Howdy guys - more rain, but it has been drying most of the day. Nothing much going on today - work, zombie killing, and some reading in the new issue of trains mag. Nice chat with da giz tonight and ready for banilla Beacons on, Tardis batteries to power, turbines to speed - GO!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Jon...Glad to see you home safe and sound. I would suggest you visit your dentist for a cleaning ASAP.
Speaking of heavy rains, we had a big one last night. Power is still out to homes around us. Large trees came crashing down and the tornado sirens wailed. Tonight is calm.
This is for Laz...........

Well, I had the best of intentions today. Heavy rains.....again. Good thing the beavers are gone or I would be living in a lake.
Jon, the movie we are doing is about fatherhood. I agree in that it is so important to spend the time with your kids. While we don't ride motorcycles, we do have a number of things we love to do together. I really enjoy hearing his opinions and thoughts on everyday things.
With regard to Sweet Tea, not all are created equal. We certainly have our favorites to go to, but most are either too sweet, or have a bitter taste.
Brent, keeping you and Susie-Q in prayer for the little one. Certainly and endevor of love!
God Bless,Dennis

Just a quick drive bye note.
Home late this afternoon from a six day ride with my riding partner, son Ryan. We left last Sat. AM and headed south on some very technical roads in MO & AR, we had great weather except for 5 minutes. Lots to share about the south and most of it excellent EXCEPT for two events that I noticed: 1. I didn't realize turn signals were optional and, 2. I ordered sweet tea yesterday (first & last time ever), just remove all my teeth right now, good grief.
For you Dad's out there---take a few days or a week every year and spend it with one of your kids ... just the two of you. This was our fifth year of a tour and me doing a journal every day and then giving it to him (and he's 31) to read after we say goodbyes, it's a winner for us. We did a short trip this year, 1583 miles and every mile was a keeper, even the 5 minutes that we got sorta wet
Now, about sweet tea
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
RockIsland52 Ray/DougDG/Don.....wife called last night, informed me the restaurant her company took everyone out to dinner at was in Newport Beach, the Rusty Pelican I think.

I haven't been to Newport Beach in years but it was nice down there. I used to buy fresh fish from the "Dory Fishermen" at Newport who used to pull their boats right up on the beach in the morning, hang up a scale and open a fish market. I imagine that is gone now since seafood is so expensive these days and the water quality if probably not what it used to be either.
Don lives closer to Newport than me but how much closer, I don't know.

Charlie: Info received. Thanks
Good Morning,
In sympathy for the Mercury demise, the wife's 2000 Sable decided to break a front spring yesterday. Anyone in the area want a free suspension and vibration test contact me and I will give them directions to this road. Anyway, Daisy and I drove GammaDiesel to work with a stop at Tim Hortons for a coffee and dounut on the return trip.
Charlie: E-mail me with info in regards to your sisters practice. I have a neighbor who is in need of a dentist in SH.
Prayers for those in need and the family of another hero Anthony DiLisio USMC (5/30/2010).
Good Morning
kinda cloudy, showers here and there.
Ah but its warm just feel it. ah.
Hey guys fire up the candles I got hotdogs and marshmellows, my treat.
We did some shopping this AM. I don't feel any new damage to my repaired teeth so I guess the meds are working. I sure do sleep good now.lol Have a great day...S.J.
Quick stop by before getting busy. Just me and the dog watching the replay of the Tigers/Cleveland game and the 'blown call'. The pitcher is a real stand up guy and he was impressed that the ump apologized afterward.
Regarding the candles on that cake, we had better have the fire department standing by. That much open flame can be a bad thing. Hope the big guy has it in him to douse the flames.
God Bless,
Dennis
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Overcast Taxachusetts,
Rain in the forecast, but not enough to catch up. I caved in this past weekend and started watering the lawn. Otherwise, the grass would go into "dormant" mode and start to brown out. Why is that a problem? Because the wife eagerly volunteered to host the granddaughters' joint birthday party at the end of the month and would have me out there painting the grass green for the party. Kid you not.
Condolences to the California boys. The Boston Celtics took it to the Lakers out in LA last night. These old guys might have one more championship left in the tank.
Rich.....you must have been getting quite the fuel mileage on your road trip North! Driving 15-17 hours by onesself is a lot. But it sounds like you really packed in a lot of good stuff during your visit with family, friends, and the FD fun. Good for you.
Brent.....good luck on today's launch of rehab on your arm. I can hear Susan's whip cracking as I type. Better you than me. She only has her honey do list your best interests at heart. If it were me and my aging body, breakfast this morning would include a couple of Advil. Chuck took pictures and posted them......will you?
Laz.....I love the Cape Kennedy type countdown until you are released from your incarceration teaching duties. Sales of Ole Mils should spike the week after next. Must make a note to buy some stock.
DougM.....how is it going hobnobbing with the Obamas? What did I tell you about those pesky Flyers? Blackhawks let them off the hook last night.
MikeC.....don't let them suck you in, again. And don't lose your cool, your professionalism. Let your new boss run the interference and set the table. You cannot be in two places at once. If the problems were not discussed a couple of weeks back and any key people on the other side of the table could not be bothered to attend the meeting, let them explain the "surprise," let them explain why they were too busy to attend, and let them explain how THEY are going to fix it. Your ship has sailed and is not returning to the dock.
Gotta run.
Jack

