Greetings from Saint Louis!

Daughter had a fun day with my sister - went shopping and all the girl stuff.  I took my son to the mall for lunch and then to the game store.  Then we went over to my folks' house for dinner and birthday celebrations for two sisters and me (it was early, but people were in town for the weekend).

Talked with Char a little today and she is feeling okay, they have her on some kind of pain patch now along with the shots.

Prayers for us all and our loved ones and friends for jobs, health and healing.

Tardis is ready and I'll be along shortly Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Wife was gone all day to conference and all the housework was done yesterday.  Filled the house with ozone as I had the new Scout set, the Santa Fe freight, and the Black Cave Flyer all running at once today.  It was a beautiful noise.  I got the Halloween stuff out and set that up.  Wife and I went to Buffalo Wings and Rings for supper tonight.  She had a good day at her CASA conference.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I see where the Princess almost had a "Top 20 " car in the Nationwide race, but missed it by one spot.  I hope everyone has a good day.

To all,

I would be shirking my duty as a true Hoosier not to post this link for your benefit:

http://www.indystar.com/article/20101013/SPORTS0107/10130312/1052/SPORTS01/IMS-puts-century-of-cars-back-on-the-track

In a rare display of 33 Indy winning cars outside the museum, IMS placed some of its more outstanding cars (a few were loaners) on the track once again for a photo shoot.  I personally have seen over half the assembled collection on the day they won the race.  To me, this is what the speedway represents and hopefully one day will again.  The last photo in the series sends the most chills up and down my spine.  I hope you all can get a look at.  No disrespect to any other motorsport or in fact any other sport period, but there are few places that can boast of having the exact same event year after year for 100 years uninterrupted (except for armed conflict).  Baseball may be the only exception, but even it had a strike to wipe out a World Series.  Take a look at these pictures, and you no longer have to wonder why grown men get misty eyed when Jim Nabors sings, "Back Home Again in Indiana"......

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Today was uneventful at work, and I had some new toys waiting for me when I got home.  The 332 arrived along with another green 650 New Haven passenger car.  Both are very nice, and they came from that seller in Kentucky that we've discussed before.  I've got to hand it to them, they've really stepped their game up.  Both the 332 and 650 were as I expected from the description and multiple pictures, shipping was free and fast, and both items were very well packed.Thumbs Up  I am very impressed.

Aside from the missing right number board and bell, the 332 is complete and nice.  I need to install a rectifier in the tender before I can test it since it can only run on DC though and I don't have the money to hunt down a 14 Rectiformer right now.  The 650 is super clean, and only needed the typical window outline touchup.  I'll try to get pics Monday.

Good evening all,

We made another trip to OK City today.  Stopped by the hobby shop first: picked up some Fastrack block sections and got some advice on fixing a broken handle on my 1044.  We stopped by Target and I picked up some Christmas lights (LEDs) which will work great for my airport runway.  We then took the kids to a pumpkin patch to pick up a few pumpkins.  I can't wait to carve them with the kids.

The sad news of the day: the Yankees lost.  In the grand scheme of things I know it's only a game.  I've just been watching some Annie Hall on PBS, but I believe it's time for bed.  No train running today, but I hope to do some layout work tomorrow.

Fife - I stopped by Home Depot today to check out the buildings you mentioned.  The ones I saw were ceramic or porcelain buildings that appear to specifically for Christmas scenes.  Are those the ones you were referring to?  I may do a small Christmas layout this year and I believe those would work very well.

Good night,

Joe

Good morning or night.  Reclinerized after a late meal.  Friend Fred and I walked the whole pond property this afternoon.  Put up Posted signs next to the neighborhood and ribboned the trees on the property line.  We then returned to the entrance to see foxes eating the spilled corn Fred could not get up from tashed feeder.  Gun season for deer, squirrel and fox came in today [actually fox season is in every day with me].  I saw 6 [one was the same one twice I'm sure] and Fred saw a different 8.  We were 200 yards from each other on the sewer easement right behind the African-American houses at the end of the street  [they are glad we are shooting them as they are in their yards a lot].  Sewer easement is about 30 feet wide.  I shot one at around 90 yards, one over 100 yards and the last one at 30.  The shots at 100 and 30 were at them moving across the easement.  Both of us were shooting .17 HMR bolt actions.  We have found out, that unless you get a head shot or heart shot, the .17 is a little small to stop them.  Takes more than one shot to kill them.  I do not let them suffer.  Dropped the one at over 100 yards with first shot but took two more to make me sure it was dead.  I was shooting from a deer stand and Fred was shooting from the edge of the last house [empty].  To give you an indication of how many foxes there are on this property, Fred has 5 deer stands spaced over the whole 67 acres.  He sees 4 to 5 [different sets] foxes at each stand.

