Lunch Time at Edison, NJ. Nice Sicilian Pizza for lunch today.

Busy with the normal stuff, nothing funny or out of the ordinary.

Gas, Cars & Wives: It must be universal with wives. In NJ WE DON'T PUMP OUR OWN GAS, and the WIFE STILL PUTS IT OFF UNTIL I USE THE VEHICLE. The woman at work do the same to the Company Vehicles.

NavyJack, Good to see you back.

Rich, Good Luck with the job hunt.

Thoughts and Prayers to all in need.

Good Afternoon, Ya'll, From Partly Sunny and Mid 70's taxachusetts,

I'm having problems with bees who have decided my office might make a good home for the Winter.  I can't figure out how they are getting in.  They are nowhere else in the house.  I've had the same window a/c unit in the second story window (Southern exposure) for the past 3 years or so, and the unit was new then.  Figured they were getting into the a/c unit through the external drainage hole and were nesting inside the unit, then making their way from there into the room.  To be thorough, I rechecked the side curtains, resealed the gap betweens the double hung windows, and carefully checked for any other gaps all around the unit.  Still bees.  Then I put plastic over the entire front of the a/c unit to make sure they weren't getting in due to any compromised screening inside the unit.  Still bees.  I think I will just give up for the season and deal with it next Spring.  Must call my son to come over and take the unit out from inside the room while I quietly leave and close the door.  If there is any yelling and screaming coming from the room, I will have at least confirmed the suckers are nested and gaining access through the a/c unit.  Smile, Wink & Grin

NavyJack and Gigi......prayers you are feeling and getting better.  I missed a lot when my pc was out for repair and didn't know you were under the weather.

HudsonJohn.....decades ago I had accepted a promotion with my company and moving with my family from Chicago out to our Northeast Regional office.  Was looking for an apartment for me and my bride.  Found a brand new place called Woodbridge Village in Avenel, complete with an outdoor pool, a clubhouse with exercise equipment, weekly social parties, and great parking right near my door albeit outside.  Commute to work was just 10 minutes!  In all of the patting myself on the back for finding such a wonderful abode, I neglected to notice the maximum security prison in the skyline or the smell of the nearby Middlesex garbage dump.  On those Summer evenings when basking on the deck, the winds swung around, and they came in from the North, refuge had to be taken indoors!  Bang Head

Spanky.....have a safe and productive trip North to NJ.  Thumbs Up

Rich.....sounds like some Rocky music is in order as you whip that old, tired, used up, rundown body back into shape for the PT.  Consult Chuck and Spanky for advice, but beware.  Word on the rails is that their consultation services don't come cheap.  Whistling

Brent.....my wife won't even accompany me when gas is needed.  She sometimes gets annoyed if I pull in to get gas in my car on the way to the Mall.  And she too will drive right past a gas station, despite a dead empty tank.  She needs an automatically triggered air horn to go off when she gets low because she NEVER looks at the gauge. Over the years I have been warning her that one of these days she'd run out at a most dangerous or innopportune time and place.  Then I tried to explain to her the fuel pump in the car depended upon fuel in the tank to remain cool and not experience premature failure.  About three months ago she asked me to go get gas for her, and the car quit right as I was approaching the gas station; but I was able to coast to the pumps, closest call yet.  Bang Head

Dennis.....you have neglected to tell us which anniversary this is for you so that we can expound on how your wife is a saint for putting up with you for all these years.  Happy anniversary to you and condolences to your bride!  Big Smile

JimmyT.....hang in there on the job search.  A top tier resume makes a statement to a prospective employer.

RaySP.....you're not supposed to use your Dremel to brush your teeth.  Laugh

Bob.....from all outward appearances it seems your Mom has commandeered your pc, prventing you from communicating with us!  Hang in there!

Later, gang, and may God bless.

Jack, call your local USDA office.  They will get you in touch with a bee keeper.  Bees are becoming scarce.  A mite and other things have reduced the honey bee population all over the USA.  Bee keepers would love to come and remove them for you.  They'll get the queen and the others will come to her.  They will put them in one of their hives for safety.

Lost my entire post somehow, so here is the Cliffs Notes version.  I wonder if the lost post and the Comcast crew out in front of my house are somehow connected.  They are trying to replace the plastic sleeve that protects all the wires down in the hole and put a new, secured lid on it.  One guy is swinging a pick axe and I hope he doesn't take out all the wiring down there.  Includes my internet, phone, and electricity.

Bees continue to invade just my second floor home office, getting in through the window a/c unit despite my best efforts to thwart them, looking for a home for the Winter.  First time this has ever happened; so I think I will have my son come over and take the unit out and place it in storage until Spring.....carefully neglecting to tell him there's a nest in there while I slip out of the room and close the door.  After the screams of pain and terror subside from the room, I may be able to figure some things about how they are getting in.  Whistling

NavyJack and Gigi......hope you are feeling and getting better.  I must have missed some things when I was without a pc.

