Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Going up to 82 today with cloudy skies. Looks like it might rain.

Today is a busy day. I have a few chores to do and a project to work on. Need to make some phone calls and do some paperwork. No time for trains today. Hope I get time for a nap this afternoon.

Dining car is here from "Points West". I will have  the usual Cheerios breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Aloha all. Back to it for our high schooler. The little guy starts Wed and the daughter goes back to college Sat. (Can't wait). Catching up a bit - Joe, it was the board-game version of Axis and Allies. I got a million of more complicated 'war games' - have been paring back 'millions' of miniatures too.  Hope the daughter had a good b-day, Brutus.

Good morning everyone.  Hope it is a good week ahead for each of you.  I am on call and currently, no scheduled cases, so I will head in a bit later.  Worked camera again last night as the guy who was supposed to do so had a brush canopy from a tractor fall on his foot.  Hate when that happens.

When we went to Disney a few months ago, we visited the Lego store.  Well, I found something I liked and so my son and I put it together.  Here is a shot of my daughter playing with the built locomotive.

Both kids get into the trains, so I will have to dig up some of them involved with the trains on the rails!  We really enjoy spending time with the kids where we all have fun.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning

Sun and 80s today.

Dennis, nice picture, they save memories.

2 trips to Lowes this morning, bought a board for a window sill, got it home didn't like it so back I went. Don't know when I'll actually do the work though and was shocked at how much one nice piece of wood cost. Enjoy your monday....S.J.

Good morning all,

Just taking a quick break from work to catch up on the posts.  Today's high is 101, but it looks like the heat will subside the next few days.  Supposed to rain tomorrow and be in the mid-80s for about three days.  I am looking forward to cooler days.

S.J. - I guess it has been a while since you built your benchwork.  When I purchased all my wood earlier this year I quickly learned how much 2 x 4 x 8s cost.  I went to Lowe's once yesterday: bought some paint and sandpaper for use on the layout.

Navyjack - You obviously made the right and noble decision to keep the promise to your mom and take care of your dad.  With a few exceptions (Chief stands out here), most Americans are too busy nowadays to take care of their parents; I think it's selfishness.  Years ago it was a no brainer: the kids always took care of their ageing parents.  I think European and Eastern cultures beat us out on this issue as they seem to revere their elders more than we do ours.  I'll get off my SoapBox now.  I'm glad you found some friends here and where you're at to ease your suffering.

CNW - Whoever was one of the Axis powers when we played Axis and Allies felt like a traitor if they won the game.

Back to work for now.

Lunch Time in Central Jersey, 78 and Raining

Dining car was here and the special was Newark Style Italian Hot Dogs. Was delicous. I have not had one in a while.

Demay, Joe, Good luckto your son with the Little League.

Navyjack, I hate when I hear about Vets getting the run around. The Red Tape stinks.

Mke C, Good luck with the PT Cruiser. If I remember, Rich help me out if I am wrong, there is a timing belt issue with them.

Chuck, Afternoon Nap, Must be NICE.

Dennis, when my son and daughter were younger, they could not get enough of the trains. My daughter sets up a loop around her Christmas Tree each year. My son still ,17 going on 18, is working on the new layout. Planning stage with temp tracks.

SJ, Add the price of the gas for 2 trips to Lowes.

Have a Great Day,

John

Good morning all, hot weather continues this week with triple digits predicted for the next few days.  People used to tell me that the "dry heat" here was not as bad as where it is humid.  Maybe so but anything over 100 is too hot for me either way.

Still coping with dental problems today.  One right front tooth came out of upper denture over the week end.  OK but I looked like Huck Finn for a while.  Went to see dentist this AM and he tried to put it back in with super glue but that only lasted about 5 minutes after I tried it again.  So back to dentist again and they sent it out to the lab.  Suppose to be back late today.  Meanwhile, I'm toothless in L.A.

