Chuck, Happy Birthday Sir!  May your day be wonderful.
It is a absolutely beautiful morning here.  I am on call and supposed to head into work a bit later.  Do have a county commissioner's meeting I am supposed to go to for some movie issues.  The city has been most helpful in their support for us.  Of course the visitors do bring in a bit of much needed spending to our area.  We get people from all over the world to visit the church and places that scenes took place in the movies.

Kids and wife are on the mend.  The funk has really gone through our family over the last week.  It will be great to get it out of the house in time for the next thing the kids bring home from school.

Hope everyone has a blessed day

Dennis

Aloha and happy birthday to Chuck - glad you're with us! Mike C, thought of you while watching Desperate Housewives with the bride last night (her choice).  Cool and sunny today. Church leadership board meeting tonight. Hope the family receives their new phones today too. Doesn't look too bad today so I should get much done here. Glad you seem finally on the mend, Dennis. What a beautiful garden, Chief

Also, if you can get it rust proofed, go for it.  I just found a winter gift on the lower part of the passenger side door on the Sunfire, so I got my work cut out for me.

No, No, No, No, NO! Most manufacturers have corrosion protection now that is void if you rust-proof the car!

Mornin' fellas. Just stopping in to say hello and Happy B-Day Chuck, before heading into a meeting.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Seasonably Cold Taxachusetts,

Sounds like everyone had a beautiful Mothers' Day.  Yesterday started out in the high 30s yet sunny here,  no precip.  Son-in-law made brunch reservations for 10 of us down in Cambridge MA at a place called Fire and Ice, had to take 2 vehicles.  Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett with Indian guides couldn't have found their way around down in the Boston Metro area, even if their horses had a NAV package installed in their saddles.  Roads are set up like a plate of spaghetti, change names, one way streets always going the wrong way, traffic circles, and a ton of people who like me can't tell you where they have been......and they were just there.  Even horses could not find their way back to the barn.  Brunch was all-you-could-eat buffet.......you pick your stuff/fixins and a bunch of chefs make it on a large circular grill with the hungry throng watching and waiting at the encirculing countertop.  I started out with doing breakfast, followed by stir fry, then a burger, and closing out with a fruit platter with chocolate fondue.  Yes, I look pregnant, about 7 months.  BURP.

JimT......sorry to hear about your car break-in.  You sound like me in many respects regarding cars.  I buy pre-owned low mileage stuff.  I am anal when it comes to the condition of my cars.  It disappoints me when others carelessly bang the sides of my cars with their doors and shopping carts, park using the Helen Heller method, or worse.  When some knuckleheads deliberately start breaking in to see what they can steal, I've had it......I don't leave so much as a pen or a gum wrapper laying around visible inside and hope for the best.  I understand that when something like this happens to you that you have to pony up a deductible; and the auto insurer covers the rest, gladly recouping their outlay with an eventual jack in the insurance premiums.   Never have had a problem with anyone disturbing my car when it is parked when my Dobermans are inside and I am picking up a few things inside a gas station mini-mart and the like.  Evil

8N.....Angel prayers begin for your wife's scheduled July back surgery.  From the sounds of things, she must be at her wit's end.  Dennis might have an observation about this, but in my experience there is nothing better than a motivated patient going in.  My brother-in-law had his done after suffering for two decades.......a late October surgery followed by an April 1 tee time.  His only complaint in retrospect was his fear and a two decade procrastination, clear sailing and straight drives after that.  Wink

Chief.....hope your Mom is doing ok.  Prayers continue. Thanks for the main garden pics.  It looks way too dry for my tomatoes!   You need to either crank up the drip irrigation or employ drop irrigation.  Just how long do you think I can wait for my free 'maters?  It looks like both Burg and Lucy have a great life.  Just how do you manage poo patrol with all of that acreage to cover?  42 piles a week is a lot of accumulation.  Laugh

Brutus.....I admire your team technique with the kids' projects.  There is no sense jumping in when the Char has things well in hand.  Safer too.  Wink

Spanky......hope you are not getting too discouraged with the knee rehab bump in the road.  The trainer we had for sports injuries was the retired head trainer for the Cleveland Browns.  Alternating ice and heat and stretching was his attack approach on hammy injuries, but these were not as com[lex as a reconstruction like yours.  This rehab one is going to take some time.  I'd be interested in your continued updates and the approach your medical team takes.

