Morning all, went to train meet yesterday and picked up a Railking trestle set for $20.  Don't know what I will do with it but the price was right.  The box said it was good for any kind of track.  Well, that might be but Fast Track does not fit on it.  The roadbed is too wide.  It will take tubular track if screwed down and the MTH version of fastrack by another name  If all else fails, I can use it on a carptet central layout at Christmas.

Weather warming up this week and headed for double digits by Friday.  The cooler weather was nice while it lasted.  Getting ready to go buy tickets with my son for Ringling Brothers circus for my grandson and us.

Have a good week,

Ray

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Partly Cloudy Taxachusetts,

High 80s today and way too humid.  Saturday's rainfall, the first significant amount in weeks, turned out to be a bust.  It mostly fell in two seoarate torrents, so quick most of it ran off and didn't have a chance to soak in.  Some nearby got 4-5 inches in under an hour and flash flooding/road closures/floating vehicles/rescues ensued.  Grass is still browning out.

Yesterday spent half the afternoon holding the one year old grandchild who nearly fidgeted a hole in my pants and alternatively stomped my private parts plumbing to death......like one long wrestling match.  Then I jumped into the kiddie pool with the 6 y/o for an hour while the adults ran inside to watch the World Cup final......so I was able to get in some untinterupted, one-on-one quality time with her.  The "pool Barbie and Ken" are not up my alley.....and granddaughter wanted me to play with Ken while she played with Barbie.  Ken quickly became an olympic diver, Johnny Weissmueller, and Mike Nelson, frogman......  Then I was the horse and the granddaughter the princess, wore my knees out and my neck was a little worse for wear.

8N.....  .Angel  continued prayers for your wife's upcoming back surgery.

Joe......glad to hear the little guy has a start on his first "suntan."  Big Smile

SubBob.....  Angel for your long time parish priest.  It is hard to lose a spiritual leader one has known for such a long time.

HudsonJohn......kudos and congas to your son, both in his grades and in his career interest.  You and your wife must be so proud to see it and to be a part of it.  Thumbs Up

Banks.....sorry to hear your daughter lost her 12 y/o chocolate lab.  To some these are just pets but to others loyal and faithful companions.  It is hard to see them decline and then leave us.  Good luck at the plumbers, and make sure they don't poke a hole in your brain.  Keep us "filled in."  Smile

SJ......  Happy B-Day to grandson #4.  Glad to hear the daughter and grandkids'  visit was full of good times.  Added plus, you got some GK company while running your trains.  GRANPA IS GREAT!!!!

Chuck......you sound like you were also having far too much fun with your daughter and the grandkids.  Especially the time spent in the trainroom.

Dennis......it seems like some of the camera crew keep missing their turn in the rotation.  No?

Charlie.....unwinding on the lake, sounds great.  I suppose you caught all those fish Chief's way, by throwing a stick of dynamite in the water and then scooping them up with a net.  Did you catch any bear?

DougM......isn't Hilton Head considered the South?  How did they let you in there?  Don't worry about being called the vacation Nazi.  Without a leader the rest of the family would not get out and about until after noon every day and have nothing to show for their vacation time than a bunch of sacktime and the inside of a hotel room and the restaurants.

Speaking of the Chief, where is he hiding?  Probably took DougM prisoner and is torturing him with grits in some dank dark undergoround prison.

OleTimer.....hope you kept your suit on at the pool party.  Whistling

RaySP, DougDG, and Don......the wife is headed back your way in a couple of weeks.

NavyJack.....others know more about this than I.  But you can experience the "check brakes" light even with no leaks and a full reservoir and normal operating pedal pressure and functionality.  I've had that problem when there was still some air in the lines, brakes not bled properly/completely. Love your avatar.

Brutus.....how on earth did you get that heavy stuff out of your basement all by yourself.  I though tyou had some in-kind bartering going on there to get some muscle to help you.

MikeC.....I am disappointed in you.  All of this soccer talk and your World Cup Final comments came down to a couple of words.  Guess you didn't like the two teams in the Final.  My SIL couldn't pull himself away from the tv except to hit the head.

RT......re the water main break, are you sure you weren't digging a hole for some of your wife's plantings and hit the pipe with a pick? Wink

Fife.....I didn't know the Santa Fe had a route through Maryland.  I do love that paint scheme.

Where are  LAZ and 88?

Later, gang.

Laz is playing engineer for the summer on a tourist RR near his home in PA.

