Howdy from windy and wet Saint Louis.  Big storm last night and rain continued through lunch time.  Daughter thought the power went out, but it was just a burned out light bulb.  Today I read a couple comic books, put up some more drywall in the basement, and figured out what I have to do so a plumber can look at that sanitary stack and tell what can be done about clogs.

I suspect changing to 45 degree connections will do it.  I might have them start upstairs with new flanges and go down to new connections on the stack.  I'll have to remove some drywall that I already had in place and move some wiring and studs over out of the way until they are done.  We'll worry about that in a week or two, after my wife has gone back to work though.

Sorry I missed you tonight, RT.  I did talk with Doug, SJ and Charlie for a while, which is always nice.

Tardis is ready and need to get hauling!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Not sure when it will rain here again as we were supposed to get some moisture over the weekend and did not.  While picking up sticks, noticed we lost a small evergreen tree.  That happens.  One day green needles and the next day they are all gone.  Go figure.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning all,

I had a good weekend in Muskogee, OK, with the wife's extended family.  We brought back the wife's parents as well.

I am about to hit the road for San Antonio, TX.  I will be there for one week for a leadership conference.  I will check in when I can.

Regards,

Joe

Morning all.  Cooler but still not the normal temps for NC and Sept.  Got to take Finn by Vets to weigh him so I know what meds size to give him.  Then meet Frankie for lunch [yesterday was his birthday].  County Commissioners and then Mayors' Assoc.  Long day.  Did sleep late this AM.  All the "kids" did too [after Mom took them out earlier].  Coffee ready so off to the kitchen.  Have a great week.  Work hard so my SS will keep rolling in.  Later

Aloha all. Still savoring the Bears win, Laz. So unexpected. Nice if unfortunately brief chat with Brutus, SJ and Charlie last eve. This house-husband stuff isn't so bad... kids up, washed off with the hose, ready to be sent off. Of course missing 3 hours of commuting today isn't bad either. Wait, what do you mean I have to work that time instead?

Good Mornin' Ya'll From A Perfect Fall Day In New England,

The wife, dog, and I were returning from NH last night, and everything was perfect.  The skies were clear, the moon showing crisp and clear, the temps in the high 60s, and we decided an open sun roof was in order.  Traffic was light, the music playing in the background, and the dog did not have gas.  All was good.  Then we got on the interstate.  Shortly thereafter it seemed the entire population of the Northeast United States decided to take the same road at the same time as we did, driving South toward MA.  If they weren't coming from a day or weekend getaway in VT , NH, or Maine, they were returning from the NASCAR race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon NH.  There was more than one who couldn't hold a lane and were apparently operating under the influence.

The sounds of a B17 Flying Fortress, a B24 Liberator, a P51 Mustang, and a few other vintage WWII aircraft are filling the skies overhead this morning.  The (usually annual) Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour wraps up today out of the Beverly Municipal MA airport (AKA John Mountain Field), about 5 miles due West of me.  I have taken my children and grandchildren to see these aircraft up close and personal, sitting on the tarmac, have taken some tours of the insides of the aircraft, and have both photos and video of these historic aircraft on the ground and in the air.  Rides available starting at $425 for the bombers and about $2,000 for the P51.

SOME SOCCER PARENTS NEED A COMEUPPANCE.  Two games into our 7 year old granddaughter's first season, and already it is obvious some parents need to be punched out.   Wife keeps telling me to keep my mouth zipped....

Chief.....maybe you are allergic to your dogs or your home brew.   Hope you are recovering nicely.

Brutus.....your "sanitary stack?"  I never heard it called that before.    Re the news of your better half returning to work in a couple of weeks.....this year has been one of blessings for you and your family.    Prayers continue for Char.

SJ........don't hit any of the WWII aircraft in the skies when you come to pick me up in the Tardis.

8n......that certainly is good news on your wifey's continued recovery.  I have read somewhere that cleaning and dusting train layouts, including track cleaning, is good physical therapy for the back.  You should suggest it to her.

asch......welcome to the Pot!

