Hey Guys..

Fife...sorry I didn't call, It was a busy morning and Mom took me as my BIL freaked about the last trip to MD.  As it turns out, I got sick and lost my voice...still working on it, but gettin' better.  It wouldn't have been right to get you all sick....

Had WTC Steel honor guard Saturday morning.  Every available bridge had uniform emergency personnel stationed on it.  We were oustanding!  After the assignment we headed south for my test....and if there was more than 5 empty bridges from here to Delaware, I would be surprised.  NJ did an outstanding job!  The NJ/DE bridge plaza was full of fire apparatus and ems.Thumbs Up

Baltimore FD test was good, 65 questions and I think I hit at least 60 of 'em.  Won't know until 10/1.  Physical tests in November, January 2011 for the first Fire Class.Wink

Weather here has been hot, but for me, better than FL.  Have some errands to do tomorrow and an interview Thursday, possibly another on Friday.  Things are looking up.

That's all from Exit 8...up to bed with another load of tylenol and hopefully a good nights rest.

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Aloha all. Chief, here we have county historical societies. I donated a host of local train records to them. They were thrilled. I wonder if they have that in NC?

Well here we go. Trying the new forum software.

The "stop e-mail" button at the top is confusing. Why can't it simply say "e-mail replies to posts" is either "ON" or "OFF". Easy to understand. And then having to do it again in the reply editor is silly.

Warm here and humid but thay are predicting a nice Labor Day weekend.

Hope all are well.

Regards, Roy

Good evening everyone.  I have not had much time to look over the whole forum, but it does look pretty.  Has been a long day.  Had a case that turned into a long ordeal and then an emergency.  I was supposed to do an interview, but perhaps tomorrow.  We shall see.

Brent, glad you were able to tackle the rest of the job without injury.  Keep up the track record.  Perhaps you should get one of those signs stating "This site has been injury free for XX days".  Susie Q would get a kick for sure.

Chief, certainly make copies in case any type of legal issues arise, but then, give them to some archive such as library, or perhaps a local college.  One of the schools I attended had letters from Robert E. Lee that had been donated by family.  Made for very interesting reading.

Got a call while at work.  Daughter was sent home from school with an ear infection.  Poor kid had a fever and headache as well.  But, as kids go, they bounce back quickly and she wanted Chick-Fil-A on the way home from pediatrician.  Will still keep her home tomorrow.

Better get some sleep as it will be another early morning.Sleep
God Bless,
Dennis

Evening boys.  New look is okay I guess.  Took away my color chart.  It was an excellent rail day, as I finally met NS 4271/4270, that were tied down next to the car shop at Bayview Yard.  Absolutely beautiful in the black and white tuxedo livery.  Far better looking in person than in pictures.  Unfortunately, I had nothing to take pictures with.  Will try tomorrow morning.

Hi guys!  It was a little hot here in Saint Louis today and we are looking at some storms, but then cooler temps are predicted into the weekend.  AC is working fine after I defrosted it.  Vents are working well and no electrical problems Smile  I have 3 days off for the weekend and can't wait.  I really hope to get a lot of work done on the basement.

Also - a friend got an X-Box 360 as part of a package deal with a new television.  They didn't want it, so I got it for $100.  Now I need another television and maybe add a harddrive to it - this one doesn't come with one, but it's the same as my old one otherwise.

Tardis is ready and just watching for beacons!  We'll be along shortly!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

RT - go to the top of the post and click the button to 'stop emailing me replies'

There should be a profile option to turn this off as the default... like the previous software.

Brent unless you unclick the box at the end of the reply about

Email me replies to this post. each time it will do it or by clicking the top to stop you will need to do it each time I tried going in my preferences and changing it but it still does it. This is going to be the new pain I think  now weather it acually does send emails of the replies each time I'm not sure as have unclicked or hit don't send replies on the top each time I have posted a post.