Brutus.....hope all lights are still green for Char's return to work.  Prayers, brother.

Spanky....safe travels on your trip to NJ and back!

Rich.....prayers some Rocky regimen and a case of ibuprofen help whip your old, tired, used up carcass back into shape for your PT. Laugh

Brent and DougM.....there is logic, and then there is women's logic.  I gave up a long time trying to make sense of the latter with my wife.  I just smile and agree a lot.  My SIL erroneously tries to argue with my daughter when he doesn't realize this is one of those things in life that is immutable.

Dennis.......anniversary congratulations to you, and condolences to your better half.  St. Kim, has a ring to it.  Big Smile

JimmyT....continued prayers for a successful job search.  Your resume is often your only chance to make a good first impression, differentiate you from the herd, and get you in the door when others are moved to the reject pile.  I swear that the Lord's credentials wouldn't get one in the door these days.

RaySP......you might have better luck if you stop using a Dremel to brush your teeth.

Prayers for those who need them.  Later, gang.

Jack.

Afternoon all

My bride is back from the Holy Land.  Good to have her home.  Got the parts to restore the Washington set ordered from Portlines.

Rich – Good luck on the PT test – one step at a time, it’s not who gets there first it’s who gets there

Dennis – Happy Anniversary, just do like in the movie Fireproof.

Going to be out of town this weekend so take care.

May God bless

Sounds like 99% of our wife's are the same on the gas thing.

Mine starts hounding me to gas up her little sports car as soon as the gauge drops below 1/2. If I stall for a day or two she knows it works for her to commander my pick-up to go shopping.

Can't be without my truck here on the farm. I wander what she would do if I drove her car around the pastures? (best not take that chance!)

Good evening guys.  Been a good day, but long...I'm tuckered!  First, thanks for the anniversary wishes.  It has been 10 years (I know, we married late in life).  At least I got my wild side taken care of and was able to head into it with the right frame of mind.  Guess it comes down to God's timing.

Brent, I know how it is.  My bride usually waits till the light is on to fill up...my rule was always 1/4 tank.   For the first 5 years of marriage, my wife never had to fill the vehicles.  I had always taken care of it.  Then, when it came time to dropping kids off at school, ballet, etc., she had to start doing so again.  I still will usually do it when she lets the gas get down.  Can't complain, she still loves me despite all my faults, and she does a lot of work with the kids and around the house.

Wife's birthday is tomorrow and her family is coming over.  Going to fill the house to the rafters.  It should be OK as I have plenty of running around to do, so I will not be stuck entertaining.

Jack, hope you are able to do Chief's suggestion and get the bees out.  Down here, we get inundated with "lady bugs".  They get everywhere.  Can't really get rid of them as they find their way in through the roof vents, etc.  It has gotten better the last few years.

I had more to say, but I am too tired to stay awake and recall it all.  Anyway, hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Dennis

Just watched Blue Bloods on CBS.  New series and its good.  Off to bed.  9 AM meeting in Raleigh tomorrow. Super Angry Caused by the local SPCA.  They are trouble makers.  Got left out of what the thought was a County contract.  Then they got ugly.  Actually our County shelter and adoption center is a lot better than theirs.  They have a fancy place as a front.  Then another shelter that is not good at all. Chief, sounds like you have some entertaining stories to tell from your past.  We had some stories too on the railroad.  We used to see streakers at grade crossings in the middle of the night.  One time I wasn't even working  but riding an excursion train in the redwoods in Northern California when we encountered a couple making love along a river bank in full view of the passengers on the train.  They knew it too but that's what they wanted to do.    Another guy who was well endowed exposed himself to train riders crossing over a creek where he was standing and waving at us.  The crazies are out there.

Got our new printer today and son hooked it up.  Everything works fine.

Jack, I don't use a dremmel for tooth brushing but I think my hygentist uses a jack hammer.

Got my trains packed up and ready to take to the train meet tomorrow.  Got everything loaded on a cart then discovered it would not go through my door. Duh!  Have to unload and reload in the morning.

Hot weather is with us again for a few days.  Triple digits tomorrow.

Good night all,

Ray

What a long week. Family started arriving on sunday evening, last portion arrived monday evening so starting on tuesday morning I was "tour guide" for a whirlwind trip to Laughlin & Lost Wages Nv. Sure glad I'm not a gambler. Got home last evening with just enuff energy to put together the goodies for my museum run. Now it's almost nite-nite time. This old geezer can't handle the running around casinos til the wee hours of the morning. Dead

Will catch-up tomorrow.

Granddaughters aged 7 and 1 are spending the night tomorrow.  Grammy asked me to clean the bedroom they use.  I was going to point out that the kids don't really care how clean their bedroom is........then I came to my senses.

