Hi Guys.  Nice chat tonight with Brutus, SJ and Doug.

I'm tired and sunburned...powerwashed the house today. I should have had a hat on.  Insurance Adjuster will be coming to my office tomorrow to look at my truck...then its off to the shop on Tuesday.

Hope to see you all again after the changeover...

Good night all.  Watched The Train on the Military Channel.  Off to bed.  Sleep tight.  Guess no posting tomorrow except The Blue.

Roy, sent you a reply [in fact two].

The basement vents are done and some old electric stuff from the builder is moved. Stubbed in a 2nd joist next to one that was cracked in the middle - builders drilled holes through knots? Got to use the BIG nail gun - Ar Ar Ar! Pizza and a margarita made up for a lot Smile  Nice chat with SJ, Doug and Charlie.  Missed RT today, but think he was doing OT.  Read some in Trains magazine - Amtrak really blew a bid on a contract and lost out to a multinational company.  They need to get their act together, or they will be pushed out by competition, I guess.

Tardis is ready and Mike and drive any time!

Sunny and 90 today.

Applied the first coat of waterproofing to the shower walls today.  Another coat tomorrow night, then they will be ready for tile.

The beater #219 MoPac Alco I won on e-bay got here Friday.  Started tearing it down and cleaning it up in preperation for my all powered 200 series A-B-A set.  One of the brush holders is damaged, so I am in the market for a new one.  This does not seem to be a common item - Lionel part # 600-141.

Got started cleaning up the parts chassis I got a while back for the project too.  Turns out this one has an early power truck.  That, and the remenants of a horn (corroded battery bracket) mean that it started life as a blue & yellow Sante Fe, or a New Haven, 1957 or 1958.  Somebody before me worked on this one.  The thrust washers were missing on the armature causing it to run roughly in reverse.  I'm planning on using this 3 position E unit.  However, it appears to have one finger that has lost tension.  Will have to tinker with it some more.  Got some good ideas by searching the forum.

About all for now.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s again.  Forum is not down yet so I thought I would get one last post in.  Did some light bulb replacements yesterday as they seem to all go out at once.  It will be interesting to see what changes are in store for us on the forum once the upgrades are done.  Sounds pretty major if the rollover takes two days.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime and I can drive (since I still have the keys).  I hope everyone has a good next two days.

Keep on training,

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Going up to a sunny 90, today.

Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of chores to do and some paperwork. I will be busy. Maybe a nap, later this afternoon. No time for trains today.

Good morning all, just groping my way around trying to find things on the new forum.  I took a train ride over last weekend with my #2 son from L.A. to San Diego and back.  The trip was an outing for retired UP/SP rails, their families and friends.  We had two private railroad cars.  One was an ex CP horse car used by the mounties which was converted to a party car.  The other was a dome diner built for the Denver Zephyr.  Fare included two meals, lunch going down and dinner coming back plus drinks included.  They made money on me cause I'm a teetotaler but I made up for it on the shrimp cocktails.  While in San Diego we went on board the aircraft carrier Midway which is a museum now and permanently docked at the Navy pier downtown San Diego.  A good time was had by all.  Tried out the Bullfrog Snot today for the first time.  Have to wait until it cures now.  Not sure how well it went until it sets up.  New neighbor next door has moved in now.  They have five collie dogs in a temporary kennel over there but the dogs don't make too much noise yet.  He plans to fence the yard so they can run and sell all but two of them.  I asked a buddy of his if he was a breeder.  He says no.  He had two adult dogs that mated before he was ready and now they have three young ones too.  Got a quote from Honda dealer this morning to replace a master brake cylinder..  They want $388.  Sounds high to me.  A retired mechanic friend of mine says you can get a generic replacement part for $88.  Need to shop around a little on this whole deal.  Talk to y'all later,

Ray

Ray,

You should be able to find a master cylinder cheaper than what the dealer wants.  Ebay and salvage yards are usually the cheapest after the parts store.  Dealers usually aren't cheap.  Been there, done that with a $300 new old stock timing belt tensioner from Ford.  What suprised me though was that the part was still available.

Jim,

Have you ever noticed a size difference between the figures on AF Handcars?  I took in an early 740, and one figure was 1/4" shorter than the other, but both appear to be original Gilbert.

Not much going on right now other than getting used to this new software.

Found the site, doesn't look bad at all, probably will see more "ads" before long.  I doubt that it is in the final format yet.

Ray, that trip sounded Fantastic!  Spent my weekend working on a "Maintenance Shed" in the back yard.  Got the platform and walls built and up.  Its a small shed 6x6x7, but will hopefully prove to be useful.  (Assuming it meets the aesthics requirements.)

Noticed that their is a "Email me replies to this post" at the bottom of the edit screen.  That could become a nusicense if it isn't turned off.

Also, that you can "Lock" the post.  Assuming that prevents replies to MY Post only, and not the entire thread.

RT - go to the top of the post and click the button to 'stop emailing me replies'

There should be a profile option to turn this off as the default... like the previous software.
