Morning all.  RAINING and has been since I posted.  Inches they say.  Meet with farmers at noon and then lake house.

Big prayer request.  Shake and Bake [Don Baker] has been sick and is now recovering [per email].  It was rather shakey [really].

RT, hope you get cooled off.

Actually cool outside here.  Seems fall may have finally gotten here.  Think we made hottest September on record.  Also longest run of 90+ days for September on record.

Coffee and cherry turnover time.

Speaking of apple pie toppings, has anyone heard of putting giblet gravy on apple pie? No kidding, my grandfather's favorite some 45 years ago. I haven't had it lately, but it was good.

Shake n Bake - eat more GRITS, the boxed kind or the Bumper Sticker kind.

Boring NASCAR race Sun. we need to retire Jimmie Johnson. Even Edwards bowed down to JJ by backing off and not spinning him out. They were running 1 and 2 at the time.

Mornin' All.

Finally begining to recover from the whirlwind tour of Nv.

Saw very limited rail action while on I-15 going up-n-over Cajon Pass but once we were on I-40 out of Barstow it was one right after another in both directions. Saw a few really long ones with 4 and 5 units, BNSF, on the head end with 2 and 3 pushers bringing up the rear. Got a bit of a chuckle when SWMBO saw some double stack containers for the first time while waiting at a crossing on US-95. Smile, Wink & Grin

Thankfully all went well at the museum friday, since I was kinda wandering around in a fog. Been hotter than you know what here of late, they say it should be cooling off mid-week or so (believe it when I see it).

See where Michael's is having a 40% off sale on their Lemax halloween stuff, almost popped for the ferris wheel but still to hard to justify the expense.

Prayers & thoughts for all in need, especially Senior Shake-n-Bake.

Opthamologist tomorrow and dentist on wednesday. Sigh

Later all !

Chief, thank you for the heads up about D.Baker.  I am concerned about him and will try to follow up.  He and I have become aquainted since I started posting on the Forum and he has done me some favors for which I am grateful.  Hope he is feeling better and I will certainly include him in prayers.

Hot weather still with us on the way to 107 forcast for today.

My wife tried out the new printer this morning and as soon as she turned it on, it started printing out some AOL news garbage automatically that we did not request.  Got to figure out how to stop that.  It is a waste of printing paper.  Printer also had a paper jam but got that cleared out.  Now everything is back to normal.

Technology is wonderful.  Have a good day,

Ray

Evenin' boys.  Rain and 77 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Had a good weekend, with sail on Saturday, and RAVENS game with fifepup yesterday.  Cleveland fans, take heart, yuz guyz have a good offense in the making.  Hillis is a bear.  Making bar-b-q chicken for dinner.

dbaker - Please get well. And do so quickly.

Harold -  The John Brown's home port is here in Baltimore.  I've had the cool experience of sailing near her, and man, is she big.

Looks like our own Raymans and Seayak Bill made the latest issue of CTT.  Kudos.

Good Afternoon From Rainy and Chilly Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

High temps have gone from the high 80s to the high 50s in a couple of days!  I had the heating plant serviced last month to make sure I was ready for Winter.  Wife hasn't complained about being cold, even though we had a couple of nights in the low 40s.  I must be keeping her HOT!  We need some global warming here.

On the pest control front, I took the FIL's advice.  Started spraying Raid Wasp and Hornet spray into the window a/c unit, even though I couldn't see where it was all going......only two bees in two days, so the elder statesman knows what he's talking about.  Repeat applications to continue.  Dropped the SRX off this am to have the quarter panel repaired, and the whole expense will come out of my own pocket because I carry a high deductible.  Whoever hit my car in the parking lot and skipped, may the Lord give you a rash where the sun doesn't shine.

DonB AKA Shake-N-Bake, prayers for your fast and complete recovery.  You and your steadying influence are needed here, especially by the Southerners.

NavyJack......  continued prayers for your wife's and your recovery.  Didn't all of this start out with food poisoning?

SJ......it must be depressing to have to suffer over so long with the Lions.  What is wrong with that franchise anyway?

Chuck......you said you went to PT for a few hours.  What were you exercising over such a long period of time?  Are your eyes out of shape?

Bob.....glad your visit from your Mom was great.  I miss my folks, lost my Mom 16 years ago.

Pat......I agree with you about the Southern belles.  It's the Southern gents we Northerners find tedious.

RaySP.....prayers you don't wind up with more wildfires.  It seems if it isn't wildfires it is mudslides and earthquakes out there on the Left Coast.  At least you have effective, honest politicians.    BTW, what's next on Arnold's agenda?

Chief......sharing your rain all up and down the East coast.  We sure did need it here.  Thank you for the heads up on DonB.

RT........hope the a/c repairman finds something cheap and simple to repair.

Dennis.......what a birthday bash you must have had with your saint of a wife, your SIL, and your MIL!  to them!