Ray.....your neighbors' dogs are perfect.  You get to enjoy them for free!  It is possible to have dogs and a decent lawn if you know what you are doing.  The lawn will never be perfect but it can be very presentable.  I don't have any bare spots in mine that are down to the nub.  The dogs keep the Canadian Geese away, and those critters strip the lawn down to the nub in a day or two and leave a lot of.......fecal material.  Occasionally I have to put up a few feet of snow fencing here or there for a couple of weeks to keep them from wearing a favorite path down to the dirt.  Poo patrol, watering, fertilizing, weed killing, aeration, dethatching, and an occasional ph balance adjustment with limestone and you are good to go.  A couple of folks with whom we train (dogs) have taught their dogs to go to a spot and to go on command!

Bob.....who needs them!  The cream rises to the top, and I have discarded a few so called  "friends" where everything has to revolve around them.  I periodically have discussions about this with my wife and sometimes get into it with her when I point out we are always hosting things that include them with their family members including children and others (and they show up), but there is never any reciprocation.

Chuck......I think the daily "recommended" water intake for adults is now between 72 and 84 ounces a day.  I wonder if ice cubes in an adult beverage count toward that amount.

Joe.....except for the Marine Corps white glove cleaning regimens my wife insists upon,  I enjoy visits from relatives, especially the in-laws.  I've been blessed with keepers.

RT.....what ever became of that room you commandeered for your layout?

DougM.....you must be very pleased with da Bears.  I am.

JimSP..... "GrandDad is great!  He lets us eat chocolate cake!."

Brent.....you are actually working on your layout again?  Wasn't the plan to have it wrapped up Christmas 2009?  Your family expansion is going to derail things.

LAZ.....your upcoming fishing trip sounds like my idea of fun and relaxation, as long as the women don't go along.

I have to catch up on my reading.  ANJ....hope you are doing well.  JimmyT....prayers for your job search.  Lee, prayers things pick up hours-wise at work for you and take some of the heat off.

Gotta run.  Later gang.

Jack

Jack about 5 months ago it got traded for the den so now my layout can be 8' X 16' instead of 8' X 9' so I gained about 7 feet in legnth (Den is acually 14' X 16' but need to leave a walk way to get thru and some other items along that one wall) just need to do a few things then start on it. I'm ready but the budget isn't at this time but its getting there.

Lunch time for us here don't like it normally don't eat as its 11 am I not hungry as I normaly take a break at 8 and get breakfast (15 minutes) then about 12:30 we get another 15 so I snack then and off at 3:30.

hope all having a good day talk to you all later

Good evening everyone.  Been a long day....started at 0100.  Three big cases and it is about time to head to bed.  Lots of folks around here have the crud.  I am just trying to keep from getting it myself.

Bob, enjoy your time with your Mom.  You are right, that is their job to worry.  From what I have seen here, you have your head on straight and will be a son she can be proud of.

ASCH, you on the job?  A few of us were/are firefighters.  I left it many years ago.  Still am close with the guys I worked with.  Good to have you here.  This is quite a bunch of interesting characters and a lot of fun to boot (pardon the pun).

Hope that everyone has a great night.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s!  Going to be a hot time on the old soccer pitch toight.  Did routine stuff last night.  Just time consuming items.  I had toast and bacon on the dining car for breakfast as the biscuits all went moldy on us over night.  TBIL after the game, and some one else will definitely drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning form Central Jersey, Cool Morning, but clear.

It is too quiet at work this morning so far. A manager has me scheduled to be at 2 places at once tomorrow. I will pick the better one without the meeting and go there. I would rather look at a piece of equipment.

Everyone have a good day. I must look real busy, 3 guys just looked at me, slowed down as they were going to complain about the truck, and kept going when I gave them a dirty look, after the Chief nudged them away. I must be working here too long.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Hello all,

ASCH Welcome to the POT.

't was a busy weekend.

Went to Antique tractor pull. It's amazing how some of those old John Deer Put Put's will haul.

Mrs and I put up some more tomatoes, went to Church Picnic at local park and Dad's yard is finally ready to plant grass.

Top end kit came for grandson's four wheeler. Hope to get that together tonight. His birthday is Friday and now he's old enough to drag race like his Uncle. He wants to go on Saturday. We shall see.

Leaves are rapidly turning here. Two or three weeks early because it's so dry. they probably won't last long either. I saw on the news the other day we are under a drought watch.

No time for trains, hope to get some this weekend.

Best get back to work

Prayers for all who may need them

Brent.....you are actually working on your layout again?  Wasn't the plan to have it wrapped up Christmas 2009?  Your family expansion is going to derail things.

