Good evening everyone.  Was a good day yesterday (now).  Worked early and then done.  Had an Angio Screening done, where they do an ultra-sound on the carotid arteries to make sure they are clear, then they do blood presser comparisons to the arms and legs.  This is a good way to see if you have peripheral artery disease.  All was clear, but I do have an irregular heart rhythm.  Not to be concerned.  Anyway, For most of us here, it would be prudent to have one of these done.  My insurance covers all costs as part of my "Wellness" visit.

Pat, I did see the post about the physician's rail car.  I have seen one of those before.  They are neat, but I wouldn't want to be on one on a line without signals!  I saw one that was powered too.  It had a big center-mounted handle that controlled forward motion and breaking.

Don, tell your bride "great minds think alike".  Now she is worried I am sure!

Jim, remember, it is always easier to look for a job when you already have one.  I think it takes the desperation out of the equation and you can work your best deal.  Good luck!

Tonight, took family to "Disney on Ice", which was the one with the "Princess Heroes".  Kids loved it and we enjoyed the time with them.  Bought each child one of those battery operated toys that lights and spins.....$20 each!  Told the guy selling them that I felt like I had been "violated".  Oh well, the kids loved it.  Afterwards, we went out for cold stone ice cream and then came home.
I am about wooped.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

James T - love that show and that's a great scene Thumbs Up  Best of luck on that job, sure hope you get it if you want it.  Sounds like it's a step up and you can always keep putting in for other jobs, right?  I don't like shift work though, not if they keep changing your hours.

Don - glad you are getting better, hang in there man!

Char's numbers were a little better Thursday, so they will do follow-up on Monday.  She feels really bad, though - aches and pains and nauseated, etc.  All has to do with inflamed liver and spleen.  They think her body will take care of it right now, so monitoring.  In the meantime, going back to work is on hold of course.

Got a little money from work for hitting out goals, about 1/10th what I would have liked.  Think I'll splurge and spend it on the new Iron Man bluray tomorrow on the way home from work.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I think the interview went well, although they haven't made an offer as of yet.  The title of the job is Cleaning Room Technician, so I thought that it would be in a lab doing semiconductor work.  Wrong.  It is actually cleaning finished metal parts in their machine shop.  Being that it is shift work and only pays $11/hour, I am not sure if I'd accept.  Maybe I should wait for something better.

The good news here today is that the Everybody Loves Raymond boxed set that I bought arrived, and I've been watching that to take my mind off of the job hunt.  All 210 episodes plus bonus content.  Here is one of my favorite scenes. Laugh

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore,

Feels good to be home for the weekend. Tropical Storm Nicole was not as bad as expected. We had flooding and some outages, but it could have been worse. The winds have slowed down and it s getting cooler. This weekend I am planning to cut the grass, work on my son's truck and split some more wood.

Green97Probe, Jim, I hope the interview went well.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Good morning all, lots of thunder boomers around this morning but no rain.  We got a few sprinkles but that was it.  Maybe it rained in the mountains above us.

Don, I will look for you in Duarte.

Got swimming pool cleaned this morning by #2 son.  Did a great job.  I think the swimming is just about over for the year.  Temp is down to about 74 now.  Was 80 at the high point.

No trains with Thursday group last night.  Too hot and humid.  Going out to lunch today instead.

Have a good day y'all,

Ray

I spoke too soon, just when I was getting ready to go out for lunch, the bottom fell out of the sky.  It rained like Niagra Falls for about l/2 hour.  We also had some hail.  This is very unusual for this time of year in Southern California.  It's too early for the rainy season but the rain was welcome.

Embarrassedhey jack, as a kid who was brought up on the northwest side of chicago, i can say it has always been corupt but peaceful. when we drove anywhere as kids, we had a five dollar bill in our wallet in case we were stopped by the cops for their lunch,  i had it happen to me twice. good memories.  i cant see rahm imanuel as mayor.  go figure.  navyjack

Just a quick spash and go.

SirJames posted yesterday that he was going out to mow the lawn, thereby guilting positively influencing me to do the same.   Mowing the rear was a two hour project because now is the time of the year that I start lowering the mower blade for the eventual shorter winter height.  Mowed twice, in two directions.  Bagged and emptied about 8/40 gallon barrels of grass onto the compost pile.  Leaves not much of a factor yet.   Was hot and filthy at this point anyway, so I started to clean dead stuff and a few weeds out the wife's flower gardens.  Then it was time to trim, but I out of weed wacker twine; so I couldn't finish the edging.  After the job was done, the dog felt compelled do some maintenace of his own and start remarking his territory.  yard work is a never-ending process for me, not an event.

The weather forecasts for my neck of the woods has been changing daily.  One front is approaching from the West while TS Nicole slowed down and is just arriving now.  Original forecasts earlier in the week called for 4+ inches of rain for me, but it looks like I now may get off with just 2.

DougM.....so Rahm Emanuel has resigned his post as the President's chief of staff in Washington for a run at Chicago's opening for Mayor.  For most of my life there has been a Daly in office, first Richard J.(1955-1976) and then his son Richard M. (1989-2011).  That's over 42 years between father and son.  Say what you will about their old school poitics and imperial attitudes.  Chicago remains an amazingly beautiful, fascinating, and relatively clean city which in my mind has improved with age.

Winds are picking up and severe thunderstorm warnings flashing across the bottom of the TV screen, so I had better get the dog out before the SX%T hits the fan.

