Good evening all,

Just put the kids to bed and now I am getting ready to wind down for the night.  Took the family out to Applebees for dinner tonight.  I don't care for that place much, but our daughter picked it and the wife seconded it.  Looking forward to Friday.

Not much else is going on (which is nice); I may watch the high school football game on ESPN2 tonight.  Abilene, TX, is playing Midland, TX.  We used to live in Abilene and those TX folks take their high school football very seriously.

Regards,

Joe

Evening all

Like Joe got the kids in bed and winding down.  Also, like Joe, I don't care for Applebees either.  Way too noisy and it seems like it takes forever to get waited on.

Picked up a 768G Oil Supply Depot on ebay with a buy it now.  It is the Gulf version of the 768.  I have the Shell version but got lucky on the Gulf version.  If it is as nice as it looks in the pics I did OK price wise.

Well, I think we are going to get a Honda Oddysse, now to find one we like.  We may go and get a 2010.  I'll keep the Avalon and sell my Civic to youngest daughter.  Going to miss that Civic.  Great car.

Going to take Gabriel camping this weekend with the cub scouts.  Should be fun.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

I am off to do some reading then to bed

MAy God bless you

Good evening everyone.  Many pages have passed by in the week that I have been gone.  Sorry I didn't post about it, but we don't advertise when we are away from the house.  Last Friday, after a long day with a number of cases, the family drove down to NASA.  We had lunch with one of the Skylab astronauts...way cool!  And we also toured Kennedy Space Center as well as the Astronaut Hall of Fame.  On Sunday, we boarded the Disney Wonder for a cruise in the caribbean.  Went to Nassau, Bahamas and Disney's own island, Castaway Cay.  I was hoping to see a NASA freight train, but that didn't happen.  Did see the shuttle on Launch Pad #39.  I took about 700 photos there and another 500 on the cruise.

Sorry I couldn't take the time to read the back pages to catch up on everyone.  I hope everyone is feeling well and that those family members that have been sick are on the mend.  Take care and God Bless,
Dennis

Nice sunny fall day today.  Supposed to be that way all weekend.

TGIF. For me, anyhow.  Using up a couple of vacation days to make a four day weekend.  Lots of things to do around the house.

Warned my PT therapist that I had an active weekend planned, and that he might have some extra work on my knee when I visit him on Monday.  It is feeling a bunch better, so hopefully I won't overdo it and back slide this weekend.

The re-scheduled Buick GS Nationals are at Beechbend Park in Bolwing Green, Ky. Wednesday through Saturday next week.  I won't be able to make it this year Sad, but, for anybody in the area, it is usually a good show.

No train stuff - just waiting on items I have on order.  Tune up stuff for my four motor Alco project.

All for now.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY RAY !  Cake  Where you able to do the judging of the contest out in Venice you had mentioned?  Or did I have that confused with some other layout you are doing in November?

You guys are SO right on Nascar, I never use to miss a race, and would do anything to go.  I had season tickets for Fontana for 6 years, got to go to Rockingham, Phoenix, Vegas, and been to Daytona (not on race week).  Anyway, tried to get more interested again, just not their!  Ended up selling my scaner and headsets last weekend.  Hope something could come back but don't see that happening, in the meantime I will stick to the BullRings, and dirt tracks.

Still working on that d@#$ shed.  Worked half day at office, then put vent and some 1/4 round, at the top walls.  Need to do some final touch up painting, then its done!

Wife and I decided to move our business back home.  (Where we started it in '98).  Hence, the purpose of the shed.  Going to clear space in the garage for product storage, convert our utility room to an office.  We will end up sacrificing about 5-8% of our business from "walk-in" sales.  Majority is from our web-site, or telephone orders.  We have to have everything moved by Nov 1.  I am really looking forward to the move, will be a big cost advantage, plus I will be able to optimize my time a LOT better.  Will be able to work on a lot of other projects (trains),  And do some other things.

Been trying to help a friend with a layout design.  I think he has abandoned me on the project and relying on my efforts.  I have found out their may be a real estate issue between he and his wife.  So think I will so the activities down a lot, and ensure that their is step-by-step approval with him and his wife, before proceeding.

In the meantime, the guy who builds helix's that I was involved a bit with last year, called me.  After some discussion he is building layouts for people.  Was asking if I would want to get involved with the O Scale ones.  (He currently is working on one that is $15k, apparenty the guy has a house in Laguna, worth over $21M. Could be real interesting.

Sure HOPE and PRAY Char is doing better and continuing to improve!

Lots and lots going on, new jobs, new cars, obedieance awards, lots and lots  congrats to all !!

Later

Catching up on a few maintenance issues leftover and ordering some supplies. Looks like we should be in pretty good shape for the comet observations next week. Provided, that is, the weather cooperates. Possibility of snow next week.

8N - great pics of 3985. Would like to see her in person someday.

Fife - go ahead and fill out your 1040. I think we got some time before that happens.

Ray - Happy Belated Birthday!