Afternoon all.  Signed in and did not see a block that said "recognize me when I return" nor one "remember me"??????  BTW: Overlord, why is it I have to start a new Pot each month and some other threads [loaded with photos] keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny.  Whistling  Still got those stupid stars. Crying  Lots of good smiley faces. Neat new items like background color with different text color.Big Smile

Back from down east and doing estate things.  Emptied the house of all of the silverware [lots including trays and services].  Found written deeds dating back to 1840.  A typed deed dated the middle 1800's.  Did not know they had typewriters back then.  Found my Great GrandDaddy's end of the year farm inventory [for taxes I think] dated middle 1800's.  His spelling was worse than mine.  Had about 500+ acres in Edgecombe Co. which is now part of Wilson Co.  Wilson Co. did not exist until later and was made up of parts of several counties.  BTW: Spelled his name Daws and yet my Great Uncle Zeb [his Son] who raised my Mom [her Mom, his sister, died when Mom was 2 days old] spelled it Dawes.  500+ acres back then was a large holding for NC.  It is told that Uncle Zeb could do "numbers" but could not read.  His Dad, Wells Daws, did not beleive in schooling.  Uncle Zeb married Aunt Winne who was a school teacher.  She tought him to read, wright and spell.  Uncle Zeb became one of the most respected men in the County.  Interesting.  Question, what do I do with all those old deeds?  Donate them to Archives and History?

Later.

Drove up to Maine yesterday AM to help out friends and a family with a huge yard sale.  As I posted about a month ago, my wife and I lost a close friend suddenly and without warning.....and her family needs a lot of help sorting through things and clearing out the homestead.  It was sad to see a long and giving life reduced to a yard sale.

Later gang.

Jack.

Jack the part I hate the most is watching people paw over the stuff like its junk. This is why I donated my parents stuff that I didnt keep.

Found the site, doesn't look bad at all, probably will see more "ads" before long.  I doubt that it is in the final format yet.

Ray, that trip sounded Fantastic!  Spent my weekend working on a "Maintenance Shed" in the back yard.  Got the platform and walls built and up.  Its a small shed 6x6x7, but will hopefully prove to be useful.  (Assuming it meets the aesthics requirements.)

Noticed that their is a "Email me replies to this post" at the bottom of the edit screen.  That could become a nusicense if it isn't turned off.

Also, that you can "Lock" the post.  Assuming that prevents replies to MY Post only, and not the entire thread.

Ray,

You should be able to find a master cylinder cheaper than what the dealer wants.  Ebay and salvage yards are usually the cheapest after the parts store.  Dealers usually aren't cheap.  Been there, done that with a $300 new old stock timing belt tensioner from Ford.  What suprised me though was that the part was still available.

Jim,

Have you ever noticed a size difference between the figures on AF Handcars?  I took in an early 740, and one figure was 1/4" shorter than the other, but both appear to be original Gilbert.

Not much going on right now other than getting used to this new software.

Good morning all, just groping my way around trying to find things on the new forum.  I took a train ride over last weekend with my #2 son from L.A. to San Diego and back.  The trip was an outing for retired UP/SP rails, their families and friends.  We had two private railroad cars.  One was an ex CP horse car used by the mounties which was converted to a party car.  The other was a dome diner built for the Denver Zephyr.  Fare included two meals, lunch going down and dinner coming back plus drinks included.  They made money on me cause I'm a teetotaler but I made up for it on the shrimp cocktails.  While in San Diego we went on board the aircraft carrier Midway which is a museum now and permanently docked at the Navy pier downtown San Diego.  A good time was had by all.  Tried out the Bullfrog Snot today for the first time.  Have to wait until it cures now.  Not sure how well it went until it sets up.  New neighbor next door has moved in now.  They have five collie dogs in a temporary kennel over there but the dogs don't make too much noise yet.  He plans to fence the yard so they can run and sell all but two of them.  I asked a buddy of his if he was a breeder.  He says no.  He had two adult dogs that mated before he was ready and now they have three young ones too.  Got a quote from Honda dealer this morning to replace a master brake cylinder..  They want $388.  Sounds high to me.  A retired mechanic friend of mine says you can get a generic replacement part for $88.  Need to shop around a little on this whole deal.  Talk to y'all later,

Ray
