RT - She would never do that... she is more private than you would think and wouldn't want her name/face all over the news...

Pat - We know this, but when she bought the car we were told things about repairs and she bought an extended warranty (we will never do this again because the place the car is at is MUCH cheaper than the warranty). I have also found that the dealer is great for diagnosing a problem - which I will gladly pay their $250 diagnostic fee, then take it to either of my mechanics. I have run into situations in that past where the independant mechanics couldn't diagnose a problem.

Brent a lot of times it just write in on a anonymous name basis

Hey all well now have a Williams PRR Trainmaster with TMCC and rail sounds. Figured it out and only called ERR to make sure on 2 things that weren't really clear in there instructions on line.

Need a layout to run as she's a little jumpy as only have about 24" to run a 18" engine so can't get any speed just craw but horn and engine sounds good. Couldn't figure where to put program/run switch as frame was basically solid and couldn't access fuel tank area as it was 4 post into frame then melted to hold so it would probably mean I would of lost it if I tried that so basically step next to window on right side I drilled 2 holes then squared it off and it fit good will have to do some repair a little next to switch but as a whole its good and speaker went into roof

its right in roof vent above switch and back about 3/4"

Bob,

         I replied to your PM.

Brent,

Ouch!  You should look into one of those investigations like KDKA does when businesses try to screw people over.  They recently investigated a local plumbing company that advertises a $99 special and rips off people.  From what you've told us about Susan and how she is armed, I am suprised that she didn't end up on the news already due to the dealer.Wink

RT,

That location for the switch will probably work out better since it is easy to access.

I had to work today, but I spent yesterday working on this:

That lead to this:

Then last night I got it back together:

When I tested it, I didn't put any fluid in first.  However, it ran and smoked when I applied power.  I added 8 drops of fluid, then it didn't smoke at all.  I blew down the stack to clear any air bubbles, but that didn't help.  I'll have to go back through it.

Aloha all from my computer lab, where my students are busy working on their projects. Thought I'd check in. Congrats to Mitch on his Flying Yankee. What a beaut!  Brent, sorry about the car... I just took the just barely 3 year old Toyota in because the bride heard some rattling - turned out to be the alternator going bad...but it was happily still three days covered under their warranty. Hail Columbia! So declined their attempts to upsell: new tires? new battery? detailing? I mean this is a cheap car.... Ah well. Looking to close on refinancing Thur...can't believe the hoops we had to jump through for the paperwork. CTTs to read on the long train ride home!!

Good evening everyone.  I am still at work....and itching!  Will take some benadryl tonight before bed, but can't do it during the day as I need to be wide awake.

Chief, the 22-250 is a great round.  I have taken prairie dogs out to past 500 meters with it.  The V-Max from Hornady works great!  Not sure if they still make that as I bought 10,000 rounds from Mid-South several years ago and still have plenty.  Also, the 222 is a great round to about 200 meters.  Either way, I find a spine shot at the base of the skull makes for a quick and clean dispatch.  I have taken squirrels on the run that way and they just roll to a dead stop.

Brent, if your BMW is like my mercedes, the battery is under the rear passenger side seat.  I had a dead battery and the dealer sent a mechanic out to the parking lot the car was located at, changed the battery, and cleaned up.  Only charge...$147 for the cost of the battery.  With regard to the resetting the computer, I have heard that you can take a 9V battery and attach it to a cigarret lighter adapter (like you use with a radar detector, GPS, etc), and that will keep the radio, computer programming in tact while you change the battery.  I have not tried this myself.  Also, contact BMW-USA, if they are like our dealer, the manager's performance bonus is directly dependent on feedback.  Tell them all the issues you have had and I am sure they will do something.

Well, it has been a long day.  We still have a case to finish, but I am only back up as the new guy is doing the case.  Can't leave, but don't have to be there for the whole thing either.  The computer at work doesn't display many of the photos, so I will check on some of those posts later.  Eventually, I will have some Flyer questions as I have someone's father's set that needs repair.. when I can get to it.  I can tell we have a learned crowd to ask such questions to.

God Bless,
Dennis

Evening all

I have been trying to keep up with the pot but I keep getting more behind.  Camping with the Cub Scouts this past weekend was a lot of fun.  I enjoyed watching Gabriel and the other kids playing.  Well we are defiantly in the car market now.  Youngest daughter sold her ’01 Corrolla to the first person who looked at it.  It was on Craigs list for 25 minutes and she had an offer.  I never dreamed it would sell so fast.  So the deal was she sell her car, then she buys the Civic off me, bride get an Odyssee and I get the Avalon.  Trouble is we have not found the Odyssee yet, so I am driving the truck, which I don’t mind it is just more expensive.