I have been scanning the forum, but not posting much as I have, like always, been pretty busy. Hope to wrap up the sunroom/screened porch over the next two weekends and hopefully schedule a vacation to Macinac Island with The Q for mid-August. Rooms are getting scarce so I better talk it over with her soon. Smile

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. Went to the dental appointment.  Good news is no cavities.  Bad news is that favorite hygenist is leaving.  Good one is hard to find.  Most clean teeth by yanking on them as if it were an extraction.  Before it got hot today, I ran the standard gauge upstairs in the attic.  Very relaxing.  Reminded of what trains were about.  Balanced some check books and took care of some needed business.  RockIsland52, as far as the title game was concerned, I had no dog in that fight.  I sort of favored the Netherlands in that they were wearing the same color as the team I am on this year is.  The orange team committed a lot of fouls and had a lot of yellow cards.  I am not sure what their motive for doing so was.  Perhaps it was to slow the Spanish down.  It almost worked.  The Netherlands did have a couple of breakaways but failed to capitalize on them.  I think the better playing team won.  Although people like to see a more wide open game for the title, the pressure is so intense that everyone is afraid of making the one mistake that will cost them the game and so both sides played it conservatively.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL any time.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Newsflash:

Los Angeles police find huge load of marijuana in railroad tank car

07-12-2010 11:57 AM PDT |By NARDINE SAAD, Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) --

A late-night police pursuit ended with a drug bust and the discovery Monday of thousands of pounds of marijuana concealed in a railroad tank car.

Police Detective Gus Villanueva said numerous bundles of pot were removed from the gooey inside of the petroleum rail tanker by late morning and many more packages were still inside.

The retrieval operation in a rail yard southeast of downtown Los Angeles was halted at about 10 a.m. because something suspicious was found inside and a bomb squad was summoned, Villanueva said.

 Hello all,

Good news, back from the"plumbers". He said i was "boring" come back in five years. I do have a concern over colon cancer.  My grand pap survived Mustard Gas in WW1 Lost  3/4 of his stomach to ulcers in his late fifties and colon cancer was his demise when he was 82.

He taught me a lot about repairing,  rewinding motors and got me started helping him do house wiring.  Went to Vo-Tech and on the first day the teacher said 'Was your grand pap SAM?' I said yes He said "I was his helper boy when I started at the PRR."  Vo-Tech was the 2nd best decision I ever made. Choosing my Mrs was the best.

Think I'm gonna find some thing else to eat.

Prayers for all who may need them

DougD.-- That doesn't surprise me at all. A couple of years ago they found a tank car in western IA (UP) that was deemed "suspicious".  They finally got the top opened and found the decomposing remains of several illegals from south of the border, they had to take a torch to the side of the tank car to get a big enough opening to remove them.  I can't remember how many it was but it was a lot, very sad situation.  Not much surprises me any more.

Not much surprises me now ether, but here are three recent events that did:

1) Purchased furniture for pick up at store, to save the $150 delivery fee. Found out the store would not load the furniture in our truck, only set it on the loading dock, 4 feet in the air.

2) Cell phone ad said two phones for $49.  Turned out to be $71 with the add on fees.

3) A woman we know got her son back from her husband who had run off with him to Arkansas 1000 Mi away by proving he was not the father using DNA. She got pregnant while she was living with her husband.

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore, 78, 80% humidity and Thunderstorms predicted for tonight and the next 2 days.

Quiet day at work, very busy but quiet.

Banks, congrats on the good news. I know a few fellows that died from colon cancer.

You have to watch the "Good Deals". My wife taliked me into a Direct Buy Membership. We ordered an entertainment center. They said that you can pick it up. The problem was that it was not there. It was 60 miles away at a trucking company wharehouse. They delivered it for $100. They make it sound as if you can just pick it up at the location where you are joining, but that is not the case. That is the only thing that we bought there in the 2yrs since buying the membership. It is a very expensive entertainment center. She keeps telling me we bought it for when we remodel the house.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Sunshine, low 80's with humidity to match.  Evening showers.

Almost got the lawn mowed.  The rain didn't let me get the front yard done.

My 1986 'A New Beginning' boxcar got here today.  Nice clean one, not too many miles either.

I have not posted in a long  time on SPF.  I'll have to get pictures of my new (to me anyhow) items to share in the next week or two.

My dad's uncle used to run a store in either Petosky or Harbor Springs, Michigan - I don't remember which at the moment.  Probably back in the 30's and 40's.  The story I remember him telling is how he took all of the unsold fireworks out into the street on the 4th of July and lit them off.  He spoke of having duels with roman candles!  Amazingly, he had all of his fingers.

All for now.

Got dock rebuilt in one day. Shock  This wa inspite of the screw up by
Fatenal in my bolt order.  Set me back hours and cost me $$$$$$$$.  Banged Head  Will go into details later.

Good evening all,

It was a pretty pleasant day here in Enid, OK.  My wife and newest son are doing very well.  The in-laws have been here since his birth and they have been a great help handling the two older ones while the wife and I tend to the baby.  Tomorrow they will take the two older ones out of town for a few days which will allow the wife and I to focus on the baby and each other.  My father-in-law has taken the two older ones fishing as well, twice for my 7 y/o son.  They both enjoyed it, and according to the kids, they caught the largest carp ever.  No doubt the fishing tales will grow as they do.

I was able to watch the home run derby for a short while tonight.  I stopped watching once I saw David Ortiz was doing very well.  For a Yankee fan like me, I could never watch a Red Sox player do well.

Good night all,

Joe

Chief, is that the name of the store where you got the bolts?

Ran over my toe with the two-wheeler the other day and apparently I have now lost a toenail.  Well, I didn't lose it so much as I had to remove most of it.  Yuck.  Hate that.  Oh well, guess that's an OSHA violation, lol!