JimmyT.....have some anal retentive, detailed person go over your resume with a fine-toothed comb.  You might be surprised what another pair of eyes finds that you missed.

Wes.....we missed you over the past few months, despite what Chief says.  He missed you too, so much so that he has been scarce on the Pot himself......until about a week ago or so.

SJ/Brutus/Wes........hot apple pie ala mode.    YUMMY!

DJ......glad you arrived home safely from your trip up and back to NJ.

HudsonJohn......I moved to NJ in 1973 from Chicago.  Hard to say it, but from the sounds of things a Mall was far preferable to what it replaced.  My wife liked it.  A buddy of mine, an engineer at a chemical plant, kept inviting me to join him for lunch in Carteret at some bar that featured ladies who were less than scantily clad.  I didn't want to join him, but I felt he would be hurt if I didn't.

Can't wait for Laz' fish stories.

Congas for Raymans and Seayakbill for your CTT appearance!

I was three days behind on posts, so prayers for those need them, for those whom I missed.  Later, gang.

Smile...........jack the pics of your dobie bring me back.  what a good looking dog.  does he have a nice temperment?..........

 navyjack

Thank you for the compliment about Maximus. He is our fourth Doberman.  He has the perfect family temperment and is great with the grandchildren, our relatives, all of our friends, strangers, and with other dogs.  Maximus will be two next month.

In the past year he has been the booth greeter for our dog trainer's business at four festivals that were raising money for local humane societies and animal shelters, and at two church festivals, more fundraising.   Our job is to help teach the kids and parents about dog safety.  Maximus and my wife also participate in the dog obedience demonstrations at these events..

Maximus goes with us to our granddaughter's soccer games, cookouts.....any and every place we can take him in the real world to keep the socialization at the front and center, even if that means taking him to the Mall and my working him around the entrance/exit doors while my wife shops.  Any place where there are a lot of distractions, new sights, new sounds, weird people.  Our plan is to eventually earn his TDI (Therapy Dog International) and get his certification to work at rehab facilities, nursing homes, and extended stay health care facilities.  We train with about a half dozen Dobermans that are also therapy dogs.

I realize most folks look at Dobermans with a jaded view.    Breeding, upbringing, and training.  Blame the owner, not the breed is my motto.

Smilehey guys hope that you are all well.  i am a little better today, and yes rt my sickness started out with food poisoning and then went to a virus.  it is hard to shake.  now my son sean has it also. jack max is amazing.  you trained him well.  i trained my dobie to keep the drug dealers away from my yard in ca. but in spite he was great to my kids. not to strangers though.  did not trust them. my first rifle was a surplus lee-enfield, that i bought from klein sporting goods in chicago.  i did not fire it much as i recall the ammo was expensive. guys the k=line crane is great for those who love postwar.  has a die cast base.  pat you still got maters left? john, my grandson says your fishing boat is cool.  navyjack

Howdy guys - busy day in Brutus land.  Wife's test came back with elevated liver function results.  This is one of the classic types of rejection for her transplant type.  They did some tests today.  Tomorrow they will do an ultrasound and then Thursday more bloodwork.  Depending on all that, she will probably have a surgery next week to do a biopsy - they would have to go in through an artery to get the biopsy they want.  If it is graft versus host, she will be on steroids for a while, but this is not considered life threatening.  She won't be going back to work until this is all settled, though - so we will have to get some paperwork done for that (again).

Tardis will be ready shortly, Mike's driving and the first round is on me.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Brutus, prayers for a good outcome on your wife's upcoming procedure.

Good afternoon all,  Temp well over 100 today.  We had a power failure at 3:00PM at the height of the heat for today.  New neighbor next door (firefighter) let me hook up to his emergency genererator to keep our refrigerator going.  Wife and I went to the Glendora Library to ride out the heat this afternoon.  Power is back on again now and A/C is really cranking to cool off house again.

Spoke to D.Baker this afternoon.  He is feeling a little better but has a way to go yet.  Say he has a doctor's appointment soon.

Hot dogs and beans tonight unless I get a better offer.  Too hot to cook.

Later,

Wow.  At least 8 pages of the Pot since I last posted.  Fall weather is arriving.  Lows dipping into the 50's and higs in the mid 70's to mid 80's.  I really like this time of year.

Prayers for recovery, and employment.

I won a 600 series switcher two axle power truck on e-bay tonight.  Upgrade for my #600 MKT.

Had a MRI done on my knee today.  Hopefully, it will shed some light on why it has been swollen and sore for the last 6 weeks.  Got to determine what the problem is before the repair can be made.

My wife is out with the girls tonight, playing bunco (a dice game).  Good sign that she is feeling better.

I got the grout in the hex tile in the bathroom floor this weekend, and about 1/3 of the subway tile up on the walls.  Of course the one tile that got broken was the unique outside corner cove baseboard tile.  Of course it is not a stock item at the local store or their supplier.

