Aloha all. Stayed home to go to the youngest' parent-teacher mtgs, have some things to work on with our pediatrician. Almost 70 and not even noon yet. Too bad it's raining off and on.  SJ, did you get the flannel PJs with the feet on them? Wink   I get a kick out of everyone who wear PJs as 'clothes' - they look like they just woke up. Probably comfortable.  Fife, any pirate sightings in the bay this season? Ray, I love that layout at Cal-Stewart.  I too saw that kid in the corner of the photo ready to walk in... Dennis, great news about that donation - our location is in a local industrial park. LOL.

SIR JAMES,

AU NATURAL for me.  Love  the freedom.

laz57

Laz, TMI  Just kidding.  We used to be the same way....till kids came along.  With regard to buying PJ bottoms/tops, we have found some types for the women have choices for tops/bottoms, but we suffer.  I do have some bottoms and wear T-shirts with them.  Mostly though, just keep a handy pair of shorts and a T-shirt to throw on in a quick need.

Doug, our main church is located in a mostly suburban part of the city and draws people from 15 surrounding communities, but many of the churches in the poor areas of the city have moved out to more areas where the people look like the rest of the church.  Our pastor suggests he would rather a church that looked more like heaven.  By having this new location, we can bring more of the forgotten to church.  I am not sure how the administration is planning on working out services and logistics.

Hope everyone has a blessed day.
Dennis

Brent,

Out of curiousity, what kind of tree are you getting?  We switched to an artificial tree about 4 years ago, and I didn't think I'd like it.  Aside from the lose of the pine smell, I don't miss the hassles of a real tree.  Plus, an artificial tree is straight, so it won't come down on you while you are on the floor with a ZW. Not cool.

I finally got the 314AW back together on Saturday night after having some linkage issues.  Should have kept the gutted one to strip as it would have been a big help.  Next up is to put the DC 332 back together after a smoke unit rebuild.  Just picked up a Flyer 30B for a good price.

Probe - haven't decided yet. It will definitely be artificial since The Q has some pretty serious allergies. Although in the sun room a real tree would not be an issue (real easy to sweep/vac up the needles on a tile floor and since the sun room has no heat vents there is no where dangerous for the needles to fall). I've only ever had one tree fall over the years. I put them up and let them be for about 3 days before I decorate. This allows for the limbs to 'fall' and the tree to settle into its final resting place before being decked out for the holidays. Big Smile

I've been looking at 7.5' tall trees pre-lit with either regular or LED lights. The LED pre-lits are hard to find in-stores, and I detest buying a tree online (I like to feel how stiff the branches are because I have some older ornaments that tend to weight a little bit). I saw a couple at Home Depot, Lowes, and BJs Warehouse that I am interested in... will keep you posted.

Brent,

What is the light output like with the LED prelits?  We tried strings of LEDs that looked like regular C7 or C9 bulbs, but went back to regular bulbs due to the low light output.   The tree that we have came from Tree Classics.

That done now to relax for the night. Got January CTT mag in the mail today mailman must of been reading it as usually I get mine same time chief gets his and hes had his a couple of days now. And I normally beat SJ by at least 2 days.

Evening all

Been out and about.  Last Thursday and Friday helped with the senior class retreat, it was really neat.  Great bunch of kids.  Weekend went by  way too fast.

Fife - so sorry for lossing your friend.  We really get close to these critters.  As I type our Schnauser is on my lap pushing her nose under my hands to pet her.

Jim - The linkage can be a pain.  Take a picture of each side berore you take it apart.  That helps me put it back together.

Chief- Get a Neddi Pot ad wash out your sinus.  It's gross but works.

Laz - sounds like agreat weekend

Rich - Good luck with the interviews

May God bless

Mostly cloudy today.  Started out almost 70 this morning, is now headed into the 30's.

jefelectric - Was that Branson, Mo.?  That is about an hour and a half from me.  Ya know, we have lived here for 7 years and have never taken the time to visit Branson.  How was it?  Other than the bus, was it worth the trip?

Work decided that we need some more parts on one of my prototype programs tonight.  Had to pull the guys off of assembling dies for the next prototype program to make these suprise parts.  Will have to go back in toinght to tinker with the last die to get the changes we want.  Got a full day of must do's tomorrow.  Not quite sure how that is going to work out now that I'm going to be in the plant in the wee hours of the morning...  As one of my old managers used to say "sleep is over rated".

All for now.

Jim,

What happened was that the rivet connecting the linkage at the crosshead was loose and let the linkage move too much.  When the crosshead was at the end of the rearward stroke, the linkage joint on the other side of the crosshead link straightened and moved upward towards the boiler.  As the crosshead tried to move forward, I heard a loud metal on metal sound and it locked up as the linkage bent.  I've never heard of or seen a linkage issue like that before.  I am just glad it is fixed.

John, guess I posted over you last night - sorry to hear you didn't have fun in Branson.  I've been there a few times, but the last time was like 25 years ago.  It was a lot of fun - loved Silver Dollar City and the Shepherd of the Hills play.   8NT - I think it's well worth the trip, but check what is going on.  Sometimes they have lots of crafts and stuff.

Thanks Dennis - yeah, I got the promotion!  I'm a Decision Review Officer now :)  Woohoo!  Tardis is ready, we'll use the way-back circuit to get Mike and others, and banilla is on me boys!

Good early morning guys.  Brutus, I figured you would pull it off.  Your hard work, the fact that you go to teach others, and a whole lot of prayer.  Congratulations again.  I hope it affords you some time with the family.

