Evening all not much happening here just moved the extra bed to the den as we don't have any AC in rest of house as central unit went down Thursday night/Friday a.m. and I haven't slept good since we have a window unit in den ( won't fit in rest of the house windows there too small.

Worked all weekend off tomorrow have doc appointment tomorrow am and A/C repairman tomorrow afternoon.

Watching Andy Griffin on Nick at night.

No train activity going on yet but did clean the den up the other day so it did help me vision a little better how things are going to go in here will have to get bed back out of here either tomorrow night or next weekend when I will be off.

Talk to you all later

Good afternoon everyone.  Been a great day.  Started off with church and then home with the family.  Had visitors in town as it was Wife's, Sister-in-Law's, and Mother in law's birthdays.  We had two cakes and lots of good food.

Chief, I like it!  If I had one, I would have to give it to the bride as I would not want to have folks thinking I am looking for more than what I have.

We too had a lot of rain come through.  Figures, I had just had the wife's car detailed.  The crops and grass need it though.

Got to run.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all, went for early walk today account hot weather later. 103 forcast for today and 107 for tomorrow.  Got all my trains put away this morning after the TCA show yesterday.  I probably won't see my train room until the end of next week if the hot weather keeps up.  Just pray we don't have any wild fires.  Have a good Sunday y'all.

Morning all. Sunny and cool. Leaves turning fast.  Got the new CTT in the mail yesterday. Looks like a nice issue - high rail-ish. Off to church now too. Then hope for a quiet day.

Greetings!  Got up early and worked 6 hours OT, then mowed the lawn and did the trimmer.  Not too hot out today, so it went pretty well except all the rain made the grass grow pretty tall and it was very wet in places.  A friend and his family came over and we put a gauge on my gas tank - empty!  Picked it up, because I thought the gauge must be broken - nope, the tank was empty!  Just since last week?!  Oh well, ran out and got a refilled tank, had a nice bbq dinner, and then played a card game with my friend and the kids while the wives talked.  I'm pooped!!!

Tardis is ready and some banilla would be great, so let's hit it!

Good Evening

sun and warm in ohio, cloudy and cooler here. 56 now.

Yep Doug, Fostoria has a very popular train watching spot. we were told up to 100 trains per day. We saw 1. As for the train show the kindest thing I can say is: it was a great day for a car ride. Came home and crashed on the couch..lol.   Banilla is ready so bring on the thingy...S.J.

Shows you need new glasses.

Howard, are the apples gone up our way?  Mine all are finally gone.  Bet your leaves are already changed.

Banks, got all your corn and hay in???? Most of our tobacco is gone and stalks disked in.  Some corn picked and soybeans are still green.

Bob, have not heard from you but guess you are working at the big spyglass.

Jack, are you still buzzing?

Hello all,

I'm finally settled back in after being out of town this past week.  I returned home last night from my trip to San Antonio.  It was very hot and humid down there.  We stayed at a hotel on the Riverwalk and our conference was in the hotel as well.  However, we had to go out for lunch and dinner every day which meant facing the heat and humidity.  Considering we were wearing business attire it made for some uncomfortable walks to the restaurants.  I am happy to be home and eating my wife's great cooking.  Eating out gets very old after a few days; not to mention the cost as well.  The conference was beneficial and I was able to catch up with some good friends.

I visited two hobby shops in San Antonio.  I did not buy anything as neither one of them had a great selection of O gauge items.  The one store had many Lionel MPC and PW items, but the owner wasn't around so the employee did not want to haggle the prices at all.  I might have picked up an AF Minuteman Boxcar if the employee would have dropped the price a bit.  The other store was very limited in its selection, but at least the owner gave me the two new Lionel catalogs for free.

I spent today cutting the grass and playing with the kids.  I ran the trains for a little while but did not enjoy it as much due to the 1044 not being fully operable.  I had it looked at a few weeks ago to see if anything could be done to get it to sound my modern steam whistle.  The tech said it worked fine and that some older transformers just didn't sound the newer whistles.  I was fine with that response and ready to move on.  However, about a week after the tech had it, I was running trains with it for the first time when the direction/whistle lever felt as if it broke off and kept turning in one direction.  I removed the case to find a spring and lug floating around.  I called the tech and he informed me the way to fix it was to remove the black plate which required unsoldering and then soldering.  I am not skilled in doing that and I'm not sure what I'll do now.  The nearest shop is about 70 miles away, but I'm not sure I want to invest any more money into this transformer any way.  I need to stop wallowing about it.