Yes, but I have one of those annoying tumors that just won't go away. Whistling You know the type that devise projects for us so we can't do what we really want to do. Plus I have seriously been considering lowering the middle and upper levels about 1 inch each, maybe 1.5 inches. I know the town hill side won't be a problem as there isn't much track on that side, but the mountain side could be a major project, especially since that is the side that is partially sceniced... The reason for this dilemma is one side of town hill is almost 15 inches of shear rock wall... we'll see. Working on the Domino Sugar plant is giving me time to think it through. Smile

Sunroom furniture comes this Saturday. The Q and I spent this past Saturday in Solomons, MD at Artsfest. Found a nice large picture of the old Drum Point Lighthouse that was painted by an artist from New Market, MD (about 8 miles from our house), also found 4 smaller picturs of MD lighthouses that will be framed and mounted around the larger print. The Q found a crab picture with the caption 'Size Matters' this will be framed and mounted above the door from the sunroom to the family room. IF you know The Q you know how fitting this picture is... Whistling. Also found a one of a kind serving bowl that has a crab on one edge of the lip, the crab's body makes a smaller bowl that you can put dip inside. Once the pictures are framed, hung, and the furniture is in, we'll see what else we need to complete the room. I think we're looking to buy some table lamps that are either lighthouses, or other beach themed items. I saw some nice stainless lighthouse lantern lamps that would look cool, but I'm not spending $185.00 for something I can't see in person... Also thinking of buying a lighthouse lantern that is mounted on a tripod to use as a floor lamp...

I'm thinking this will become the most popular room in the house...

Good Morning, Gents!

I've just about recovered from convention, lots of late nights and earlier mornings...no, I only had 1 beer throughout the procedings...

I was proud to carry the banner for our fire department, right behind our color guard...we notched a third place overall for that.  I was honored to be a part of that.  John & Dennis, if you remember the "parade wars" from the last century, you'll remember that South Amboy was the powerhouse...right next to ...US!!  Well, let's just say the balance of power has shifted to...Burlington City!!  South Amboy got a 2nd overall and Burlington won it all.  And the South Amboy people were VERY ...um...upset, arguing with the judges afterwards for 10 minutes (I was there, the SA's were really not happy).  Somethings never change...nice to see Burlington win, they looked very good.

Weather at Wildwood was great, a bit windy Thursday and Friday, but comforable....loved being back at the Jersey Shore.

I won a 1110 engine for $15 on the 'bay, needs a little work, but looks good.  Just need a few minutes to work on it between working on friends cars and the job search.

Finishing up my Firefighter I cert (again...), then my Firefighter II is next.  the process hasn't been bad, just the paperwork is crazy....after that, my Instructor I & II rating...and more paperwork.

ASCH...Palm Bay, right?  Near Melbourne and Sebastion, FLA...nice place..my Aunt lives in Vero....

for those ailing and in need...I've missed a week, was still, what 10 pages, even though the Chief was gone?

OK guys..I'll check back when I can...

Morning all.  Been lazy.  Slept late as a retired person should.  Then watched more of the sniper DVR's.  Now I will shave and shower.  Cooked red hots and eggs for breakfast.  Temps still 19 degrees above normal for NC.  Think I will "bang" around today.  May shoot some.  Got Town Board tonight.

Banks, my garden has about gone due to dry weather.  Few tomatoes and lots of hot peppers.  Turnips are up but have to water them due to no rain in a couple of weeks.

Rich, keep the fires out up Nawth.  As for posts, I think someone else posts more than me. [really haven't had time]

Did get a discouraging word last night at Mayors' Assoc meeting.  Hurricanes have a young guy from OSU playing on the team.  Horrible.

Later.

Lunch Time at Beautiful Edison, NJ, Beautiful Day,

Rich, Glad that you had a good time and you must have meant 1 beer at a time. I wonder what South Amboy got gigged on and what really teed them off. I know that they are such gentlemen. I will have to make a call and find out. You have to remember, South Amboy is 1.2 square miles and they only have 5 Fire Companies with 180  members, that is what the count was when I lived there. Talk about fire prevention and response time. Some of the other contenders were Long Branch and Wallington back in the 70's and early 80's.

Chief, your garden sounds like a carbon copy of ours. Not much rain either. We have tomatoes and peppers left.

Navyjack, I hope that you and your family are on the mend.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

John