Chief, I too have a Netti Pot, but have yet to use it.  It certainly does clear out the sinus cavity, and from what I have heard, it makes you feel a lot better.  That and some nice Hot tea with honey in it do plenty for getting one through such a time.

Fife, we have our two dogs who passed in nice boxes after they were cremated.  I never did bury them as I would hate to move and leave them here.  It was a very dark time around our house when we lost them.  The female we had to put down because of a problem with her spine and she was not able to walk or see.  While it was the right decision, it still was tough.

I go in later this morning and have been given a short list from SWMBO to put the tree up, and get the rest of the decorations down from the attic.  It is a walk in attic, so no big deal, but a big flight of stairs to bring them all down.

Hope to check in later.
God Bless,
Dennis

Hello all,

Haven’t taken the time to post lately.

Brutus, Congratulations!!!! Thumbs UpWowYeah

Finished gathering the last of the leaves this weekend. Have to get some equipment put under shelter for the winter now that the excess hat has been sold and moved out.

Son is now washing down locomotive engine blocks in preparation for re-assembly. He also has his eye on a night shift opening that would allow him to be off on weekends instead of mid week.

Looking forward to deer hunting on Monday. Need to get out and fire a few rounds over the weekend.

On Christmas tree lights. About 20 years ago we started using the old C-6 light strings. If one goes out they all go out. I use a dimmer to reduce the light level and extend lamp life.

Most of our ornaments are antique. Mrs and I collected them at auctions and flea markets. We used artificial trees for years but recently went back to a real tree.

Fife, sorry about Lassie. Have you tried glucosamine? We had a 125 lb. Doberman that started having problems. One of my coworkers suggested it. It took about a month to see improvement but it really helped him. For four years he did well. Then he went down hill fast and at eleven years old we had to make the decision to end his misery.

Best get back to work. Have a safe & happy Thanksgiving. Good luck  to all the hunters next week.

Prayers for all who need them

Aloha all. Yesterday, it was 68, today it is 22. Quite the change. It think warm weather is gone until Spring. Ah well. More time in the basement! Hearty congrats to BrutusBrent, I hear you about eyeballing a tree - our artificial one is pretty sturdy - I have it stored in two 55 gall drums the rest of the year. You gotta built it branch by branch. Got me one of those shunt-closing light-fixer 'guns' to try on the gigantic ball 'o unlighting lights I couldn't bring myself to get rid of ... we set up Christmas on Friday - after T'giving.  I think the Chief thought it was Laz sharing TMI, Pat. Wink  Daughter and boyfriend come home tonight for a few days. She's not feeling well. Hope she doesn't bring any illness home as she's supposed to work a billion hours too. Dennis, I agree with your pastor wholeheartedly. We're doing the same thing launching another site by Easter.

The youngest just asked my bride if we have to stomp on the cranberries to get them ready. I say yes! Who's with me? Yes

Good morning all,

It is cooler in SE indiana.  i spaced on posting earlier this morning.  Internal systems are finally back to working semi-normally (nothing is normal for me).

Wife went to see her BIL yesterday and I will go today.  I will not mince words here.  His life is basically in God's Hands as there are three clots threatening him.  The one in the heart is a "dangling" one and could break away anytime.  If it does, it is "game over".  Normally this would call for open heart surgery, but the treatment for the tumor has precluded some of what can be done.  Prayers are being asked for here.

Lucas and his GF will be home tonight.  Both will be put to work helping to get house ready for Thanksgiving.  Not much else to report.  Congrats, Brutus, on the promotion!  Could not have happened to a more deserving person.  I had english muffins and cereal for breakfast on the dining car.  TBIL after "Glee".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning all, cold morning here (for California).  Rain seems to be over with sunny cool weather predicted for the week.  Trying to get back to normal after Cal Stewart weekend.  Played with my new toys yesterday.  I worked on the trailer and flatcar I bought and finally got it glued back together.  It barely fits through the Lionel vertical lift bridge however.  Added new scale GGD baggage car to my Daylight train and ran that for a while.  Haven't decided where to put the new hook and ladder fire truck yet but it looks good in front of my fire station.

In the "when it rains it pours department", a friend of ours from church who's husband is just home recoverying from surgery, fell out of bed one night this week and cut her head requiring stitches.  Her husband had to take her to emergency room.  He is still recovering from gaul bladder surgery.  We need to pray for them and keep in touch.

Hoping my 16 pound turkey will  be thawed  out by tomorrow.  We took it out of freezer on Sunday morning and put it in refrigerator.  We want to cook it ahead of time on Wednesday and serve it on Thanksgiving.  We will be too busy on Thursday getting ready for a trip on Friday to do a lot of cooking .

Mike C. Prayers for your BIL.

Have a good day all,

Ray

Fife, so sorry.  While any of us who have had one of Man's best friends, most of us come to that point in time.  In a perfect world, they would be with us always and leave with us in the end.  I will pray that you and your family find much peace in Lassie's memories.  Good looking dog.

Chief, Is it a tower ladder?  I know the newer ones go for a pretty penny.  Lots of regulations drive up the cost.  Do you have volunteers in your department?  That saves a lot of money on salaries.  Hope it comes in soon and serves your growing town well.  We have county-wide paid here.  Though I think many of the guys work in a neighboring county as well.  Pay here is significantly less than where I worked up in jersey.

Well, time to finish putting up the tree.  Hope everyone has a blessed night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Fife......I am grieving with you and your family at the loss of your beautiful Lassie.  I will leave you with the thoughts written by English poet, Lord Byron, at the loss of his faithful dog:

Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And All the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
