sam Adams, and some LITE beer, as well as banilla, cookies, and rootbeer!  I'll be over in a few minutes so turn on the beacons!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' guys!

Princess is safe at "home", got very teary eyed when I saw her.  Very Happy.

Spent the day jumping out of 2nd story windows with a new "bailout" system.  3 times with out a pack, 3 times with a pack and 3 times with a pack blindfolded.  I was good with it.  A little achey right now, was going head first out windows.

Friday went to Newark, NJ for the Devils game....they lost, but I was on the ice to shoot for a new Ford - missed both shots at the net.

Very busy with water rescues and vehicle rescues last couple of days.  1 big car fire and a few flase alarms.

Have interview Monday @ 11.  Had a phone call about another opportunity today during training.

Got sick during the week, and I hope this cold is gone soon.  I have things to do!!

Fife - since you asked...a Jersey Central Camelback (Lionel, please!) otherwise we have to get together during the winter at your place again!  And when I get MY place....

Going to bed, stay safe and warm guys!  WIll check back soon!

Evening all

Lots of snow on the ground.  Kids have been having fun.  Finally got some outside lights up.  I'll put up a few more tomorrow.   Got a ceramic house at Lowes 40% off, the Weaver House from It's a Wonder life movie, got it for $14.  I plan on putting it under the tree with the Polar Express after the packages are opened in less than a week.

Fife - A Circus Train

Laz - Serious about the Black Lab?

Chief - Be careful, the wackos may have a chip on their shoulder and a six pack in their gut.

Continued prayers for all who need them, especially Char,

May God bless

Good evening all,

It's been a week or so since I last posted.  I've been checking in every now and then to keep up on the posts, but I have not had much time to write.  I took this past week off from work to study for a promotion test next week.  I have not studied as much as I wanted, but I have been able to spend more time with the wife and baby.  I have also been able to knock out some house chores and finish up the Christmas shopping.

It appears everyone is doing well and some of you are even enjoying some snow.  Brutus - It's great Char is home and I hope it remains that way.

I take the test Monday so my days will return to normal after that.

Regards,

Joe

Good evening all, just back from Christmas show at local college.  It was a great show with lots of music.  College kids put on a real Broadway quality show with live ochestra.  I like the production number of "We need a little Christmas" best.  They had people flying through the air like Peter Pan during the show.  It was impressive.  Some members of the student body must have been behind us.  They hooted and hollered for every act.  I thought they were drunk at first but decided they were just enthusiastic.  Hard to remember when I was that crazy.  Don't think we ever were.  They would escourt you out back then.  The weather here still stinks.  It has rained all day and we had to take umbrellas to the show.  Wife and I are going out to eat now with #2 son rain or no rain.  You gotta eat!   Got hold of something that didn't agree with me earlier today and it kept me busy for a while but things seem better now after some meds and time.  Gotta get something tame tonight.

Chief, that was a sad story of suicide by law inforcement.  I feel for the cops that had no choice.  I had one suicide that jumped in front of my train once.  It is a helpless feeling but nothing you can do.  It was their choice, not mine.  It just makes you angry for someone to involve you in something like that.  I sympathize with the police officers.

Hope all you guys back East survive all the snohio coming your way.  Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas season.

Had snow, sleet [lots] and rain.  Then some flurries and then rain.  Nothing now.

Saga continues.  Since 9:45 last night when I put lock on uppper cable, someone vandalized Fred's double seat deer stand near that cable.  I drove up around 2 PM to feed and the camo skirtting [cable tied] was hanging over the cable.  Sticks fixed to adjust the front bar to make it as a "bench rest" were thrown in the bushes.  A section of old tire [folks use to dump on this property] was up on the floor.  An old 55 gallon barrel that was behind the tree [that the stand was attached too] was thrown in front of the stand.  Called Sheriff's Dept.  Took them 2 hours to respond as they had big shooting west of Wake Forest.

Guy had a domestic with wife last night.  Went to mother-in-laws to get his wife saying he was going to kill her and any cops that came.  BIL called 911.  When deputies arrived, he came out with gun pointed.  BIL witnessed the account.  They told him to drop the gun and and let them his hands.  He refused and went for them.  All three deputies shot him.  He died later at Wake Med.  His Mother was on TV and said they shot him several times all over but she did NOT blame the Sheriff's Dept.  He was suicidal.  She was shown on TV hugging the Sheriff.  He committed suicide by law enforcement.  Couldn't do it himself.  Sad.

SNOWING again lightly.  Off to SIL's for a drop by.

Later.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  Scout set is running again.  I got the original PowerMax transformer back and hooked that up.  Runs just fine.  Turns out it starts the voltage at 0.  The CW-80 I was using when I had the problem must have a higher initial setting.  I seem to recall some of the first Thomas sets had the same problem.  You would think Lionel would learn or at least let people know about it.  Lucas is home and they have been busy doing stuff here.  Will go to movie tonight instead.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning all,  Don B. and I are bracing for the Pineapple express.  It rained all morning, a little break now but more on the way.  A lot of moisture heading East after it goes through here.

Finished giving out Christmas baskets at church this morning.  All went well with only a few no shows.  They can pick up next Monday if they still want one.

Getting ready for "Christmas Is" show at Citrus college this afternoon.  Will meet some friends there for the performance.  Got to run, more rain falling now.

Morning.  Good to see another Southerner [BabeRuth] on here.  Run over ot Columbia and get that Carpetbagger [RT].  Cloudy and chilly.  May have a mix by morning or may not.  Mainly a cold rain.  Rain we need as pond is not going over the spillway and usually it is by now.  Got up late, cooked breakfast and then watched a John Wayne on Westerns channel.  Seems no matter how many times I watch his movies, still an enjoyment.

Seems that Shake and Bake is going to change to Slippy Slidey.  She'll be coming down the mountain when it rains. Music Whistling

Work in train room later.
