Aloha. So much for the big winds downtown - - though my 15th flr. windows did some nice bowing-and-flexing. I'm in the lab as my students work. Then off to the train - I'll be looking for fellow 'riders'! Tomorrow taking the day off to take the bride to a doc to work on her asthma which is getting pretty bad. May run trains in the afternoon. Thomas, James and Percy need a good stretching of the wheels.

Do not mess with Mother Nature or the Chief!
Home for a few days. Got good rains at the lake and home too. Got meetings tomorrow in Wilson and Edgecombe Counties [estate stuff]. Meetings all day Thursday and a ribbon cutting that night. Back to the lake on Friday until Sunday afternoon.
Dennis, 22-250 Remington 700 Varmit Special is getting ready. The Camo Thompson Center .223 bolt action just came in. It has adjustable trigger. Guess you have seen the adds. Lifetime warranty of 3 shot group within an inch at 100 yds. Thompson Center is now owned by S&W.
Later.

Fife - A portrait of Ronald Reagan hanging in the house says volumes for your family, all good.
LAZ - I only keep boxes for the more expensive stock, only about 10% of the stock, and never the accessory boxes. Don't plan to sell them, just use them up!
We are also bombarded with Republican election emails, calls, etc., but I know why. Our Son-in-Law is our prosecuting Attorney (Republican) and gave the party the Info.

Knowing some of their "pollyanna" syle of thinking, I too would tear up watching my two oldest princesses vote...
There's still hope for the youngest one. She keeps asking about the portrait of Ronald Reagan in our family room.
RT,
I get where you are coming from about fixing the talking station, but in this case it just doesn't seem practical to me unfortunately. I'll post pictures comparing the one that I was going to rebuild to the complete one that I got yesterday for $48 once it arrives.
Laz,
Do you have an attic that you could keep the boxes in? Although that might not be the best storage option, I put some up there because I couln't bring myself to throw them out.
Just got home from work, which is becoming rediculous. Lately, the head manager has gone from someone who was great to work for to an arrogant jerk to put it lightly. He has been treating everyone, including the other managers, like garbage to put it lightly again. I need to step up the job hunt as I am strongly considering leaving what was once a great place to work.
Fife..... "good evening"..... @ 2PM?!? Maybe somewhere over in Europe.
Rich......sooner or later, you reap what you sow. And your harvest is beautiful to behold. Sometimes it takes a decade before our kids can even begin to truly appreciate what their parents have done and sacrificed for them, and yet another decade before they can express it. But it is all worth it in the end, regardless of how rough the road travelled. Like the rest of the guys on this forum, I admire and respect the relationship you have carefully nurtured with your daughter, despite all obstacles. Your account brought tears to my eyes. You have my prayers that you and your wife can continue to look past your mutual past and keep things as tight as they can be under the circumstances. Your Princess is counting on it.
Later, gang.

He and his wife had every bit the trials you and Q have had (both avenues) and I just found out they had a baby less than a year ago. Good Afternoon from HOT & SUNNY Florida!
Was up to 88 yesterday and appears to be that hot again today. I'm missing all the great weather back home.
Car vapor locked yesterday and only the remains of my daughters coke saved the day...ice worked its magic...
I had the pride of a father yesterday as some of my parenting paid off. The Almighty granted a small wish as my daughter voted for the first time, and I was there. I had tears welling up in my eyes I was so proud of her. She told the poll workers that it was all Dad, as he took me every year and showed me how and explained the responsibility. I got a Good Job, Dad from all the poll workers.
Had a nice afternoon with the (ex) wife. we did lunch and coffee, walked, talked and shopped. I'll be going over tonight for dinner and to watch Glee with my daughter and her friends. My last night with her until Christmas. I'll be leaving here tomorrow night.
Thanks for the pictures, RT. John & Dennis, I must be a hybrid, cuz we have hydrants in town and have to draft in case of the "Big One". Our mutual aid is also rural, so we practice drafting.
Got news that my unemployment has been denied, but my Firefighter one was grandfathered in and I just have to challenge Firefighter II.
RT...about your "rant", trust me, we all understand. 9/11 is the same for me...343 died (murdered) to saved thousands.
Picked up a B&A blue hopper and a pair of lighted fastrack bumpers at Hobby Lobby for $25 out the door. Nice investment.
Thats all from here, leaving tomorrow night. Hope to check back before I go.
Thanks for the prayers and support, guys. It means a lot and touches my heart. We're a great group here.
Have a great one!