I tracked the golf cart right out of the woods path to where I thought it went.  Ran in to a young man in the path on the other property going to a deer stand.  Said he was cousin of a young man [whose father I saw riding a golf cart afternoon of the "trashing" but I'm sure he did not do it].  Young man immediately told us he had heard about the "trashing" from his cousin [the man's son].  Now you know who I am 90% sure of who did it [I think the father knows who did it too and his son is in his 20's].

Off to sleep.

Well we are up and running and taking some data for the last two nights. Weather isn't the greatest, but we need to test the system w/ all the changes that were made.

For those who were curious, we usually get our first dusting sometime in October (prob next week this year). The first time we get some significant accumulation is in November. We'll see if we get another 20 feet this year. See Don for a heads up on our weatherSmile, Wink & Grin

Drove down to get a prescription filled in Safford due to some last minute confusion in Tucson. Beautiful view w/ the clouds and scattered showers, plus the aspens are turning.

On the train front I found a couple of 4-wheel Marx cars to tow behind the windup I am fixing for my friends son. I also got my first structure, a small lighted Amtrak passenger shelter. I should call it my second, as I got a Lionel tower kit 30 years ago as a Christmas gift. Was into HO then but kept it all these years unbuilt w/ the 258.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 48 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Fifedom is wiped out from the luau last night.  Wifey's sexy sister hit 50, and we had a dj w/karaoke, Hawaiian dishes, and a firepit with ukulele songs to finish the night.  Got inside in time to catch the final laps of NASCAR race, but apparently Zzz around with 27 to go.  Nice to see McMurray having a good season.

Rich is s'posed to be in town for a physical aggility test, so might hear from him after noon.  Perhaps he might want to go for a cruise.

Chief - Won't pull the "yatchet" out 'til mid-November.  Capt. Fife is one of the last out, and one of the first in Pirate.  In ref to your feeder culprit, if he knows you are onto him, drop the matter there.  In my experience, it should make him avoid you, and will be a "stone" between his shoulders.

Harold - I hosted Tiger cubs with fifepup, but it didn't last, as he wanted to get his black belt (ironically after a karate exhibition at a pack night...)

cheapclassics - Our local media covered that line-up at Indy.  Pretty cool.  However, when I see Jim Nabors I suddenly want some macademia nuts.  OH, BTW, CONGRATS on 2000!

Demay - Those are the ones.  I thought the entire line was nicely done, but the HD store was downright gorgeous.  It is too modern for my needs, or else I'd have one.

Brutus - Continued  Angel ...

submmbob - What you consider a "dusting" would probably cripple the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area...

jefelectric - Thanks for the show report.  Wifey and I gave up a lot this past week for our little sware'.  Now you've presented me with a bigger dilema...Spring YORK is on wifey's Cake.  Trains vs Black Eye.  Too soon to call...

Can't get that catchy "Going up to Boston" tune out of my head for some reason.  Oh yeah, gotta get the 8ft inflatable Raven player out again.

Morning all.  Slept late.  Off to the Fair around 1:30 as working with wifey from 2:30 till 7:30.  The exhibit is the called the Field of Dreams.  Shows kids how NC ag products grow and how they are harvested.  Lets the kids harvest some of them [like peanuts and etc.].

Fifey, agree with you.  Will inform his Dad's first cousin [who is a freind and whose yard he drove through] of what happened, pretend I do not have a suspect and then drop it.  Bet he will stay on his property from now on.  BTW: he is the suspect of who kept damaging the back cable and destroying things with his 4 wheeler a couple of years ago.   Nice of you [the expert] to admitt that Yankees can not drive in a dusting of snow. Whistling

Nice fall weather.

Have a great week.

Hi GUYZ,

Busy day here, got up early this morn.  Went to Cabelas with wife she wated her new plate set for her new kitchen and family room.  Got two sets and beef jerky, all for free.  It was free because we have a Cabelas card and cashed in the points we earned.  Then came home did shopping, ate lunch and then cut back more flowers and shrubs, got into pond cut back all plants, cleaned up gunk on bottom of ponds, cut grass, watered new grass, unloaded all cuttings and then did laundry.  Now for beer and pitza.

JELECTRIC, thanks for update at YORK.  I'll see you in April.