My SRX goes into the body shop Monday to have the right rear quarter panel repaired, yet again.  It was hit in a parking lot for the second time in four months.  I had taken the wife and the family out for a lobster/corn on the cob dinner at an old favorite restaurant after we had helped out at an eight hour church fundraising event.  No good deed shall go unpunished.  The perpetrator skipped, and I have to cover the deductible.  Expensive dinner  What ever happened to personal responsibility and honesty?

It was another beautiful Fall evening here in New England.  It was 73 about an hour ago.  We've had a stunning full moon the last few nights.  The leaves are turning in new Hampshire to the North of us, and we can see the difference when we drive the 50 miles up there for dog training.

Some on the Pot may say we Northerners are nuts for living in a place where the Winters can be harsh at times, but for me it makes me appreciate the other three seasons all the more.  There is something comforting about kicking back during a heavy snowstorm to a fire in the fireplace and a beer as the day winds down.  Or a white Christmas with the aroma of a freshly cut Christmas tree and balsam garland, and the sounds and smells of the old 2046 making its way around my wife's lighted Christmas village.  Just like it was nearly six decades ago for me.

Off to bed!  I have concluded that on balance life is good, if we make it so.

Jack.

Mornin' boys.  Still dark and 73 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Sounds like things are really buzzin' around the Coffee Pot.  Took wifey to Bahama Breeze for dinner last night.  She has been battlin' with oldest princess all week, and needed a nice night out.

 dwiemer - Congats on 10.

Have to drop middle princess off at Station 47 this am for their pitbeef sale.  She really enjoys her EMT classes.

Fifepup got his boot off yesterday, and can't wait to go to M&T Stadium tomorrow.

Hope to go sailing today.

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, Hot, Humid and very Windy,

Today my son and I will work on his truck until about noon, then head North to my Mom's for some chores. No Saturday OT for now.

RI Jack, I know those Apartments. Look nice but the Location, Location, Location. The garbage transfer station really put the icing on the cake. Your wife probably loved the Woodbridge Center Mall and the rest of the shopping malls in the area, as long as her car does not get stolen. The Red Lobster by Woodbridge Center is where my wife's 1978 Pontiac Trans Am was stolen in 1982. That area is still a hot spot for stolen cars. I had to laugh when you posted about kicking back during a heavy snow storm. That is why I take vacation time during the Christmas Holidays. Otherwise I am the guy traveling 55 miles North to work for storm duty. I agree with you on relaxing and enjoying the snow and enjoying the seasons.

Fife, The wind is really cranking here. If you go out, enjoy the sail.

Chief,  Good Luck with the meeting.

Pat, I don't know about your wife, but mine always complains about getting in and out of the 4x4 pickup until she takes it because the Explorer and Escort are low on fuel and she knows that mine is always near full.

Chuck, Thanks for sending the dining car this way.

Laz, Enjoy the fishing trip.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

John

HudsonJohn......there used to be a commuter rail stop in Rahway, just a few minutes from my apartment.  We decided to use it and train it into the city.  The stop was tucked in an industrial area and the parking was minimal, overgrown with weeds.  Wife and I pulled in with my 69 Plymouth Fury III with the 383.  Saw a totally stripped 69 Vette sitting on metal crates.  Interior and exterior were completely gone, engine, trans, right down to the instruments.  Left the drive shaft and differential, and that was about it.

We decided the Edison train stop and parking lot might be a better choice and went there.

This was 1973, and Woodbridge Village was brand new,  We were the first occupants of our unit.  BTW.......do you think a few car thieves would have kept my wife from shopping at the Mall?  They'd steal the car but run out of gas before they got out of the parking lot.

Aloha all. Pretty fall day here. Teen gets to go to the Notre Dame game with my father-in-law (very nice of him to invite him). Youngest's soccer game in the middle of the day. Nothing too exciting going on. I'll try to avoid lawn work and chores for the rest of the day   Lots of nice train watching in Fostoria, SJ. I like to detour through there on the way to Tiffin. Good train watching there too - right through campus.

Good afternoon everyone!  Been getting ready for company.  Picked up a flash for the camera that will allow for some slave flash, etc.  Trying to learn the intricacies of it before some up coming plans....I'll tell later!

John and Jack, I remember the Woodbridge mall.  I did most of my growing in Bergen County, where they have "Blue Laws" prohibiting the sale of clothes, etc., on Sunday.  We would go down there Sunday afternoons.  It was also easier to get around than the Garden State Plaza in Paramus.  My car was never stolen in Jersey, but some fools tried in Miami a few times.

Yeah Chief, some SPCA types are more interested in lining their pockets than helping animals.  That and the "Humane Society of the United States", which is a radical group who interfere with hunting and such.  Another group lining pockets instead of being productiveAngry

Better get to cooking lunch.  HOpe everyone has a blessed weekend.