Later, gang.

Thanks again for all the birthday wishes. I have never received so many "Happy Birthdays" for one birthday.

Dennis - Did you see my post about the Drs. cycle that peddled on RR tracks in the WV mountains in the 1920's?

Jack - Manure on shoes is a common sight at the restaurants we frequent. Adds to the atmosphere.

Ole Timer - The gal you sent me reminds me of Don's neighbor + 50 years.

Don - Great buy on the scenery. I am envious!

Banks - It's nice to have city neighbors that understand when cows get out. I know from experience. Fortunately, we are well away from any county road where the cows could interfere with traffic.

Aloha all. Wow, lots of rain out east I guess. Absolutely Beautiful here. I drove into the city, parked at our newest suburban campus and took the CTA Blue line into work - it took me longer to take that train than to drive 35 miles in rush hour traffic. LOL. Always enjoy the view from the L.

Joe, Congrats on 16 years!

Jim, Good luck with the interview.

Don, can't wait to see the backgrounds  What an awesome pick-up. Unique and a good deal

Hello all,

Still on September POT???????

Still mostly lurking but trying to keep up. Belated Happy B-Day to Pat and congrats to DEmay & his Mrs on 16 years together.

Chief, Hay has been done for a while now. Most of the second cutting was chopped and fed because the pasture was gone. It was so short there wouldn't have been much hay anyway. Corn will be ready soon with the 'beans not far behind. They'll be a few weeks early because of the dry weather.

We received 5 + inches of rain this week. I didn't empty the rain gauge on Tuesday and it was overflowing this morning after Nicole. All that rain and the creeks came up very little. A good thing. Maybe the pasture will grow and I can cut back on feeding hay.

Pat, the cows get out on occasion. Since I am surrounded by housing developments they don't get far before someone lets me know. Usually they will help round them up.

Still piddling with grandson's four wheeler. Got to admit it's got me baffled. Got it narrowed down to a fuel problem but can't pin down why it won't run good.

Last Hill Climb of the season on Sunday. Maybe some train time coming up??

Please keep my son's job prospect's in your prayers.

Best get back to work

Prayers for all who may need them

Don......it certainly is uplifting to read not only the text of your post but also the tone.  From the tone it sounds like you have turned the corner on the bugs.  But pharmaceuticals and time can only do so much.  The rest is up to you.  I hope your life and schedule permit you some more time to reach 100%.  Prayers for your continued recovery.

We have some theories about how your path crossed with these bugs but cannot express them in this family forum.  Whistling

Good morning all,

SOSO with temps in the low 70s.  Watched "my" soccer girls play very well in a 2-0 loss to a very good team.  Tried to give the JV team a little inspirational talk which backfired in a 7-0 pounding.  "Lose one for the Gipper".  The HS boys lost their last game of the regular season 1-0 as well.  I had the regular fare for breakfast on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime tonight.  Last race of the IRL season is tomorrow night.  Sarah will have Pink sidewalls on her tires.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening,

Dennis - Funny you should mention the thing about the Yogurt, my wife was just talking about that to me yesterday.  Suggesting exactly the same thing, I read your post to her tonight, and she simply said, "He is a SMART man".

Ray - Think I will make it to the train meet on Sunday in Duarte.  With the meds currently taking is says stay out of the direct sun.  So we are going to take Sunday Off.  I will most likely have 2 other guys there as well.  Hopefully will see you there.

Jim - Thoughts and Best Wishes for Friday.  I was surprised when I saw what your degree was in.  My Bachelor Degree is in Industrial Technology with Electronics Option.  (Major was subsequently renamed to Engineering Technology.  For the first 20 years Head Hunters were calling weekly trying to fill positions, it was definetly a matter of selecting "whom" you wanted to work for.  Wish those times were still here.)

Doug (DG) - From what I see in the forecast looks like you will be seeing more weird weather this weekend, its pretty much going around us, from you right up to Ray.

Also I had an EXTREMELY interesting day!  A local restaurant closed after 25 years, they had a G-Scale train running around the entire dinning areas, 2 large rooms.  Anyway I wasn't able to get any  of the trains or track :(  But the scenery that was behind the trains.......  This scenery is countryside oil paintings on canvas, all hand painted.   All of them are 24" wide, and the majority are 16 feet long.  The scenes represent various landscapes across the country.  From the west coastline, to the Redwoods, Spires and Mountains in Utah, Saguaro Cactus and Desert, plantations, farms and fields, forrests, Side Wheeler River  Boats, and much, much more!  Ended up with a total of 161 feet, 11 sections,  and the cost was like $5 a section.  So it will end up at the top of my train room as backdrop scenery,   Hopefully I can get some pictures of it.

Hope you all have a great day!!

Don

Pat.....it was your birthday?    Hope you didn't step in any cow manure before you went out to dinner to celebrate.  The other patrons would take offense and think that essence was you and not the cows.

Sunny and about 70 today.

1st session of P.T. today.  They tell me that I have a plica - roughly explained, an inflamed wrinkle in the knee joint lining.  Stretching and ultrasound.  N,o I was not as lucky as Chuck.  Don't have a cute therapist - he isn't even close.

Nothing on the train front.  Just waiting on the two axle magnetraction motor for the #600 switcher.

Happy birthday for Pat, good luck on the job interview Jim, and prayers for those recovering from various ailments.

All for now.