RockIsland52 dougdagrump Brutus A little bird told me that Friday is a big day for someone on the coffee pot! Apparently, Chief will be having a birthday! Hope he's back to share it with us, but if he's at the lake, then I hope he gets his fill of grits and cake Well if they put the appropriate number of birthday candles on the cake they'll have to order a "quarter acre instead of the normal quarter sheet". As we know, he would have no problem blowing out all of those candles one way or another because: (A) he has chronic and uncontrolled flatulence from eating grits, and (B) he suffers from an occupational hazzard syndrome and is full of hot air. Just an FYI,guys: I have alerted the North Carolina State Forestry Dept and the Community Affairs Div., for an uncontrolled burn. I believe the Rosyville FD is on stand-by and Raleigh as next due in. I suggested that they call RDU for the foam trucks, as it may get out of control....

Aloha everyone from a sunny and cool Crystal Lake - storms last night cooled everything off. Though it looks like a spectacular day. I've found a whole bunch of model railroading and real railroading e-books for the 'nook' e-reader I picked up last week - what fun! Good luck in PT, Brent. Remember to obey the pretty lady - see how Chuck does it. Sounds like you had a great time, Rich - that's about as long as it takes me to get to NYC from Chicago though I spend more on gas.

Good Thursday Morning
Chance of Thunderstorms today, 91F, 92% humidity. N
No real action on the train table...been sorting things out at work and home. Though I did
win more Atlas track on GoMotorBids. $11 total, 5 used curves.
Well, the weekend up north was wonderful, I had a lot of things on my mind, and my family helped me sort them out. Mom & Dad weren’t there as they were in the NC house for the weekend. Gotta love my family...they are awesome!
Took 15 hours going up and 17 going back, $140 round trip for gas total. Not bad for a guy my age and solo at that. Had a great time with the family and my friends. And I did surprise the gang at HFD. The fire call was the cherry on top. I went through a few of the towns here and the American flags were all on the street or on telephone poles. This is hometown New Jersey. The only way it could have been better was to stay.
Fife - that was horrible..I'm hanging my head in shame...ok maybe not...>snicker, snicker<
Next trip will be in July, I’ll be up for a week during the 4th. And it will be a long wait, 30 days long.
Fifepup, & SJ.
Check in later guys! Thanks for being here!!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny and clear 68 degrees. Going up to 86 today with a chance of more rain later. Had a brief, but noisy thunderstorm lasy night. It rained hard for about 20 minutes.
Today is a busy day. Grocery shopping. Wife will be gone most of the day. Then, we put it all away. That's a fun job. I will be working on a few projects while she's gone. No train time today.
Dining car has rolled in from "Points West" and we will be having Cheerios for breakfast. Due for an omlet.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
Good morning all,
It may be rainy in SE Indiana. Games were cancelled due to storms last night. May scrimmage with "my" soccer girls tonight if they have a practice (if fields not too wet....whatever). Good day at work until late day request for some very unexpected inquiries coming from former position. Some people did not get the memo that I have moved on, that I no longer have the time (or the willingness) to put up with their last minute shenanigans, and that they no longer pay me. What is even odder is that a meeting was held a couple of weeks ago, and everything was "fine". Now a person who could not be bothered to attend the meeting now has these requests, and they want them before my trip next week. Ain't gonna happen. End of rant. Spent the night getting reservations and other arrangements made for the trip. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East". TBIL anytime and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
8ntruckCharlie - If I remember correctly, you have a place in northern lower pinnesula and live somewhere in the greater Detroit area. Our travels in Michigan this weekend were on I-94 from the south west and north on I-69 to Lansing. I'm guessing that we probably didn't pass each other.
Just an hour apart.