Brent.....you would be pleased to know that your recent faux pas has greatly benefitted others amongst us.  I told my wife about the one where you walked in to your train shop and the owner took one look at you all bandaged up and remarked casually. "So, Brent, I see you have been working (around the house) again."  It got a big smile out of her, followed by a sarcastic comment from her to the effect that your pickle sounded exactly like what I would get myself into.  Hang in there, buddy.  All of the light-hearted teasing is meant to keep your spirits up and you pointed in the right direction.  Prayers continue for your continued successful recovery.

Dennis......are you still utw?  Under the weather?  Hope you are improving.

Bet Commodore Fife got in a sail this weekend.  The wife and I were coming home yesterday by way of the Salem/Beverly bridge with a great view of the harbors and marinas and saw all manner of boaters out there braving the temperatures and stout breezes.  Enjoyed one of those COPS shows last night with a segment on police canine units.  It never ceases to amaze me how the bad guys think they can outrun and outwit a dog whose primary joy in life, after his relationship with his handler, is running these guys down and leaving them with a souvenir of their hubris and stupidity.  CHOMP CHOMP!

SJ......even in your retirement I can picture you on the New York Tomes' best sellers list:  "101 Ways To Loaf."  Your sense of humor never fails to crack me up.  Smile,Wink, & GrinT

DougDG, Don, and Ray.......my wife has another CA trip scheduled for June.  I'll let you know exactly when so you can lay low for a few days.

Laz......six inches of snow?  Is that some kind of late season record for you?  One day you are golfing, fishing, and mowing with your tractor and the next you are breaking out the snow removal equipment.  I'd use the sun as my primary snow removal tool with a storm that late.  Mid 30s just West and North of me this morning.  Those up my way that already bought and planted their annual flowers, thinking they would get a head start, are now fighting to salvage the plantings.  My next door neighbors are doing just that.

Charlie.....thanks for the pictures of the bear.  I can't imagine having kids and dogs and having to worry about bears on my property.  Our dangers come from territorial or mating deer, coyotes, an occasional fisher cat, and crackheads looking to support their habits.

JimSP.....if I have not said it before, thanks for your SPF efforts, getting us all refocused each week.  I see that the number of new contributors is growing.  I hope they stay in the loop with their achievements.  Good stuff.  Hope the little ones continue to thrive.  You are one busy guy!

DougM.....my neice was out my way from Chicago for a "training conference" this past week.  She truly enjoyed the small city environment down in Boston where one can enjoy much of the night life on foot.  She somehow scored tickets to the Yankee/Red Sox games and Saturday went to one with my SIL, daughter, and son while Grammy and Grampy held down the children front, including an overnight with the little ones.  As busted up as the Yankees are, they just keep winning.  Sad  This weekend was a bad one for the Boston sports teams.  Bruins could not put Philly away.  Cleveland Cavs handed the Celtics their lunch at home Saturday and took back home court advantage before losing yesterday.....the Boston big 3 have become the silent 3.  The Yankees took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox.  Boston fans are in a funk.

Rich......are the Harley woes finally behind you?  It sounds like you are finally enjoying the ride after a long period of frustrations and gremlins.  My nephew is hoping he can make Sturgis again this year.  He and three buddies trailer their bikes the 930 miles out there and back each year, spending a week on the road enjoying the beauty which is SD, Wyoming, et al.  They are not as tough as Jon who rides there and back.

Later, gang.

Chuck,

           Happy birthday.

Brent,

The Sunfire owner's manual mentions that corrosion protection, but judging from what I've seen on this and other GM products around the same age, I think it doesn't work.  Rust everywhere.  The underbody is crusty, and the area underneath the filler door is starting.  Of course, the majority of this  can be avoided if the vehicle is garage kept and not driven during the winter months as well.

The connections on the dock and receiver were able to be heated and straightened, so that saves me some money now.  Going out to try and find some POR 15 this morning.  I might try installing the shorter legs on the layout this afternoon.

BLUEBERRY HILL  Happy B-Day  I started my post three hours ago and after several interruptions didn't finish until now, not realizing that it was your birthday.  Wonder what manner of "special gifts" your favorite PT staff have in store for you.  Post pics, even if they are not fit for a family environment such as this.  Bob and Selector need the aggravation.  Big Smile

NAVYJACK .... yea one end of the layout will be logging oriented .... transitioning a middle of the road 20's to 40's theme in the middle ... and a small train yard effect at the other .