Dennis, thanks for the picture of your lovely daughter.  You are lucky to have a girl.  I only had two boys who are helpful to us old folks now but they lack the feminine touch.  I do have a lovely daughter in law though who is quite helpful when we need it.  She is from China.

Navy Jack, sorry to hear about all the red tape for vets.  Sounds like good advise from Dennis.  Being a professional, I'm sure he knows more than we do about getting help.

New next door neighbors are moving in today.  They have been moving all their furniture etc all week end.  They have two little boys with the oldest about to start kindergarden.  It has been a long time since we heard the patter of little feet next door.   They seem like nice people.  Husband is a firefighter and wife is a school teacher.

Gave up on fixing my MTH proto 1 F3 myself and took it to the shop to be repaired.  If I have any more trouble with this old proto 1 stuff, I will try to find someone who can install a reverse unit or learn to do it myself and then rip out all the electronics and just run conventional on those models.  Probably have to sacrafice horns and bells if I did that but that is OK if I can keep them running.  Spending too much good train money on this stuff.  I would rather buy something new.

Have a good week y'all.

Ray

Mornin All,

Yardwork done for today, started early so I could get as much done as possible before the heat starts. Just think of the noisey lawnmower as a new style alarm clock, besides it's monday need all still working to contribute to SS. Whistling

Mike, Don't know which model PT you have but we had a big problem with the multi-function light switch malfunctioning, fog lamps in particular. They turned on or off whenever they felt like it, ended up pulling the foglamp fuse since Chrysler had no switches in stock and no production release yet. There were some on the net, assuming you were willing to pay $400 to 500 for one. Still haven't replaced it, been w/o it this long.

Joe, Since you are a "garage layout operator" this could be a good time of year in preparation for next year. Was in Lowes the other day and it looks like they are getting ready for some pretty serious closeouts on A/C. What about one of those portable units, make it comfortable enuff to run trains during summer heat & humidity. Fortunately ours stays pretty comfy, even though we face due east, until SWMBO pulls her car into the garage. Glad I opted for the insulated panels when we installed the new door.

How is it dealing with Little League parents & some coaches now, I was only able to tolerate the Oops for two seasons many years back and finally threw in the towel.

Time to jump in the shower, plan on dropping by Michael's since they have their Lemax stuff at 30% off. Kinda looking for some small accent pieces to fill in with for halloween.

BowBow  To Cal Fire and the air crews, had a nasty one break out saturday and get into a very rugged area. Between the choppers and fixed wing acft the hand crews should have it contained tonight, fingers crossed. Sheriffs chopper pulled two hikers off the mountain top, one at a time, second hiker didn't even have time to get inside just hang on to the skid. Either that or be a krispy kritter.

Later guys & gals.

Evenin' boys. Lonnnnnng weekend.  Hit the outlets at Hagerstown, and then I short hop over South Mtn to Thurmont, where my brand new, just delivered (don't get ahead of me) MTH Premier Western Maryland GP-35 Proto 2.0 was awaiting my arrival.  Had the family in wait in the car, as I ran in with an older MTH Proto 1 SD70 that lost its sound (runs, smokes, no sound).  Moments later, I emerge with my prize.  Didn't take time to test run it as family was waiting to go eat.

...you all know where this is going. Don't weSign - Dots

Finally got home after 7, put my new GP35 on the tracks fired her up with wifey and children in audience; sounds good, smokes good, forward ---> SHORT!

Disapprove

Called up Catoctin. No muss - no fuss -send it to us.  "We gotta nuther one and will ship it right to you."

I'm sure there will be a happy ending.

Good evening everyone.  Thanks for the kind thoughts about my daughter.  We are blessed to have her.  The gender was a known thing as after we had our son, on my wife's chart it said "A.M.A.", which in this case doesn't mean "Against Medical Advise"  Instead, it meant "Advanced Maternal Age"...boy she loved that one.  Anyway, as a woman gets older, the chance of birth defects goes up exponentially.  Since our son was a difficult pregnancy, we decided to adopt #2 and chose to get a daughter.  I think my wife always wanted to play dress up for real with her own little girl as she is showered in new clothes and probably has more shoes than Imelda Marcos.