The 768 Gulf Oil Depot came and it looks nice.  A little clean up and it will be real nice.  Need to decide if I want to just clean it or do a total refurb.  We’ll see.  Picked up the paint to paint the basement in the other house, will probably start Thursday or Friday.  So much to do so little time.

Banks – The backdrop is a digital picture which I printed out 4 times the cut out and pasted on a poster board that I had painted some blue sky and clouds on.

Mitch – COOL find!!!!

Dennis – Ask away either on the post or PM me and I’ll be glad to help all I can.  Work on trains is a pleasant diversion to the other stuff I’m doing.

Continued prayers for all you and your loved ones.  Even though I am not post much lately you all are often in my thoughts and prayers.

I got my oil changed and tires rotated after work tonight and man my little Chevy Colorado was driving really rough on the way home.  I can't decide if they screwed something up or if it's just the wear on the tires.  The receipt says they adjusted the brakes - wonder if something is rubbing?

They let Char have some creamy soup today, so we'll see how that goes Smile  If she keeps improving, we hope she can come home in just a few days Thumbs Up  Thanks for the prayers, because we can tell she is doing a little better now.

Enjoyed reading the latest CTT while waiting for the truck - some neat layout ideas in this issue Smile

TARDIS will be along shortly - creamy soup all around, on me boys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

The Yankee game is on, but I had to walk away from it.  Some poor pitching choices and stranding runners does not sit well with me, and it will probably cost them tonight's game.  I hope C.C. brings his A-game tomorrow night to keep them alive.

Not much else is going on tonight; I suppose I will go to bed early tonight.

Brutus - Did they actually refill the oil?  I know it seems silly to ask, but I have heard about these quick lube places actually forgetting.  I change the oil, rotate the tires, and do brake work on my own.  I can't see what they would have done to your brakes to cause it; maybe bled out some pressure, but that would only make them more sensitive.  They could have improperly rotated your tires.  Some tires have to be rotated in a particular manner.  How old are your tires?

Good night,

Joe

Partly cloudy today, temps. in the 60's.

Brutus - sounds like you might have a balance issue with your rotated tires.   Fronts are usually more sensitive to balance than rears.  If one of your back tires was a little lumpy, you might feel it more when it gets rotated up front.

I took a load off to the landfill Monday.  The bulldozer operator directed me into position where he wanted me to unload.  Only problem is, he forgot my truck does not have as much ground clearance as his bulldozer!  I bottomed the truck.  Fortunately, no serious damage.  Bent one of the exhaust pipes though - now it rattles on the rear suspension arm Sad.

Not much on the train front.  Did win a Lionel billboard with a PRR Aerotrain sign.  Kind of scratching my head over that one.   I didn't think Lionel ever made an Aerotrain, so that billboard seemed unusual.

All for now.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Played well both individually and as a team last night, but lost 2-1 on a last second goal off a corner kick.  That was tough.  Get my permanent crown on the tooth tonight.  Hope that goes well as this temporary is driving me crazy with what I can not do with it.  I had the regular fare on the dining car. TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Well, getting ready for round two...  finished after 10 last night and back at it this morning.  The rash is way down, but boy did I itch last night!  Hardly slept.

Brutus, continued prayer for Char and the family.  Sure it is tough on the kids and you too.  I would take the vehicle back to the place that serviced it...let them figure it out.  If it had to do with what they worked on, they should be able to fix it gratis.  If it is something new, they can do so and perhaps not hit you with the full freight on labor.

Jim, thanks for the offer.  When I get to that point, I will certainly give a shout.  I really need to get to the point where I can relax with running trains and then do some repairs.  Personally, I have quite a few that have never been out of the box as well as others that need some TLC.  Guess I will tackle the flyer among the first so I can get it back to it's owner.

I will try to check in later.
God Bless,
Dennis

Mornin' Fellas

RT - I will mention to her about contacting the news. Dennis - after the rim incident we looked for ways to contact corporate and there are none... you have to go through the dealers... but I'll look again. Interesting location to put a battery... when we get it back, or when we go to pick it up, I will see if that is where it is located.

The Q is in quite a quandry over this because she absolutely loves her BMWs. I can honestly say I have never driven another car that rides, handles, and has the performance these vehicles have. My 'new' car is a dream... we'll see if I feel the same in 100,000 miles. Big Smile

I really need to get back into the train room!

Brent you may want to look for another bmw dealer in the area

Morning all long day for me as have OTSmile which is starting to become scarce soon as they hired a couple of guys so the ot is going to start disapearing. I have 32 this pay period and down to 12 for the next ouch.