CHIEF .....  beautiful garden .... and the guard dogs guarding it is a great idea ... Big Smile  LOL  When I was a little kid I used to sneak in my neighbor's strawberry patch and eat his huge delicious strawberries .... I always thought I got away with it .... years later he informed me he knew all the time ..... my footprints were there .... Clown  leading from our property to his patch and in it and in the soft ground .... he laughed .... I was embarrased .... what a sweet old guy he was .... he never said anything ..... my parents would have burned my rear ... Whistling  I kind of returned the favor many years later ..... my neighbor kids used to sneak here and swipe my peaches off my peach tree ..... I had alot of fun hiding and watching them .... they never knew . They were hilarious how they'd run and sneak and grab a t-sirt full and full blast run back across the lane looking all around with big eyes and that scared to death look ... Laugh  Kids never change .... God love em .... 2 of them became preachers .... darn good bunch of kids .... there were  10 children in that family ... all grown now .... I figured they needed those peaches ..... snacks were probably on short supply with them .

Happy Birthday Chuck Happy B-Day

Chief, great looking garden with lots of room.  How about some okra?  Maybe it's the wrong time to plant.  We used to grow a lot of lima beans running up and down strings between two wires but with the frozen baby butter beans being so good, its hardly worth all that effort nowadays.  Tomatoes are the best bet and they taste great when the store price is 2-3 $ a pound.  Love those yellow squash too.

We had a nice get together yesterday for Mothers day with wife and daughter-in-law.  Saw a movie on DVD about Amelia Earhart last night.  Not too good or to put it another way, I guess this story has been told too many times.  Hilary Swank looked a little like Amelia and did a fair job.  Richard Gere's talent was wasted on this one playing George Putnam.  From all accounts I have heard over the years, it sounds like Amelia put herself in jepordy by not getting trained better on radio etc.  Pancho Barnes, another female flier from the same era and featured in the movie The Right Stuff was on a TV special last week.  She didn't think too much of Amelia.  Called her an empty headed little blond.  One of Pancho's friends related that Pancho thought Amelia was all feathers.

We were treated to seeing the ATSF #3751 run again this week end for National Train Day.  Train ran to and from L.A. to San Bernardino.  Lots of pictures taken by local photographers showing up on some of the railfan websites.

Have a good week all,

Ray

The anti-corrosion typically only applied to the body panels, not under carriage, suspension, etc. However, most rust-proofing jobs require that additional holes be drilled to access behind body panels, specifically door panels and drilling these holes is what voids the anti-corrosion warranty. Also, rust proofing, unless it has changed since I was a lot hand 14 years ago, is just a form of tar and this does nothing than make it more difficult to work on the car.

IMHO, rust-proofing = waste of money that you could save and use for repairs. Most people don't purchase a vehicle intending to keep it for 20+ years. Wink

Probe - You need to invest in a TRUNK MONKEY.

RockIsland - Too gusty this past weekend.  Can't do much with 25-30 steady winds.  Maybe Thursday after work.

dbaker - I'll gladly stroll to the principle's office anytime for you.

Chief - nice veggies.

Guilty as charged as far as the PGT is concerned.Smile,Wink, & Grin  As far as the Sunfire goes, the sooner it is gone the better.  I am just trying to keep up with it so that I get some trade in value when that time comes. I'll never buy another vehicle marked as is.  Still finding evidence of collision damage/repair.

Fife,

Trunk Monkey is good, but I'd rather have something like a .38.Smile  I am wondering if I should starting parking where the customers park, instead of parking in the back of the lot with the other employees.

I couldn't find POR 15, so I got Permatex Rust Treatment.  It seems to be doing a good job.  I have been looking for cars for the Silver Flash just to see what is out there.  They don't seem to be as pricey as the 900-903 Northern Pacific cars, which is good.

Happy B-Day Chuck

Evening all not a lot going on here.

After my last adventures with buys ( which I won't get into tonight) I'm starting to think any buys of trains will be from dealers or nib items. I'm also thinking any buys now will be TMCC/legacy no more conventional in fact next purchase will probably be Legacy system ( I have TMCC but guess need to upgrade to Legacy)

I've had as a whole great deals on the internet just the last one and one about 3 buys ago was bad deals. Out of over 1100 purchases and sales can't really complain.