Good Morning
Some wind but the gale and storms have not arrived from Chicago yet. Had a nice chat with Brutus and Doug M last nite, no world problems solved just plain brown wrapper fun. Dential cleaning done, home for the day now....S.J.
Good morning all,
The weather is very cool once again. Today’s high is only 70; I love it. I will stay busy at work today with catching up on paperwork and attending meetings. The new CTT arrived yesterday and after a quick perusal through, it looks to be another great issue. I’m hoping to glean some Christmas layout ideas from it.
Dennis – Denzel is a terrific actor and he probably should have won a few more Oscars in the past. And yes, he does many great works for our military folks without all the hoopla. The new movie is titled Unstoppable. Here is a quick blurb I found on it, and the trailer is on Youtube:
“Oscar-winner Denzel Washington and Star Trek’s Chris Pine team with action maestro Tony Scott in this non-stop thriller. A massive unmanned locomotive, nicknamed “The Beast” and loaded with toxic cargo, roars through the countryside, vaporizing anything put in front of it. A veteran engineer (Washington) and a young conductor (Pine), aboard another train in the runaway’s path, devise an incredible plan to try and stop it – and prevent certain disaster in a heavily populated area.”
Good day,
Joe
Demay Has anyone seen the previews for the new Denzel Washington movie? I did not catch all of the preview, but it appears he is a train engineer and using a train to save the day. Joe

Joe, I have not heard of the movie, but I am a big fan of Denzel Washington. He is a stand up kind of guy. He does a lot of support for our troops, but does it without the press. I had heard that he has given millions in support of injured warriors and family support.
8N, I have dealt with some folks for many years and have had some delays in shipments. Only to find that they were in serious financial difficulty and had gotten to where their suppliers had them on COD. The delay may be problems they are having and perhaps a phone call would be in order? You may be able to do a work around till the supply line is restored. For what we do, we always have a back up plan.
Jack, I too have had a number of calls, emails, junk mail all to vote for a given person. Funny thing is, all these have been from Republicans, I have not gotten one item from the D side of the isle. Of course it is all mute as I voted yesterday. Supposedly, they have a video where a guy in Atlanta had voted straight Rs on one of the electronic voting machines. When the tally at the end showed his vote, it said all Ds. He re-started the process and brought over the election official and they were eventually able to fix the machine and record the correct vote. Either way, people would do well to check their vote before hitting the final "VOTE" button.
We have overcast skies and it really looks like it wants to rain. Hope we get some....my trees need it! Wife is off getting her hair done and I have to head in shortly.God Bless,Dennis

Aloha from Weather Central where 'The Great Lakes Cyclone of 2010' is being hyped to the rafters... So it's blustery and rainy - got soaked on the way in this am. But really now. Lowest barometric pressure since Katrina. etc etc. Oh boy. Ran trains last night after everyone went out. Felt fortunate to briefly connect to Sir J and Brutus. Yuck, hope I dry off soon, or it'll be a long squishy 12 hours.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Overcast Taxachussetts,
It is warm here as well! It is 63 here now and will be hitting 72 later. Rain is on the way. The Patriots have kept everyone on the edge of their seats.....keep winning, but barely. The Celtics open their promising NBA season tonight with Shaq starting tonight. And the Bruins appear to have a competitive team this year. I have to talk about sports because the politicians would have you believe we should be paying attention to all of their drivel and half truths.....can't wait to vote and get this over with. The phone keeps ringing and the doorbell as well with the final push. Can't get rid of them fast enough. I can appreciate the importance of the elections, but they just are not listening. The campaign ads sponsored by the special interest groups can only be described as "Fantasy Land."
The most important thing I have to share today are my prayers for Brutus' Char as she continues to make progress with this current challenge. Just wish I lived in St. Louis as I wish everyone here does so we could help out in some way. I could clean toilets, do laundary, and handle some yard work so Jim would only be in deep s!?t with all of the things he's got to get done before his better half gets home. Holding down the fort physically and emotionally with the little ones requires all hands on deck, and more hands would make it easier. Hang in there, Brutus.
Later gang.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a mild 60 degrees. Rain today. Going up to 74 today.
Today is an easy day. I plan on relaxing and finish reading my latest CTT issue. A few chores to do and an afternoon nap. Good day for it.
Dining car is here with the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
Chuck
Hi GUYZ,
62 here wow pretty warm. Grass is going to grow. Started to throw out most of my rolling stock boxes to make room in basement. Don't know if I'm doing the right thing but they are taking up too much space. Keeping older boxes but the new ones are going to be recycled.
SF,

