Aloha all. Grey and stormy - I'd rather be listening to early morning thunderstorms rather than having to go out into them. That probably means it'll be quiet here today - and I'll get things done.  'Academic night' at the youngest's grammar's school.. He was very proud to show off his work. Including a picture of his superhero, Daring Dad, who helps with homework and makes things. LOL. Got to keep that one. Re-read CTT. Looking forward to Roger Carp's next book of the 101 greatest post-war items. Due out this fall.

Morning.  Storms came through and we got almost a tenth.  Everyone around us got more. Sigh

Just returned from walking with the kids and Moms at the elementary school.  Seems I have inspired several Moms to start a vegetable garden.  One even got hubby to build an above ground raised bed garden.  We'll all have good vine ripen tomatoes. Dinner  Can taste those tomato sandwiches with lots of mao, salt and pepper.

Now to go plant cucumbers and etc.

PS: Time Warner is in a "strut".  No digital phone service since 3:30 AM.  Whole hub [Wake County] is out.

Later.

To all,

Before this thread is locked (which could be any time), Old Timer is correct as far as the constitution is concerned.  However, this forum is provided "free of charge" by Kalmbach.  "He who pays the piper calls the tune" is a good adage to remember.

Nicely stated, Mike. Here's something weird, sad and train-related: the director of our local commuter rail agency who lives in my town and was just being investigated for a 'bonus' he paid himself, committed suicide this morning by walking in front of the commuter train that followed mine. How sad! Sounds like the plot of a novel.

Does anyone know what to call the Lionel hot air balloon accessory or have an ID number for it? Ive been looking for one.

OT,

      Couldn't agree more.Thumbs Up

The dry transfers for the AF Hudson I've been restoring arrived today, and I just finished applying them.  I also need to change a thrown tire on a MTH Turbine.  I am suprised it lasted 8.5 years though.

Good morning all,  First of all, let me say that California has been very good to me.  I came here in 1958 wih $300 in my pocket and no return ticket to Virginia.  I was able to make a life and met my dear wife and we had two fine boys.  I eventually was able to fulfill my longtime desire to work on the railroad and became a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad which enabled me to have a life after retirement.

That said, I am saddened with the way things are going today.  However Don, myself and Doug will keep the American flag flying out here.  From what I hear, the illegal imigration problem is not only in California.

Chief, yep! Those home grown tomato sandwiches are delicious.  They are great with or without bacon.  Maybe I'll get motivated to plant some.

Have a good day y'all,

Ray

Good Mornin Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

Just a splash and go as I am trimming the bushes after spending 4 hours doing yardwork yesterday.  The stuff I want to grow doesn't, and the stuff I don't want to grow does, and way too fast.  Weed city too in my neck of the woods this Spring.  Have plans for the Scotts Plus 2 application on the lawn this weekend as well as some spot use of Ortho WeedBgon......Roundup on the places where I need total weed annihilation around the permimeter.

Brutus.......yet another milestone for Char with the hemoglobin level!  Hope she is pumped about this good great news.  Prayer's continue.  Who mows your lawn when you are on the IR list with your knee?  I recommend your son ignore all of Brent's advice on the use of power tools.  My Dad had me mowing lawn with a self-propelled reel-type mower when I was four and it didn't kill me......and his teaching his son to respect tools and safety began before that.  I was mowing neighbors' lawns unsupervised for $ by the time I was 10, and he would personally inspect my work afterwards.

Spanky.....too much weight this soon on the hammy?  Or is it just cramping from the exercise.  Slow down!

DougM.......Blackhawks and Bruins in the NHL finals?  I'm going to have to back my Hawks for that one if we get that far.  SIL will be tickled to take the Bruins.

Don.......a sad and yet another disappointing story.  Check that, make it shameful.  Keep us posted on the follow-up.  I must shut up now before I post something over the top.

Chief......1/10th of an inch?  Water those suckers!  I need my tomatoes!  Re the school walk.....you walk?  I heard you shuffle on your good days. Big Smile

Brent!!!!  You are alive!  And back at work?  What does OSHA have to say about your presence there?  Hope you are mending nicely.  And prayers for a complete recovery, buddy.

Later, gang.  I need to carry my cell phone and keep repeating Brent's name as I continue my trimming with the electric hedge trimmer. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Brent,

I was thinking about your suggestion of lowering the second level on my layout again, and was wondering if dropping it from 24" to 20" would make scenery easier/better.  Four inches is the most I can drop it before having clearance issues.  What do you think?

Funny, you should mention the Bruins, Jack, I took their cap (which the teen boy brought back for me from Beantown) to work today because of the rain. Probably the only Bruins cap in the Loop. LOL. Big Smile I'll have to wear it outside now.

Jim - When you drop the upper level be sure to ensure enough room for a Franklin or Washington (21088 & 21089 not the greenbacks) to clear the overhead tunnels and the like,  They run taller than a regular loco.  I'll measure it when I get a chance.