Rock on,

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Fifedog, thank you for the congrats.  I had not noticed myself.  It will not be too long until I have 10 years as well.  I really did not post much until the coffeepot came along.  Today was a good day.  I got everything done I set out to do, which admittedly was not much.  Finished up the Halloween decorating, put some boxes away, and edged the sidewalks.  Also, took wife to see "Red".  Good action movie.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL after "Desperate Housewives".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,

Today's weather was very nice.  I'm hoping it cools down again soon.  We went to church in the morning and did not do much in the afternoon.  After lunch and reading the paper, I was able to take care of some small things with the layout: Fixed the direction/whistle handle on the 1044; made some headway on the airport (runway lights should go up next weekend); and laid out pieces of cardboard to mark where buildings will go in the town.  Considering I was also tending to three kids at the time, I am pleased with the progress.  Heck I even had the train running for a few minutes.

The Dolphins won today in OT which was nice.  I did not watch any football since I was in the garage; I need to have a radio on while I'm out there.  Now I am flipping between the Phillies game and the Colts game.  The Yankees are back on tomorrow.

Fife - Thanks.  I think the buildings look great too.  I'm anxiously awaiting the next CTT since it's going to have some Christmas layout planning in it.  I believe those HD buildings would look nice surrounded by snow.

Chief - I love driving in the snow; I wish OK got more of it.  The kids like going out with me in it so we can do donuts in the parking lot.  And yes, I do it in a Honda Odyssey.

S.J. - Glad you got your nap in.  That was a very short winning streak Big Smile.

Good night,

Joe

Good Evening All

Worked this weekend with so-so results.  The weather had quite a bit to do with it I'm sure.  Today, I think the high was 65, then heavy clouds.  So people just didn't come out.  We're suppose to have rain the next couple of days for sure, maybe thru Thursday.

Better get ready Bob, I think you might see a dip in temps come Monday, definetly Tuesday.  And most likely some snow flurries as well.

As you all are probably tired of hearing me talk about my shed, well here it is;

Room on the left is the Train Room.

Wife made up some address plaques, train room has 1/2 on it shed has 3/4.  They look pretty coool!

This week got to get stuff reorganized in the garage and shed, making room for product and office stuff.

Sure will be glad when this retirement stuff settles down.  And get some slack time.

Did talk with Jefelectric over the weekend, sure sounds like York was good, (no surprise there.)  Congrats on the promotion Roy, just what you need, more demands on your time.

Also, saw a couple small boats for sale at the show this weekend, was thinking Fife may be interested.  Only was $20k down, and $564 per month for 360 months!  THATS 30 YEARS !!!!

Have to get going so hope everyone has a great day!

Continued prayers for Jim and Char !

Greetings, guys - big congratulations for 2000 plus posts by MIKE!

My buddy came over with his daughter to get some old computer equipment and my grandma's old dresser - it's one of those tall, skinny ones and will be great for his granddaughter.

Talked with my wife tonight.  Mother-in-Law Judy came to visit and she'll be with us until Friday, which is a big help Smile

Played Munchkin Cthulhu with the kids and MiL - I don't think she liked it, but my son is still crowing as he has now won 4 out of 6 times we have played it, lol!

Prayers for all, including Eric.  Congrats to Bob, Mitch and RT on recent purchases Smile

I'm sure I missed a lot of stuff.  Tardis is ready, so let's get going guys!

Good night all.  Worked the fair from 2:15 until 7:30.  2:15 because the dumb@#% NCSHP was directing traffic.  You know that I am very pro law enforcement.  They use to have helicopters helping direct the Troopers.  No helicopters.  Two Troopers on motorcycles were more concerned about 4 vehicles illegally parked along the street [out of the way and obviously been there a long time] than telling the traffic directing Troopers of the backup they rode through on the median.  The straight lane suddenly stopped [we were in to get to special parking lot].  It sat for 20 minutes.  Well, the lane past the stoplight stayed full all the way back to the Troopers.  Well Dumby, if you let the right hand lane from the right turn right all the time, the lane will stay full.  Sudenly the turn lane turning right for us got empty so Wifey shot into it and within three minutes we were in another special lot [really a secondary one] we had another permit for.  When leaving, another dummy let the vehicle in front of me exit the lot.  He stopped me.  Well at that lot exit, you are in the middle of the main pedestrian crossing.  Well, he let the people cross and they had to walk all around my vehicle.  If he had let me out, no vehicle would have been blocking the walkway and pedestrains would have had a clear walkway.  I think they are scraping the bottom of the barrel,  NC's "finest" seem to keep getting arrested for DUI, sex in patrol vehicles, true profiling [a word I do not like to use] and other things.  Command keeps changing as they can't seem to keep Troopers in line.  Bang Head