Thoughts and prayers for Char and Mike's BIL.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Went to YMCA last night and played cards with wife.  Almost afraid to post here as the bad news keeps rolling in.  WIfe's sister (the one with the husband who has brain cancer) will have exam on Monday for "mass" in her ***.......  Also found out the brain cancer is the type that will double in size in two weeks and there is another growth somewhere else in brain.....  I hate to bring everybody down, but......... sometimes you have to wonder what is going on.  Wife is holding up ok, but only to be strong for her sister.  I know she is hurting bad inside.  This situation happened to a co-worker of mine many years ago when both he and his wife passed away within a year of each other from cancer, leaving three kids at home.  I just have to question things every once in a while.

I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime.  I hope everybody has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Don: Yes, dirt tracks is where the action is, where racers build their own cars and race for fun rather than money. Lots of action, at times more like a demolition derby. Someone here on the Pot does that, but I forget who.

The big races are to scripted, all cars the same, must be by NASCAR rules. All paved surfaces, with most tracts having long boring straight aways where the cars just follow each other around the track.

Retired are you? Sounds like the rest of us, a retirement where you work harder now than before, but have a little extra money for the "Fun" things (trains for sure).

As I think you know, our Internet business in in our house. Works great. You will save more on time, rent ,Etc. than the 8% lost on walk in business. And you can write off a big part of your house expenses, for us about 40%.

Mike - We know a couple that died of cancer within a year of each other. Have to wonder if it is a coincidence, life style, genetic or what.

Belated Happy Birthday Ray.Happy B-Day

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Rainy and Windy Taxachusetts,

Sir James has been a good influence on me over the past six weeks.  Every time he mentions he has been out mowing the lawn I have found myself guilted inspired to do the same.  Spent 5 hours yesterday doing the usual Fall yard wrapup/cleanup things: continued cleaning out the gardens, edged, picked up more leaves, mowed my brains out (lowered the blade), and dropped a coat of Fall fertilizer.  I leave the grass tall during the Summer months as the experts advise because I don't water the lawn......taller grass holds in the moisture and helps keep the sun from baking the soil surface and accelerating the moisture loss.  Then I began washing windows on the outside.  Wife was not pleased because her first priority (for me) was the stupid windows.  They are just going to get dirty again.  Bang Head

As the November elections approach, the BS and accusations and innuendo run 24/7, whether that be attack ads or news stories.  The state budget defecit won't be fixed because the pols know only one thing......spend money, even $ they don't have.  The number of tax and fee increases are running rampant.  The powers that be are all running scared because the polls indicate voter dissatisfaction, and the voter referendums to roll back taxes and fees abound.  Time to clean house in my mind.....but that won't happen because in the end the voters here tend to vote straight incumbent ticket.  We have a one party system here.....88% of the sitting State and U.S senators and representatives are Democratic.

Brutus......may I echo the sentiments and the continued prayers of my counterparts.  I hope Char is doing better and that she is back in the two steps forward mode.

MikeC.....I hear ya.  I don't mention most of the setbacks and losses that have occured during the past year in my wife's and my life.  It is always something or someone.  And if I dwell on them too much it brings me down, and then those whom I love.

8N.......that was some good news on your knee.  I'll take PT over surgery any day.  At the rate Spanky is going, he's going to blow his out.

California boys.....so who is the front runner to replace Arnold?

Pat and all.......I understand the purpose of parity in Nascar: hold down team costs and keep more drivers/teams in the hunt.  But all of the gearheads I know have become bored with the sport.  Re Jimmy Johnson's relative dominance, I think that has to do with him more than anything else.  He seems to do a better job avoiding the disasters and yet maintains a bit more aggressiveness when it counts.

JimmyT......if it were me, I'd keep running my favorites and stay in the hunt for the hard to find parts (motor).  You found one at a steal, why not another?

Bob......you got me to wondering, when does the first snow fly up near the scope.

NavyJack.........my personal preference, three year old turn-ins (some off lease) instead of newer.  You can pick up a well-equipped, low mileage vehicle at quite the attractive price.  Add in an extended warranty and you are good to go.  I do all of my auto shopping and research on the net: Autotrader-type sites because you can tap dealer inventories of new and used as well as private party sale.  Also, Edmunds, and the Consumer Reports used car buying guide.  Finally, don't be intimidated by the dealer inflated asking prices on the pre-owned vehicles.  They already fleeced the person trading the vehicle in and have plenty of negotiating room to come down in price.  Most folks don't know this, but dealers more often than not make more money (on a per car basis) on their pre-owned sales than they do on their new car sales.

JimSP........ O-D-Y-S-S-E-Y.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Joe.....my grandchildren have a nicer wardrobe than I do.  Bet it is the same with your kids.

Buckeye......where are the pics and the fish stories?

So Ray.......what did the birthday fairy bring ya?

Chief and all........has anyone finally gotten rid of their land-line phone?

Later, gang.