Evenin' boys.  Evenin' English.  Evenin' self-appointed volunteers everywhere.  Sunny and 68 here in the Mid-Atlantic region, but dissapointed that a Canadian coldfront coming in just in time for Mother's Day weekend.  It's nice to come here and keep in touch with all my train-buds.

Cool

Visited the home layout of Bruce Wienel last night.  Three levels, 8 train operation, and a carnival area with 16 rides and attractions.  He has been updating a lot of his town buildings, yet the things that fascinated me were some of the hand-made goodies (including a switchboard) that his father made a half-century ago.  Good time had.

Hey - I know, instead of politics (was there any politics in those posts?  Or was it something else?) - how about a nice, refreshing discussion of RELIGIOUS BELIEFS?

Laugh

Lots of wind here today and some rain earlier, but now it seems like it is clearing up? Supposed to be cooler this weekend, so we shall see. I have work to do around the house still, including planting the tomato plants I bought already. Also need to work on a school project with one of the kids. Finally - brunch Sunday with the family and I promised my wife a nice dinner too, so that will be a big eating day!

Tardis will be ready soon, just have to load the Sams and Yuengs and Chips!  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Back from hoisting a few Black-and-Tans. Running trains around too.  Fife, wow! 16 rides - what a carnival! That would be fun to see. Prepping for cold, wet, early morn at the soccer field tomorrow am.

 Hello all

Busy Week,

A couple of volunteers and my self mixed about 1 1/2 yards of concrete last evening and poured the footer for Dad's new basement wall last evening. Son picked up blocks this afternoon. Mason said he'd be here at 7:00AM to get started. Hope it doesn't rain too much tonight. Showers and wind predicted overnight with a high near 50 and more wind tomorrow.

No trains yet this week.

Brutus great news.

In addition to helping with his Pap's house son is doing field work to prep for planting corn. Oats is up and doing nicely. Cow are showing improvement daily since they are out and have more grass than they can eat.

Continued prayers for Chief's Mom, Spanky and Mrs Brutus

I'm off to join my lovely Mrs in bed

Prayers for all else who may need them

Jim,

I am running MTH on the lower level, and the AF is on the second level.  I checked my clearances with some scrap wood, and I think it'll work.

Brent,

I am going to lower it 3.5".  Four looked risky, but 3 didn't look low enough.  Also, I am leaning towards 2" foam board for scenery rather that the ceiling tile approach I considered previously.  For the look I am going for, foam seems to be a better option at the moment.

I finally got to work on the layout tonight.  I enlarged the access hole in the lower level and got shorter legs cut for the second level.  Won't have time to install them until Sunday due to work tomorrow.  I'll take pics as I go.

Sorry, it is a fact.  My nationality is no more relevant than is your choice of toothpaste.  Instead, my work as a moderator requires me to point out that political screeds do not have a place here.  That much is fact. And that is all there is to say about it.

Play nicely and we can all get along.  Please and thank-you.

Another quiet night here at the 'scope collecting photons.

Brutus - that's great new about your wife!

Thoughts and prayers for Chief's mom

Brent and DJ - take it easy and get well soon!

Well the Corvair engine is still close to coming out. I realized I need to jack it up a bit more for the clearance for the powertrain to roll out on the cart. Probably order some bearings this week and get ready to get the block hot tanked and clearanced for the cam when I get back next week. Brought two of the 1122's w/ me this week and the 2026 and will try some experiments w/ that. Will also continue the painting and work on the milling attachment.

Good Morning everyone.  Been away as getting very busy with all the activity.  We are on a one week hiatus with the movie.  Plan is to film two weeks, take a week off for family, and back on for two.  Cycle will go through June.  I am glad for that as they are 12+ hour days on top of my regular work.

I have plenty to tackle here at home this week too.  Kids both have strep infections, so that always makes for funDead  Still have to fix the tractor.  Not sure why it is shredding belts.  May be a bearing, but will have to see.  We also had one of the coils leak on one of the heat pumps, so....we have to wait for a replacement to come in.  At least we have a different zone if it gets too hot out.

I have not gone back and looked at what all the trouble was, but perhaps it is best I stay out of it.  I am sorry if I missed any one's issues for prayer, etc.  I will have to check Jack's "cliff notes".  I do see that Chief's Mom has been lifted up, I will continue prayers for her and for the rest of Chief's family, as well as for Char and Brutus' family.

My MIL is coming to visit this weekend as daughter has ballet recital dress rehearsal.  Not sure what the plans are, but I have to be available for whatever SWMBO has.  I do know that tomorrow night, we have a joint service with our sister church....Mt. Zion who is celebrating their new sanctuary building.  They are a predominantly African American church, though like ours, it does have a fair mix.  We team up with them quite often and so our choir and congregation will join with them for  the service.  The two pastors will step in and preach at each other's church and have both been awarded for building bridges in the community.

Hope to check back soon.
God Bless,
Dennis