Nephew and son are getting along pretty well still - 13 days to go!

Peach and banilla.... Hmmm, I'll take Banilla with Rootbeer!  Beacons are on the screen and ready to go, so let's hit it boys!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Rain and storms have been predicted the last few days, but none our way.  Washed and waxed wife's van so that should bring rain.  Did a bunch of financial work yesterday to get caught up on that area.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all.  Jack, yeah, that happens with the media dept. as some you can count on, some show when it works for them.  I guess it is like most organizations in that 20% do the work, while 80% talk about it.  But, my filling in is not service for someone who didn't show up, it is for fellow believers and for God.  So long as we keep that perspective, it is fine.  With regard to your time with the kids...ain't it great?  You might be battered and bruised, but you wouldn't pass it up for the world.

Chief, welcome back.  I hate when such delays happen and you have no control over them.  It does give one pause to think ahead to the next project....or think about the demise of the one causing the delayWhistling

I am on call till Monday and have plenty of work to tackle.  Had some equipment go on the fritz and had to get in a piece to trial to see if we will be making some capital purchase.  If the emergencies allow, I will be joining two folks who are retiring from work to go out for a meal together.  We have all worked together at two locations for the past 16 years.  They came down to the current hospital and I soon followed.

I hope everyone has a blessed day.
God Bless,
Dennis

Smilehello guys, grandson caught about 30 fish sunday.  crappies, blue gills, cats, a carp and a northern.  he had a great time and he is becoming quite a fisherman.  he has at fourteen, 19 fish rigs, and many tackle boxes, which he buys at garage sales.  he is not, however interested in trains though.  little guy loves grampas trains though and has some of his own. still sticking with idea of buying wife a sonata.  cant afford a new one, but will try to swing one with low mileage.  it is much more car than the elantra. 82 today here, 90 tommorrow.  sorry chief about the yankee manners, learned mine from southern folks while in the service.  i call everyone sir and maam. do not try to be presumptous of others.  love southern manners.  wish my kids would learn some.  wes the on30 is cool, but tiny.  can see why you like the larger gauge trains.  wish some of you guys were closer, as the wife and i would entertain you guys in style and we could talk trains.  pat and banks...appreciate your endeavors, where would country be without guys like you.  thank you sirs....also jack from taxachussetts...thanks for your well thought out conversations.   navyjack

Morning all

Been trying to keep up with the posts and everything else.  Still trying to get caught up from being off last week.  This week is VBS.  I'm doing the scripture and lessons and doing Evening Prayers with the parents after they drop off the kids.

The house we're fixing up to sell is done on the inside.  I'm going to tear off the entire garage roof and framing and replace the rafters with trusses and re-roof.  After that, pressure wash and paint the outside.

Navyjack - Marcus is in my prayers

Chief - Your Mom too

May God bless

Morning all.  Cloudy and humid.  SUPPOSE to rain.  Got lunch meeting with candidate for new Planning Director [the old one is now Town Manager].  Garden to pick [Town Manager and wife have been picking and using garden when I am gone].

Fastenall is a store chain for fasteners and etc.  Ordered carriage bolts and he typed in the codes for hex bolts.  Went to pick them up Friday PM to do project Saturday AM.  Bolts all wrong.  Had to go to Lowes [no Home Depot in Henderson] and get all the bolts that size [actually two lenghts] and pay about $1 per bolt more. Banged Head Angry

Chat later.

Mornin' boys.  Roseyville kinda weather here.  Pretty good thunder-boomers lately, and stopped by the docks yesterday to stow my new solar battery charger panel below deck.  Think I've isolated my battery problem.

Stay dry.

Lunchtime in Central Jersey, 80's, Humid and Raining,

Joe, enjoy the time with your wife and baby.

Brutas, OSHA??? I can hear the questions: Why did you put your foot under the wheels? You were not aware of your surroundings! We are sending you for behind the handlebar training. Remember: OSHA, O S@#tT, Here Again.

S.J. Enjoy your walk. I could spend the day in Bass Pro.

Fife, Good luck with the battery problem on the boat. Been there done that.

Thoughts and Prayers to all in need.

John

Good Afternoon from Florida..

Made it back by 1330 yesterday, left at 1930 hrs Sunday, Jersey time...

Well, I have put in my resignation and by 1 August, I’ll be back with Mom & Dad.  Not the best situation, but it’s what it is.  The Princess wants to stay to graduate from this high school and then join me next June.  Not what I wanted to hear, but....

I’ll be deputized back into the fire dept., with a formal interview and voting in by 12 August, which will be the happiest news.  Looks like no job on the horizon, excepting temp jobs for now.

So the packing will commence and then I’ll be leaving by 31 July.  I’m not going to rush this next trip....3 times in 3 months solo driving is horrible...

Joe – congas on the new born.

Sorry I’ve missed some of the birthdays and such....so Happy Birthday!

Angel for all those ailing sick or in need...

I may be absent from time to time, but I’ll keep an eye on things....

Fife - I'm looking forward to that brew with you....

Check ya later!

Rich