Did have a good afternoon as got home early to take care of a special project for a friend who is trying to sell his lake house.  Then, took family to Waffle House for dinner.  The waitress actually had all her teeth!  Was a good meal, though I can feel my arteries clogging!  While we were finishing up, a young guy on a motor cycle tried to pop a wheelie...as they say, "How'd that work out for ya son?"  He was laying on the ground in the entrance to the parking lot.  He told me that his throttle got stuck.  Anyway, a few scratches to his legs and a big shot to his pride, but he was OK.  I could have called him a bunch of things for trying to pull a stunt, but I think the real lesson will come when he has to pay the repair bill.  I just showed concern and gave him a hand.

Hope everyone has a good night.
Dennis

NJ - heard they are trying to add more disabilities to the law, so maybe you will get your claim approved in the future.  Hang in there.

Dennis - your wife seemed very young, I can't believe that!  And that was after she and the kids had walked all over Disney World all day!  Your daughter looks like she is having a blast with that lego train Thumbs Up

Daughter had a good one, but still hasn't picked out a present from us.  Apparently, she and my wife are going to some expensive mall on the weekend - yippeee......  Wink

Leftover cupcakes for the trip tonight guys, so be sure to save some room.  Thingy is lit, let's go Smile

Good evening all,

The kids went to sleep at 8pm and I just finished some Bible study reading.  The 9y/o and 7y/o start school on Wednesday so we have been working them back into their school year routine.  The baby sleeps whenever he wants.  I love it when it is this quiet so early.

Doug - Thanks for the info on A/C units, I definitely need to consider that for next year.  I may wait a few more weeks since it is still so hot here and I would be surprised if they already dropped their prices.  I coached my son's t-ball team a few years ago and helped out this past year.  I have not had any problems with know-it-all parents, but I have experienced the extreme opposite.  I found way too many parents do not want to be involved at all.  They merely drop their kids off and leave as if it is some sort of daycare service.  However, the new team my son is on appears to be much different.  The coaches are smart and active, and all the parents were watching practice yesterday even though it was incredibly hot.  I think this will be a great baseball season for my son.

S.J./Brutus - I am ready for a cupcake and a root beer float to wash it down.  That is one awesome way to end an evening.

Good night,

Joe

Sunny and 80's today.  The forcast is saying it will be like this the rest of the week.  Looks like the summer heat might have broken.

Got my #205 MoPac Alco shell today.  Paint is a little worn, but the screw hole and apron are good.  Also won another #205 shell and a complete #205 on e-bay last night.  About all I need now is a 200 series B unit to have enough pieces parts for my all powered 200 series A-B-A Alco set.

All for now.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in low 80s.  New CTT made YMCA treadmill tolerable last night.  Lot of good tips in this issue.  Rare day at work as all case reports were done.  Hope to have more of those.  Played "Farkle" with family.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  PT Cruiser problem was an O2 sensor going off.  TBIL after soccer game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Going up to 84 today with a few clouds.

Today is a busy day. I have a few chores to do and then PT, this afternoon. Couldn't go yesterday, as I had a repairman come out and look at the A/C. Seems that the capacitor went bad. Working great again.

Dining car is here and it's the uaual for breakfast.

Good Morning everyone.  Brutus, thanks, I will share that with Kim.  She actually has me by a couple of years.  Both kids love Legos and play well together with them.  Mike, yeah, I could have said a number of things....but silence seemed better for the occasion.

Have a few things to handle this week, but do hope to get significant work done one the layout.  We have been making "rocks" for the wall, and soon I am hoping to finish the rough scenery.

Roy, we have a couple of medical students in rotation on our service.  Two of them are from the Houston area.  They were talking about how hot things are back there.  Georgia is hot enough for me.