Good night,

Joe

Evening.  Busy day.  The Animal Control thingy was mostly a guy trying to sell his book and do it by touching animal lovers' heart strings.  Came home and took nap.  Wife wanted to go to the mall so off we went.  No she probably wishes she had not gone with me.  Bougth me a new suit, two shirts, 4 ties and two pair of shoes.  She pays [special Belk's CC in my name but she pays it as 90% her spending]. Big Smile  One of the few things she pays. Confused  Was going to the lake house but got meeting Monday at noon with farmers about their Mexicans. Bang HeadSigh  Would drive up and have to come back tomrrow night.  Suppose to rain tonight and more chances tomorrow and all day Monday.  We need it as has not rained in weeks.

Good afternoon all, just got back from the TCA train meet where I was part of a twosome that set up and ran a layout featuring Southern Pacific trains.  It went pretty well.  We ran DCS and conventional both.  I think I over did it by bringing too much stuff.  I brought nearly every SP engine I own and there was not enough time to run them all.  Weather was very hot over 100.  Just got through putting the stuff back in my garage and it was baking out there.  Drank about a gallon of water after I got back in the house.  Hope those guys at the train meet enjoyed our display.  They may never see it again unless it's in the Winter time.  Next project is being part of the DCS team for the big Cal Stewart train meet in Pasadena in November.  We should have more help at that one.  Today I spent the entire time either setting up, running or tearing down our layout.  Did not even look at table sales or participate in show and tell or anything else.  Just not enough time.  Just had time to choke down a sandwich on the fly while we were operating.  Sweet little kids watching trains made it all worth while.

Good afternoon everyone!  Been getting ready for company.  Picked up a flash for the camera that will allow for some slave flash, etc.  Trying to learn the intricacies of it before some up coming plans....I'll tell later!

John and Jack, I remember the Woodbridge mall.  I did most of my growing in Bergen County, where they have "Blue Laws" prohibiting the sale of clothes, etc., on Sunday.  We would go down there Sunday afternoons.  It was also easier to get around than the Garden State Plaza in Paramus.  My car was never stolen in Jersey, but some fools tried in Miami a few times.

Yeah Chief, some SPCA types are more interested in lining their pockets than helping animals.  That and the "Humane Society of the United States", which is a radical group who interfere with hunting and such.  Another group lining pockets instead of being productiveAngry

Better get to cooking lunch.  HOpe everyone has a blessed weekend.

Aloha all. Pretty fall day here. Teen gets to go to the Notre Dame game with my father-in-law (very nice of him to invite him). Youngest's soccer game in the middle of the day. Nothing too exciting going on. I'll try to avoid lawn work and chores for the rest of the day   Lots of nice train watching in Fostoria, SJ. I like to detour through there on the way to Tiffin. Good train watching there too - right through campus.

HudsonJohn......there used to be a commuter rail stop in Rahway, just a few minutes from my apartment.  We decided to use it and train it into the city.  The stop was tucked in an industrial area and the parking was minimal, overgrown with weeds.  Wife and I pulled in with my 69 Plymouth Fury III with the 383.  Saw a totally stripped 69 Vette sitting on metal crates.  Interior and exterior were completely gone, engine, trans, right down to the instruments.  Left the drive shaft and differential, and that was about it.

We decided the Edison train stop and parking lot might be a better choice and went there.

This was 1973, and Woodbridge Village was brand new,  We were the first occupants of our unit.  BTW.......do you think a few car thieves would have kept my wife from shopping at the Mall?  They'd steal the car but run out of gas before they got out of the parking lot.

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, Hot, Humid and very Windy,

Today my son and I will work on his truck until about noon, then head North to my Mom's for some chores. No Saturday OT for now.