Had fun with the kids.  12 years old and under got small baskets.  They walked through crops growing.  They "picked" plastic apples from a wooden tree with shelves to hold the apples.  They got sweetpotatoes.  They came and got plastic strawberries and plastic blueberries.  They then walked through more crops [really growing] to a make believe market.  Produce scales were hanging there.  Workers emptied the basket into the scales, told the weight and gave each kid $10 in play money.  The kid then went inside the big tent and gave his money to the lady and got a bag full of kid prizes and a NC grown apple.  Teaching the kid that farmers harvest, take it to market, get paid and go buy with their earnings.  Now if this was the Ohizo State Fair, the kids would go pick the corn, take it to the still, get liquor, drink it, get drunk and stager out of the exhibit.   Whistling

Well Roy, I must have missed something.  Promotion?  Well deserved.

Now on the famous shed.  Looks more like an outhouse than a shed.  After days and days of "hard" labor and whining, I was expecting a shed.  My tool shed at the lake is larger than that thing.  Guess you do not have to go in it and then try to turn around. Confused

Hope eveyone has a great work week so my SS keeps rolling in.

Sleep tight.

Another nice sunny fall day here. Brutus - prayers for Char. Charlie - nice video on the 765. That is a Berkshire, isn't it? Your video came out better than the one I took for the UP Challanger run by last week. I was too close to the tracks to get a good pan of the loco as it went by. Been sticking more tile up in the bathroom and also starting to strip the trim. The old paint is almost 1/16" thick on it! Some grout, a little more drywall compound, paint and fixtures and the room will be done. Package from The Train Tender got here, so I was able to freshen up a few of my Alco 200 motors last night. Cleaned and lubed the 'new' two axle magnetrtaction motor for my #600 switcher too. Don't, have it installed yet, though. Good news from the LHS. You may recall that the owner's son had a brain tumor removed recently. He got back home last Wednesday, and they are talking about starting him back at school on Monday. All for now.

" Oh yeah, gotta get the 8ft inflatable Raven player out again."

Not sure I want to know what that is all about. This man is in law enforcement?Wink

Fife - that photo of the CSX engine going over the bridge is awesome!

Another quiet evening collecting photons. Weather is still marginal, but at least we can be open for some testing, and getting some useful data at the same time.

Mitch - nice video. I like the collection of passenger cars.

Don - nice work on the shed. I never finished the last pieces of trim on a 10X14 metal one. After like 16 hours of work, we were tired of all the little screws. A year later I sold it that way and the new owner put the trim on.

On the train front, I am messing around w/ some old Marx stuff for a friend of mine's 5 yr old. The wind-up engine is plastic and from the 60's. I didn't care for the plastic cars that usually came w/ these and found some litho 4-wheel tin ones.

The funny thing about this is I've really learned about tractive effort in this project. On it's own the engine will shoot off the track with a full wind-up. Since I don't have the cars yet, I was trying to tow my 2224W w/ it. The driving wheels just spin w/ all the weight. Adding some weight to the engine helps. The 2025 and 2026, which are much heavier, drag the tender and several cars like nothing doing. I think I may try and add some weight to the engine. Then I found another engine, two cabeese (the unofficial plural), and two tenders for only $10. So with the other two tin cars I will have two full trains. The other I will give to another friend's son. Plus this is a good way to use up some of my old track that is too far gone for running the electrics.

Oh, and while I was on the bay I found a deal on an 8607 gray Adriatic that was too good to pass up. Doesn't have the boiler handrails that I like, but does have the eccentric valve gear. I am planning to paint a tender gray to match and make my own version of a Navy train. What do ya think NavyJack?

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Rain is supposed to be here tonight and cool things off.  "Desperate Housewives" was good.  They handled some situations pretty well.  Roy, congrats on the promotion I missed.  Chief, you need to get some ISP people down there.  Any group that can move 250,000 people in and out the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" with ease and proficiency should be able to manage your gathering with no sweat.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold 48 degrees. Going up to 68 today with a chance of rain.

Today is a busy day. I have some chores to do and an errand to run. Later, I will work on a project, and then a short nap. Busy.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good Morning

40/55 overcast and gloomy.

Good video Charlie, thanks for the peek. While steam was disappearing from the rails I was chasing girls. I never thought about taking pictures. No plans for this morning and the cook just arrived so breakfast is yet unknown.

Ah the Buckeyes, sadly the other team played better..S.J.