Hope it is a good one for each of you.
God Bless,
Dennis

Aloha all. A balmy 70 degrees here whilst the next Transformers movie films a block away. Glad they have good weather. Gearing up to bring the daughter back to college this weekend. I think we can make it there (6 hrs), unload her and get back without having to stay overnight.  The bride demurs. I think she wins. Wink The new CTT looks great.

Greetings Ya'll From Rainy Mid 60s Taxachusetts,

Time to change the avatar photo.

Took the family up to Vermont for a "camping" vacation, including the dog Maximus.  Wife agreed to this trip as long as she had her creature comforts:  a bed, four walls with a roof, and her own shower.  That is what she got......a veritable 16' X 12' shack right out of the 1920s with an a/c unit hanging out the window in Shelburne, about 7 miles South of Burlington and a mile off Lake Champlain.  Weather was perfect......80-85 by day and about 60 at night, no rain, and one evening where the prospects of a Vermont Winter poked its head in with a low of 47.

Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Winery, Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory, Magic Hat Brewery, Colchester Drive-In movie theater, Church Street Pedestrian Mall (Burlington), Lake Champlain, VT Teddy Bear Company, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory (Stowe), Von Trapp Lodge (Stowe).  Seven year old granddaughter learned to swim in one of the two pools on the campsite (deep end, no floatation devices).  We met lots of folks from all over the US and the world on this vacation, either at the campsite or during our day trips.  And I didn't touch a PC or use my cell phone for 8 straight days!!!!  Didn't even know what day of the week it was......perfect escape.

Vermont is so beautiful and relatively unspoiled.  While we were there I couldn't help but think of the movie White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera Ellen, and Dean Jagger.  Meals (mostly) cooked over an open fire and a lot of day trips.  Camping is a lot of work and includes uninvited guests dropping in (skunk, racoon, and opossum......but no bear).

Took Maximus the dog with us everywhere and some places invited us inside when they saw his good manners.  It is quite entertaining to be approached by so many folks and their kids whose minds say "Doberman=Dangerous dog."  Then the reality sets in that a dog, most any dog, is very much a reflection of its solid breeding (temperament), upbringing, and training.  You guys would have gotten a kick out of seeing the tougher looking characters giving us a respectful wide birth while dozens of kids and their parents are petting the dog.

I have missed so much on the Forum that catching up would be next to impossible.  So......congratulations, good luck, and prayers for those who need them until I can do some back-reading!

Later, gang.

Jack.

Good morning all,

The thunderstorm rolled in hard and heavy early this morning and provided some much needed rain.  It has been raining on and off since.  I am loving the rain and the temp this morning as I drove in to work was only 77; now that's what I'm talking about.

I have a somewhat busy day planned at work which will hopefully make it go by quickly.  I want to get home early enough to play with the kids a little longer since today is their last day of summer vacation.  We had open house at their school last night.  We met their teachers and dropped off their school supplies.  Both of them are excited for school to start which I know they did not get from me.

RI Jack - Welcome back.  Glad you had a great time.  White Christmas is a must watch every Christmas for me.

CNW - Have a safe trip.

Regards,

Joe

Good Morning

Sun and low 80s today.

We loved Vermont, granny and I spent about ten days roaming the "bays" and Boston, great trip. It would be longer now as we can't get into Canada without a passport, no we don't have them, never needed them for Canada or Mexico till now. Have a great day...S.J.

Smilehello jack. welcome back.  i too had a doberman pinscher.  he was fearless and loyal and was the most gentle pet to my boys and family.  he did not trust anyone else though. he was a good protector, as then we lived in fontana, ca and had as neighbors, ku.klux clan, mexican gangs and drug dealers.  folks made a wide berth around my house. i guess the fact that i could be seen cleaning my guns on the porch did not hurt either. marines are called devil dogs.  during ww-2 the marines landed a few hundred dobies with cropped ears, at saipan.  they had been taught to hate the smell of japs.  they scarred the japs so bad that they called the dobies devil dogs, and that they came whenever the marines landed. this was told to me by a wise old gunnery sergeant, and they dont lie...navyjack