RI Jack, I know those Apartments. Look nice but the Location, Location, Location. The garbage transfer station really put the icing on the cake. Your wife probably loved the Woodbridge Center Mall and the rest of the shopping malls in the area, as long as her car does not get stolen. The Red Lobster by Woodbridge Center is where my wife's 1978 Pontiac Trans Am was stolen in 1982. That area is still a hot spot for stolen cars. I had to laugh when you posted about kicking back during a heavy snow storm. That is why I take vacation time during the Christmas Holidays. Otherwise I am the guy traveling 55 miles North to work for storm duty. I agree with you on relaxing and enjoying the snow and enjoying the seasons.

Fife, The wind is really cranking here. If you go out, enjoy the sail.

Chief,  Good Luck with the meeting.

Pat, I don't know about your wife, but mine always complains about getting in and out of the 4x4 pickup until she takes it because the Explorer and Escort are low on fuel and she knows that mine is always near full.

Chuck, Thanks for sending the dining car this way.

Laz, Enjoy the fishing trip.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

John

Mornin' boys.  Still dark and 73 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Sounds like things are really buzzin' around the Coffee Pot.  Took wifey to Bahama Breeze for dinner last night.  She has been battlin' with oldest princess all week, and needed a nice night out.

 dwiemer - Congats on 10.

Have to drop middle princess off at Station 47 this am for their pitbeef sale.  She really enjoys her EMT classes.

Fifepup got his boot off yesterday, and can't wait to go to M&T Stadium tomorrow.

Hope to go sailing today.

Granddaughters aged 7 and 1 are spending the night tomorrow.  Grammy asked me to clean the bedroom they use.  I was going to point out that the kids don't really care how clean their bedroom is........then I came to my senses.

My SRX goes into the body shop Monday to have the right rear quarter panel repaired, yet again.  It was hit in a parking lot for the second time in four months.  I had taken the wife and the family out for a lobster/corn on the cob dinner at an old favorite restaurant after we had helped out at an eight hour church fundraising event.  No good deed shall go unpunished.  The perpetrator skipped, and I have to cover the deductible.  Expensive dinner  What ever happened to personal responsibility and honesty?

It was another beautiful Fall evening here in New England.  It was 73 about an hour ago.  We've had a stunning full moon the last few nights.  The leaves are turning in new Hampshire to the North of us, and we can see the difference when we drive the 50 miles up there for dog training.

Some on the Pot may say we Northerners are nuts for living in a place where the Winters can be harsh at times, but for me it makes me appreciate the other three seasons all the more.  There is something comforting about kicking back during a heavy snowstorm to a fire in the fireplace and a beer as the day winds down.  Or a white Christmas with the aroma of a freshly cut Christmas tree and balsam garland, and the sounds and smells of the old 2046 making its way around my wife's lighted Christmas village.  Just like it was nearly six decades ago for me.

Off to bed!  I have concluded that on balance life is good, if we make it so.

Jack.

Lucy, I'm home !

What a long week. Family started arriving on sunday evening, last portion arrived monday evening so starting on tuesday morning I was "tour guide" for a whirlwind trip to Laughlin & Lost Wages Nv. Sure glad I'm not a gambler. Got home last evening with just enuff energy to put together the goodies for my museum run. Now it's almost nite-nite time. This old geezer can't handle the running around casinos til the wee hours of the morning. Dead

Will catch-up tomorrow.

Chief, sounds like you have some entertaining stories to tell from your past.  We had some stories too on the railroad.  We used to see streakers at grade crossings in the middle of the night.  One time I wasn't even working  but riding an excursion train in the redwoods in Northern California when we encountered a couple making love along a river bank in full view of the passengers on the train.  They knew it too but that's what they wanted to do.    Another guy who was well endowed exposed himself to train riders crossing over a creek where he was standing and waving at us.  The crazies are out there.

Got our new printer today and son hooked it up.  Everything works fine.

Jack, I don't use a dremmel for tooth brushing but I think my hygentist uses a jack hammer.

Got my trains packed up and ready to take to the train meet tomorrow.  Got everything loaded on a cart then discovered it would not go through my door. Duh!  Have to unload and reload in the morning.

Hot weather is with us again for a few days.  Triple digits tomorrow.

Good night all,

Ray