Jack.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Good morning America, how are you?  This was posted here a couple of years ago.  Thought I would bring it back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piUWIqWSthA&feature=related

Great morning from Town Hall.  Just finished talking to 4 and 5 year olds. Was easy to do as I am use to talking to Buckeye and he is on the same "level".  Whistling

Now to the house and get ready to go to the State Fair and meet wifey.  Then go shopping for shirts for the Town to have Town logo and my name and Mayor embroidered on them.  Seems Roseyville is behind the times as all the other Mayors and staff have them.  No one had thought of it here until I brought it up.

Well, thanks to all of you who worked so hard this week.  My SS check came on time. Wink

Glad to hear from Bob.  Good question Jack.  When does the snow fly up there?

Glad Dennis and clan had a great trip.

Laz, you going back fishing?  Can't go until next Wed and skipping meeting to do that.  Wifey working late every week night at the fair [ I have to pee dogs as they would be shut up for long hours] and I have meetings.

I like the new color chart on this software.  Finally got REB gray back.

D.Baker and Pat, thanks for the birthday greetings.  Don, you must have me confused with someone else about judging a contest in Venice.  My deal was being part of the DCS team at Cal Stewart in November.

Jack, I will have my birthday celebration on Sunday along with my grandson who's birthday is on that day.  I doubt if I will get any trains but maybe a check to buy some and possibly some train videos or something like that.

Home from the fair.  Whopy do.  The Krispy Kreme cheeseburger was not that great.  Too sweet and sticky.  The foot long hotdog was great.  Saw some younguns show some cows and calves.  Came home by way of mall. Crying Now resting and doing TV.  BTW: someone pushed over Fred's big deer feeder.  "Busted" it up bad.  Will "get" them before it is over.  They left golf cart tracks [see it had just rained so only people were by golf cart.]  We have an idea who it was.  Tomorrow I will track it down as had on dress pants and shoes.  Got to go through a lot of mud to track it down.  Fred may have this PM.

Greetings from Saint Louis.  Nice talks tonight with RT, SJ and Charlie.  Didn't get to talk to Char tonight.  She talked to the kids, but was falling asleep due to meds.  She had a better day on Wednesday, but down a little on Thursday.  Waiting for more good days than bad, for a trend.  I wish I had more/better news.

Prayers for all in need and our loved ones and families - for knees, backs, in-laws, cancer, and all.  Also for jobs, business changes, and home improvements.

Laz - take some pics as you go man, love to see what you are doing!

Watching The Lost Boys with the kids - daughter had seen it before.  So far, they are loving it Smile (don't tell my wife!)

Tardis is ready!

PS - sounds like a great trip, Dennis!  You too, Doug.  Also - Navyjack, EEK!  Selling all your trains!?!?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all.  I guess by the time I actually hit the post button it will be morning.  I ended up working late today, which has been the case the past two Fridays now.  I wouldn't mind, but I was trying to leave work early since we were going to OK City tonight.  My wife's cousin threw a birthday party for her husband, who is now 40.  The party started at 7pm and we arrived about 20 minutes late.  The party was fun and the food was great.  We got back home at 11pm.  I finally got everyone settled in to bed and now have a few minutes to be online.  We may drive back to OK City tomorrow to do some shopping - specifically the hobby shop for me.

Jim – You will not be disappointed with the Odyssey.

R.I. Jack - My kids have an amazing wardrobe.  However, my 7y/o son has three older cousins and we benefit from some great hand-me-downs.  I cannot stand to buy myself clothes - my wife points out that my current pair of running shoes have a hole or two in them.  I should buy running shoes more often since I run quite a few miles on them during the week, but I'd rather buy my family things, and save money for train related items.

Good night,

Joe

Morning everyone.  Was a nice trip.  Perhaps by tomorrow, I will be glad to be home.  For now, I could really go for some of that great food at poolside!  Kids had a lot of fun and now it is difficult to get them to do make up work for school.

Chief, as forest gump would say, "Stupid is as stupid does".  Sure you will get who did it, but no matter what is done to them, they will remain stupid.  Thanks for the nice thoughts.  We did have a great time.

Doug, my Dad goes to Cabo each year with some friends.  Has a great time fishing and living in luxury for a week.  Glad you and the family had a good time and have returned safely.

Well, plan for the day is to head to a local farmer's market for pumpkins and some food.  Then, I have a lot of yard work to tackle.  With any luck, I will be heading to the train room this evening.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning

Sun 40/64 today

It doesn't look like anything was missed by not going to York. No exciting news coming from that other forum. Granny's making applesauce for canning, with a little luck it will cover up this stinky caulk smell, at least for a few hours. Cereal for breakfast..S.J.

We had a nice York, Rained most of the day on Thursday, but Friday was beautiful and the crowd seemed to be the largest in a few years.  Yes there was a lot of junk in the member halls, but also some great deals, just ask Roy. Smile, Wink & Grin  Nice to see some younger guys there.  I picked up a few freight cars and a great T-shirt, will post a picture later.  Vendors seemed to be doing some business, the ones I talked to were happy.  The changes at Williams have led to some vendors no longer being there, or in a much reduced capacity.

I'm ready for April York, mark your calendar for April 14-16, 2011.

In fact here at the future dates.