dwiemer RT, I would welcome the help by Brent, but I am not sure my insurance will cover such a high risk. Besides, we are looking at either white marble floors or mexican pavers and white trim.... doesn't go well with blood red. Just kidding Brent. I hope your future exploits are less traumatic.
I don't bleed much. In all seriousness, my problems seem to stem from not having a work partner and when that happens it leads to bad happenings.
8ntruck Thanks for the thoughts guys. Dad passed in Dec. 2008. He has been waiting very patiently on one shelf or another until we matched schedules and set a date for his inturnment. It was quite a pleasant gathering, really. All for now.

Bill,
Maybe that is a good way to handle it. The immediate feelings of loss and mourning have had some time to lessen, giving way to a true celebration of a loved ones life & legacy during the inturnment.
Good evening everyone. Been a rather odd day. Was asked to get some information on home schooling by the bride as one of the program reps were in town. Got that and then headed in to cover some call. Few cases and just as I was leaving the hospital, the sky opened up with plenty of wind and the wet stuff. I had planned on hitting the tractor and taking care of the jungle, but that will have to wait.
I was real tempted to take on a few auctions for some nice brass engines, but they were either Pennsy or required 0-72 or larger and that is too much for my pike. Oh well, bride will be happy and let me live another day.

I have enjoyed the latest CTT and OGR mags. I have my train fix for the month. Just wish we had a issue of each every month.Hope each of you have a great night.Dennis
Sunny high 80's and thunderboomers here today. Didn't have to water the veggie patch.

8NT - sorry, I must have missed that - prayers for your family.
Prayers for us all and our friends and loved ones.
Had the first watermelon of the year so it must be Summer now! Still have room for some banilla, so let's go guys - Tardis is ready, freddy!
Yes John kinda strange, we have been to six so far this year.
Way more than the norm.
Good Evening, hot and sticky at the Jersey Shore,
Jack you are right about Funerals and Wakes. Your presence is enough. I have been going to too many lately. since January it is averaging 2 a Month.

dougdagrump RockIsland52 DougDG......doesn't CA have some sort of restrictions on the use of personal "charcoal" grills for cooking and outdoor fire pits? Jack. Jack, I am going to beg off on answering that, if I completely express my feelings about our state politicians & state/regional/county regulatory agencies the coffee pot would probably be put on no less than double but more likely triple super secret probation.

DougDG: did you know about Time Magazine's list of The 50 Worst Cars of All Time which included the 1980 Corvette "California."

The California emissions braintrust banned the venerable 350c.i. engine for import into the Golden State, insisting on a 305c.i. replacement engine that put out an anemic 180 horsepower. And they weren't through, insisting on a 3 speed automatic transmission to make the complete nuetering of the car complete.