Bob - "jacking the building up to service the bearings" is a statement you don't hear every day.

All for now.

Wow, this is a chatty bunch these past few days!  Got home a short while ago and finally catching up on email and the forum.  Prayers being said for Don, Brutus' Bride, Bob, and a few others not mentioned.   One of the guys I work with lost his Mother In Law to cancer and they had the visitation yesterday, with the burial today.  I was supposed to be off call and off work as we have a great ReFresh conference at our church.  Anyway, I had to cover for the guy at work and got called in last night.  Got home after 0200 this morning, only to turn around and go back at 0600 for two more cases.  Was  a long day and then had  a short nap and back to church.  It will go through to Wed. night, but has been great to feel the spirit of God working.

Mike, a movie that was just released that one of our guys who worked on the latest project produced is called "Like Dandelion Dust".  It is about adoption, so anyone who has been touched with this great thing, you may want to check it out.  Good movie with a great message.

Earlier, someone stated that their heat came on.  As a precaution, everyone should check out their heating system, or have it checked before the season kicks into high gear.  I remember a number of Oil burner fires caused by blow-back when the systems would start at the beginning of the season.  Between the chance for fires, and the possible carbon monoxide issues, it is well worth it to keep your families safe.

Well, with only a few hours of sleep over the last few days, I have hit my limit.  Hope each of you has a blessed night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Evening All !

First things first, I really appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, and good wishes from everyone!  Even received a couple of phone calls, and some emails as well.  I have praised this forum before for the comrade and friendship that abounds on these pages, but the sincerity and good will that is ever present makes this forum the BEST on the web!  I applaud all of you.

There are many more persons here more in need than my small issues.  A case in point; I was looking at a different forum yesterday and came across this thread,

http://modeltrainjournal.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10775

It is a very moving and tender story.

My little saga began last week.  I have been trying to finish this shed I've been working on and wasn't feeling a 100%, then last Thursday evening I noticed  I about 8:00 started with the shivers, and they just kept getting worse.  Finally about 10:30, went to the hospital ER.  They determined I was running a temp of 103, and had a couple of infections.  They kept me there for 5 hours on a IV of a "Super" antibiotic (Levoquin), and until the temp came down.  Sent me home and told to stay down for a couple of days.  So here it is Monday and finally feeling better,  (At least a 7 or 8).  So that be the story.  Do have to admit this 111 degree weather isn't helping any though.

In our own little circle I really hope and Pray that things work well for Cher this next week (Brutus)!!  And, also that the interview goes well on Friday for Jim!  (Remember just be confident, not overly desperate!)

There was another interesting thing I found out!  That Chief's brother also posts on this forum, (Hint: He's from Columbia, SC)

Thanks again for all the concern, its really appreciated!

Don

DonB.......glad you are recovering nicely and are feeling better.  103 is nothing to sneeze at in an adult, and you were smart to take that trip to the ER.  I am apt to try to wait things out, then wind up in an unnecesary worse condition.  The Northern faction suspects that the cause of your condition were the grits Chief stuffed into one of those RR cars that were making their way around the country.

Brutus.......prayers and good thoughts for Char.  Hope she isn't too disappointed about more tests and adjustments.

8n.........good luck with the MRI on the knee.

Dennis.......you're burning the candle at both ends!  You must be related by blood to the Chief.

NavyJack.....glad to hear you are feeling better, following the wife's lead.  But now your son too?  When it rains it pours.  Prayers, brother.

RaySP.......what a nice neighbor, "loaning" you enough electricity to keep the beer cold.

RT.........that was some good news you got on your a/c.  It could have been a lot worse!

Gotta hit the sack.  Later, gang.

Good morning all,

No rain yesterday, and IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Good day at work yesterday.  Soccer game for me tonight.  HS boys won an easy game 8-0 last night.  Good to see you back, Don B. Hope you continue to recover.  Dennis, I will look for that movie.  Prayers going out to all who need them.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL after the game and I can drive again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Jack I have a home warnity thingy so i pay a $60.00 service fee thats it. even if they had to replace the unit. I had them come one time and replace like 3 breakers (and mine are the type for allunimun wiring which are lot more expensive from what I understand as I have allunimun wiring in the house which eventually I'm going to change out mostly myself but have a electriciton come in and hook the main line to the box after he checks out what I have done.

I'm about to pay for a maintence agreement witht he company that came out so for $160 a year they will come out twice a year and clean and service my A/C and if theres any problems they will let me know and I can contact the home warnity and they will all ready have the dianosic to give them.

morning all glad to hear your bacjk on the mends N.J. Hope all is well with char jim and prayers are going out that its all works out fine for you.

Got my leave aproved for the 12 - 19th of October so thats good.

Hope all having a good day will talk to you all later hang in there all.