It is rainy and and windy in SE Indiana. May or may not get our game in tonight. Supposed to be dry by game time, but if the field is too wet....who knows. Long day at work trying to balance record counts. Usually successful, but not yesterday. Will have to do some more checking today. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East". Will have to route more power to the stabilizers for the Tardis with all the wind blowing. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
The Giants beat the cowbells .... uh ... i mean cowboys .... lol !!!!!!! More fumbles and interceptions in one game than I think I ever saw !
Warm and cloudy today.
Brutus - good news on your wife's progress.
Just the usual Monday stuff - back to work so SS can stay solvent.
I am having some vendor trouble at work. I've got some tooling ordered that is running late on delivery. I've known one of the owners of that company for about 30 years. He used to have the same job I have now, so he knows what kind of a pickle he's put me in. No, I'm not using this as an opportunity to razz him any . Nope, not me.
Later, all.
Good evening all,
I kept very busy at work today and did not have time to check in during the day. I also slept in a little longer due to two things: the baby kept me awake from about 0330 - 0600; and the mornings are very cool now which makes me want to stay in bed longer. We have the windows open and it is very challenging to get out of a warm, comfortable bed.
I'm enjoying some of the MNF game, but I will not watch it all the way through. I plan to turn in early tonight in case the baby has any more late night party ideas.
Good night all,
Talked with Char tonight. They are going to up her diet on Wednesday and start switching her to oral meds from IV stuff - have to make she she is absorbing it first. Sounds like she might get out this coming weekend or early next week if everything is "green" - thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts. Prayers for us all and our loved ones and jobs and more toy trains, too!
Got my appraisal at work today - all "excellents" = "outstanding", so that was nice. It's good when you get some appreciation
Got my new CTT today also Chuck!
TTFN - Tardis is ready!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
70 today, storms and high wind is tomorrows forecast. Not sure when I'll get coffee tomorrow as I pull the plug when storms head at us. I have already had my banilla with chocolate syrup and peanuts. I did save some for the thingy though...S.J.
Dennis we got a good rain here today we also needed it and we were blessed. calling for rain basicly off and on thru thursday
Not much else going on here. Nothin in the train front. Have sold a few items still have a lot more listed.
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne
http://rtssite.shutterfly.com/
John, I guess we were spoiled. Plenty of hydrant pressure and the equipment was kept in very good condition. Some of the area FD's have front mounted pumps like those. Our local county has a brush truck with large brush tires and front pump . I think they were calling the front line a "trash line/pump". We have a very high concentration of agriculture around these parts.
Chief, be careful up there. We were under a tornado watch and it looked like it was heading your way. Hope you have good weather up that way. In the end, we didn't get the much needed rain.
Have some layout work to get to.God Bless,Dennis
Quick check in from the Country Store at the lake. Raining off and on. Could have severe storms. Glad to hear Char is improving. Later.
Good morning all, a little more light rain during the night. My cold is somewhat better today with no sore throat and voice coming back. Was not able to go to church yesterday. First mass I missed in longer than I can remember.
Got some more good information from J&W Electronics about upgrading MTH engines etc. Seem like very good people and prompt answers to questions.
Grandson reported on first flight with his radio controlled airplane that he got for birthday. Said it flew great put only problem was a crash on landing when the wind blew the plane sideways into a pole. Wing was broken along with engine cowling. Wing can be replaced for $20.
Prayers for Mrs Brutus and all those in need.
Next project for us is Cal Stewart train meet in Pasadena next month. That is our biggest meet on the West Coast.
Saw a special last night on Huel Howser "California State Parks". This one was about a preserved railroad in Jamestown, California (Sierra Railroad) where they ran the recently overhauled Rogers 4-6-0 engine of movie fame. It was used in "High Noon" among others and the TV show "Petticoat Junction". The engineer was a guy I met once at the Sacramento Rail Fair. He and a friend of mine used to work together running the steam engine at Knotts Berry Farm. Nice to see him again. When Huel asked him about the engine he said it was his girl friend.
I guess Laz is all done with his Lokey running for this season.
Have a good week y'all,
Ray

Hello All,
Quick check in .
Most important, Prayers for Mrs Brutus,
Attended Altoona Train show yesterday. They opened an additional room which meant more vendors. It seemed to be well attended. I had a good time visiting with some people I see only a few times a year at the shows. Bought a Mantua GP-20 from the 60's in Penn Central colors . Mainly 'cause the price was to good to pass up. Only purchase of the day.
Son is in Mcdonough GA today at Norfolk Southern's training facility. It seems all training is done there. He'll be there a week as he was hired as a Laborer. some crafts are there for up to 16 weeks.
Crops are all in. Corn was poor, Soybean fair. First group of steers go to butcher on November 16th.
Had hoped to do some muzzle loader hunting this fall but ended up helping nephew put roof on. He helps us a lot so I don't mind. There's always the late season, if I don't get on with my rifle.
Put Oliver tractor in garage. need to repair leaking hydraulic system some tine this winter. Hoping to get some train time this week.
Best get back to work.
Prayers for all who may need the
Banks, Proud member of the OTTS TCA 12-67310
Lunch time and a break in the action,
I spoke with Navy Jack yesterday and he was in good spirits and we had a great conversation as we compared our trains and what we liked about them and why.
Rich, Good luck with your situations and the test. Congrats on the written part.
Dennis, That Ford pumper has a front mounted pump and it may be a 500 to 750 gpm rural pumper. We have had several of these units at work that we had at our gas plants and some gen stations. These units were popular with industry and rural volunteer fire companies because of their cost factor and ease of maintenance. The pump is mounted on the front and not mid ship and a lot of the chassis/body plumbing is eliminated. You were spoiled as a "city fireman". As far as hydrants, we still are lacking them in our district and we have draft points for fighting structure fires and the tanker task force. We draft at almost every major fire.
Fife, At least you not get woken by the sounds of go karts racing around your backyard at 2:30am like my daughter and her friends did about 15 years ago during 1 of her sleep overs.
Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.
Back to work,
John