Hope all had a good weekend worked sat but sunday was good

Talk to you all later

Raining and 50's today.  Really weird in that the wind has been blowing mostly from the east today, but we are currently being run over by a squall line that approached from the west!

Navyjack - what color is your MKT truck?  Red or Yellow?  I think the proper color for the 30's was yellow.  I'll have to confirm that when I run across the proper book again.  MKT had a major office and shop presence here in Sedalia, so that line is of interest to me.  My current house is about a block away from the old MKT right of way - now a hiking and bicycling trail.

Mentioned to my wife that I'll have to keep up with the kids and mount some neon lights under the Cobalt.  She just gave me 'the look' then told me I should buy more trains instead! Big Smile

Chuck - happy birthday.

Thanks for your thoughts & prayers for my wife.  She is frustrated with the limitations she is under, and not looking forward to the recovery time, but knows that this is the right thing to do.  She has lost about 10 pounds and is going to water exercise twice a week to get in a little bit better shape for the surgery.

97 Probe  - I used to own a '82 Pontiac J wagon and my youngest is currently driving a Cavilier. The Cobalt is improved, but I can see influences from it's ancestors.  I will say that the SS suspension and brake package are a quantum level above the standard J platform stuff - even the F41 package I had on the wagon.  Fit & finish are a whole lot better too - but that is true when you compare almost any related vehicles that were built 5 to 10 years apart.

All for now.

8NT - same here, though the big storm is on it's way still, should be here in a few hours.  Expected to blow through pretty fast.  Hope we don't get hail - you either!

Monday = back to work and I'm tired.  Will sleep well tonight.  Char's hemoglobin was up to 12.3 today, but new cells are falling off a little and expecting a little valley here in a week or two.  She will get another shot and also should be getting more immunoglobins on Monday.

Prayers for us all and our friends and families.

Tardis is running a little late - need to load all these groceries!  I see beacons, so we'll be there shortly guys!

Collecting photons from outside the galaxy tonight. Wind is picking up a bit. Fun times at work. I'm on the hiring committee for the new mechanic. What makes it interesting is that one of our own is applying. This is going to be a tough decision, but I've brought in some more knowledged opinions so hopefully that will help.

Chuck - Happy Birthday!

Chief - awesome garden!

Jim T. - bummer on the radio, but glad it didn't end up too bad. I gave up on radios in the car years ago. The Jeep has just a factory AM/FM that I never use. Fortunately though, I'm into antique radios and the Corvair still has it's original one in the dash. Don't know if I'll hear much over the noise of an air-cooled six in a big metal box, but it will be fun to play with.

NavyJack - what type of ship was the 492?

I finished machining the adapter bracket for the milling attachment this morning. It came out fairly well, w/ John's help of course. I need to drill and tap the slide next and then it will be just the paint. I'll try and post some pics when I get it assembled.

Good early morning everyone.  Got called in to see a patient.  Nurse made a good call and it made my job so much easier.  I don't mind heading in for real issues instead of the ones that are just taking care of something that the nurse is either lazy or too incompetent to deal with.

8N, sorry about your bride's troubles.  As mentioned by Jack, attitude has a lot to do with recovery.  The pool therapy is also very good in that it will build great range of motion with minimal load bearing.  We will lift her in prayer.  Same goes for Char, Brutus.  We expect some bumps in the road, but glad they have been small in her case.  She seems to be making great strides.

Well, I got a trailer today to haul the tractor in for repair.  It shredded a couple of belts.  I checked for alignment of pulleys and for guards and no obstruction.  Did find that the main drive pulley was extremely hot, so we may have a bearing issue.  Too much for me to handle.  Best leave that one to the experts.

Had a nice talk with Dad tonight.  Mother's day was a tough one on all of us.  While we miss her terribly, we were blessed to have her for all these years.  Dad's mother is still living in Tenn.  She is 98 and thinks this will be her last year.  Wife and I would like to go visit her and perhaps fly my Dad down to see her one more time.  Would like for the kids to visit and get to know her too.

Hope that each of you has a blessed day,

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana, but warmer.  Happy belated birthday to Chuck!  An "extra" from "Points West" sent a special cake run to "Points East".  Breakfast would not be the same without that destination on the line.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast today.  TBIL after "Glee".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