Not much else happening yet. Think my rough ness in my engine I put tmcc might be the atena wire isn't long enough and i couldn't attach to roof will add more wire to it or put one with a copper flat piece in as I have one from a electrocoupler upgrade kit I havn't used. Did take the couplers from it to upgrade this engine with them so might as well. Then I have a board for electrocouplers but nothin else lol. Oh well Did improve this engine.

Morning.  Chilly and damp.  Might get shower before clearing this afternoon.  Serviced pickup yesterday.  Going ot Sears to rotate tires [free with the tires I bought a year and half ago].  Then take 4 Runner as only $15 for it.  Then I do not have to those big heavy wheels.  Do my own service work as cheaper and I do it better.  Putting sparkplug in pickup this morning.  Put a set in at 60K and now 120K.  Don't have to replace as much as the old engines but still like to change them and not wait for 100K [as they say].  Got regional transportation meeting this afternoon at 4.  Have a good one.

RT - There are a few... the one closest to where I work I don't like as their service dept isn't very friendly, the one closest to the house is too far from work, the one she bought the car from is same problem, and the one I use she doesn't like because of a problem she had with their Toyota division. But from now on I will take her car to the dealer I deal with! Big Smile

Chief - I do most of my repairs as well, brakes, oil change, tire rotation, battery replacement, etc but since the arm injury and us having the maintenance agreements on the BMWs I take them there for that service. Tires and rotations aren't covered so I do that myself... take them to local tire store for balance and alignment as I know the alignment guy and he does them for $20 vs $150 as they normally charge or $250 at the dealer! OH and I will never do a sparkplug replacement on the BMWs... you have to take too much off the engine to get to them - take cars to friend who is a mechanic for that BS! Smile

Good Morning

Sunny but wind coming, headed for 65.

Ah yes way back when. families had 1 car, 1 tv, and every fall I would change the plugs and points. But a car still running at 100k was rare. Big breakfast this morning but I'm not telling, don't want anyone drooling on their keyboard....S.J.

Good morning all,

It was 45 when I woke up this morning for my run; I had to pull out the cold-weather running attire.  Today's high is 84.  I have much to do today at work.  The biggest time killer will be brining in a work vehicle to have it's oil changed.  Although I service my own vehicle I am not permitted to service the government's vehicle.  I have to bring it to a dealer and wait for it.  Hopefully it will not take more than an hour.

8N - I saw that same billboard.  I considered bidding on it as well due to its uniqueness, but there are other train items I need more at this point in time.  I'm sure it will look snazzy on your layout.

Good day,

Joe

Good point. Most independent repair shops have trouble sometimes with the diagnostics. You still come out way ahead even after paying the $250 fee.

Oh Yeah! a couple years ago I have a bad vibration in my old 325xi... took it to a mechanic and he said I needed a new driveshaft $875. Didn't fix it so I took it to the dealer. They told me I needed a new driver side axle $2,000. Still had the vibration, but not as bad, so I called my buddy and he called the dealer... passenger axle = $500... took him all of 1 hour to install... cost me a dinner and $250.

He has told me that if I ever have a problem he can't diagnose, from now on take it to the dealer, have them run the diagnostics, get a price, and then call him... if he can't do it then I just have the dealer do it... but now I have found another guy that is between my buddy and the dealer, so I can call him before having the dealer do the fix. Hello all,

Quick check in at lunch

First hard frost last night, about two weeks late. May have to dig out some flowers this weekend.

I stopped at the local Dollar General last evening on the way home. They have some ceramic buildings that look suitable for O gauge at $5.00 each. Also some HO size @ $1.50 each. Not as detailed as some put for the price they can't be beat. I'm fiddling with a Christmas layout on a hollow core door that I may bring to the office. Might just have to add a couple of them.

Prayers for Mrs. Brutus and any others that may need them

Jack,

            You aren't the only one...Whistling

Jim,

I am in a similar situation with the 766 Guilford Station that I have.  It isn't bad, but the base could stand a repaint.  It is a tough decision.

Dennis,

               Bring on the questions.

Brent,

I googled "BMW 525i battery location, and some say that it is under the rear seat on the right, and other people are claiming that is hidden in the trunk on the right.Hmm

Fife,

When you mentioned the colon cleaning, did you mean when the damage happened, or getting the damage fixed?  I've found it can go either way.Oops - SignEmbarrassed

I tested the 332 again last night, and it smoked fine.  I also replaced the missing railing on the left rear of the cab.
